This game to me is not bad, nor is it very good. The first 2 or so hours is probably a 5/10. However, after that the game gets better.

    A Step Back From Greatness
Tomb Raider 2013 is one of my most favorite games ever.. Needless to say I was excited to play the sequel..
Unfortunately, they dropped the gritty tone of the original to chase uncharted….
Lara sets out to uncover a mystery her father was mocked for..
This game starts out in the Serbian mountains and the majority of the game keeps you in the snow covered mountains…
And of course there are bad guys after the same artifact you are..
    So youre not alone…
The tomb raider reboot introduced a crafting system which has been brought back, but this time feels much more in the background..
You can gather items and hunt animals for materials to craft bandages and upgrade your weapons…
But none of this is forced…
And much like the past game you upgrade your weapons at a campfire, which also acts as a fast travel point and a place for you to spend your skill points as you level up…
Rise of the tomb raider feels much more linear this time around..
The world doesn’t really feel as connected as the original…
Its for the most part a linear path that you traverse with climbing aces and ropes..
The game feels much more like assassins creed this time around because of this…
It gives uncharted 4 a run for its money with how much climbing you actually do here…
As well as the series as a whole during the few epic chase sequences qhich are easily some of my favorite moments in the entire game…
When you aren’t climbing there are a few openish sections you can explore but the mistake the original made is back as well with secrets being locked off until you progress further in the story to unlock the needed tool and come back...
This is a cheap tactic to prolong gameplay hours…
but more so its frustrating and ironically discourages exploration…
Why look around when 1 in 2 areas is going to tell me to come back later?
I might as well just ignore everything and run forward..
This is what I ended up doing..
Fortunately rise of the tomb raider is gorgeous, and traversing the parquor sections and solving environmental puzzles old fans will be happy to see returned outside of just being secrets is a great deal of fun…
And the 3rd person shooter combat feels decently nice, its not uncharted good, but its passable.. you have the option to stealth or shoot your way through most sections… you can also dodge attacks and counter….
The puzzle pieces are all here for this to be a masterpiece of a game…
except theyre missing the center piece… the one thing that makes all of this come together and work for uncharted in such a beautiful way…
    And that’s character…
Theres not a single well written character in this entire game…
    This includes lara…
The original this wasn’t so.. the game felt so real and you felt so vulnerable.. not only having to survive enemies but the environment.. I cared the entire way.. here however youre just a girl Nathan drake with 0 personality…
Which ultimately makes this feel like just a generic third person shooter experience…
There was no reason to stray away from the unique gritty adventure they had going on with tomb raider 2013, but they did and the feel of the game suffered for it
And Im not sure if this story was game of thrones inspired, but it felt pretty copy and paste making every turn so predictable, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if again the characters had character, but they didn’t.. I wasn’t invested in the story at all…
The PS4 20 year celebration version also comes with all of the dlc…
Endurance which can be played either single or co op where youre tasked with surviving by eating food and gathering resources.. Very fun idea, but the challenges for the trophies wont unlock unless they are an active challenge, which if youre trophy hunting kills all reason to continue if there are no more trophy related challenges to do…
cold darkness which is a stealth zombie dlc where you have to infiltrate a research base for a chemical weapon
as well as Baba Yaga and Blood ties which ill be reviewing on their own as they are each about an hour long expansion with their own stories..
While I do wish the characters were better written in Rise of The Tomb Raider, I still feel is a quality experience, well worth your money if youre a fan of action adventure…
I Give Rise of The Tomb Raider..
    an 8/10

First of all you are required to play the first rebooted Tomb Raider before you play this one. Otherwise you wont get the Full Story.

Secondly this Game was more exploring then shooting which is probably why they lowered the Age requirement.

    After the First 11 Hours:
The Atmosphere was great, the Graphics were beautiful, the voice acting was amazing & the Combat was great.

Lara is back and she got some new tricks. Did you like the Gear and weapons from the first game? Then you will love what Lara got new in stock in this one! Some are familiar and some are new but you learn it just as quickly as you did in the first game.

Although this new Lara isn't like the old Lara she is still a loveable and powerful Character that you will start liking very quickly. More Emotions are shown and she looks more human thanks to an actual face model.

Once you've completed the Game there is alot more to do, such as Challenge Tombs, Exploring, Co-op, Croft Manor, DLC & Multiplayer. Now I am not usually one that goes after finishing the Game, again in to complete everything however. Once you've completed the "Main Campaign" there is more Story waiting for you. So go ahead and "Continue" to see what awaits you.

So Far this Game got me hooked up in playing and hours are passing by without me noticing how time flies. These Games are rare to come by and are such gems. So Far I can recommend this Game to any Tomb Raider & Uncharted Fan.

I absolutely enjoyed the Tomb Raider reboot from a few years ago. Amazing graphics, nice levels, great gameplay. This improves on that first game in every way. More varied design, even better graphics to push your machine, and better story. This game is just flat out fun and just a nice romp all the way to the end.

Got it for free on the Epic store and it has one of the best openings of any game. The first one in the new trilogy seemed to have more ideas. Focusing on Siberia instead of globetrotting is a bit of a letdown. Would be nice to see more like the Blood Ties DLC but with harder puzzles.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great sequel to the critically acclaimed 2013 reboot. The game is very similar to its predecessor in its gameplay and feels just as polished; albeit with some improvements in a few areas.

First of all, the game engine has been stepped up and so the game will challenge even the newest hardware. This is not to say that the game is unoptimized however - the graphics are gorgeous, with breathtaking lighting, textures and character models. The motion capture and lip syncing are amongst the best I've ever seen in a game - it's almost movie-like even outside of pre-rendered cutscenes. In terms of optimization, the PC version fairs well and is a commonly used benchmark game; though it appears to crash at certain points when using DirectX 12. It's also extremely memory-intensive (both VRAM and system RAM) at the highest graphics settings; though overall the game scales very well across different presets.

Gameplay-wise, the mix is more or less the same as its predecessor - lots of collectibles, area-specific challenges, a few tombs, platforming, some puzzles, stealth, shooting, exploration and of course, scripted linear sections where things blow up and you have to run away (though QTEs are rare). Whilst there haven't been any mechanical changes (as these were already excellent), there is now more of an economy. You can craft various things such as ammo, arrows, healing herbs and even weapon attachments by scavenging various natural and man-made resources found throughout the world. You also get a choice of weapons rather than having the same 4 which are upgraded throughout the game. There are also over 30 different outfits in the game, so you'll never get bored of looking at the same character model over and over. Finally, the world is also bigger with more to do and see (e.g. side quests to unlock certain parts). These are all welcome additions which do not fundamentally alter the focus of the game, but do not add "artificial clutter" to make the game feel bigger/longer than it needs to be (i.e. it's not like Far Cry 4 where there's a bajillion different collectibles and missions but they're all repetitive and pointless).

Story-wise, I feel that the 2013 game was a much more emotive and contained experience - perhaps due to its simpler nature. Rise of the Tomb Raider is more action-focused and there's less time dedicated to story and character development compared to its predecessor. That's not to say that RotTR's story and characters are weak though - it's still a good experience if you don't care much about the side stuff; though the emphasis on gameplay and the "open-world" aspect is greater than in its predecessor.

Once you're finished with the main game, there is plenty left to do. Although there is no multiplayer - a shame in my view since 2013's was overlooked even though it was actually very fun, balanced and high-quality - there are a few things to compensate. Firstly there's score attack; which allows you to replay levels and tombs to obtain a high score, and you can make it harder or easier by adjusting the difficulty as well as your "perks" and challenges through a card system. Then there's Endurance - a co-op survival mode. Finally there is a mode which allows anyone to create their own mini-levels and publish them for others to attempt - kind of like Hitman's "Contracts" mode.

Even ignoring the challenge modes (which really don't suit the game in my opinion), there's all of the DLC content to play through; - the most praise-worthy of which is Blood Ties. This is a short story about Lara's upbringing and family which is told almost entirely through collectibles and exploration of Croft Manor; with no action or platforming at all. Whilst this sounds bland on paper, it's actually a very well-executed and powerful story-telling mechanism; as all the text in the collectibles is also beautifully voice-acted and the interactive nature makes it easy to empathise with Lara. I don't typically play story-heavy games or games without fast-paced action but this style of story-telling suits the game perfectly.

Overall, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a solid sequel to an already excellent game. It adds a lot of content without feeling bloated, but retains the high-quality AAA production value of its predecessor whilst also improving the visuals for next-gen hardware. If you thought the 2013 game was a bit slow and/or thin on content, give this a shot.

Overall this is one of those games I can call an experience. It kind of defines “AAA Game”. The graphics; voice acting; scale; performance; game play; and soundtrack are all great. The game does have some rough edges and I would have liked to see some things done differently but I had a great time overall.

The story takes place shortly after the reboot of 2013 and sees Lara trying to prove the existence of a lost city that has an artifact that can apparently grant immortality. Much like the reboot you find yourself finding base camps; upgrading skills; hunting animals; engaging in combat with a mysterious group named Trinity that is after the same artifact as well as exploring various tombs. The story was interesting and has some good antagonists but some weak support characters. Much lore and backstory can be found by exploring the areas. I would have liked to see more about the main antagonist Konstantin. I also noticed a couple times where the plot didn’t make much sense. Without going into spoilers I found it weird that just by telling someone they had been lied to for years they believed me without any proof at all. Not the brightest move even if they were being told the truth. Also the game had one moment where it could have ended sooner had someone simply shot their weapon instead of talking. It made me feel like Seth Green from Austin Powers asking why they don’t just kill him when captured.

There are various difficulty levels and it goes a route I don’t like. I prefer if increasing the difficulty increases the intelligence of the AI where here what it does is make enemies stronger and removes features such as manual save. Also strangely you can change the difficulty mid game if you choose one of the lower levels you can’t do so if you choose the top two levels and I see no good reason this decision was made. I also didn’t like how certain areas were only accessible if you backtracked after gaining certain equipment since you would have to backtrack to do the exploring but then go all the way back to where the next story mission was. It would have made more sense to give you the equipment when you needed it or have the story take you back to those areas. There are also many QTE’s in the game, which I don’t mind on principle, but instead of telling you which button to press they give a symbol which could mean melee or use., etc. There are a great deal of skills you can upgrade which can aid what kind of play style you want to go as for more stealth, combat or crafting. You can make devices such as molotov cocktails; bombs; booby traps; as well as use various environmental items to dispatch enemies. You can also focus on ways to silence your weapons; perform finishers as well as kills from above or below. There was a feature called survival instincts that apparently acted like the detective mode from the Batman games and would highlight items to find and enemies but I could never get the feature to work. I tried remapping the button to various keys but it never worked. I didn’t plan on using the feature anyway so I didn’t mind much but a bug is a bug. The camera angles while climbing were usually good but sometimes were ate terrible angles were I had little way of knowing what I was jumping to. It didn’t happen often though.

The graphics were stunning as I said. Everything from fire; to the way clothing looked when wet; to little things such as Lara fixing her hair after it got drenched was all nice little things that added up. There were a couple minor glitches. When you are injured blood will appear at the corners of the screen and this stayed on the screen once during a cut scene. Also there was one scene where ceiling lamps were glitching through the floor.

I played Rise of the Tomb Raider on Linux. It never crashed on me. I played version 1.0.4. It took up 24.98GB of disk space. There are 4 AA settings; Vsync; 5 AF settings; 1 AO setting as well as 15 other settings. The game supports 144hz. Alt-Tab didn’t work. There were short bursts where just after loading a saved game my frame rate would be sub 60 FPS but it only lasted a few seconds.

Game Settings: Highest; no AA; 1080P
GPU Usage: 99% except short bursts from 25-75% (only lasted a few secs)
    VRAM Used: 2709-6590MB
    CPU Usage: 21-52%
    RAM Usage: 6.7-12.1GB
    Frame Rate: 63-144 FPS

If you have enjoyed other Tomb Raider games or enjoy open world action games in general I recommend Rise of the Tomb Raider. It has something for everyone and does the series justice. I paid $59.99 USD for the game and beat the story and 68% of the game overall in 17 hours and 53 minutes. It was worth the price tag.

    My Score: 8.5/10

    75/100 - A good game indeed.

Great graphics, great mechanics, some challenging (only the optionals, the obligatory ones are easy which is ok, gives people choice). The story is ok too, the premise is good, but the execution could be a little bit better. The level design could be a bit better too. And some of the "too cliché" moments that ruins Uncharted to me are here in some extent.

Better than the previous one in the series.
It has almost no Quick Time Events that's a huge improve form its predecessor.
It has more exploration, more animals, more tombs and bigger. Puzzles are still to easy and still too much hand-holding (at least you can disable some of the in-game assists). They implemented swimming this time. It was crazy how swim = dead in the previous game.

They also implemented a healing system but it's almost useless, you don't need it in any fight and Lara recovers so fast that is a nonsense (you can select some 'hardcore' options to make cures more necessary)

    Biggest drawbacks:
    - Still too many cinematics, losing the ability to play the game many times and too often.
    - There's too much bullet hell. The goal on every chapter is to beat an horde of human soldiers with lots of bullets and explosions.
Classic Tomb Raider games were about exploring while you're facing some animals, supernatural beings and a really few humans on the way. In this case the game focuses more on defeating a Call of Duty style guerrilla.
