  1. A great way to rediscover a Jules Verne classic. If the idea of overcoming nature’s challenges, surviving in a forgotten land, and unlocking the mysteries of an exotic island interest you, do not miss this game.
  2. A fantastic point-and-click adventure game that both long time fans of the genre and newcomers will enjoy.
  3. Oh yes. Also, you can install this game, put the CD away, and run it without the CD in the drive. Thank you very much, developers. With companies bending over backward to install broken copy protection schemes left and right, the lack thereof is refreshing.
  4. And so am I recommending Return to Mysterious Island? You bet. In a year that has been lacking in adventures and role-playing games -- the two genres I typically review -- Return to Mysterious Island is more than a welcome find, and, along with "Syberia II," is one of the best adventure games of the year.
  5. This is a hard puzzle game that’s extremely fun and rewarding. A game that you can really get into and play for hours on end (or straight through to completion).
  6. Not far from the best adventure game I have played. The peaceful surroundings and varied solutions to the puzzles mean you could begin to wish you were actually stranded there yourself!
  7. Tailor-made for inventory lovers, but plenty here for every adventure gamer to enjoy. It's simple and modest, but offers great value for your gaming dollar.
  8. I enjoyed it but I wanted a bit more, more places to explore and more opportunity to admire the Nautilus, and get to know Mina and, perhaps, Captain Nemo a little better.

Features not only an interesting setting inspired by a classic novel, but also puzzles that really tie into the game world and make good sense.
  10. By injecting massive doses of fun experimentation into typically mundane inventory management, you find you just cannot wait for each challenge to come your way.

Puzzle fans that are looking for puzzles that aren't confounding for the sake of just being confounding are advised to check out Return to Mysterious Island.
  12. It is a sweet little game that would likely please any adventure gamer, especially those who play their games more than once.

Unlike most adventure games, you'll often find multiple solutions here. [Apr 2005, p.88]
  14. The game is a joy to play. The puzzles are clever and just hard enough to be interesting and rewarding to solve.

Features some challenging and logical puzzles and an entertaining story. [Feb 2005, p.72]
  16. Aside from a few overly convoluted puzzles and some other flaws common to traditional adventure games, puzzle-solving doesn't get much more captivating than this.
  17. A fun adventure game that offers fans of inventory collection based puzzles lots of things to do. The interface is easy to navigate, and the game's localities are full of things to examine.
  18. Those of you who aren't looking for slow-paced gameplay, limited character movement and sometimes annoying puzzles should look for their gaming satisfaction via another route.
  19. The restrictive point-and-click system will always be an issue for most of us ("See that sand over there? Can't go there"), but the price and intriguing scenario mean that this isn't a total waste of time for those who fancy some arcane adventuring.

Well, yes in many ways, a nice way to spend 3-4 hours (it's short). Cons first, you need to get used to bad inventory management, and fixed mouse in centre of screen makes for a lot of blurring during screen scraping areas. Such was the way then. On the plus side, the music is nice, the story is silly but fun, they made the most of the colours and visuals, and some of the puzzles are good. I preferred the third person view of games from then like Siberia. But that's minor. For fans of point-and-click who like to revisit these more basic games from time to time, I'd recommend it and my score reflects that approach. Full Review »

Nice game, but extremely short. I managed to finish it in about 4 to 5 hours, without ever having had the feeling I was rushing through it. Nice game, but extremely short. I managed to finish it in about 4 to 5 hours, without ever having had the feeling I was rushing through it. It was just that: very short. Of course you can play it again and then try to gain more bonuspoints, but, to me, the game was not good enough to try that. Full Review »
