It’s rollicking good fun all the way, let down by the short, repetitive nature of individual levels and the fact that only Michael Madsen of the original cast appears in the game.
-
AceGamezIf you're a fan of the film and of violent games, then you should really enjoy yourself. It's got style, class and lots and lots of violence, as well as a kick ass soundtrack.
-
Perhaps most importantly, it’s fun. Repetitive and glitchy in places maybe, but that hook will keep you reeling out those sweary one liners at hostages and putting security guards’ faces through vending machines until the conclusion.
-
Fans of the movie are going to be put off by an extended story and characters that don’t live up to the original.
-
The tie-in with the movie makes this average game good but let’s not forget that at the core this is just an average game. If anything it makes me want to see the movie again.
-
It's acceptably action-packed, but if it hadn't been patterned after Quentin Tarantino's signature film, you'd probably have forgotten it exists by now.
-
Unfortunately, the cartoony graphics, stilted shooter gameplay, and completely rancid car missions fail what could otherwise be a passing game.
-
Just because this game isn't as cynical as "The Godfather's" art-slashing antics, doesn't mean it's any good - it's with great regret I have to say it's not. [Nov 2006, p.74]
-
The game was obviously developed for consoles as well, and you’ll see this in the way the menu works, the almost non-existent graphical options but mostly in the gameplay and the overall graphics quality, which is far from 2006’s standards.
-
PC FormatThe film tie-in adds interest, but it's too linear and we've seen it all before. [Nov 2006, p.102]
-
Reservoir Dogs won't appeal to hardcore aficionados of the film; the almost-total omission of the original cast and likenesses will probably cause fans to attempt a bullet festival of their own.
-
PC GamerSadly, developer Volatile misses the mark. [Jan. 2007, p.63]
-
Neither a good action game on its own merits, nor quality fan service, Reservoir Dogs is an out and out failure.
-
PC Gamer UKThis promising material is all remorselessly forced through the sausage-grinder of inept execution... About as much fun as having your ear cut off. [Nov 2006, p.77]
-
Play MagazineAll dogs go to heaven? Not hardly. This one rots somewhere else. [Dec. 2006, p.86]
-
Repetitive gameplay and limited replayability and difficulty settings are just the tip of the iceberg of a game that could've explored so much more of the characters from the movie, but just barely scratched the surface of the film.
-
Computer Games MagazineIn Reservoir Dogs, the game, you might as well be seeing " The Max Fisher Players Present Reservoir Dogs," but minus the charm, and with a bad shooter/driving game as the price of admission. [Jan. 2007, p.69]
-
Just when it seemed the industry had figured out how to turn some movies into fun gameplay experiences, with Reservoir Dogs, its as if they haven’t learned a thing since "E.T."
