Well, Tripwire, the folks behind Red orchestra, proved them completely wrong. Easily one of the finest WWII games I have ever played. Those who do not enjoy this should go back to playing MOH or COD with all the kiddies out there; this gameoffers a genuine combat experience that is both entertaining and involving. If you're looking for something light-hearted and easy though, then this isn't for you.

RO: Ostfrnot 41-45 is really a TEAM effort game... that is IF you can find a team that doesn't shoot you in the back just for the fun of it. I haven't seen any TEAM effort at all, though on occasion a few people try to make it a statigic game, yet fail miserably due to the idiots who have no clue as to how to work together.

Red Orchestra is amazingly realistic, and a lot of care has been put into its historical accuracy. The infantry combat is challenging and rewarding; the tanks are an absolute blast. Definitely the best WW2 game I have ever played.

The most immersing WW2 (or any war for that matter) game yet, it feels like you are really there! Sounds, the visuals - everything top notch. Very hard learning curve, but that's a + in my book! Everything shouldn't be easy.

This is an excellent game. Only the immature and bad players of other games will dislike this. If you can play a game without crosshairs, then you will love this. If not, go back to Counter-Strike where you belong.

Wow, what a disappointment. I was so wrong thinking this was another Brothers in Arms. Single player mode, e.g. "Training" is awful: AI is dumber than my hamster, no realism whatsoever. Multiplayer mode is a bit better, but you have to get up pretty early to get a good weapon, otherwise you're stuck with a bolt-action rifle that is awkward to use at best. Damage mode is very realistic, too realistic if you ask me: a hit in a leg slows down your movement, a hit an an arm - you can't use your weapon. But now the question is, how the heck are you supposed to heal if the game has no medics and there's a fortified machine gun nest in front??? Pointless. The only thing I REALLY enjoyed, though, is being a machine-gunner myself: those tracers and ricochets, and plumes of dust when you hit a cement wall are impressive. Expand

Personally, I love the game. The time it takes to deploy to any map in single or multiplayer takes to long though. I spend 20 minutes waiting for the map to come up and stop deploying in any game.

If there is somehitng I can do to make this faster please tell me.

Best and the most realistic WW2 shooter ever made. DoD feels like Quake after this. And this game really encourages teamwork expecially when operating a tank (Mics and headphones with driver and gunner = Best gaming experience ever!) Realistic, intensive and the feeling of "being there"! Must for every WW2 Shooter fan!

The design of the maps is good and the sounds are also nice. The teamplay is awful as an overview is lacking. Also the maps are pretty big, so it takes a while before you meet the enemy. Furhermore the chosing of the figures you wanne be is not pretty, cause the popular rankings are gone fast (sniper, etc.).

Well I appreciate that Tripwire has tried to create a realistic WWII FPS but sorry it doesn't score well with me. I see fans of realistic FPSes saying that well you can't swap a mag in 2 seconds, you can't run really run that fast, etc. etc. Well you're actually wrong. The reload in this game was timed pretty decently. First of all, you're assuming the role of a well-trained soldier which knows his weapon well and will be in good physical condition. Except if you're playing the Russians who just threw recruits out there like no tomorrow or if it's 1945 at the fall of Berlin and you're an old man or a kid with a Panzerfaust or a Luger. But for the majority you will know how to use your weapon and take care of it to a pretty decent extent. What this means is you should run alot faster and be able to sprint longer, sighting your weapon should be quicker, recoil should be lessened, etc. etc. Developers need to realize that realism DOES NOT ALWAYS EQUAL SLOW. The vehicular combat could be better if you had more awareness. It is realistic but you must remember most people who play PC DO NOT have microphones meaning there will almost be little to no communication between a group of people in a single vehicle. The graphics of this game are well done, especially the richoeting mg bullets, (nice touch) the vehicle handling is also well done, the damage ratio is good, the sound is also pretty awesome. All in all, a good attempt that is fun for people that like the stereotypical slow tactical fps but for most it's going to be a pretty crappy time. Expand

This game was poorly designed from conception. First off, you designed a cheap game, setup a cheap site, and assumed that making a multiplayer environment would woo the crowds. Multiplayer games are successful because of their social aspect for one, and Red Orchestra does not do that any better than CS:DOD (competitor/alternative). Take a hint from CS, COD, Quake, etc. Build a single player game first, then develop the multiplayer for those who couldn't get enough. I am sure that you are saying that since Unreal did it, so can you. This is true... On the same token, you have to acknowledge that Unreal is your competitor, and a strong one at that. Though your product is cheaper, I am more likely to pool my money into Unreal because it has a larger community and more servers with more people which equals more choices (which consumers like). I do have to applaud you on your tactic to get more people online with Red Orchestra in the hopes that they would buy the game (and to appease current owners who can't find people playing online.). I personally thought that it would be a ploy for a single player game that would put me all the way through 12 chapters in a 13 chapter series and that I'd have to buy it to finish the game (that could be a good strategy on the tail end of a games life...) Moving along... The graphics are worse than CS:Source, which is surprising with the Unreal engine. The play is slow b/c the maps are too big. Unreal successfully allowed players nonstop playing with nihl downtime when they got killed (nihl downtime and no hike to get back to the battle) The tanks cannon can only be moved with the keyboard. To get more fanfare I propose the following: (surprisingly) Create a singleplayer option. More action with less downtime. Use the graphics engine your paying to license and push Unreal to its limits. I felt like I was on a Commodore. Overall, if this was your first game, good for you. I'm sure you'll produce some quality things over the next years (hopefully Red October 2). Expand

Gorgeous. This game is like no other WWII shooter you've ever played, or one you will play in the near future. The very sensitive damage system actually gives you motivation to take cover and do whatever you need to do to survive, specially in the larger maps where you're spawned all the way across the map from your objective. Probably the most realistic game you can play. Arcade FPS players, I would not recommend it for you. This game is extremely realistic ala no cross hairs. If you want to be in intense tank battles, call in artillery on infantry, or blow that pesky tank that is killing all of your comrades; this game is for you. The first thing, it isn't just to swap a magazine in 10 second, if you are gonna spare the empty magazine, you need to lay it on the ground, get your hand on the new mag in the closed puoch, drag the mag out, lay it on the ground, put the empty mag in the pouch, push the full mag in the weapon, and make sure it is IN, then you will have to ... uhmm... how to say it.. drag that thing back so the bullet will get in.. Reloading way to fast :D but it is a nice time to reload for a game :) Also, when you didn't have any mags left in a war, you would take a mag and put one and one and one and one and one bullet at time.... Gameplay is awful. The maps are too large. The bots are stupid. The "Iron sight mode", which was copied from other games, is ineffective. The scenery is plain and clearly little imagination was used in forming them. Tripwire should come up with something good, and stop this second-rate game.

There's very little gameyness in RO and a whole lot of gritty crawling along the ground so you can flank over to that machine gunner and allow your team to advance to the next spawn point objective.
