This game is the definition of acquired taste. You CAN enjoy it, the question you will ask yourself the most if you've never played this type of thing before though is, SHOULD I? Will it pay off? Am I wasting my time??

To answer all of those: yes. I recommend absolutely you give it your all. This to me, is the best an ArmA style game can ever get. I enjoy these types of realistic games,

To answer all of those: yes. I recommend absolutely you give it your all. This to me, is the best an ArmA style game can ever get. I enjoy these types of realistic games, this one is basically dirt cheap and is as timeless as Call of Duty: World at War or Medal of Honor: Allied Assault if you still even play the latter lol.

For something of its price, literally below 5 Euro/US bucks? MORE Than worth it. You get: Pacific AND Stalingrad multiplayer campaigns, with populated servers 24/7, a very engaging and addictive leveling system for your guns and character, I just love it so much.

Buy it. Whack at it for like hours, take your time. I swear you'll enjoy it. 10/10, absolutely perfect.

Good pretty and cheap. immersive, and addictive atmosphere, if it's your first time and you come from other shooters, be patient, it's hard to make yourself playable because it is more strategic than frantic.

It has a good range of weapons, which are included within specific roles that you have to perform according to what you choose.

This is maybe the most realistic depiction of War ever!

If you prefer realism to arcade, then this is probably a game that you'd like. The games can last for up to 45 minutes, you will die from one shot to the torso and you will be put in impossible situations. You need to know the tactics required for the map, and then you can get the oh so rewarding kills on the enemy.

A game where you can snipe better with a machine gun than you can with an actual sniper rifle.

10/10 would snipe with an MG42 again.

Aside from that it's a good game for the most part, so much better than other FPS games.

I spent 300h in it, so I know what I say - DO NOT buy Red Orchestra 2. Tripwire managed to create the most glitchy game in the history of gaming. NO, my PC is okay, it fits the requirements, so the game have to run smooth. But now I have to explain why did I spent 300 hours in it. Well, this is the only game about WWII of this kind. It have a good gameplay, a lot of decent maps (and a lot of terribly disbalanced though) and it's fun most of the time. Singleplayer - 5/10
I have got to say that the singleplayer for Red Orchestra 2 is the worst I have ever seen, horrible AI, tons of glitches, awful story and also the same objectives, over and over and over again. "Capture this, then capture that, then finally capture the last one, and it is the most heavily guarded!" Is this the most Tripwire Interactive could come up with!?! Let's start with the AI, the worst I have ever seen. Soldiers running around in the battlefield, not looking for cover, acting like idiots, a Soviet soldier passes by a German soldier and completely ignores him! WOW, this is what must of happened during the real war! Glitches, they are everywhere! Soldiers sinking into the ground, soldiers spinning like they are at a disco party, running on the same spot, the glitches are endless! Awful story, one of the most boring stories I have ever encountered. I understand that it is during WWII and the Germans are fighting over the Russians etc... but come on! They could of made the story much better than what it is! And the objectives, always the same... just in a different place. Do this, then do that, then take over here, then there, etc... Really gets boring after a while. Overall I am disgusted by the level of poorness this "singleplayer" has to show. But the level of realism that it shows, from the breathing, to crouching and other stuff really makes you feel like you are in the battlefield. But overall, a complete disaster!

    Multiplayer - 6/10
Fun, not that fun but mostly fun, but the best is playing with your friends, as it can get very boring in a matter of a few hours. The only thing I have got to complain about is... why the hell are they advertising Rising Storm, which for me is a completely different game in this one!?! I really thought that Rising Storm is integrated into Red Orchestra 2 and it comes free, but OH NO, when I entered the game, you have to pay for Rising Storm, which I can understand, but why on earth would you integrate it with Red Orchestra 2 if they are two completely different games in two different places! And when I wanted to play one of the maps of Rising Storm in Red Orchestra 2, it did let me, but it strips away all the classes to the bare bone, what a waste. Honestly, you either make them separate games or charge for both Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm together, BUT overall the multiplayer is not bad, best with friends and family though!

    Sehr gutes Kriegsfeeling.

I have played this game longer than any other. This is because this game has the best multiplayer if you want the ultimate realistic hardcore FPS experience.

The soundscape is excellent. Weapons sound very realistic, whether near, far, or inside a building. Weapon handling (accuracy etc) are still the best I have ever seen in any game (much better than ARMA series in my opinion). There are some neat gameplay mechanics that simulate suppression, and reward teamwork and discourage camper score-whoring. This is probably the only game that really models suppression. Don't bother with the single-player though, its rubbish and the AI is dumb.

When it was released back in 2011, it was rough around the edges with lots of bugs, but now in 2014, with continuous support from the devs, virtually all the problems have been ironed out, and it now runs very stable.

Being realistic and brutal, this is very unforgiving to noobs (and CoD players). Only 1 rifle bullet is needed to kill. Noobs spawn, run forward, and get killed by enemy artillery, or a tank 300m away, or a sniper 200m away, or a machine gunner 150m away, or a maxed out assault trooper 5m away, and never see it coming. Being realistic, machine guns are almost just as accurate as sniper rifles, but it is slightly harder to spot prone enemies without the scope. I am usually the machine gunner, and by a round's end (20min) I may have killed over 80 of them and only died 5 times. That's how ruthless this game is. This is arguably both the game's biggest strengh, and its biggest problem.

This game uses a leveling and unlock system, but it is still quite fair on new players. While fully levelled guns will help (with slightly reduced weapon sway, recoil, reload time, magazine size etc) it is still only 20% of your effectiveness and the remaining 80% is down to your tactical awareness, teamwork, and most of all, your individual skill. That is the most important thing. If you are naturally good, you will start out quite well and only get better as you level up, but if you are not so good at aiming with a mouse, you might always struggle.

The online community is more mature than in most other shooter games. We still get the occasional 12 year old, but not too often. As of Dec-2014 there are still a good range of servers and a good volume of players online (about 1500 sunday night, 300 monday morning). At peak times there are about 5-10 servers with 64 players, and some servers occasionally go over the 64 player limit. The most I have seen is 85, that was epic. In 800 hours of gameplay I have only seen 1 incident of hacking (the artillery hack), and that one was patched out by the devs within days. So, this game has a virtually hack-free environment.

So, this game is too brutal and realistic for many, but if CoD or Battlefield is not cutting it for you, I recommend you try this.

I love the way the maps can play out and the way you can interact with the environment and your weapon. the game is unfortunately marred by some unfortunate bugs and issues like laggy servers and melee combat can be a little annoying. What is there to say? Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is a game that I will never forget, it is one of the most realistic FPS games out there..
Bullets are an actual danger, get shot in the right spot and you will most likely die, if you survive the shot, you need to bandage your wounds before returning to action
Cover is actually useful, you can't just go Rambo style and shoot 'em

Cover is actually useful, you can't just go Rambo style and shoot 'em all up, no, it doesn't work like that
Co-operation with your team is very important, going alone may only be any good if you are flanking, but going with a team is still always better
Voice acting... I really like the voice acting, I like it that for once when an enemy/ally is shot, they make a sound, shoot them in the throat and they will choke on their blood, shoot them anywhere else and they may say random things, shoot them in the head and they will usually go silent
Only negative thing I give is something not everyone may have, but I have an AMD card, and the game is poorly optimized for me, in the GOTY edition I cannot sprint due to massive framedrops, many other people experience this so I blame it on tripwire for not optimizing the game for our cards

Overall, this game is one of the, if not the, most realistic FPS out there, I highly recommend to have a team of friends and communicate with each other, it's huge fun!

But the gore and the realistic bullet ballistics / 1 shot = 1 kill is splendid. Some reviews here tells the reader that the game doesn't fullfill the promise of realism, well they must have accidentally played on servers without ''Realism''-mode.
The game is a truly unique game and feels like Battlefield 1942 but with a more gory and dark atmosphere.
    +/-:
    + 64 player servers
    + In-game VOIP
    + Different Soldier Classes
+ Not hundreds of different weapons, with thousands of different accessories.
+ As close you can come a realistic WWII game with ''Realism''-game mode: 1 deadly bullet = 1 kill.
+ Continued development. (New maps, new weapons, new vehicles)
+ Doesn't require a specific level to get to play with the class you want and the weapon you wishes for.
    + Dedicated servers.
+ Earn upgrades to your weapons when you kill enough enemies to level up your weapon.
    - Not as popular as other FPS-games, needs more PR? It's sad to see a great FPS game have less players than a free2play game as War Thunder with it's 3000 players online.
    - Countdown, if you don't cap the next capture zone within a few minutes, then a clock starts ticking down.

Everyone is making games these days (hence Steam being overrun with early release **** - everyone and their dog are at it *ahem* making games ofc *cough*. But it seems very few actually know what a good game is these days, a case of if you throw enough **** at a wall some will eventually stick. Also because practically every level of promotion and release publications are controlled it is very hard to know what a good review is. Standards are, on the whole, dropping.

Updating my score from long ago when I noticed how low it was. I reviewed the game soon after its original launch in 2011, and I certainly feel like it was broken them and not functioning as it should. (The beta was running better at the time). But like all Tripwire projects they gave it a lot of ongoing support and it became a really good game.

Lack of new content really lets the game down, nothing new for a long time (that is free anyway).

This developer built its reputation on giving lots of free content to support the game - to date, all we have had from them is 2 new maps and 2 new weapons. Pre-release, the developers promised 4 new tanks in the first content patch, now, 2.5 years later, we are still waiting.

It's realistic and gritty enough, but they also went the mainstream way and added a level-up system and you get weapon upgrades and stat boosts ... so you have to decide how realistic that is. (Interesting paradox of this: you need to be level 25 to get a bayonet on your rifle, BUT a total noob can immediately grab a very important role such as Commander and ruin everybody's fun by not knowing what to do ...)

ROOST was a classic game, but this falls very short of that, and the lack of new content is really frustrating, the game had so much potential.

And the vehicles TWI promised it's community 2,5 years ago? Nothing. Still in beta. ''Soon'' means 2,5 years.
TWI loves to take years to fix gamebreaking bugs, too. Mapclipping (exploits) and MG-clipping (invulnerable MG guns) were in the game for years.

There is a reason why there is NO competitive scene whatsoever within RO2.

I did the first review of this game a few days after release and it was devastating. Today there are still some issues left and we didn't receive everything that was promised by TWI. Several major parts are missing that could really improve the game like vehicles, more tanks, a friendship system, customizing options and actual destructible environment.

I personally have not touched the single player in this game because of my addiction to finding out new strategies and tactics against human players on the vast battlefields in which the game takes place. Leaning around cover, blind firing over barriers, tossing (unmarked thank god) grenades into windows, shooting through tiny gaps in walls, and much more makes the immersion in this game fantastic. I will say that it is not quite as realistic at the first Red Orchestra, yet still more realistic than any other WW2 FPS currently out. I got this game for under 5 bucks and it was probably the best investment I've made in a long, long time. Most of the issues that people are complaining about from when the game was released have been ironed out. The graphics look great when maxed out and the game play experience is very smooth. If you have a quad core processor and mid range video card you wont have problem maxing out this game at all. Red Orchestra 2 is also constantly being updated, with new maps and game types added from both the developers and the user community. I noticed many people complaining about the campaign. This game is not at all meant to be a single player experience. Sure, you can go in and play the single player campaign, but it's really just a bunch of bots running around. This game never sold itself as a single player experience and to be quite honest, if your playing this game for that experience you must be new to PC gaming. Noobs will struggle to find a groove at first, but one thing that really helps new guys is really just stay alive. The kills will come and you'll be loving every second of it. Another issue that I see people complaining about is the HUD and the voice acting. The HUD is simple and can be simplified even more, creating a very immersive experience. Also, you can set the games audio to use the nations native languages (German and Russian) rather than your own team speaking English and the opposite speaking their native tongue. This helps to create an even more immersive experience in my opinion. On another note, the sound in the game is quite good. 5.1 surround sound is a fantastic experience when paired up with this game. Overall, this game was a great buy, as I've gotten over 80 hours of gameplay for under 5 bucks and I have no plans to stop anytime soon. Must have for realism FPS fans. Expand

The pros: you can get a good adrenaline rush from playing this game, since it heavily simulates reality, so you die extremely easily.

Cons: Tripwire has NOT done a good job supporting this game. Initially, it was so buggy, that it was almost unplayable, they have patched it many times since then, and its still a mess. collision detection is unreliable, the game still takes up quite a large amount of resources to run for an Unreal 3 Engine game, forget about using AI Bots, as they are often hard to hit due to their jerky movements and animations, along with their animations and models not showing what they are really doing. I have been head-shot by AI bots many times when they are clearly looking the other direction, the bullet literally flies out of the muzzle of the gun, does a 180 the moment it leaves the barrel, and plants itself firmly in my face. They scale AI bots to your Honor Level, which means, when you first start out, they cant hit you at all almost, then when you get to at least level 50, they will headshot you from across the map with a submachine gun on the first shot 90% of the time. not only that, but the AI has some of the worst path-finding ive seen... with them bugging out on STOCK maps, all 30 AI players on your team will all get stuck in some particular spot or another, either they get stuck somewhere, or they will eventually all wander OUT-of-bounds till they are killed by being out of bounds too long... the AI isnt the only bad part. The UI is also buggy as hell, with one of the common bugs being that at the end of a match, it will continually make a clicking noise, as if you clicked on a button, and every time that happens, the map is shown, and it would kill the scoreboard if you have it up, its not game-breaking, but its annoying as hell. There are also issues with how the game runs on servers as well. map voting sometimes, ends up with a completely random map being chosen in the end, and I have seen an online campaign game get completely out of whack, bugging out and displaying everything wrong.

one annoying thing I have to note is the stupid way they did tank mechanics. Its fun to drive a tank and it feels authentic and everything, but the hit detection and damage system is just stupid, as they state that it simulates real-life, but it does not in any way. they state that the angle of the armor and how the shot hit the armor affects damage and penetration, which is completely wrong. no matter what angle you hit a tank, its the same "damage". plus, throw in random damage on top of that. sometimes you barely glance a tank with a shot to the front armor, and it explodes in one shot, sometimes, you have to hit it dead center where the ammo bin is with 5-6 shots before it explodes... tank battles would be much more fun if the damage was not random like it is right now.

Its cute that they added a leveling system to both the soldier classes and weapons, but I think it was something that is completely out of place, and I feel like they were pressured into putting it in due to CoD being so popular with its level and unlock system. that entire system should be tossed, since its a form of "the rich get richer" which really ruins the community, as it turns newbies away, which is a major issue since RO2 is heavily realism oriented, so it has a massively steep learning curve in the first place.

the largest issue I have is the maps. many of them are historically accurate, but that does not mean that the maps are balanced in any way. not just that, but most of the "community maps" that were put into the game after a map-making contest are just plain bad. They may look pretty, but they are in no way balanced, nor fun to play. most of the community maps are wide-open sniper-fests, either heavily favoring the attackers or defenders, there are only a few maps where it feels like both sides have an equal chance at winning.

in the end, its a fun game, and the idea is something I really love, they just ruined the execution of it by not releasing it in a playable bug-free state, and considering the competitive nature of games by making balanced maps. I give it a 6/10 since it is inexcusable that this game is still in such a buggy state more than a year after release, even if it is "playable". If the game worked perfectly with no bugs, and they fixed the balance issues, I would give it a 9/10.

What a refreshing breath of fresh air in an otherwise faded and boring genre. So many shooters today do the same freaking thing you would think that one company made them all. In RO happily that is not the case. The combat is intense and not for those with 5 second attention spans. If you want a great game and have taste that cater to the realistic then your should definitely buy this.

Being a hard core RO1 fan from day 1, I found RO2 to be exactly the same as its predecessor. Immersing, intense 'find some cover!' type of a game! people shouting, the intense firefights and the gun shots you suffer from somewhere from the window you never know, single sniper shots that force you to keep your head down because the spawn point is so damn far away, this game needs skills and training! So in short its like a simulator and you need to have that kind of a mindset towards it. In addition, the 64 player support makes it even more intense.

This is not a run and gun FPS, kindly play something like black ops or Borderlands if it suffices. leave this game to the pros! I give this game a 9. Would be so readily happy to give it a 10 if only the gun sounds had a little more punch!

The game has good graphics and gameplay, i just think there are some maps that are not so good were one team has full advantage over the other team but other than that the game is very good, If your looking for an intense game to play then buy this game right now! I have come across no bugs in the game so I will give it a 8/10.

A game splendidly made, easy to play, intense, realistic, with numerous tactical possibilities, wide maps, lots of weapons. Every little detail contributes to make you spend a great FPS moment. You'll never want to play a "call of duty" or "Battlefield" ever again after playing RO2. And all of this for a reasonable price and lots of free DLCs coming soon.

Then it gets really challenging when the enemies hide and get critical hits whenever you do so much as peek your head above cover. The missions are excellent, however it can be argued that the Soviet campaign is almost the same as the German campaign except instead of many Offensive missions it has many Defensive missions. Sometimes Red Orchestra 2 can be extremely frustrating, and sometimes it is extremely fun. It's a dark and mature game, and if you can get it for $20 or less, go for it. Expand

First, at the release it was a horrible and unfinished piece of **** Now in December (2012) it is still a horrible and unifnished piece of ****.

This game lacks EVERYTHING that the first game had, EVERYTHING.

Let me start off with my biggest irritation.

The game feels empty, dull and uninspired. The maps are always the same **** couple of buildings here and there. Random and unthought roads and cover here and there and they call it a map.

The gameplay consists of you running around just searching for the enemy and hoping to actualy find him, when you do you just shoot at eachother until the war is **** over. The maps and the gameplay are so dull I often play for 10 minutes and quit. It's just not enjoyable, it's so repative and boring .. And the better you are at the game the more boring it gets. Because once you actualy relize and get skilled, the game becomes of you shooting people like pigs without any resistance.

The classes that the game offers (Rifleman, Squad Leader) also feel like there is no difference or detail to them, it's just all about the weapon you get when you choose. NOTHING else.

The graphics are **** and the optimization is bad, this is primarely because they decided to use the HORRIBLE Unreal Engine. It instead became Blurred textures & Bloom: The Videogame.

This game lacks what WW2 shooters need. That is, big maps, slow gameplay and most important of all NOT DULL gameplay! RO2 does not offer any of this.

The game is really simple often divided into Objective A, B and C.

Soviets attack A B and C and the Wehrmacht defends A, B and C. This never stops and goes on for eternities until somebody wins, when they win there is a cheesy themesong playing with zero detail and feel to it. And you just feel like "Oh wow, it's finaly over"

Played this ****ty mess for 103 hours on Steam, I think I deserve the right to talk so bad about it. I've had it.

Tripwire Interactive has also attempted to attract more idiots to this game by making free weekends almost every month what it feels like, and constant discounts and sales. But it just isn't working.

The game is **** if you want a good WW2 game consider something else. RO: Ostfront and the mod Darkest Hour for it are 100 times better.

    Good luck.

There have been major improvements since this game first came out. I originally gave it a 5 due to stability issues in the multiplier segment. Pros:
-Now they allow Modded Maps from STEAM!
-The shooting is realistic (no virtual crosshairs) -You must be very careful and precise with your shots -Challenging and rewarding for every kill -It's quite fun if you have a collaborative team

Cons: -Single player is absolutely worthless
    -You will die A LOT.
-Some poor map design because of the openness.

I played the first Red Orchestra since it was just a beta, and as this game was approaching its launch I was extremely excited. I've decided to put that first game behind me for this review, as this second installment offers a quite different experience.

(+, --) Graphics. Game seems alive and quite realistic. What I would like to know is why there still are no facial animations.

Everyone looks like dead dolls, and it really ruins the feeling you get. Upon first view most of the game looks great, but when you look into small details like this you realize it's very unpolished and fails to deliver simple things games from 2005 were able to produce. Textures look good, but many of the objects have uneven edges. Not very impressive for a game from 2011.

(+++) Sounds. This part was just stunning. It feels as if though you're in a real war, with soldiers on each side cursing at each other in their native tongue (given you set in-game language to this), while they hammer the opposing side with gunfire, airstrikes and grenades. The game makes a fantastic effort at making the possibly greatest battle of all time live up to its record. Death screams, prayers, and begging for mercy made me almost feel sorry for them. To top it off, Sam Hollick composed a staggering 25 scores for the game, all which fit the gritty setting of the war, where heroes are welcomed and enemies loathed.

(+, -) Gameplay. The one thing I like about the game is the fast pacing of it. You get the feeling that there is an extreme disregard for human lives, which was very true indeed for the Battle of Stalingrad, and the rest of the Eastern Front, for that matter. What bothers me the most is how unbalanced the game is. The Axis clearly has superior weapons, which is all fine and dandy since that's the way it was back in the real war, but back then the Soviets made up for that with their sheer numbers. Here, the armies are equally sized. One thing that made me shiver was the introduction of the MKB-42, a prototype to the MP-44. Just because the Germans had a few working models back in Berlin, it doesn't make it okay to distribute them among the soldiers on the Eastern Front. To make matters worse, they usually end up dominating the game.

    All in all:

    Audio: 10/10
    Graphics: 6/10
    Gameplay: 6/10
    Overall Score: 7.3/10

I recommend the game. This review might not help you if you're looking for a new Red Orchestra: Ostfront, but if we imagine the game being the first in the series, this is the score I'll be giving it. Comparing it to the first which I loved to the death and still do, the review score would be considerably lower. A step back if you ask me, but the two games can't really compare much to each other.

It's so unconvincing. Single player is worthless and just plain unplayable. I can only ever find a couple of populated servers, with a large majority bots to substitute the empty slots. At least the game runs at a stable framerate online, but games like Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway look and run a whole heck of a lot better. The controls are so clunky compared to the original RO. Suppression effects are way too exaggerated in this game; in the original RO, the screen only flickers a little when a bullet whizzes by you. When you get suppressed in this game (which is all too often), the whole screen turns black and white, making it impossible to see anything. No one cooperates as a team because they're more concerned about getting kills and unlocking weapons than actually playing the objective. The maps in my opinion are too small... some more emphasis on vehicles like in the original RO would be much appreciated. Overall this game feels like another trashy, fast-paced console shooter. I am still waiting for a PROPER realism mode with no stupid CoD-inspired generic features. The DEVS should decide which direction they want to take with the game, what genre they want the game to be, because the truth is: You CANNOT appeal to everyone. Don't expect the single player campaign to enthrall you and make you replay over and over. It is the least memorable part of the game. So where does this game shine? It shines in its multiplayer atmosphere. Unlike other FPS games, teams must work together to take objectives or take out their opponent. I will put it simply this is like Call of Duty 2 trying to be a simulator and taking every enjoyable aspect out of the gameplay. Sorry to compare but this is exactly how it feels.
Controls are wooden fiddly and non intuitive. Graphics are woeful. The occasional hue, sun glare, and haze effects do not detract from virtually zero detail and textures and just plain dull graphics. The "tank" view is hysterical like something seen from a ZX spectrum from the 80's. Worst of all the sound is laughable and the effects close to appalling. Other issues are dull gameplay and uninspiring maps with no feel or soul. The reason I bought this game is that I was sold on this. If the game was as massive as ARMA 2 then I would forgive the lack of graphical depth, however the maps are probably only twice the size of CoD games.
The only reason to buy this game in my opinion is that you have a specific interest with the developers of from people who know the developers.

Unfortunately the game suffers from unnecessary limitations - for example, you can't opt to hold sights instead of toggle, and you can't turn off or in any way adjust the dreadful gun sway (your gun moves faster than the camera). Don't compare it to BF3 or any COD, RO2 stands apart. It's well worth the money, and right now there's a sale at less than 1/2 the original price! Expand

So many people rating this bad are soooooooooooo dumb.... this is a SIMULATOR and isnt arcade like at all, when I play this game a feel a certain atmosphere that you wouldnt get in most shooters. Dont buy this game if you're expecting somthing like battlefield.

Fixed hit detection and renewed playerbase - worth the money now. New maps are needed, but community is making them with SDK and TWI has promised new maps and tanks. Lack of content is my only gripe left with the game - and that's after 200 hours of playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Best game of the second world war, many people complain about bugs in single player but do not know that single player was made to train only ... Because the game is totally online. Another thing are the players with low-quality PC can not play the game and put blame on the manufacturer. Expand

-you cannot run or walk and change weapons at the same time (this is deadly again)

-some graphic glitches, when prone and move at the same time

-other minor bugs -commander and squad leaders have to be more rewarded for their job (succeed points or something)

-single player is absolute crap and its painfull to play. (anyway its good to comlete the traning missions to get the basics of the game before going online)

    Last words:
If you like DoD, CSS and all of the kind, this game is not for you.

Tripwire Interactive listened to both player and industry criticism, and responded by creating 2 entirely new modes of experiencing the game, the classic mode for Ostfront players, and the action mode for industry critics who believed the game to be inaccessible to casual players. Additionally, the vast majority of bugs in the game, which the community assisted in identifying, have been resolved. For the vast majority of players, the game is technically excellent. There is a control interface which players can manipulate a variety of graphic factors from a Low to Ultra setting. This allows players to manipulate the graphic template of the game to suit their particular processing speeds & allowances. Such visual effects (but not limited to) of artillery exploding, destructible surfaces, bullet cracks, and suppression effects-- are all amazing. As gameplay is concerned; Heroes of Stalingrad, similar to the first game in the Red Orchestra (RO) franchise, Red Orchestra: Ostfront, is a challenging, difficult game. It is a game where one bullet kills characters. It is a game where the character becomes tired, or suppressed by enemy gunfire, or despondent. It is a game where your weapon may sway, or that you need to brace your weapon for an accurate shot. It is a game where one minute, you may be assaulting a postion, and the next, running for your life away from it. It's a game where players use bayonets & rifle butts to kill each other in close combat, is not uncommon. There are many ways to play the game. There is a character progression system from Raw Recruit up to the Hero class, and there are many different specialties such as sniper marksmen, or squad leader, to progress as. Players become more proficient a number of attributes with progression. Success on the battlefield depends on one side or the other occupying objective areas, or 'cap zones', and characters who participate in team-oriented play by taking these 'cap zones' are rewarded with points used in their progression. Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, is an intensely satisfying game experience. It's also a very demanding one. Heroes of Stalingrad is the best WWII tactical FPS on the market. To be a member of the Heroes of Stalingrad community is to be one of the Few & the Proud of the gaming elite. Expand

The basic fact is that Red Orchestra 2 spoils you. Playing any other shooter, especially one that claims to be realistic, after going through a few rounds in RO2 is bound to be a disappointment.

The multiplayer of Red Orchestra 2 offers various interesting debate points about the realistic online shooter breed: praised by many, played by few. Forgetting some bugs and the (hopefully) soon to be addressed performance hiccups, Red Orchestra 2 is definitely an entertaining product that, online-wise, will guarantee months of brutal fun.

If you think both Battlefield and Call of Duty are too exaggerated and unrealistic, and feel Counter-Strike is too soft, Red Orchestra 2 might be the game for you. It doesn't appeal to us, though.
