It’d be easy to nitpick Red Dead Redemption, and wonder whether, 14 years later, it’s still worth playing. As its long-awaited Steam debut shows, the answer to that is an unqualified yes.

Red Dead Redemption is a pure masterpiece, timeless and enhanced with this port which brings all the improvements that one would expect on PC. Already incredible 14 years ago, it returns, more impressive and immersive than ever, once again reminding us of Rockstar's undeniable talent for writing unforgettable stories. Timeless!

Fourteen years. That's how long we had to wait before Rockstar Games finally deigned to offer Red Dead Redemption on PC. It's long, very long, too long and too late for some, and we can understand them. However, the adaptation and optimization work carried out by the Double Eleven studio (former Rockstar Games employees) allows us to offer the best version of the game, notably thanks to new features such as native 4K, DLSS 3.7, HDR10, widescreen compatibility and keyboard-mouse play, not to mention all the work that has been redone on lighting and light effects. It's sublime. So of course, after so many years of waiting, the game suffers from mechanics that have aged like these textures and animations so 2010, and a Dead Eye that obviously hits less hard with the surgical precision of the mouse. But these few flaws are nothing compared to the adventure that awaits you in this adventure that depicts a Far West like no other game has ever done. With in addition this absolutely masterful soundtrack, this sense of narration, this unique writing, we can relaunch John Marston's last crusade, if only to cry once again... Masterpiece.

Red Dead Redemption is a bona-fide gaming classic that until now had missed the PC crowd baying for it to come to the platform. If you’ve yet to play it, this is simply the best way to play if you have even a passable PC or laptop, and puts a shine on a game that we can’t recommend enough.

This is the best version of an amazing game but the asking price considering its age is something that may put buyers off. But if you do lash out, know that Red Dead is as good as it ever was, if not better.

Red Dead Redemption returns and is only marked down a single point due to the near-perfection of its sequel, this is nevertheless the definitive way to experience John Marston's story, with a fresh lick of paint and an update that may just transport you back to when you got off that train the very first time. Just brilliant.

Red Dead Redemption on PC is a testament to the power of timeless design. This version not only preserves the magic of the original, but improves on it in significant ways. The fluidity of the unlocked framerate, the sharpness of 4K resolution, and the improvements to draw distance make this, without a doubt, the best way to experience this modern classic.

It is indisputable that Red Dead Redemption is a masterpiece, a superb western and one of the best Rockstar games. If you haven't played it, you're going to enjoy it in a big way. But at the same time, other factors, such as the price or the lack of major improvements, slightly overshadows what should have been a great debut.

After 14 years of its initial release on consoles, Red Dead Redemption has finally arrived on PC, and it’s still relevant! And if it weren’t for Red Dead Redemption 2, it would have been the best Western Action Adventure experience on the market. That’s how good RDR was and still is, and that’s how any developer should design their games.

How exhilarating it is to travel the Wild West in the shoes of John Marston once again. Red Dead Redemption ages like a fine whiskey and proves that a video game work ahead of its time ignores the ravages of time. All the qualities of the original game are found in this PC version and much more. Playable in optimal conditions at 144 frames per second in 4K, Rockstar Games' western is living its best life on PC 14 years after its first ride on home consoles, even if it obviously suffers from the comparison with Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption is an amazing experience and is one of those games that defined a generation of open-world titles where movie-level storytelling weaved into the action you got to control. The game is sure showing its age with each port that is released but it also gives players that may not have been around back then another chance to explore its world. If you’ve already played it, you won’t miss anything, but if you were looking for an excuse to see what the hype was all about, wait for a sale first.

Red Dead Redemption on PC is still an unforgettable game that both new players and fans of the series should experience. Despite its age and visual limitations, it still delivers legendary entertainment value that undoubtedly makes it one of the most memorable western experiences imaginable.

One of the most popular games of all time has finally arrived on PC after 14 years, where it can easily be played on any modern hardware configuration. Its exceptional storyline, strong performances, and diverse array of in-game activities ensure that it remains a must-play for anyone who enjoys open-world games and Western films.

Red Dead Redemption remains an example of excellent writing and characterisation. Its setting is atmospheric, and there's a reasonable amount to do, even if there are slight engine annoyances and some repetition in the mission structure.

Red Dead Redemption is an exceptional game, and its PC port more than delivers, offering a well-optimized experience even for less powerful devices. Even so, it is missing some substantial additions or improvements after so many years of waiting.

Finally, after fourteen years, Red Dead Redemption also arrives on PC. The title has aged very well, unfortunately this conversion brings with it countless technical problems.

This cult western has long been absent from the PC, although its sequel was released a few years ago. Rockstar has finally released it on this platform, but with outdated graphics and a high price tag.

Red Dead Redemption will always hold a special place in my heart and mind. To me, it was what storytelling could be for games. It also showed me that Westerns could be more than just what Dad watched. The PC Port is fine. It’s nothing special to groundbreaking to write home on. There isn’t any new story additions, but I do think it’s a great game to pick up if you want to roam what is left of the untamed west while you still can.

After more than a decade, the generation-defining classic Red Dead Redemption arrives on PC, but the landing is not the nice one you'd expect after such a long time. It brings new life to the pictorial world created by Rockstar Games, but an incoherent stability and the price wall makes it hard to justify the purchase.
  21. Coming to PC after years, Red Dead Redemption was disappointing with outdated graphics and a high price. Rockstar seems to have presented the game with minimal effort without updating it.

Even after 14 years, Red Dead Redemption remains a good example of how to do a proper Western in video game form. The main adventure is more focused than the sequel due to the relatively smaller cast and scope of your travels, but there are also plenty of side-quests that make it worthwhile to divert from the main questline. Undead Nightmare remains one of the better zombie games out there, and it still feels distinct after all these years. You just wish that there was more work done to the graphics outside of adding HDR and upping the brightness, especially since they're charging $50 for a 14-year-old port. The game is still worth adding to your library, but you might want to wait for a very good discount.

If you've never played it before, then Red Dead Redemption's re-released state is the best on PC. Just make sure you're not paying full price for it.

14-year-old adventure, which despite only minor adjustments is technically at its best on the PC. The dramatic story and the gripping soundtrack in particular still manage to inspire, but the price is high and the quality of the game is no longer quite as high as it was in 2010.

Rockstar took a long time to launch it on PC, but the wait was worth it. Even so, after all these years, they could have done more. [Recommended]
