Do not pay more than 30 bucks for this game...better still, play Witcher 2, Stalker COP, Hard Reset, Amnesia...even Doom 3, as it's lighting effects DESTROY Rage's.

    One of the worst releases of all time. If it hasn't locked up before getting to the actual game, I am faced with 0.1FPS and textures that do not load. No in-game graphics options, too. I can't even comment on the gameplay because I can't experience it despite trying numerous driver sets.     DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. There are a myriad of issues, texture pop in, flicker, no graphical options, mouse lag, mouse acceleration in menus, no v-sync, no advanced graphical options, AND DID I MENTION THE TEXTURE POP IN? Terrible terrible port of the console version. Sad seeing this from the PC masters ID. How low can you get. DO NOT BUY.

    I'm giving this game a 0 because I'm unable to play with the textures being so annoying. If this gets fixed in a week I might consider giving it 8+ depending on gameplay, but if it takes longer I'm not giving it any higher than a 3-4 for a unacceptable release and untimely fix

    This game is abysmal. I'm running it on one of the most powerful systems around, with a $500 RAID 0 SSD stripe. Texture streaming is not acceptable. On top of this, I can't get into the second area of the game without crashing, and textures are beyond screwed up. The gunplay is ok at best.

    I can't believe that iD released this PC version without proper testing. This is sad, I was expecting a great gaming experience but instead I ended up spending my hours on the Bethesda and STEAM forums looking for fixes from other users. Nothing worked so far and the new ATI Rage driver is a joke. What's worst is that it seems that the blurry, muddy, low resolution textures are part of theI can't believe that iD released this PC version without proper testing. This is sad, I was expecting a great gaming experience but instead I ended up spending my hours on the Bethesda and STEAM forums looking for fixes from other users.     Don't know who is to blame, id or AMD. How can you have developed a game and not tested it with current drivers to see that it does not run properly. It appears the issues are worse for people with AMD cards. For example, crashing as soon as the game launches. Having to download a "Rage" driver to fix that, the game then freezes every 5 seconds. Making it unplayable.

    This game is awful, If you buy it, you support demons. If you care about gaming at all, DO NOT BUY IT. I cannot stress to you how many tweaks and changes I've had to make to get it to run, This is not my job. They have wasted MY time and MY money, if you own a pc don't let them waste yours.

    I paid for a PC game with PC graphics, not a game with console graphics that are actually worse than the actual console graphics. Don't buy this lazy money grabbing port.

What I downloaded was a game so blatantly unfinished, it makes me wonder if any of the developers tested the game on PC at all.     Horrible, horrible game, just don't buy it, it'll never be patched. Are Bethesda and Id thinking we are sheep? That we'll buy their games just because it's Id? They are wrong. Stupid, horrible, ugly, buggy game.

    (PC) Horrible experience trying to play this game. This game is plagued with game and graphic glitches, especially for ATI graphics cards. The graphics options are horrible. In spite of the graphics the game is not interesting either, its boring. This is by far the worst game ID. I pre ordered this game based on ID and Carmack, and this was a complete disaster. I want my money back.

    I am unable to comment on the story or game play. I could not get that far as all I can say is that this game has a very strong bias against running on an ATI HD5700 with the "Wrong Drivers" or with the special "Rage Drivers"

    The game is unplayable, keep checking your preferred gaming media site, and until the reviews say otherwise, don't spend that $60 burning a hole in your pocket.

    What can i say. buggy, slow, poor performance, no graphics options worthwhile. This is a disgrace to the game which seems to be quite good on the console.

    How can a developer release a game as buggy as this. Definately not worth the scratch until the bugs are fixed and even then i want to be able to increase the graphics settings!

    After Paying for the game and then not being able to get past the opening vid, i have tried all the fixes recommended and still cant even play the game, CTD as soon as opening vid ends if you try to change any setting you get a immediate CTD once you hit accept.
    When will Developers learn if it doesn't ship in a working condition people wont buy anything else from them ever.

    Be warned before purchasing this for the PC. Very buggy, screen tearing, textures not loading, CTD, freezing, stuttering, ect.
    I pre ordered this game thinking that big names like iD and Bethesda would for sure release a working product, maybe a few bugs expected but not so many making the game unplayable. I have requested a refund. DO NOT BUY!!!

It wouldnt be so bad if the game wasnt so buggy and broken. They had way more than enough time to put out a finished product and yet they failed oh so hard. Clearly there is a massive skew with the magazinesite reviews and the experience users are seeing. So thanks to those who saved me some money. And to ID, these reviews matter.

    Completely unplayable on release. Even with the various forum fixes and the new drivers. A huge let down by ID, one of the developers I still respected. My specs are far from minimum, oh well back to DX:HR at least they somewhat tested the game on PC before shipping.....

    DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL IT IS PATCHED AT LEAST

However instead of enjoying a great game, I'm tweaking and reading the internet and learn about the memory of textures, v-sync etc. But did I pay 50 euros for that? To me this is the moral bankruptcy of IDI pre-ordered Rage because I trusted ID Software and Bethesda and was looking forward to a great PC game.     expect to go back to certain levels over again for a different mission. they use every "level" 2 times to make the already short game longer. nothing like beating a area and going right back to it for a nother mission.     All technical issues aside, this is a very bad game, poor and outdated level design, a fake sand box which is in fact more linear than any "scripted game". Mega-texture is a joke, it replaces most modern geometry by low resolution and terribly compressed hand drawn textures. Everything looks fake from the gamedesign itself to the way it looks. Carmack can't hide it no more, he is an has been.

    You should know something is wrong with your game when the best parts of it are secret Retro-graphic looking areas alluding to your old... good games. Unfortunately ID didn't and we got this masterpiece of turd that makes gamers.... RAGE.

    This game plays like a bad console port, I have been trying to get it working since launch and when it finally works the texture pop-ins are horrendous and the game crashes every 20 seconds.
    I've seen some bad launches but this is inexcusable. Stay away from this game.

    I just registered because I wanted to warn PC gamers. I'm using Win7 64 and the game freezes with every step I make for ~10 seconds, even the hardest fanboy couldn't play with that handicap. Also there are A LOT of texture pop-ups - if you turn, textures will take 2-3 seconds to fully load.

    The ending killed it for me. It was clearly supposed to be a 20-25 hour game but it got cut short.

    Incredibly anti-climactic. Invisible walls everywhere to the point that it's almost like they don't want you to explore what I thought was supposed to be an open world. The shooting is fantastic, so are the enemies. It's the one thing they did right in the game and did very very well.    The ending killed it for me. It was clearly supposed to be a 20-25 hour game but it got cut short.

    Unable to even start the game on my high-end PC no matter the settings or driver versions. I would never have expected this kind of failure from Id-software but i guess they are just as bad as the rest of the video game industry.

    This game is a greatest fail of this year I am not going 2 buy Skyrim because Bethesda screwed up; pirates are so lucky they didn't play for none working game!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This gets a zero because it's the perfect storm. The game comes out broken. No apologies, just Carmack saying update your drivers and blaming ATI and Nvidia (I for one have had no problems with nVidia or ATI, although I know some people do). An apology for this disaster would have went a long ways for me. But all we got was a lot of double talk. The game itself is a lot of smoke and mirrors...it's just a corridor shooter in masked (and not so masked) corridors. The story ends without so much as a boss fight, just ends. Everything they put in there to make it a "deeper" experience actually just makes it that much more apparent as to how shallow it is. No longer a fan of iD, and I am ok with that. I can play Stalker, Witcher 2, Batman AA, Portal 2, Crysis 2, Hard Reset, any Half Life, Amnesia, Capsized...just anything really, besides iD's buggy, rushed, shallow products. I mean, Half Life 2 had solid shooting, superb atmosphere, interesting enemies, no rpg elements, no upgrading etc, but awesome characters you care about, and a story that's not too overbearing but done just right. They should go to the school of Valve

    Don't bother spending your money on this game since you won't be able to play it.
    Sadly a bought it via steam so I can't get my money back.

ID used to be a legendary company, but this game is a horrible console port, a dated linear and boring game that seems like it's stuck in the past.     Had many issues as many other folks here. Gameplay is linear, repetitive with lazy game design eg like DA2. For a 3 DVD install the game is way too short and has only 2 parts. The ending is terrible and abrupt. Carmack is joining Romero in Daikatana hell!

    Gee, I'd love to actually review the game, but it doesn't even start. The screen goes black when I launch the game, then it crashes to the desktop. I bought/installed the game yesterday (19 Oct 2011), I figured they would have released some kind of patch by now. I'm running Windows 7 x64 with a quad Xeon 2.66GHz (Nehalem architecture), Radeon 5870 with 1GB vRAM, and 16GB of RAM.

    $50 for a bunch of pure bugs. If it don't crash after the intro, you get a "desktop second chance" at the main screen. And when it run (after 1 or 2 hours), it's slow, buggy and unplayable.
    One thing i'm sure about this game: it's name is the best choice. That totally describe how i feel today !!

    The graphics are great but the plot is dull, the driving bit of the game isn't fun, the ending is awful, the shooter part of the game is unimaginitive, its very linear, the multiplayer is apalling, there's little replay value...I could go on but you get the idea and the game does really feel like a bit of a tech demo.

    This game is just a tech demo of id's game engine, there are quests, an underlying fps matrix, vehicle riding, but what's missing entirely is the gameplay and my will to continue playing the game after 4 hours of utter boredom. I feel sorry for id's artists right now because they did a great job.

    stupidly buggy it feels like a straight up port, the game is barely playable as theres a severe graphics problem I get when i play this game causing all sorts of textures from guns and other stupid things to replace the environment they really need to patch this game! from what i have played it feels really linear and i do feel cheated out of my £30

    Horribly boring in today's age of Call of Duty style presentations, this is a game you should pass by every time. Lame story combined with just boring shooter elements, this is not a game you should be playing if your a diehard FPS fan. 10 years ago, this game would have been good. But by today's standards, this is a boring FPS that lacks the content to make it relevant.     What more is there to say? It is a terrible PC port in which PC owners were scammed. If this was any other industry iD would be sued for sale of goods not fit for purpose.

    I am just glad i finally finished, this game is absolutely awful, stuttering video redundant, go here go there game play total letdown I so wanted to love this game tried multiple fixes to no avail DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, free is still too much to pay for this CRAP!!!!!

    Appalling experience, huge disappointment. 2 evenings of trying to get the game working on my laptop. Downloading drivers, game crashing and now I have GL error and can't even start it. Be warned - you will despise yourself if you buy this - the game couldn't have been properly tested as it is just about unplayable on pc.

    The game doesn't work, it runs smooth but textures are bugged, spent two days trying everything, it won't work for me. I kinda feel like I've been stolen, we should all bring them to court and get our money back, you can't get stuff that doesn't work on the market and steal peoples money like that, this should not be legal...

    Very disappointing, just another **** generic shooter poorly ported to the PC. Combat is repetitive and boring, story is uninteresting and **** and definitely would not recommend to anyone.

    I am glad I only paid $5 for this game. Considering the studio and the people behind this title, it should have been better. I won't repeat all the same complaints you heard a million times.

    I will add one positive, the mini games were at least amusing for a short time.

Especially for a graphic designer who knows 3d software myself, the texture is so heavily compressed, you can see the artifact which in Photoshop term "Over-Sharpened".     And the story is just plain and uninspired, I have no urge to keep playing after the first few missions, the world is dull, the characters are dull, and everything looks very dull. There's nothing driving me forward. Unlike Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas, both sucked me in for weeks, even months, not even counting the DLCs by the way.

    In the end, I just don't see any reason you would want to play this game, I don't see any merits in this game. Mind you this is very rare for me, I usually do find some small things that's worth noting in some very bad games, but in this case, Rage simply have nothing for me to recommend to others, so sorry to say this, but don't buy this game. Play Fallout or Elder Scroll series, that's the kind of open world game you would want to play.    … Expand

    The game is full of bugs and it's poorly optimized for PC. Very bad game and disappointing. There aren't many weapons and the gameplay is very boring...

    Made an account just to say I've never played this game. Which is funny cause I own it. Pretty sure Bethesda should have been sued for this pile of crap. I was never able to get passed the sequence after the really amazing looking intro.

    It seems id Software is still living in its golden days and failed to notice that times have changed since Doom and Quake. Rage is just a decent, linear, old school shooter combined awkwardly with an arcade racing game. The world is only 'kinda openish' and the story must have been written by the coders while they were compiling the alpha version. The game looks great though – if you're lucky enough to have the it run smoothly and without technical issues that haunt the PC version. [November 2011, p.46]
