There are lots of good things such as:
    - Live show
    - Junction choices
    - Actors
    - Plot
    - Background based on quantum physics.
    - Difficulty level

    Only negative thing:
    - Choices do not affect the game enough, so replay-ability is very limited.

    I would give a 9/10. Thanks Remedy!

It’s ok, but mostly missable if I’m being honest. The story has its interesting points and the acting is generally good. The graphics are nice, but the game runs poorly even on high end hardware. The gameplay is pretty meh, run and gun with powers that are not as interesting as the onscreen effects want them to be.

It’s certainly not as interesting as Alan Wake was.

+ Twisty plot with variations depending on forks you choose, unconventional narrative through gameplay sequences as both protagonist and antagonist but also with long live action cutscenes in between.
+ Nice scriptwriting, dialogues, compelling characters with decent sound acting.
+ Well-built environments with stunning attention to small details.
+ There are those upgradable supernatural powers you get to better deal with your enemies and circumvent environmental obstacles. Not saying they are unique though as we've seen tons of this already.
+ Some of the scenes are pretty dope, especially navigating and fighting during "frozen time" later in the game. Definitely produces a wow-effect.

    Contra:

    - Resource black hole graphics that still has quite many glitches/artifacts for its supposed quality. On my 1080 Ti and 2K resolution I had to dial down some settings for playable (>60) FPS. The game sure looks good but nothing to justify its requirements and performance.
    - Game crashes every now and then.
    - Despite the plot forks, levels are shallowly linear.
    - Shooting-related mechanic feels wrong and immersion breaking. There's that insanely strong unnatural radial bullet spread (accuracy and recoil don't work like that), range is limited on many weapons (like bullets dematerialize at some CLOSE point), obstructive aiming camera with too much parallax at close ranges where a lot of action happens (at least give the guy a laser pointer to deal with parallax problem), bullets are weak like .22LR and take a lot of time to kill both protagonist and enemies, not to mention pistol ammo is infinite (I guess spoils of black hole and time-travel techs, but seriously it's just babysitting the modern casual "untergamers" - the maps have occasional infinite ammo backpacks for resupply so why the hustle).
    - There's no stealth and melee is very limited which means the game boils down to using the sloppy shooting mechanics in all confrontations. Yeah, showing its weak side all the time.
    - Cake walk for kids, even "hard" difficulty is not hard at all. Add health regen to this problem, gone are the old sour days of Max Payne where you would twitchly search for painkillers because game didn't forgive your mistakes. There are no options to make the game challenging enough for a die hard player while it's the easiest thing to do with a simple numbers tweak. Damn, you gave the guy superpowers but his real superpower is that he eats bullets like a tank, heals like a demon and has a black hole pistol clip.

    In summa:

Not recommended for purchase, it will lag terribly on anything below 2017 hi-end PC and it's a one-pass amusement after all - replayability despite all the plot forks is small because the core aspect of the game - shooting - is pretty bland, unsatisfying and thus repetetive like a chore, not to mention the linear level structure. It has no multiplayer anyway so you know where to get it for a free try...

Quantum Break too is very good: it has a good story based on time travel following the immutable closed loop approach where effect becomes cause (think Terminator 1). I liked the characters too, and yet I missed the desperate brilliance of Max Payne or the incredibly inventive atmosphere of Alan Wake (that concert scene, wow!).
On the other hand, this game has sky-high production values and it shows, and combat is IMO much better than it is in Alan Wake. Unfortunately play time is *really* inflated by the search for collectibles, and there is too little combat compared to everything else. Chat. Go there. Pull that lever. Climb there. Pointless mini platformer level. More walking around. It's possibly more a movie than a videogame, especially if you consider the TV show part.
Still, I loved it in many ways, and look forward to Remedy's next work of art. I feel bad for those playing it one year ago, with all the problems, and respect their low ratings.

Recommendation: Yes. It has a cool story and fun gameplay.

On a special note, the port is bit messy. It took a lot of tinkering to get rid of the camera judder. The motion blur was terrible but could be turned off with a launch command. The graphics as a whole were a bit blurry, there was no sharpness to them.

If you have the exact same specs as an Xbox then it's playable. If you have any different type of hardware in your system then you're out of luck. It took them 2 months to make it playable for AMD processor owners.

As for gameplay, it copies several different games. They've taken the 'TV Show' aspect of 2010's Alan Wake for the story, and borrowed the time manipulation combat from Capcom's 2013 game Remember Me. What was meant to be groundbreaking just looks dated and derivative. The graphics even look last generation, which makes it puzzling as to why the game runs so poorly.

In conclusion, it's still not recommended, even months after release.

The game also has a ton of text that you want to read to better understand the history, and it is a good idea because it greatly reduces the pace of the game. The gameplay is just great! I have received great pleasure from using abilities. I play on PC, and kicked with the bad optimization, this heavily influenced my impressions, as the graphics are beautiful, but not outstanding, and very blurry.

The storyline is also interesting. Granted time travel is a plot device that is intrinsically interesting, all you have to do is not be awful from that point. The branching storyline and your actions effecting is a cool concept, but ultimately feels forced and inconsequential. By the end of the first act I was already done hunting for extras.

Exploring and finding the little tidbits wouldn't be so bad if the movement and parkour weren't god awful. Seriously, in a game with awesomely cool time physics and stuff exploding and moving around...why do people move so awfully? I wish they spent a fraction of the time on player movement that they did on the environment, the juxtaposition is annoying.

The shooting is pretty standard, not a lot of gun choices and your powers are pretty standard.

The motion capture is good at faces, I started the game going "Hey that's Iceman!" "Hey that's Littlefinger!" "Hey that's the junkie guitar player from LOST!"

21st of November, which is important for this review I suspect. I've almost completed the entire game (win10, 64bit pro) on a mid-range graphics card and a high-end CPU. I bought the game via Steam, and I can understand that the Windows Store version is still quite buggy. So get the Steam version as it at least works on my machine well.

The game is just simply great. The story line, the character development and all. This is more a long movie and a good read, than a FPS game. If you don't like long video sequences and just want to blow things up; this is not for you.

But for those who love a good story, like the balanced approach of shooting, exploring and letting the game suck you in; this IS for you.

It's a bit scripted, but to tell a full story in this detail I guess it has to be. It is at least not very open world and possibly makes creative thought a little too easy. Nonetheless I enjoyed this title immensely.

The visuals are definitely one of the best in this generation. Gameplay offers quite good powers and as a Sci-Fi lover, I've found the story pretty cliche but still quite excellent. Characters are pretty deep, especially with the TV Show. Acting and storyline are interesting in the TV show, it's a good thing that the game characters' faces are looking like nearly real.

Back in time, I loved Alan Wake. Now, Quantum Break shows it's all glorious storytelling, narration, and characters. Puzzles are pleasant. Action and narrative are greatly balanced. I never got bored while in combat/action sequences. Also, the game includes many and many collectible things. I don't love to collect things but they are really detailed.

With this narrative and visuality, Quantum Break is a great action game. Besides these praises... Quantum Break's final boss is not interesting at all. The main villain is Paul Serene and you always get in a competition with him but he seems just a villain which blindly follows his mind. Paul Serene is a deep character until the finale and the final boss fight is just too weak. I expected a great boss fight against Liam Burke and one versus one boss fight against Paul Serene. Whatever... Ending is a cliffhanger ending which opens the doors to a sequel.

First of all, the PC port is pretty bad. And while game maxed out looks pretty neat, yet the performance is all over the place and you need solid PC to even bother with the game. Now by default you get upscaled resolution, but the games looks quite bad with it at any settings (overly blurry and not sharp). Turning off upscaling (meaning game renders in set resolution) basically cuts performance by half. On top of that, game feels laggy at times even at 50-60fps, while other times it feels more responsive even during fps drops.

The game had massive potential, great idea, good core of the story are already there, but there were some bad decisions and design choices made, that hurt the game severely:
    - TV show + game - bad idea and while it's not the worst tv show out there, yet it was interrupting game flow severely.
    - Terrible gameplay design - very repetitive. Basically you do some platforming, get to an open area, beat some bullet spongy bad guys - and repeat. Now while time manipulation powers are cool to play with, gunplay ruins it all - which is very primitive, with clumsy movement and shooting controls, to the point where game doesn't even feel responsive.

They should have do more story telling thru gameplay (now 90% of it is done in the cutscenes and notes you find thru out the game), that would make gameplay more interesting and diverse, because now you just fight exactly the same dudes over and over again in the same manner every single time and there is nothing more to it..

It could have been great game, but Remedy chose a bad path and we've got a product which is neither a proper game, neither a proper tv show.. Too much cinematic bullcrap, when you make a game, you can't forget it's a game and it needs solid gameplay and this game doesn't have it.

A very ambitious title with interesting tech, but you play so little. Most of the time you are watching cutscenes or episodes. Even when you are playing, a lot of it is just walking and pressing X to open doors. The actual fights are interesting, but they are so few and far apart that you never get engaged. After finishing the game, I still didn't get the plot. If you want to understand it, you better stop and read all the emails on random screens in the game (as if this game wasn't making you sit and passively look at stuff enough already). In the final boss fight, no matter how many times you lost, you had to watch the same unskippable cutscene again and again and again and again. I was about to throw the controller at the screen at that point from frustration after hearing the same unskippable dialogue for the 10th time. This game doesn't know if it wants to be a movie, an actual game or a novel (all the emails you have to read). It ends up being a short, scrambled mess that could have been much more. Also, the PC port was inexcusably poor. Unless you have a 980ti (or something like that) and an SSD, you can forget smooth fps and expect endless stuttering and even freezing. I wish they'd never released it on PC. F*** this game. Expand

The movies are a tad long, and could have been chopped a little bit, and some game time inserted here and there.

The graphics unfortunately, Microsoft will have to do a better job next time, and take Ubi's recent releases, as an example, related to graphics, i'm being indulgent this time with the remarks, and the score, but the optimizations are not of an AAA game, and neither are the graphics, it's very clear that the game was though and built for XBOX, and then ported to Win10, probably as an experiment or something. The Win10 availability isn't a problem for me, i have to admit it was a bold move, but so was ROTTR, built for consoles, adapted and ported for pc game play, and that was a masterpiece, so no excuse here, as it had no predecessors, to learn from past mistakes.

Quantum Break starts slowly and with a hint of mystery and steadily builds in both story tension and pace over the course of the entire game.

The visuals are great at 60fps if you have a machine that can max it out. Thats not to say its perfect as there are still kinks that need to be worked out with dx12 and the uwp platform but overall the game is no slouch. I ran it on a 290x paired with a 5820k and 16 gigs of ddr4 without any issue. Im quite confident remedy will be updating the pc version in the near future to further improve the visuals as well but people need to understand dx12 is new and older hardware will struggle especially older nvidia hardware and cpus that have less than 4 cores AND CANT multi thread. the sound design and vocal performances are also phenomenal. Gameplay is also absolutely on point. Alan Wake was somewhat of a let down in the gameplay dept as it never evolved over time (no pun intended) but Quantum Break keeps changing as you move forward. You gain new abilities and you level up those abilities.

There is tons of story in this game. Finding emails or objects not only add to the in game story and fill in some history and motivations they also alter the live action scenes you watch so not everyone will see the same thing every time. How much of the story and what story you get are entirely up to you.

These story objects are easily tracked in the menu and you can go back to any point in the game to find something you missed or do something in a different way.

Overall a fantastic game that I can see myself playing multiple times. I rated the xbox version a 9 and knocked a point off on pc because of the current lack of visual options however i believe that will change soon. I also believe alot of people are scoring it too low on visuals and performance because they have issues running it. Its very likely those issues are their own machines and not the games. Again currebt nvidia hardware struggles with dx12 and amd doesnt. Alot of gamers are also running core i5's which cant multithread abd dx12 relies on as many fast threads as possible. Thats where its performance gains lie so be aware of that fact when buying.

If your pc is up to snuff you will have no issues and the game will look good and run fantastic.

It is a lot like the first Tomb Raider (2013). One power is like Dead Space's stasis, which can be used to slow enemies or fast-moving objects. It is used in a few light puzzles. Another power is like the rewind power of God of War: Ascension. You use the powers in combination with guns to stop enemies, like a more-advanced gun-and-flashlight combo used in Alan Wake. It is linear, fairly short, and doesn't have much variety in the fighting or enemy types. But it is very cinematic, with a good story and great acting. It looks amazing. The time break effect might not be for everybody, but I liked it. It is a whole lot of fun. It could use more of everything, and maybe tie the live-action episodes into the game a bit better. But overall, unless you are expecting a 40-hour fetch quest or RPG like Fallout or The Witcher, you should give it a try.
As for performance, the max setting are future proofing. It looks great using medium settings and plays at a decent frame rate for an action/adventure. I was able to play it with high and ultra settings at 45 fps or more. I do have a 4.0GHz i7 and a R9 390X. It is true that it isn't optimized as well for Nvidia, but when Tomb Raider came out 3 years ago my computer at the time couldn't handle her fancy hair at all. But with the hair turned off it ran fine. This is a similar situation. It is totally playable on lower-end hardware with realistic settings and it will look better than anything ever did on a 360 or PS3.
The worst technical problem was having to upgrade to Windows 10, which broke my wireless Logitech controller and my audio card. I had no crashes and no problem with my regular old 7200-RPM hard drive. The only real problem I have is that I am sad it is over. I hear the replay value isn't great, but I will play it again just to see if any of the "choices" actually change the live-action cut scenes.

Quantum Break is a pretty awesome and fun game, if you see it purely from a story and gameplay view and ignore all the small (but really annoying) bugs like the bad optimization for PC (low fps, stuttering, random freezing/crashing). However, I'm willing to look past it because they decided that they were gonna bring this game to PC instead of being just an Xbox One exclusive (I was almost tempted to get an Xbox One just to play this game). The graphics look really nice and i wish I could play at Ultra but currently I'm only stuck at low :( because of my rig (GTX770) with resolution of 1080p. The frame rate is certainly not the best and it does sometimes freeze my computer. But the cinematics, graphics, story, gameplay are all top-notch.
    Cons:
    - If your comp isn't up to recommended, you might have low frame rates, freezing crashing issues etc
    - Jumping is a bit annoying in this game, kinda clunky (like Alan Wake)
    - Real-life episodes streaming relies on your internet speed. And even though it's just a video, it sometimes have low fps like in game
    - Getting skill points requires you to look for special thingies to gain a skill point, would've preferred a level up system instead and have that as an optional thing
    - Starting a new game apparently wipes EVERYTHING
    Pros:
    - Loving the gameplay, the powers, the shooting, everything.
    - The real life episodes are really nice to have. You can even go back and watch them again
    - The story is pretty damn interesting. You might get confused because of all the time travel stuff though
    - It has Aidan Gillen (Petyr Baelish AKA Littlefinger from Game of Thrones) in it! xD (my personal pro)
    - The graphics are really pretty, if your comp can handle it
    - You can go back to any previous acts/parts to go and find the stuff that you missed
    - You can go back to any previous acts/parts to change your decision and watch what happens
BTW, just a tip for you if you're planning to buy the game from Windows store (which is the only way you can buy it for PC), you can change your region (search region in your windows) and get a cheaper price for the game. I switched my region from my country (Malaysia) to another country (Thailand) and the price went from 250$ to 190$ (rough estimate).

But most thing i hate about this game is story. It's so awful. Not going into details, but i felt like i played most egocentric, stupid and self-righteous main hero in history of computer games. While main "villain" was more like normal hero - trying to save humanity while making some sacrifices. WTF Remedy?! I thought Max Payne 2 had an awful story but this... this is much worse. After scene with Liam in Monarch Tower i just like "f*ck, i'm done. I can't play any more like this peace of **** And all this **** just to find that Jack had absolutely no plan at all from the very beginning. If you don't count "i'll go back in time and ask my brother what to do" as a solid plan to save the world.
Plus all this pseudo science sh*t. Just go with elves and dragons if you can't think of something even remotely coherent. So believe me, story is awful and had a lot of loose ends. Maybe they will be explained if you choose other ways on time crossroads but no sane person will do multiple walkthroughs just for that (remember there is no saves here).
So i don't recommend this game for it story and other elements are sub par as well - as a TPS resent Rise of the Tomb Rider is a better game and this TV series wannabe elements just meh.

The one thing I know is that there is simply no way this game could have passed quality control on PC. I've played beta tests that are more "stable" than this. Anyway. I give a 4 for one reason. The game from the perspective of someone that enjoys games with cinematic storytelling is good. Not the best but a decent 8. But as AAA games require computers and consoles to run, we can't simply review how "good" the story is. No matter how groundbreaking a game may be, if it simply doesn't run well, it.....SUCKS. So there you have it. Thankfully I got the game for free with console version (somehow I felt Microsoft was going to use my PC for beta testing UWP). Had I payed $60 for THIS, I think I would be so upset that the score of this review would probably be a "1". Only one other game in recently memory managed to mess things up as bad as this. AC Unity. And back then I pre-ordered the freaking Collectors edition. I have to thank Ubi for making me consider my buying options carefully. If it wasn't for them, I would probably had bought Quantum Break on PC thinking it would just "run fine". Thinking. In fact a whole lot of standard pc options are gone and the whole UWP system prevents the community or yourself to remedy (no pun intended) alot of it's faults.
If Microsoft is serious about getting back into pc gaming, they need to get their act together. This is an unacceptable pc port.
As for the game itself it is mediocre at best. You spend about a third of the time doing the standard console actiongame slow walk looking at things and talking, a third watching live action cutscenes and a third using some powers and shooting the same 5 or so different enemies the entire game. The Powers you have are cool but are pretty similar to eachother and the action turns bland pretty fast. You do have some choices to make but none of them matter in the end. Add to that the bland and boring gameplay, a replay is out of the question.
If you really want to see the cutscenes from the other choice you are better off watching it on youtube than playing through this game again.
The story is not bad but it's pretty "meh".
As for any good words about this game all I can say is the game does have some nice lighting and it looks pretty good despite an upscaled 720p (although not as good as it could), also the acting is top notch.
It's definately not a buy imo at full price.

The main selling point of the game, IMHO, is the story. Simply put, it is excellent, and I think it is one of Remedy's best works yet. It is about time travelling - a topic which is extremely difficult to write a good plot about. Yet, they pulled it off. Not without hitches and some plot holes, mind you, but they are not major, and overall everything boils down to a very coherent and competent story that can very well be on par with the best works of fiction of this genre in other media. I am very picky about my time travel movies, but this game hit all the right notes with me. The only thing that bothered me was the ending: it wrapped up most story arcs quite well, but left some questions unanswered hinting at a possible sequel. Knowing how that ended for Alan Wake, I would prefer they did not do that. Although I would absolutely love to see a Quantum Break 2.

The gameplay was fun as well - overall shooting and using your special powers in action sequences was a blast. Although there were not as many gun fights as I expected. Also, no slow-motion, Max Payne style, which is weird considering the theme of the game - basically you can freeze time only locally by creating a time bubble in certain spots. Also there is no hip fire (to shoot you need to aim first by holding right mouse button) and no blind fire from cover, which I found odd. Nevertheless, these are minor nitpicks.

The music, as in any other Remedy games is top-notch, and atmospheric. The visuals are nice, especially I like the effect they used to show time raptures, which permeate the whole game - it is quite impressive.

Unfortunately, the game was poorly optimized. The technical requirements are way too high, and there were some strange graphical artifacts on my screen at times (I mostly blamed them on the fractures in Time that were happening in the plot, so it was not that bad :) I was running the game on High settings on my GTX 970, and overall I did not experience any serious game-breaking technical problems with it, even fps drops, which others are talking about. Again, the experience could be different for everyone, as the port is not perfect.

I am giving a 10 to counter all the other reviews, because people are sometimes being just ridiculous. The game itself is a strong 8 or a 9 for me. It was a blast to play, and I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed Alan Wake, Remedy's previous work. I strongly recommend it to all action-lovers, and people who love games with strong plots. Well, at least after they have patched the game up a bit and ironed out all the technical hiccups, you should really give it a try.

P.S. As a bonus, the game even contains a mini series with live actors, which is shown between episodes (which you can skip if you are not that into it). It is very professionally done, and just shows you how much effort and care went into the game.
