Above all else, the most meaningful stride forward is the new collision system, which so much now hinges on.

It still plays great, better than FIFA - but we are fed up with graphics downgrades for PC gamers.

Although technically once again inferior compared to the next-gen-console-versions, PES 2016 is one of, if not THE best football game we’ve played in the last six or seven years, mainly due to its completely overhauled tackling system and smoother animations.
  4. Pro Evolution Soccer legacy is back. Gameplay mechanics, ball physics, AI, multiplayer, animations... All these things improved. The matchmaking system is very fair. You may want to buy a PES game for the first time since PES 2012.

Thankfully, the Pro Evo becomes a competitive series again this season. If you do not care of licenses or crappy referees then you can expect a great football game. [Issue#257]

While it's a shame that the PC users are treated as second class citizens, KONAMI after many missed years, finally delivered on the gameplay front. With its enhanced AI, the very well implemented collision system and snappy controls, PES 2016 has by far the best gameplay we've ever been graced with from a football game. Let's hope next year's PC installment won't be so much different than its console counter parts.

Quick and dynamic football game with incomplete licenses and (for PC version) ugly visuals with a few technical problems. Even a couple of regrettable changes in gameplay can’t cover that PES 16 offers a unique football experience.

PES finally finds the balance between stout sim and accessible arcade, but a poor port cast shadow on an otherwise great game.

While other developers of sports video games (namely EA and 2K) develop for PC alongside PS4 and Xbox One, Konami decided to port a past-gen version. So, PES 2016 is pretty much the same as its predecessor — it’s not a piece of old junk yet, but it should have stayed on the sidelines.

No matter what stars you have on defense, it always resembles Swiss cheese. So, the most difficult task isn’t to win the match, but to keep score is more or less true to real football – i.e., no more than 4 goals per game on average. [Nov 2015, p.89]

An open, responsive football title with a lot of individual player freedom, but one that also has dodgy keepers, absent fouls, and the usual iffy online environment. The PC community may bring it up to scratch, but at release it’s an ugly port that does a disservice to the game within.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 is a decent football game and the best gameplay offering from the series since the glory days of PES 6; however,Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 is a decent football game and the best gameplay offering from the series since the glory days of PES 6; however, this being a PS3 port at a price of £40 is utterly disgraceful and I cannot recommend the game whatsoever taking this alone into consideration. Don't be conned by the screenshots or details published on Steam as these were taken from the far superior PS4 version using a completely new build of the Fox Engine - something the PC version is NOT running on.

The engine used in the PC version is exactly the same as PES 2015 and to add further insult to injury; it just just an enhanced build from the 2012 edition published back in 2011. Graphically, it shows as the visuals are extremely drab and the textures are quite frankly appalling. Compared to the PS4 release; not only is it significantly worse; it's actually embarrassing to play the game in this state. The user interface which is probably the only feature that has been significantly overhauled is even more cumbersome and annoying than in previous titles and is the final nail in the coffin on a pitiful product.

If you can get past the humiliation of playing on a piss poor PS3 port in 2015 after paying full price; you'll actually enjoy the experience but even the most hardened Pro Evo veterans will find this joke hard to take. EA Sports did the same on PC with FIFA 14 by releasing an old gen port but at least they were honest about the situation months beforehand. The fact this is full price is just insulting and that the squads haven't even been updated on many teams from the current transfer window suggests you're better off obtaining a refund and just going back to Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 instead. Shameful performance from CONami.
