Mar 28, 2015PoE is a great example of a game with strong gameplay and storytelling features. Its challenging and complex, but the tooltips and well organized journal will get you through it.
There are bugs, most are just annoying but you will have to deal with them. Still only about half as buggy as you would expect from a kickstarter game. -
Mar 30, 2015It s like a machine time. You will feel as you were 17 years old again.
Baldurs fan, welcome home.
It is like a geme from a old time. It doesn't take you hand, you have to seek the goal for yourself.
Buy it! -

Mar 26, 2015This game isn't for everyone. If you care much about visuals or graphics, and little for story or gameplay, you should try another game. But if you, like me, are into story-driven CRPGs, then you should really go for it! Chris Avellone is a good writer, you can expect a great setting and a good story from this game.
-
Mar 26, 2015Marks the return of the greatest RPGs ever made. The tactical combat of Baldur's Gate, the rich story and companions of Planescape: Torment and the gorgeous environments of Icewind Dale, all melded into. It is all that was promised and more. Welcome back Greatness.

Mar 26, 2015Type of game that i've been waiting for faaaaar too long.
Rich, immersive, reactive. An actual role-playing game (shocking!). What else needs to be said? -
Mar 26, 2015This is the dawn of fund-independent gaming companies with kickstarter projects. The game follows the path of its succesors Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale & Planescape Torment. -1 score for not including oldschool romance options and multiplayer support like baldur's gate.
-
Mar 26, 2015Nothing short of amazing. Everything from the compelling story and beautiful backgrounds to the tactical combat screams awesomeness. It's great to see a game in this day and age creating such an interesting and exciting world with new unique elements, while still keeping what makes the infinity engine-games so wonderful.
-
Mar 28, 2015So far so good, nothing crappy going on. Graphics are good. Combat system is nice. The game has an initial challenge. I really was worried about prepurchesing this game (from past experiences with other companies) haven't had any regrets so far. So far lovin it! (3hrs)

Mar 27, 2015What Baldur's Gate once was in 1998 Pillars of Eternity is today. Outstanding game, if you loved Baldur's Gate buy it now, without thinking. You will not be disappointed.

Mar 26, 2015Essentially, this is an Infinity Engine style game². Storytelling, RPG aspects and stunning 2D visuals are above anything else released in last decade.
-
Mar 27, 2015It's big, beautiful and lovingly crafted.
I'm 8 hours and I'm hooked, if you love fantasy then do yourself a favour and give this a much needed try.
Losing 1 point due to no coop. The only thing that would make this better is being able to take a friend along with you, even as just a drop in fable 2 style coop. -

Mar 26, 2015NO QTE events.
Bland graphics.
Great party companions.
Story driven game.
Tactical pause combat.
CCRPG at its purest.
Wasn't for the occasional #%$! fetch quest, where Dragon Age Inquisition is South pole, PoE is North pole. 'nuff said. -
Mar 26, 2015This is what Baldur's Gate 3 would have been if that game was ever made. Same team, same type of isometric RPG. Epic writing, excellent story and game mechanics.
I don't understand why you wouldn't buy this game if you loved Baldur's Gate. -
Mar 26, 2015today is a great day this game is awesome a brilliant oldschool rpg i'm glad to be a backer and helped to get this project done.
dont listen to the haters and call of duty kids rpg players will love this game. -

Mar 27, 2015I've been waiting for this game for over 10 years and Obsidian delivered beyond my expectations. When I realised I'd spent 40 minutes on the character creation screen alone, I knew I had "found my game". Been a long time since that's happened.

Mar 27, 2015First time I felt compelled to write a review for a game on Metacritic but this game warrants it. This is the kind of wonderful, painstakingly crafted CRPG that truly does not come around very often. Buy...This...Game. Lastly, anyone that would give this game a 0 just to bring down the score is simply a moron.
-
Mar 26, 2015I had this fear that the game will suck, or It will be missing big on some areas... but thankfully i was wrong
Even the Graphics are good that i was sure it would like diablo II, so they can deliver all that game-play... -
Mar 26, 2015I rarely write reviews but if you are a fan of Baldurs Gate,Planescape etc then this game will take you to a place that makes you smile.I just hope this game does well maybe we can get more like it in the future
-
Mar 26, 2015An amazing game. If you like Baldur Gates/PST, this game is for you. Great storyline, with interesting characters, an also you can create them like in Icewind Dale. Not good graphics, but... who plays a game for the graphics? Gameplay is all, and this game is superb in that area. A must play is you like rpg.
-
Mar 26, 2015This game is absolutely fantastic. We're pretty much looking at a new classic among the modern cRPGs. I'm so glad that people from Obsidian had a chance to work on this.

Mar 27, 2015Plain and simple:
It's an rpg, a trip back to the glory days, when games where made to entertain and not turned into franchises with season passes, ingame Shops, day 1 dlcs etc.
And nothing like Bioware's dating simulators of late.
Great times, Divinity: Original Sin, Wasteland 2, now Pillars of Eternity and Torment on the horizon. -

Mar 27, 2015Easily 10/10 buy it now and ignore the trolls below. be victorious against the trolls below and rate a good score if you really played the game. you now it is good.
-
Mar 26, 2015This is BG3 for me. Different mechanics, obviously different lore, but the exact same feel. Better writing. If you liked either BG, or any of the IE, games, I don't see how you could find this game anything less than well worth your money.

Mar 26, 2015The 4 people that are reviewing Pillars of Eternity with 0s or 1s must be part of Bioware stuff that can't bear the envy of Obsidian making the best RPG in decades while they keep making elaborated dating-sims. Pillars of Eternity is a modern classic and everyone with a liking for true RPGs must play this jewel of a game. As simple as that.
-
Mar 27, 2015This is by far the best RPG since Baldurs Gate 2. No modern AAA crap. Wonderfull graphics, awesome music and great gameplay. This game is huge. If you liked the old RPGs lige Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale and if you agree that all Dragon Age titles after part one were pure crap than you will love this game.

Mar 26, 2015El juego es simplemente perfecto, es una saga en si, es un clasico siendo un juego reciente, lo recomiendo tiene todas las caracteristicas que hacen un a un CRPG perfecto.
-
Mar 26, 2015Best rpg in years! Obsidian have done an amazing job with this game! Amazing writing, great tactical combat and its just a blast to play! Simply amazing, go and buy it now!!!! Godsidian!
-
Mar 26, 2015This is the game Infinity Engine fans have been waiting over a decade for. We can finally be happy to have a crpg focused on roleplaying rather than action and made for pc without the need to consider console limitations.
-
Mar 26, 2015I've played only 5 hours this far, but i absolutely love it. It feels like Baldurs Gate 2, with some thoughtful improvements and it's the first RPG for years which makes me really excited, it's a shame I have to go to work tomorrow. Buy the game and support the devs, great work!

Mar 26, 2015Outstanding masterpiece... I have played it for only a few hours and it was more than enough to realize how much we have been lobotomized by the 'modern' rpgs. I will update this when I finish it, but for now I can't think of a better tribute to all the great classics we loved, while improving almost every aspect of these games.
-

-
Mar 28, 2015Well I'm gonna make a big statement and say that I prefer this game to Baldurs Gate 1, (not 2 yet maybe by the end) but there is something to do on every map and its not so punishing at the start on certain classes, the story is awesome and really like the companions i've met so far.

Mar 26, 2015A great, fun game that reminds me of the old days. There are a few things that need to be tweaked and polished but overall it's a solid release that has kept me occupied for hours already. There have been many failed "Baldurs Gate spiritual successors" - this one is the real deal.
-

Mar 27, 2015i have never written a user review on metacritic because i'm lazy but this game is way too damn good not for me to make a ranking and tell you guys this is literally on par with BG2... the most epic rpg ever.... get it if you're into old school rpg, i can't say anything bad about the game because its really that damn good.

Mar 27, 2015It would take my far too many words to sum up this game. If you have played Baldur's Gate or Icewindale. This game is simply beautiful - the developers should be simply proud of themselves. It is a glorious tribute to games of this genre.

Mar 26, 2015The wait was worth it. 2 years after the kickstarter campaign, here it is. And it is brilliant, flawless. A masterpiece... The only problem I have, is I can't play it as I want. If I do so, i'll loose my job, some of my friends, 3 or 4 months of real life, and maybe my wife ... Hollydddaaayyys ! Here I am !
-
Mar 26, 2015Well, all the people giving this 0s and 1s are just trying to bring the user score down because they want to see bloodborne higher or just to troll. First great game in years
-
Mar 26, 2015Can I just say YES!
Yes. yes, yes!
What a fantastic reminder of my youth this is quickly turning in to. I'm feeling the same euphoric game play I had when traversing Shadows of Ahm for the first time, all the while now being pleasant surprised by excellent mechanics.
Inventory and party management is excellent.
Lovely audio.
Classic graphics with a stunning atmosphere. -
Mar 27, 2015Finally a game that brings back the good old memories of great games, which we lost for so long. It feels like a mix of Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment to me, but it takes the best things and makes the overall experience even better. The graphics are lovely and fitting and the depth of the game is breathtaking.

Mar 27, 2015I played Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2. These two sagas are the best thing I ever played on pc. Now I must add at these two even Pillars of Eternity.
It's an amazing game, period. I hope to see future expansions and sequels. -

Mar 27, 2015Truly a successor of old school cRPGs. Incredibly beautiful locations, nice and stylish characters models and animations, captivating story with unexpected turns. All details in the game are done excactly as they should be done in a classic cRPG. By all means classic reborn and it's one of few true cRPGs in the recent times.
-
Mar 27, 2015Finally a true story-driven RPG. An instant classic. This is the Baldur's Gate 3 that we never had. It brings back memories but also takes the genre one step forward. Good job Obsidian!
-
Mar 26, 2015This is how crpg should look like. Awesome story and mechanics, a tons of text, great characters, tactical combat and no "modern" crap, like dialogue wheel, romances etc. Real game, for real old-school players.

Mar 27, 2015This game is the successor to the old Infinity Engine games, without a doubt. When the combat starts the game screams BG / IWD at you. It just feels right.
-
Mar 26, 2015I created a Metacritic account tonight to specifically give this game a 10 out of 10. Pillars of Eternity really does capture the feeling of adventure that few games since Baldurs Gate has been able to achieve. Thank you Obsidian for a job well done!

May 25, 2015Pillars of Eternity stands on its own merits without resorting to nostalgia too much. Truly a CRPG masterpiece, the game offers old school, real-time strategic combat, and a vivid world to explore. Not only do you get an overall well-made experience, but also a challenge you haven't seen since the 90's.
