    now that i think about it, this game is exactly my ex-girlfriend. they lied to me, they cheated me, they took all of my money, they wasted a year and a half of my life, they gave me **** promises and when they are broken, they never apologies, their birthdays are in October, like holy crap when i see the name payday2 the words change to alyssa, i broke up with her, time to brake up with payday2

Some of us realized this after the DLCs started to arrive very quickly and in great numbers. Even at that point I still thought it was ok.

    But then, on the 15th day of October (This is only 2 days later!) they released a reward for us. We didn't expect it, so it hit hard. Micro-transactions. Yes, you read right. Micro-transactions in a game that already has a price to begin with AND NOT TO MENTION WITH A LOT OF DLCS.

    I suggest not to buy the game or even download it during the free-weekend, it is that bad. Everyone is furious about this and that is how things should be. Overkill screwed up and they are going to pay for what they have done. Almir, you betrayed us all.    … Expand

    -devs dont listen and dont answer to the community on problems,bugs,broken content and content there community dont want(even things that are there from the release of the game just fix minor things)

    They sold us a game, we bough it, amazing game, with some flaws (some even game breaking) but we waited patiently for a fix, that never came (Civilians running behind a wall you cant reach and call the cops... a bug that appeared in the beta, 4 years later still there.)

    Up until Oct. 15, 2015, this was my favorite co-op multiplayer experience of all time. I have purchased all but the latest DLC, much at full price and including packs of weapons I have never used, in support of the developers and the product that has brought me more hours of enjoyment than any item in my library. I have enthusiastically recommended this game countless times to friends and acquaintances, inspiring more than a few purchases. In my professional career, I have pointed to the lack of microtransaction content as a functional business model that respects its audience while providing a constant stream of new gameplay options.

    As of Oct. 15, 2015, I can no longer recommend Payday 2. In the weeks leading up to that date, the developers of the game hosted a series of challenges that, when completed, would unlock new updates that would be free to all owners of the product. On that date, the first of a ten day "Crimefest", the feature revealed to have been unlocked was... microtransactions.

    After completing a mission in the game, the player has always been awarded with a virtual card that is flipped over to reveal a new modification for a weapon, a cosmetic mask, and other unlocks. With the new "free" update, this reward can be replaced with a "safe" object. The safe contains a weapon skin of varying rarity as well as the possibility of unique weapon modifications. Very rarely, these weapon skins can add a statistics boost to the weapon when applied. These safes can be opened with a special "drill" object. The catch is the drill can ONLY be obtained by payment of $2.50 (and up) on the Steam Marketplace. There is NO method of opening a safe outside of this financial transaction.

    As a long time supporter, this is a betrayal too harsh to bear. The game has been uninstalled and I will not be playing, purchasing, or recommending products by OVERKILL or Starbreeze Studios from this date forward. They have lost this once loyal customer and many others with the addition of this "feature".

    TL;DR - Pay-for product contains microtransactions for potentially non-cosmetic rewards - 0/10    … Expand

Now this is only one instance to display the disregard for promises and statements made by their own development crew in OFFICIAL statements. Along with the disappearance of a quarter of a million in prizes for last years paydaycon which the community still has no clue where it went. I loved payday and on release despite the heists lacked the same intense driven feel as the original I still loved payday 2 but after a while not only did the quality of updates in general go down but the avalanche of DLC content was carrying the same level of disappointing effort and no real quality to justify their price point. All in all as the game stands and the continued disregard for player input in favor of a more profit driven dlc fest has created a sadly broken game.… Expand

On this date though, an update was released that just destroyed one of the things that was so great about it. Payday 2 used to be a game with DLC. No pay to win.     With the last update the game was linked to the Steam inventory and now it is possible to buy 'drills' for 'safes' which can drop different 'quality' weapon skins. On october 15 this game went from a great game to what CS:GO is or what Team Fortress 2 has become with the stupid hats. The microtransactions used to unlock these 'unique weapon skins' are a blunt way of squeezing out the last pennies out of a community that was truely loyal to the game and developers. And we hate them for that.

    There are many great Steam forum posts describing how the community feels about this. For now, you may notice that the game score on Steam, Metacritic and other sources has taken a free fall. This shows how dedicated the community is to preserving all what made this game fantastic. And it shows how repulsive we find the idea of this great game turning into a marketplace for my little pony weapon skins that add 20 accuracy to your AK-47.

    Was fun at first. Then started milking community with poor quality DLC's then want to milk the community with micro transactions. The reason for MT is for better content but have continually released poor content.

    A once decent game let down by developers who are either incompetent or just outright dishonest. If you like the idea of seeing most weapons, heists and masks held behind as DLC on top of microtransactions for skins with stat boosts, Payday 2 is for you.

    I purchased the base game, then every DLC up to the BBQ Pack. This is a great game, but at a certain point it just isn't affordable, and now there is more than just the monthly DLC. I am unhappy with the way that Overkill has managed the content updates for this game.

    I will update this review at a point that I WOULD recommend this game.

    - Microtransaction with stat boosts which affect the balance of the game even though it's P2E. Overkill/Almir promised us that there would be NO MICROTRANSACTION in Payday 2(shame on you if you thought otherwise. That rings a bell, huh?). Even the reasons he given couldn't justify what he had done to community(Google it if you really wanna know).

    -The COMPLETELY OVERKILL PACK. This pissed me off the most since I'd paid $20 just to "support" Overkill innocently and what did we get? Only 1 out of 25 weapon skins and every weapon skin is horrendous with stat boosts which Overkill claimed that they were crafted with "love and care" and promised they were only cosmetic. *Double facepalm*

    These 2 most recent cases show how Overkill treat the community with dishonesty and **** I recognize that the purpose of company is to earn profit but this is not how you earn it by lying to your loyal customers and treat them like walking wallets.

    A good game that has been degraded into a money making scheme by greedy devs. Milking the gamers, first with almost monthly dlc containing the best weapons and perks. Now a crate system which means spending money for a random item that may or may not improve your weapons.

    Overkill promised loud and clear "no micro-transactions, instead they popped out dlcs non-stop. I was ok with that because I could still play the dlc heists and did not care much about the dlc guns. After making the game w/ all dlcs cost more than 100 dollars (more than any AAA game at launch) they decided to release non-cosmetic micro-transactions. Stat boosts per say.

    Last patch ruined the game. Unless you have friends that play, or you buy the 90 dollar 4 pack you are wasting your time. Single player is only playable in stealth, and you have to reach lvl 45-50 to even come close to the skills needed to single hand missions. They just nerfed the EXP and money for all heists to the point you are probably going to put in at least 60-80 hours of playLast patch ruined the game.     A higher score review is in a special safe. Which is a random drop. And you need to buy a drill to open it for $2.50. And even then the score is random and might require separate DLC to use.

    I cannot support this and am expressing my opinion of the game and it's developers here. During this "Crimefest" update, Overkill has nerfed most of the weapons to near uselessness. Guess how we get them back to usable level? Pay-2-win skins. Yup. Not only that, but many of the content that we as users have to work day and night to earn during this event would be included in some form of a paid DLC if we didn't accomplish the objectives.

    Really disappointed at how far they have fallen since releasing Payday The Heist. I might still give that game a good rating.    … Expand

Overkill claimed that they are " discussing this problems with our staffs and community members", but I personally think they are considering whether to impale us deeper with their blade of treachery and deceit.

    This backlash is an incredibly good thing. I'm pleasantly surprised how vigilant this community is - and as far as I'm concerned, this is the correct way to respond against any other developer and publisher that wants to take advantage of their community.

    - The AI is beyond awful. The developer tried to account for that by throwing hundreds upon hundreds of cops at you. Your teammates take no objectives whatsoever, instead just lingering around, shooting infinite ammunition. To your utmost frustration, they don't even bother to pick up a bag or flip a switch    I'm sorry to say that I'm frustrated how poorly this game was developed.

    - The AI is beyond awful. The developer tried to account for that by throwing hundreds upon hundreds of cops at you. Your teammates take no objectives whatsoever, instead just lingering around, shooting infinite ammunition. To your utmost frustration, they don't even bother to pick up a bag or flip a switch directly next to them.
    - Stealthiness is limited in unreasonable ways. You have to put dead bodies you want to move into one of your limited body bags, and answering pagers randomly fails.
    - Missions are made challenging in frustratingly dumb ways. Trying to hack a computer? The cops will switch one of three circuit breakers. Of course it's entirely unreasonable to have all three covered, and the cops only need to brush past them to force you to go through the hoops of flipping them and starting the hacking again, all of which takes so much time that doing an entire 3-day job will literally take up to 5 hours.
    - Unlocks. The objective is of course to level up to get unlocks. By limiting the number of body bags you have, or allowing you to reduce the amount of drilling time from ridiculously insanely long, to only insanely long does not a funner game make.
    - Cards. Randomly flipping cards so I can unlock a new mask? Give me a break.

    I'm so frustrated by what this game could have been, that I've only begun to hate it for all it's annoyances. These guys simply don't know what makes a game fun.

    The constant disconnects and the game constantly pausing while peers (re)connect only adds to the general malaise that is PAYDAY 2.    … Expand

The ONLY reason it isn't at 0, is because it's fun when it isn't broken. Other than that, the entirety of the game is a flop.
    Combat is worse than CoD and WarZ having a baby, with L4D2 staring at them from a chair in the hospital room. You have mobs of cannon fodder enemies who die in 2-3 hits. Then, you have enemies who take 3 entire magazines to kill, and can kill you in UNDER A SECOND.
    Here's a list of the special enemies:
    Shielder: Annoying enemy with a riot shield. Use teamwork and hope it doesn't aimbot-lock onto you.
    Tazer: Stuns you, causes your gun to go off spazmastically, and impairs the ability to look. When you're attacked by 7 at once (which usually happens), you can't do jack ****
    Cloakers: They jump in through vents, or exploit the game's pathetic physics and spawn behind you. They have this magically ability to start sprinting at over 40 MPH, and instantly down you. This is like a tazer, but worse, as they spawn more, more health etc.
    Bulldozer: Your standard juggernaut. Except that he, statistically, has over 100X more **** health than you. I've checked. He can also kill a fully armored character with max stats and perks in 5 hits, with a fast enough RPM to shoot 3 times per second.
    What I am trying to say is that this game is pathetically unfair, the combat is absolute **** the stealth is unrealistic with enemies and cameras that have X-Ray vision (Could be another of the MANY glitches), and no driving factor to keep playing. Most levels are copy-pasted with only a name that is changed. (There are about 5 levels, all with a different title, that are the same down to the VEHICLE PLACEMENT.)
    This game is a frustrating borefest not even worth 5 **** dollars. You MIGHT like it if you enjoy horde-type games where every enemy has more health than you, but if not, you're better off buying Ride to Hell.    … Expand

    Probably the worst game I ever played. I really cannot recommend this game any less. We have put up with a lot of bull crap over the years. Broken and delayed promises. Shovelware dlc. And a whole host of other things. But this really takes the cake. Uninstalling and never playing again. Hope overkill either changes or dies.

    I have been with the community since Armored Transport and I played PD:TH a bunch before PD2 was released. I haven't played Payday regularly since the Western DLC earlier this year and I was hoping that Crimefest, with the new free content, would be good enough for me to want to get back into Payday 2. Instead, Crimefest has left a sour taste in my mouth, and, like a lot of other seriousI have been with the community since Armored Transport and I played PD:TH a bunch before PD2 was released.     I bought all of the DLC on their release days up to the Western Pack, and even bought the $20 Completely Overkill Pack so that I could support Overkill, paying easily over $100 on this game. Hell, I even thought it would be cool to work at Overkill at one point because they were actually good and made solid content for one of my favorite game franchises. Were the heaps of DLC not enough? Did they run low on cash to burn in the furnace? Did Starbreeze just want to see how far they could push it? Nobody knows, seeing as neither Overkill or Starbreeze have made a statement regarding the update yet, saying that they are going to wait until Crimefest is over.

    With the recent events making all of the pieces line up, from Simon Viklund and Ulf Andersson leaving, to the failure/cashgrab that was Hype Train, I feel ashamed that I was a part of it, and angry for being betrayed by a studio I trusted. Bad business practices, broken promises and money-grubbing cashgrabs is what we get in exchange for that trust.

    Please, don't allow business practices like this to happen, especially in a game that costs money to play and has over 100 dollars of DLC. Don't buy Payday 2, even if it is cheap on Steam.    … Expand

    In the case of Payday 2, the developer promised there would never be micro-transactions in the game period. They repeated this promise on many occasions. The game has a price tag, and has an unholy amount of DLC (20+ DLC packs!) that already sell power creep.

    Now though the devs have decided that they would like to squeeze $2.50 out of each player after most matches by rewarding safes that have to be cracked via an item that cannot be earned in game.

    It's so damn sleazy, and sadly the power creep items pay walled in the chests cannot be earned any other way. What a sleazy thing to do.    … Expand

    A lot changed on 10/15/2015. Crimefest 2015 started and the first thing they did was to add microtransactions. The community has made it very clear they do not want this model and this was done in a very underhanded way that has possibly permanently scarred many players trust in the developer. If they keep microtransactions in I will not only no longer purchase DLC, I will likely not return to Payday 2 because the state of the game and the community will continue to degrade from there. At this time, I cannot recommend anyone buy this game. Right now, that would be like buying a sinking ship.    … Expand

    Other problems:

    the loot system is a "skinner box" at it will take you at the very least 500 hours to unlock all modifications for the weapons in the game.
    De-sync problems
    No arm or leg hit-boxes
    The vanilla weapons are almost always inferior to the DLC weapons.
    There are more than 100 dollars worth of DLC
    Some of the DLC's are a must buy.
    Horrible anti cheat system (there are a lot of cheaters who no clip, do massive damage, spawn a lot of Enemies, or make them not spawn, etc, ruins the fun of the game)
    There are micro transactions within the game with stat bonuses (they affect you're weapons, like more damage better, accuracy, less recoil, more ammo, etc)

    the only think I can recommend is that you don't buy this game, not even on sale, stay away from this **** of DLC Milking, micro transactions and broken promises from the developers.    … Expand

What hurts the most is that the "PR Manager" if you could call him that, "Almir", decided he would pour gasoline onto the fire at the end of it all, with no apologies, basically telling the hardcore fans they don't matter, and that he's happy with the changes they made.

    Overkill managed to destroy the game. They had a huge community with them. They had all they would dream of. Now they destroyed the game with P2W microtransactions and "balance". Dont even let me start on Completely Overkill Pack.

    Dont buy this game, dont support developers like them. In the end, they only care about the money.

    Devs lied to us about microtransactions and made a lot of DLCs explainin they need money. Spoiler : they got 6 million dollars or more with just the game(?)

    Why not just bring a bad game's score down even lower if it truly deserves it? The developers decided to ruin the game one day, and they did a very good job at it.

    Microtransaction, and the Play to win system that ruins the game for most...it Just too Much. Not to Mention the Completely Overkill pack Ripoff that depressed the most Loyal fans that bought it...enough is enough.

    Overkill have made a once incredible game awful by releasing over $100 of DLC, a large portion of it being considered mandatory to do well in the game by the games community. If that wasn't bad enough, Overkill have added microtransaction skins in what is called "safes", basically CSGO or TF2 cases, but you can't sell these and you can get skins for guns you don't have the DLC for, forcing you to buy DLC to use skins you paid for. They **** up the balance of the game as the skins give boosts to your guns, giving you an edge over players who don't spend extra money (though that was already the case with the dlc's), making it pay to win. They also promised to not add microtransactions in the past.    … Expand

    I feel bad for new players, because this game was pretty fun before the micro-transactions and **** DLC.
    PAYDAY 2 has become a shake for money, and OVERKILL really doesn't care about their fans.

    The core game is very solid, especially with friends. But as the game aged, it has become a poorly optimised DLC fest, with a very unbalanced micro-transaction system.

    The core game itself is good.However, Overkill has implemented pay2win micro transactions in a game where the base cost of the game plus all additional DLCs exceed that of AAA games.

    I dont know what to say
    A game filled with bugs, DLC's and now micro-transactions.
    Avoid this game like cancer. Coincidentally cancer and payday 2 are similar now.
    Avoid buying this, just buy anything else, it's better.

    PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
