While the first couple of levels truly were terrible, if you can manage to get past those, the game actually starts to become fun, in spite of a few respawning issues early on. I was ready to shelve this game as a bad purchase after level 2, but I persisted into the suburbs, and found that I was starting to have a good time rescuing the hostages. And the levels just kept getting better While the first couple of levels truly were terrible, if you can manage to get past those, the game actually starts to become fun, in spite of a few respawning issues early on. I was ready to shelve this game as a bad purchase after level 2, but I persisted into the suburbs, and found that I was starting to have a good time rescuing the hostages. And the levels just kept getting better from there. By the time I finished the game, I had to sit back and say to myself, "You know, that wasn't a bad little game." I'm actually considering a second playthrough. This isn't a grade-A title, but then again, it isn't trying to be. I'm satisfied. Expand

  1. Even the promise of blowing away the most generic of terrorists in Middle America isn't enough to make Patriots anything more than a rote, mind-numbing shooter.

It's too hard to be any fun. Not hard in a challenging way - more in a stupid, dull way that has EASY opponents refusing to shoot, and HARD opponents taking perfect cover and sniping you from the moon. [July 2007, p.84]
  3. Most games are labours of love that many people have obviously spent a lot of time on. Patriots, however, feels like it was made in an afternoon by three bored computer science students. Please avoid this.
