Awesome classic RPG. Definitely worth playing. Yes, there are a number of performance issues on the release. But it will be quickly fixed and an amazing game will remain.

This is a tremendous game that keeps getting better. I always want to like these rpgs, but tend to get bored. It builds a compelling world, with a good range of characters, who can be quite amusing, or do unexpected things. FunThis is a tremendous game that keeps getting better. This is SO much better than Kingmaker, which I hated. Much more interesting plot, setting, exploration, battles, and no timed quests or stupid kingdom management like the first game. Highly recommended for CRPG fans.

I would reiterate ShakkaZu's review about this game being plagued by serious balancing and pacing problems. I couldn't get through Act 3 because of a combination of the enemies with 60 AC and the horribly implemented Crusade mode.

However, I think a lot of the issues with the game are inherent to DND 3.5e/Pathfinder 1e as a whole. There is a reason why DND 5e reduced AC and attack

However, I think a lot of the issues with the game are inherent to DND 3.5e/Pathfinder 1e as a whole. There is a reason why DND 5e reduced AC and attack bonuses -- to reduce the tedium of having to cast 100 buffs and debuffs so that your characters are actually capable of hitting npcs and vice versa. Unfortunately, Owlcat decided to be 95% faithful to DND 3.5e/Pathfinder 1e, which is why this game is such a tedious and frustrating slog.

Would not recommend at full price. If you're in the mood for a CRPG, try out Solasta: Crown of the Magister or wait for the much, much, much better Baldur's Gate 3.

It can be described as - 100 hours of grind and mediocre history. There are no elections as such, and those that are are false and do not particularly affect anything. The hike mechanic will get bored in half an hour and will annoy another 5.

Difficulty fluctuates. Some locations and enemies fly through the air. Some with inflated and unbalanced stats have to win *loads* waiting for a favorable random.

The plot is uninteresting. Only act 4 was successful, it is good and interesting - about 5 hours against 50 uninteresting (approximately)

Don't even buy the discount! And if you want, then lower the bar of waiting to the plinth.

I lov tabletop rpgs and i am always up for some solid mechanic system, and good narrative. Kingmaker had a sound bit of both. Storywise I couldnt stand how railroading it was, leaning big time on that kind of DMing in which there is a perfect way to do things and it is very well hidden. I mean if you want me (the player) to experience something just let me with adventure and not with mechanics based on frustration and reward. In Kingmaker the railroading was both in story and game mechanics. You could not experience a great deal of things if you didnt have high perception/persuasion and arcana and basically no class could outmatch sorcerer or kineticist. This was a stain on an otherwise very rich character creation and development system. WoTR has a lot more freedom and this allows a lot more creativity. WoTR has a perfect path (caothic good and Azata) and true ending too, but the development of the player character is a lot less based on frustration and there are many more and smoother viable ways to play. The mythic mechanic seems actually a counter to the frustration mechanic of Kingmaker, and i like it. i like also the fact that with mythic path they openly go epic and apotheosis like.

While I honestly could not stand almost all the companions in Kingmaker (all somehow tedious, except Jaethal and maybe Kailikke) i was honestly impressed how well written are the companions in WoTR and how rewarding their quests are. At the beginning i was like 'meh thats Valerie but black' or 'thats Octavia but brunette' but i was wrong. I loved Daeran above all, then Arueshalae and Sosiel (albeit his hidden ending making the difference) and i was honestly surprised by Seelah's character arc (she seemed the lamest at the beginning). Storywise, staples are all in there but they are played in a wiser and more enjoyable way than in Kingmaker. So overall WoTR makes for a good bit of fun and creativity, and this is all i ask from an RPG.

The combat is very similar to Kingmaker, so if you hated that you likely won't like this much more, if that's the case with you I would recommend using a mod for immortality and auto battling in real-time with pause. The replay value is incredible, and the world and dialogue is incredibly immersive. Your choices in the game truly matter and there are plenty of them. I found the characters to be excellent and very interesting, I truly wish I could bring along every companion on every adventure just to see their reactions to scenarios and dialogue and banter with each other. The music is absolutely splendid and definitely something I'll listen to outside of the game frequently. There are a few bugs at the moment, but I haven't encountered anything particularly annoying and Owlcat has been releasing very frequent patches so the game will likely feel very stable before long. Personally, this has already become one of my all-time favorite games and I believe it is absolutely worth it at the full price which isn't even 60$ and I would recommend just about everyone give the game a try. 3.

Graphic: 9,5/10. It's a good mix between iSOMETRIC REALISM (Path f exiles) and Handpainted textures, with a fine attention to the details of the 3d models (you can feel the attention to the details when you see, for example the elements on a table or the shapes of the enlighted mushrooms ina caves). The result is a pleasant fantasy enviroment. The game is flowing well on ultra detail but I owe a 3090 (3d artist my job). Some problems (like in others game such as divinity 2) when the camera view intersects walls. I mean probably if they change the tilt they could overcome this but... They would lost all the actual perception of the volumes. Some effects are amazing: particles effects of spells for examples or the evniroment atmospheric effects (storms or fire). Every element of the inventory actually change the skins of the character when equipped. UI is nice and tidy, and well integrated in the fantasy envroment (all the options and fields builted on a clean cream paper where clear font with medieval ornaments are easy to read).

Game: 8,5/10. First history. IT's not so original (but many "fantasy stories" are the same), but guys we are playing something that comes from a Pathfinder module and this makes the differences. We have a lot of stories worth to be played: not simply weaves of monsters. I'm Italian (sry for the bad English) and when I play this game usually I try to translate every dialog because I want to follow the story: that's fantastic! This time I don't want to skip the text.
Some bugs? Yes but they make me more interesting in solving the battle in a different way and incredibly you can do this (not like divinity, where in terms of possibilities you have a ton a ways to do the same battle)! But I could sense an hard work in solving these small issues by the patches released on STEAM platform. Switching between turn or real time is fantastic IDEA. But i Love turn base pearsonally!
I really loved to play Might and Magic so the way of the "crusader generale" it's nice. Not perfect but we are speaking of a Game which its core gender is an RPG not a STRATEGY game (if I want this I should play might and magic or Total War or something else).

Sound: 9,5/10: nothing to say about this. Similar to the Lineage 2 during Combat. Awesome.

Graphic and sound are awesome for the gender in comparison with the actual competitors. the game itself deserve to be played!

I mostly play for the story experience. And the experience PF gives you is incredible! It starts as a cliched fantasy adventure of a no-name guy going to defeat a demon-like boss: we are the goodies, they are the baddies, let's go diablo-style on them. But soon you realize how deep it is — there are tons of moral choices, tough ones, that drastically affect how things unfold. This RPG lets you walk the full-fledged evil path yourself (and not just a single one!). The level of reactivity to your actions is impressive by today's standards, as most have forgotten how much freedom we had back in old CRPGs. And the party members are truly gems — I would easily spend another hundred hours with these characters walking a different path. PF deserves the second walkthrough, maybe when all the DLCs come out.

It's really hard to describe how MUCH of everything is in this game - story, classes, skills, game mechanics (Essentially it's four games in one - CRPG, Heroes of Might and Magic battles and army movement, city builder similar to Travian and event management similar to Stellaris or other Paradox games). It can easily dwarf certain MMOs by the sheer amount of content. The game is hard, sometimes even punishing, it doesn't show you an arrow to the right place and lets you explore the world on your own, letting you make your own mistakes and wrong choices. It's a relief in a world of dumbed down modern games, that take you by hand and drag you through the 'optimized', dumbed down gameplay that even a 8-year old can go through. Not here. This game sends you back to the classics of 2000s.

A lot of people have been complaining about bugs, but I personally haven't encountered anything beyond cosmetic or minor in my playthrough. The game's a bit unpolished from the start, yeah, but it's a big step up from Kingmaker, and it's getting so rapidly patched that things get fixed before I even get to them.

And that's all good that can be said about this game. Now with the negatives:

-Writing is so bad, it's not even funny. It's infantile "(Good) Redeem the dude who just ate a baby in front of you." or "(Evil) Eat the baby." all over the place. In Kingmaker i cringed once, when First Crown was found. Here, I cringe constantly.
-Companions. So, there's a self-admitted assassin whose blurb outright states that he assassinates your fellow crusaders? No, as a lawful authority of the crusade, you can't have him arrested and interrogated, you have to hire him to find a dragon, because apparently he has the skills to do so and no one else in your army does. There's a succubus, a demon that's a master of manipulation and you can notice she's lying to you. Nope, you can't kill her, she joins you as a companion or escapes because the writers can't allow their OC Donut Steel waifu to ever get hurt. Makes me miss Darven from Kingmaker, you know the backer-written Mary Sue? At least you could have killed him.
-Difficulty. The game is simultaneouslytoo easy and too hard. In 90% of situation I am the one to get my opponents by surprise and kill them all in the first 1.5 rounds without a spell fired and in the remaining 10% they get to go first in which case half my party dies from fireball barrage. After which I reload the game and go first and win.
-Crusade mode. The battles were fun. For the first 5 times. And you'll probably fight hundreds of them across the game. An average battle can take over 30 turns of clicking on the enemy unit until it dies. Devs themselves evidently weren't confident in the system, as you can set it to auto mode. Except, you can't have good ending then.
-LOADING. Okay, I'm back in my capital. Let's go to the streets and sell all my junk. LOADING. Wait half a minute, as my character runs through the mostly empty map to the shopkeeper. Luckily, there's a bulk selling button, so instead of clicking 400 times, I have to click only 300 selling all the +1 shortbows (bulk selling doesn't sell magical items, but most of them is junk anyway). Now, wait another half a minute as my character runs to the citadel. Now, I can click the door icon... oh except the game doesn't auto select my animal companion so now I have to wait a full minute while my dog runs to the citadel entrance. LOADING. Okay, now that I'm in the citadel it's time manage the crusade. LOADING. A demon army attacked mine. LOADING. I win. LOADING. Now, I have to build something in a city. LOADING. Okay, I'm done let's get out of the city building screen... LOADING. ...crusade management screen... LOADING and I can finally rest! LOADING.

Another broken mess just like Kingmaker with tonns of worthless classes, outdated visuals and animations, non-existent pacing of the story, pathetic mini-game, forgetable characters.

This is an amazing game. People playing a game for 180 hours and giving it a 7 is hysterical to me LOL. Wonderful writing, great characters, choices matter, etc, etc.

You command your own party through the story, AND you also command armies on a larger board to fight enemy armies. SUPER fun.

A lot of replayability, but I'm not ready for another 200 hours slog. I really want to go for the secret ending, but maybe over a year or maybe not. Seen that ending before in Throne of Bhaal.

The amount of stuff it has, from a seemingly inexhaustible amount of options for character creation to the various options you can pick in dialogues, from secret boss fights to challenging but rewarding puzzles, from well written companions with amazing banter to intriguing enemies, is simply astounding. Haven't finished it yet, but wanted to write a review because I am already in love.

    Pros:
    - the story and dialogue. the writing team behind it deserves an award, honestly. some of the jokes cracked me up so much
    - companions. really enjoy getting to know them and they have great dynamic with each other. there are definitely people for you to love and to hate, just like in real life
    - maps. multiple locations that inspire to try various ways of getting around, a lot of skill-based interactions with the environment
    - mythic paths. really makes you feel like you are on an epic adventure

    Neither pros nor cons:
    - the crusade system. it is kinda...there? I am not super into it, but I am not against it either, however, I enjoyed kingdom management in Kingmaker more
    - sometimes you really have to understand the system really well and I mean REALLY well, all the number and the descriptors, and such in order to succeed. but you can also always lower the difficulty, so it is ok

    Cons:
    - I haven't encountered any bugs yet, but people say that the game has a lot of them, so I am cautiously putting "bugs" here

Overall, I am really enjoying my experience with Wrath of the Righteous. Also, about a half of the negative reviews seems to be from people who 1) don't understand/like Pathfinder system and universe, and 2) faint when they are confronted with the fact that gay people exist in life and in video games

Turn base let you ponder every strategic decision, use whole variety of skills your characters posses. Takes much more time, but its much more fun and real DD experience. Fights are challenging and fun, just set your difficulty right :-))

Crusade management is much simplified over land management from Kingmaker and that's great news. Its bearable, but I would welcome possibility to skip this whole thing entirely.

Considering how huge game is and how many decision you make which change entirely how game evolve, didn't encounter any quest or story related bugs. My crusade management didn't level up, but luckily was able to overcome it with some changes in my saves. (without that would not be able to finish the game).

Story is good, companions are interesting, you have to do some tough decisions.

So you think you can breeze through the game on normal difficulty like you would with Assassin's Creed? No way. You will be in for a bad surprise.

The game has the same balancing and difficulty spike problem that Kingmaker already had. But this time, even worse.

You will fight mob after mob that wrecks your party in no time. The game is a F5 / F8 simulator.

If you forgot to buy the only spells that the devs intended you to use, you are f*cked up in some fortress far away from home.

Also, most enemies have crazy Magic resistance. So if your party has 3 casters, they are pretty useless and you won't do enough damage to survive the mobs (often 10 enemies at once).

I would excpect that on Normal difficulty, you can use more or less any spells to damage the enemies. But this is not possible. The devs want you to use certain spells and if you didn't skill your character this way, you can start all over again.

It could have been a good game, but the difficulty spikes are so insane and so out of this world that I just can't enjoy it.

The worst thing about the game is the Crusade Mode. Oh my good...every 2 minutes, overleveled Demon Armies will attack your base, ripping your best armies apart in seconds. And after loosing a couple of times, you will be auto-switched to Auto Crusade Mode. But actually you can be happy that you don't have to deal with this unbalanced mess anymore.

However, graphics and music are good. But that doesn't help much if the balancing is totally off.

    Writing is also good.

I've played this game for about 23 hours now.

    The positives:

-There's a LOT of character build customization. Fans of Pathfinder's vast amount of choice will surely be licking their fingers when creating a character (but probably slightly disappointed when it comes to customizing their looks).

-The voice acting is good and do a lot to humanize the otherwise cartoonishly looking characters you meet along the way.

    The negatives:

-Like people mentioned before there's a lot of bugs and I'm sure they'll fix these, so I won't get into this.

-The game design is often very dated and unintuitive. It can be little things like trying to find shopkeepers in a town (there are markers on the map, but they often lack important locations such as the inn, the blacksmith.) but also, big things like simply knowing what you're supposed to do next. The quest journal doesn't seem to clearly distinguish optional quests from important ones. The quests are bundled by what I assume are titles of chapters or sections, but you can have active quests in chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4... Which would be fine if you knew which ones were important. Especially because of ..

F.e. I couldn’t progress the story for hours only to find out I had to save a couple of hard to spot NPC's that were lying under some rubble next to a church in a large and destruction ridden area. If this is so important games will usually do a much better job with their environmental storytelling to try to lead to player to the location they need to get to advance the story.

F.e. Constantly getting pestered by often pointless random encounters on the world map and being asked to rest every 20 seconds of travelling or face the often dire consequences (people have already complained about difficulty, so I won't).

F.e. The hilariously tedious but very much mandatory army battles. People have complained about this by my god is this system BAD. It's so bare bones and unattractive that the first thing you'd want to do when you're introduced to this is system is just end the tutorials as quickly as you can and never look back.. But then you realize you actually need to spend time (and a lot of it) clearing the map with these armies. Killing all momentum the story has managed to build up. One of the most aggravating things about this is that you must actually spend some of your own gold to better the army (which I'm sure everyone would much prefer spending on sick weapon and armor upgrades when you do manage to find the shopkeepers in this game).

-The story.. There's just simply too much of it, so much voice acting, so much text, so many companions to meet and talk to (even in the very first hour of the game you're grouped with 5+ people all tripping over themselves to try and be the first to tell you who they are and everything they've done the past 10 years.. all when you've barely begun to understand what you're actually doing), everyone absolutely bombards you with knowledge about this and that, there's the history and there's all these factions, clans, creatures, orders... that would be fine if it was presented well or often even if it was relevant to the immediate situation you're in right now. But it just isn't.
I really think less is more in these games and there's a time and place on when to give the player more information about the world. This just feel like a nerd flexing his brain muscles and bombarding you with all the nerdy lore he has found when reading the Dungeon Masters guide.

And then there’s the numerous little things like every time you want to move to a new area you must wait until your entire party lines up in this formation that's close enough to the exit so you can move on. It only takes a few seconds each time so at the start you're not bothered. But after 100+ times it gets very annoying. There are so many things like this, too much to list.

So, all in all, I think the game has potential but has a lot of things holding it back. Some of these things are fixable but others are baked into the core design of the game and would require a complete redesign. For now, I think this game is very mediocre, not worth playing and I definitely have buyer’s remorse after reading mostly positive reviews online. Maybe after a dozen or so patches, I'll give it another shot.

Without getting to into the weeds, overall this game excels at challenging the player while making the combat fun and diverse. The one thing I will say about combat specifically (and this goes for the original as well), is that some enemy abilities such as decreasing levels and specific stats are particularly brutal to get through if you don't prepare ahead of time, which is difficult to do for a first-time player. As far as I know, enemy abilities can't be tweaked by the difficulty either so even if you are playing on the easiest difficulty you'll have to save often or risk losing your entire party to enemies who can decrease your level, stats, etc. Other than that not much else to complain about! Masterpiece of cRPG, new classic and way better than BG 3 Beta. Best game Ive played in 2021 and 2022 so far

The story is good, but the content is repetitive and the puzzles are an extremely annoying distraction. I wanted to love this game, but I got bored halfway through and stopped playing.

I would write a full review, but this website is broken. Awesome game, spent 120 hours over 2 months beating this, and I would do it again.

It looks better than the first game, but the gameplay is just as boring. There are also very frequent updates. They need to reduce them a bit, just once or twice a month. It's been 2 years since the game came out, but it's being updated as if it's an early access game.

In the context of today's classic crpg - this game is the most classic. With each new passage you come across new mechanics and quests. In general, the game is worth your attention =^-^=

its clearly made by super nerd devs ( in a good way) but its held back by the complex system and low budget feel

Great game, with a few game breaking mechanics that make this game best for PC, where you can get a save game edit mod.

First, writing is top notch, with really interesting characters. It's definitely the old style with no handwalking. You'll see a lot of the negative reviews talking about how the quest log wouldn't tell them what to do next, or where to go. It's honestly simple if you

First, writing is top notch, with really interesting characters. It's definitely the old style with no handwalking. You'll see a lot of the negative reviews talking about how the quest log wouldn't tell them what to do next, or where to go. It's honestly simple if you know how to read. It blows my mind how many people cant play an RPG if there isn't a bright shiny arrow playing the game for them. Combat is interesting enough, but since the story is so long, I'd recommend just playing on normal so you don't get burnout. Turn based mode can help you pull out the win on some of the harder fights, but playing the whole game like that would honestly be an absolute drag. 99% of the time can be in real-time, and that's probably for the best. Also, it might be worth it to find a build guide for what ever class you want to play, if you don't like the idea of planning out your character before you start.

There are a few game breaking mechanics that unfortunately make a save edit program sort of mandatory. First was the campaign. If you don't know how to do the campaign, you will soft lock your progress. The campaign stuff is really a weak point for the game anyways, so I'd recommend getting that mod and just making some OP armies to steamroll the map. Second, is the mythic paths that can soft lock you if you have an extremely apposing alignment. I was chaotic neutral and chose the Aeon path which requires lawful. All the lawful choices I was making was hardly putting a dent on making me lawful, so the mod made it possible to just change it.

I will say, it's definitely same-sex leaning for romance. I didn't talk to any of the males, yet every single one of them had romance options pop up miles before the first female one. The female romance is pretty bad as well unless you're playing an evil character.

Overall, I am enjoying this game more than many others. I've found myself playing it more than divinity. Reminds me a lot of games like the Dragon Age: Origins, but a much larger game with better characters.

Phenomenal RPG, most epic adventure I've played in years. Insane playstyle diversity, mythic system also makes for great power fantasy. Good game, as good as pathfinder pen&paper adaptation as PK, but fails in the same flaws, with a decaying history and with little improvements respect the previous one.

Crazy difficult but the most intense fun I've had, right up there with Cyberpunk 2077. ToyBox mod is your friend for real.

Very good game, I had much more fun than with Baldur's Gate 3. Sometimes there was a little too much reading though :)

While flawed, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a grand and ambitious adventure and an impressive adaptation of a popular tabletop RPG. The eclectic characters feel alive, though the thought of that literally being true is terrifying. In some ways, it feels like too standard a CRPG; in others, it stretches the conventions of that subgenre in fascinating directions. The amount of writing here (and pretty good writing at that) is astounding — it’s a rare case where the sheer quantity is a positive, each quest another strand in your character’s tapestry, even if they don’t always hit. As such, if you only play one game you missed out on from last year, it might be this one, as it might be all you have time for. But that decision is less appealing in the shadow of the abuse accusations.

Owlcat Games has made huge progress since Kingmaker. Time limits, randomized elements of kingdom management and other annoying aspects were ditched, while combat and character development return in all their glory assisted by very atmospheric new mythic paths and a bit simple but still cool army management system. For me, the new Pathfinder, Wasteland 3 and Divinity: Original Sin II are a trio of contemporary RPG classics, with the first one being the most faithful to the genre’s tradition. [12/2021, p.64]

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a fantasy role-playing game that is highly playable and extremely rich in content. Although there are still some obvious bugs and optimization issues in the game, it is still the brightest new star in the fantasy role-playing games.
