Very good game, I had much more fun than with Baldur's Gate 3. Sometimes there was a little too much reading though :)

The balancing in this game is horrible.

So you think you can breeze through the game on normal difficulty like you would with Assassin's Creed? No way. You will be in for a bad surprise. The game has the same balancing and difficulty spike problem that Kingmaker already had. But this time, even worse. You will fight mob after mob that wrecks your party in no time. The game is a F5

The game is a F5 / F8 simulator.

If you forgot to buy the only spells that the devs intended you to use, you are f*cked up in some fortress far away from home.

Also, most enemies have crazy Magic resistance. So if your party has 3 casters, they are pretty useless and you won't do enough damage to survive the mobs (often 10 enemies at once).

I would excpect that on Normal difficulty, you can use more or less any spells to damage the enemies. But this is not possible. The devs want you to use certain spells and if you didn't skill your character this way, you can start all over again.

It could have been a good game, but the difficulty spikes are so insane and so out of this world that I just can't enjoy it.

The worst thing about the game is the Crusade Mode. Oh my good...every 2 minutes, overleveled Demon Armies will attack your base, ripping your best armies apart in seconds. And after loosing a couple of times, you will be auto-switched to Auto Crusade Mode. But actually you can be happy that you don't have to deal with this unbalanced mess anymore.

However, graphics and music are good. But that doesn't help much if the balancing is totally off.

    Writing is also good.

It looks better than the first game, but the gameplay is just as boring. There are also very frequent updates. They need to reduce them a bit, just once or twice a month. It's been 2 years since the game came out, but it's being updated as if it's an early access game.

Another broken mess just like Kingmaker with tonns of worthless classes, outdated visuals and animations, non-existent pacing of the story, pathetic mini-game, forgetable characters.
Afraid for that Rogue Trader game - gonna be another flop probably.

First, writing is top notch, with really interesting characters. It's definitely the old style with no handwalking. You'll see a lot of the negative reviews talking about how the quest log wouldn't tell them what to do next, or where to go. It's honestly simple if you know how to read. It blows my mind how many people cant play an RPG if there isn't a bright shiny arrow playing the game for them. Combat is interesting enough, but since the story is so long, I'd recommend just playing on normal so you don't get burnout. Turn based mode can help you pull out the win on some of the harder fights, but playing the whole game like that would honestly be an absolute drag. 99% of the time can be in real-time, and that's probably for the best. Also, it might be worth it to find a build guide for what ever class you want to play, if you don't like the idea of planning out your character before you start.

There are a few game breaking mechanics that unfortunately make a save edit program sort of mandatory. First was the campaign. If you don't know how to do the campaign, you will soft lock your progress. The campaign stuff is really a weak point for the game anyways, so I'd recommend getting that mod and just making some OP armies to steamroll the map. Second, is the mythic paths that can soft lock you if you have an extremely apposing alignment. I was chaotic neutral and chose the Aeon path which requires lawful. All the lawful choices I was making was hardly putting a dent on making me lawful, so the mod made it possible to just change it.

I will say, it's definitely same-sex leaning for romance. I didn't talk to any of the males, yet every single one of them had romance options pop up miles before the first female one. The female romance is pretty bad as well unless you're playing an evil character.

Overall, I am enjoying this game more than many others. I've found myself playing it more than divinity. Reminds me a lot of games like the Dragon Age: Origins, but a much larger game with better characters.

This game in particular improves a lot on the original Pathfinder by offering more classes, weapons, interesting characters, and by expanding on the lore of the first game. Without getting to into the weeds, overall this game excels at challenging the player while making the combat fun and diverse. The one thing I will say about combat specifically (and this goes for the original as well), is that some enemy abilities such as decreasing levels and specific stats are particularly brutal to get through if you don't prepare ahead of time, which is difficult to do for a first-time player. As far as I know, enemy abilities can't be tweaked by the difficulty either so even if you are playing on the easiest difficulty you'll have to save often or risk losing your entire party to enemies who can decrease your level, stats, etc. Other than that not much else to complain about! It’s all bloated nonsense that leaves you feeling awful for paying money to play this so you keep going. - the plot is predictable, too serious, badly written and yet overwritten somehow. There’s so much pointless dialogue and characters and choices that I was wishing someone would just play it for me to get it over with. Trust me your better off just reading a book. - gameplay is tedious and underwhelming, while being plot breaking buggy even at the time of this review. Camping is pointless and stupid, I don’t want to hear these lame nobodies do caphero quips everytime I have to stop to rest… which is about every 2 MINUTES! There is also something called an abyssal corruption mechanic which is pointless, and annoying. The pacing on this game is horrendous. If you don’t have mods don’t play this.

    - combat is altogether boring and extremely complicated for no reason. Most attacks and spells do the same thing but have a different name. All the combat overall should have been modernized and balanced in much greater detail, but when you have a 150 CLASSES FOR NO REASON then it’s impossible. The original PlayStation ff7 has more interesting combat. - sound design is good and the music is good. It’s just overshadowed by all the other bad parts. Voice acting when present occasionally is mostly good, while cheesy. It’s still good. Overall would not recommend this game, it has the appearance of freedom while being horribly boring and linear. I would look to pillars of eternity or divinity for a satisfactory cRPG.

    Pro:
+ TONS of difficulty options. Every game should have this
+ most amount of classes and sub-classes seen in any cRPG up to date
+ tens of hours of content
+ turn-based combat mode, would be even better if it had been designed for turn-based and ditched the terrible realtime with pause completely (it sucked in Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, it still sucks 26 years later!
+ evil playthrough viable (unlike Baldur's Gate which punishes you with no or low XP for evil choices)
    + setting (angels vs. demons)

    Con:
    - as of version 2.0.1e (Oct. 6th, 2022, one year after release) this game still contains plot-stopper bugs. I've encountered 2 on my 2 recent attempts to replay, both times essential quests will not trigger. This is unacceptable
    - ironically the pathfinding of the party is terrible: getting stuck on terrain that is different, and why is it that when my party spots a trap I have to maneuver every single party member past it with baby steps? Why can't they just avoid spotted traps on their own, if it is possible?
    - the puzzles! They SUCK and are a waste of time!
    - the crusades system feels just as tacked on as Kingmaker's kingdom management
    - crusade system turned on "automode" will lock you out of certain mythic paths (eg Lich)
    - controls are not precise (turn based mode), lacks an undo function. This is due to the game being designed for real-time with pause
    - traveling done by overhead map. Devs should have ditched the Crusade system and instead made the game world be a connected map like in Divinity Original Sin 2 or Baldur's Gate 3
    - too many random encounters
    - too many time consuming random events
    - some missions go on for too long (Gray Garrison, Drezen)
    - lackluster DLCs
    - comicy art style
    - very little of the text is actually voiced
    - a lot of annoying things, such as: skill checks that are way out of your league, level draining monster SWARMS (a good DM knows to use them sparingly!), and way way too many traps (some rooms have three or more traps).
    - many gameplay mechanics not sufficiently explained (don't have the tabletop rulebooks? Well sucks to be you!)

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous could have been the best cRPG of all times, were it not for a) the bugs and b) the cheap overhead map traveling. If Owlcat hat created a "seamless" world like in Divinity Original Sin 2 or Baldur's Gate 3. Also some of the endless missions could have been slightly shorter (looking at you, Drezen!).
It's a pity that there are so many bugs, even with the "Enhanced Edition" patch (which is a lie, since there are no real enhancements, the promised enhancements were scrapped last minute, I'm taking another point of the rating for that). A few quality of life features were added (search function in the inventory) but that does NOT justify the term "Enhanced Edition" at all. The graphics are very outdated, only a few lines are voice acted, mostly around the main quest line. Technically the game is several years behind.
So much potential for a 10 out of 10. Ends of being a 6 out of 10 due to MANY bugs and several design flaws.

Race: The game is geared towards humans only. For instance build a rogue. Humans can max out skill points at an intelligence 16. Any other race won't be able to get the 8 skill points needed for a rogue until intelligence 20. With the right feats a human can end up with 9 skill point the next time they level. Linear

The journal is useless and doesn't give you any idea of where to go. The maps are confusing as there are dead-end paths everywhere and there's no indication of where to go. you're always lost unless you're in an exploring mood. Don't forget to check everybody's loot because sometimes they have the key. I got severely lost because of that.

The crusader mode was so bad that they have an option to remove it. I found out after soft-locking myself in crusader mode.

There's corruption if you rest too much. I'm already at 3 stacks and now I can't progress further in the game because the fights are too hard. I'm on easy easy mode.

Clunky gameplay. Clunky cutscenes. There's always a time that you have to wait for any action to be performed but it often feels like im clicking into the void or i wonder if my computer just froze because nothing is really moving on screen.

I'm watching a speedrun of this game to find out where to go but I still manage to be completely lost and I have no idea which journal quest is my main quest. It's ridiculous how many times i've gotten lost in this game.

Random encounters are incredibly brutal early on (on hard at least) and you are better off reloading and rolling for stealth checks to handle them with greater invisibility or other cheese strats. I lov tabletop rpgs and i am always up for some solid mechanic system, and good narrative. Kingmaker had a sound bit of both. Storywise I couldnt stand how railroading it was, leaning big time on that kind of DMing in which there is a perfect way to do things and it is very well hidden. I mean if you want me (the player) to experience something just let me with adventure and not with mechanics based on frustration and reward. In Kingmaker the railroading was both in story and game mechanics. You could not experience a great deal of things if you didnt have high perception/persuasion and arcana and basically no class could outmatch sorcerer or kineticist. This was a stain on an otherwise very rich character creation and development system. WoTR has a lot more freedom and this allows a lot more creativity. WoTR has a perfect path (caothic good and Azata) and true ending too, but the development of the player character is a lot less based on frustration and there are many more and smoother viable ways to play. The mythic mechanic seems actually a counter to the frustration mechanic of Kingmaker, and i like it. i like also the fact that with mythic path they openly go epic and apotheosis like.

While I honestly could not stand almost all the companions in Kingmaker (all somehow tedious, except Jaethal and maybe Kailikke) i was honestly impressed how well written are the companions in WoTR and how rewarding their quests are. At the beginning i was like 'meh thats Valerie but black' or 'thats Octavia but brunette' but i was wrong. I loved Daeran above all, then Arueshalae and Sosiel (albeit his hidden ending making the difference) and i was honestly surprised by Seelah's character arc (she seemed the lamest at the beginning). Storywise, staples are all in there but they are played in a wiser and more enjoyable way than in Kingmaker. So overall WoTR makes for a good bit of fun and creativity, and this is all i ask from an RPG.

Excellent game right up until the point where you have to navigate an extensive maze. It's unskippable. It's even more unenjoyable here than it was in Kingmaker. 166 hours into it, then I quit the game. Love the character creation, though. Best in the industry.

    Danger !!!!
The combat system is disgusting. Played as a solo Persian warrior on normal difficulty. No combat animations! Just a character hitting enemies. All abilities and perks are animated by the same hit.

Difficulty fluctuates. Some locations and enemies fly through the air. Some with inflated and unbalanced stats have to win *loads* waiting for a favorable random.

The plot is uninteresting. Only act 4 was successful, it is good and interesting - about 5 hours against 50 uninteresting (approximately)

    Verdict!!!
Don't even buy the discount! And if you want, then lower the bar of waiting to the plinth.

Writing is a big improvement over Kingmaker (admittedly not a high bar), but still leaves a lot to be desired. +1 to this review roll since Linzi isn't in this game.

Exposition dumps are everywhere. Oh my god. There are way too many characters sharing their sad backstories, beliefs, and world views way too early, with no pay off for the player involvement. They don't help flash out the world, and are honestly just a waste of time.

The villain's motivations are weak, and the lore is pretty shallow despite of all the exposition dumps. We are always told quite a lot, but are rarely shown. Tieflings being the exception.

Most companions personal quests are well done. However, I found most of them to be one-note and lifeless. They nailed it with Regill, Daeran, Woljif and Lann. These guys are great and believable, too.

Voice acting performance is serviceable when it's there. It's a hit and miss. Seelah, Minagho and Galfrey are especially bad, Woljif VA oozes Charisma, Regill nails the cynical pragmatist, Lann is good, and Spider Lady is one of the best. Sometimes the intonation is so off for what they actually want to say.

While the writing certainly has its moments, the bloat of gameplay systems and unrefined ideas (Crusade mode, city management, world map movement and fatigue, corruption) really weigh it down:

    1. Narrow interiors and door passageways
    2. Multitude of AOE control spamming enemies
    3. Invisibility to hide those enemies
    4. Bad casting design that requires you to overcome both spell resistance + bloated saving throw(s) with limited resources.
    5. Bloated enemy stats. On normal difficulty, you have to use 7 separate mechanics and pre-buff everyone just to have a decent chance to hit some enemies. It's absurd.
    6. The complexity of character creation exceeds the complexity of the gameplay.

I don't think WoTR can be called hard in the sense that Dark Souls is hard. The gameplay which is very contingent on RNG even with the right build, I'd say it's more frustrating/tedious than challenging. Probably the only challenge is knowing what you're going to face and pre-buff beforehand - you need to reload for that, though. Overall, the gameplay is not very engaging or satisfying.

You can tell they worked hard on this game, but their inexperience as a developer clearly shows. The third time is the charm, Owlcat.

It's not an AAA like The witcher 3 or RDR2, it's not divinity original sin either, it's a CRPG that is very classical in it's approach like BG, PoE, Wasteland, but it never promised to be anything else. And honestly, it is a VERY good CRPG.
Edit: Now I've had a TON of bugs in the last chapters, after more than 20 patches it is the same, maybe even worse. I'm lowering my score.

Oh boy. Made an account here just to vent, I'm so disappointed after Kingmaker, which I loved. Every flaw Kingmaker had, but was tolerable is now made 10 times worse. Made it only to beginning of Act 3 before dropping out of frustration. Let's start with positives:

+There are more classes, for more minmaxing fun
+Animal companions have been expanded upon
    +♡Regill♡

And that's all good that can be said about this game. Now with the negatives:

-Writing is so bad, it's not even funny. It's infantile "(Good) Redeem the dude who just ate a baby in front of you." or "(Evil) Eat the baby." all over the place. In Kingmaker i cringed once, when First Crown was found. Here, I cringe constantly.
-Companions. So, there's a self-admitted assassin whose blurb outright states that he assassinates your fellow crusaders? No, as a lawful authority of the crusade, you can't have him arrested and interrogated, you have to hire him to find a dragon, because apparently he has the skills to do so and no one else in your army does. There's a succubus, a demon that's a master of manipulation and you can notice she's lying to you. Nope, you can't kill her, she joins you as a companion or escapes because the writers can't allow their OC Donut Steel waifu to ever get hurt. Makes me miss Darven from Kingmaker, you know the backer-written Mary Sue? At least you could have killed him.
-Difficulty. The game is simultaneouslytoo easy and too hard. In 90% of situation I am the one to get my opponents by surprise and kill them all in the first 1.5 rounds without a spell fired and in the remaining 10% they get to go first in which case half my party dies from fireball barrage. After which I reload the game and go first and win.
-Crusade mode. The battles were fun. For the first 5 times. And you'll probably fight hundreds of them across the game. An average battle can take over 30 turns of clicking on the enemy unit until it dies. Devs themselves evidently weren't confident in the system, as you can set it to auto mode. Except, you can't have good ending then.
-LOADING. Okay, I'm back in my capital. Let's go to the streets and sell all my junk. LOADING. Wait half a minute, as my character runs through the mostly empty map to the shopkeeper. Luckily, there's a bulk selling button, so instead of clicking 400 times, I have to click only 300 selling all the +1 shortbows (bulk selling doesn't sell magical items, but most of them is junk anyway). Now, wait another half a minute as my character runs to the citadel. Now, I can click the door icon... oh except the game doesn't auto select my animal companion so now I have to wait a full minute while my dog runs to the citadel entrance. LOADING. Okay, now that I'm in the citadel it's time manage the crusade. LOADING. A demon army attacked mine. LOADING. I win. LOADING. Now, I have to build something in a city. LOADING. Okay, I'm done let's get out of the city building screen... LOADING. ...crusade management screen... LOADING and I can finally rest! LOADING.

The story is incredibly unforgetable to the point I cannot remember most of it cause it was so unmemorable (and no it's not my memory - I remember good RPG:s very well and i've played pretty much every single RPG there is).
In short - invading demon army (for some reason), never heard that before.... eh, yeah that's it. Great job on the story-writing there. Also be prepared for wall of texts which doesn't really add much to the story and could be said with 10 rows of text instead of 100.

It has beautiful environments and is well made graphically, but nothing out of the ordinary good. It has some good RPG moments with humor, like the skeletal merchant. But most of the quests are very uninteresting and forgetable, yet again.

The characters are incredibly bland and uninteresting with few exceptions.

The leveling system is confusing and annoying. The combat-system as per "oldchool" baldur's gate style, is generally bad. It's not cool to make a D&D leveling system - it's just annoying. The combat, is still the same mess as in all Baldur's gate type of games. Slow, clunky and doesn't feel good.

The music and sound-design is overall very good, but a bit obnoxious at certain points. For example the combat music needs to be much more mellow in longer fights.

Turn base let you ponder every strategic decision, use whole variety of skills your characters posses. Takes much more time, but its much more fun and real DD experience. Fights are challenging and fun, just set your difficulty right :-))

Crusade management is much simplified over land management from Kingmaker and that's great news. Its bearable, but I would welcome possibility to skip this whole thing entirely.

Considering how huge game is and how many decision you make which change entirely how game evolve, didn't encounter any quest or story related bugs. My crusade management didn't level up, but luckily was able to overcome it with some changes in my saves. (without that would not be able to finish the game).

    - maps. multiple locations that inspire to try various ways of getting around, a lot of skill-based interactions with the environment
    - mythic paths. really makes you feel like you are on an epic adventure

    Neither pros nor cons:
    - the crusade system. it is kinda...there? I am not super into it, but I am not against it either, however, I enjoyed kingdom management in Kingmaker more
    - sometimes you really have to understand the system really well and I mean REALLY well, all the number and the descriptors, and such in order to succeed. but you can also always lower the difficulty, so it is ok

    Cons:
    - I haven't encountered any bugs yet, but people say that the game has a lot of them, so I am cautiously putting "bugs" here

Overall, I am really enjoying my experience with Wrath of the Righteous. Also, about a half of the negative reviews seems to be from people who 1) don't understand/like Pathfinder system and universe, and 2) faint when they are confronted with the fact that gay people exist in life and in video games

This is an amazing game. People playing a game for 180 hours and giving it a 7 is hysterical to me LOL. It's intensely deep, far too much to see in one play through (enough spells to scroll through many pages, seemingly endless weapons, armor, etc). I'll never use even a quarter of them. You command your own party through the story, AND you also command armies on a larger board to fight enemy armies. SUPER fun.

The best CRPG of the year for me. Incredibly long and story-rich, lots of choices (with actual consequences), and also gives you an ability to try yourself as a mythical demi-god hero - be a lich, or a trickster, or an angel, or a demon, etc. Also, it is a real heaven for anyone, who loves digging deep into mechanics and character building.

I don't care much about the "character build porn" its role-playing system is widely famous for (though you may create any character you can imagine here, I guess). I mostly play for the story experience. And the experience PF gives you is incredible! It starts as a cliched fantasy adventure of a no-name guy going to defeat a demon-like boss: we are the goodies, they are the baddies, let's go diablo-style on them. But soon you realize how deep it is — there are tons of moral choices, tough ones, that drastically affect how things unfold. This RPG lets you walk the full-fledged evil path yourself (and not just a single one!). The level of reactivity to your actions is impressive by today's standards, as most have forgotten how much freedom we had back in old CRPGs. And the party members are truly gems — I would easily spend another hundred hours with these characters walking a different path. PF deserves the second walkthrough, maybe when all the DLCs come out.

Truly a GREAT game and perhaps one of the greatest RPG games ever made. Many people spend 5-10 hours at least in the character creator itself, which demonstrates how much DEPTH this game has at its core. It's not easy, and you need to really think about the math involved, but if you are comfortable with D&D, this game will be a lot of fun for you.

It's really hard to describe how MUCH of everything is in this game - story, classes, skills, game mechanics (Essentially it's four games in one - CRPG, Heroes of Might and Magic battles and army movement, city builder similar to Travian and event management similar to Stellaris or other Paradox games). It can easily dwarf certain MMOs by the sheer amount of content. The game is hard, sometimes even punishing, it doesn't show you an arrow to the right place and lets you explore the world on your own, letting you make your own mistakes and wrong choices. It's a relief in a world of dumbed down modern games, that take you by hand and drag you through the 'optimized', dumbed down gameplay that even a 8-year old can go through. Not here. This game sends you back to the classics of 2000s.

A lot of people have been complaining about bugs, but I personally haven't encountered anything beyond cosmetic or minor in my playthrough. The game's a bit unpolished from the start, yeah, but it's a big step up from Kingmaker, and it's getting so rapidly patched that things get fixed before I even get to them.

However, I think a lot of the issues with the game are inherent to DND 3.5e/Pathfinder 1e as a whole. There is a reason why DND 5e reduced AC and attack bonuses -- to reduce the tedium of having to cast 100 buffs and debuffs so that your characters are actually capable of hitting npcs and vice versa. Unfortunately, Owlcat decided to be 95% faithful to DND 3.5e/Pathfinder 1e, which is why this game is such a tedious and frustrating slog.

Would not recommend at full price. If you're in the mood for a CRPG, try out Solasta: Crown of the Magister or wait for the much, much, much better Baldur's Gate 3.

The story is completely linear. How people can compare this to Baldurs Gate is beyond me. There is nothing like the open world there. There is nothing interesting here. And it is SO boring. The so-called story is unimaginative and the dialog and text is needlessly long, boring, and often irrelevant. I could stand that if it built an atmosphere but no. There is no visibility into the choices to be made which makes them seem meaningless. Obviously a lot of people like this kind of thing so to each his own. The tutorial is completely inadequate and buggy. Leveling up is is a chore because none of the UI makes sense. Spend your money on Divinity Original Sin II . Even replaying that or Baldurs Gate would be better. He'll. Play Planescape Tourment or Heroes of Might and Magic instead. I do not understand how this can be rated 85%. It sets the genre back instead of advancing it. Maybe the bar is low. I've never been so disappointed in a "game". While flawed, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a grand and ambitious adventure and an impressive adaptation of a popular tabletop RPG. The eclectic characters feel alive, though the thought of that literally being true is terrifying. In some ways, it feels like too standard a CRPG; in others, it stretches the conventions of that subgenre in fascinating directions. The amount of writing here (and pretty good writing at that) is astounding — it’s a rare case where the sheer quantity is a positive, each quest another strand in your character’s tapestry, even if they don’t always hit. As such, if you only play one game you missed out on from last year, it might be this one, as it might be all you have time for. But that decision is less appealing in the shadow of the abuse accusations.

Owlcat Games has made huge progress since Kingmaker. Time limits, randomized elements of kingdom management and other annoying aspects were ditched, while combat and character development return in all their glory assisted by very atmospheric new mythic paths and a bit simple but still cool army management system. For me, the new Pathfinder, Wasteland 3 and Divinity: Original Sin II are a trio of contemporary RPG classics, with the first one being the most faithful to the genre’s tradition. [12/2021, p.64]

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a fantasy role-playing game that is highly playable and extremely rich in content. Although there are still some obvious bugs and optimization issues in the game, it is still the brightest new star in the fantasy role-playing games.
