Overall there is probably not enough in here to make it worth upgrading if you already own the previous version. The new additions and tweaks are all very welcome and should encourage more people to enjoy what is a solid and fascinating game. That said, if you are a war fanatic, as some of us war gamers tend to be, then you will obviously lap up the new features and get a lot more value out of the game.

PC FormatA classic case of overreaching, with a few too many stats-based irons in the fire, rather generic RTS elements and hugely clunky flight simulation. [Aug 2007, p.61]
-
AceGamezIt's not a game that'll rise over the better-publicised Battlestations: Midway, but Pacific Storm: Allies is more than just a cheap copy - it's a difficult but satisfyingly fulfilling game that those who persevere may ultimately find more rewarding than the arcade action that Battlestations provides.
-
Only the hardcore WWII naval buffs will get really get a charge out of this one.
-
For those that are looking for just a little bit more of the genre, and love deep stategy games this could be right up your alley, but for the average armchair warrior this may be a bit beyond the range of your interests.
-
Pacific Storm: Allies will appeal to those who loved the original game, since it essentially offers more of the same. However, it also hasn't evolved much since then, which is disappointing since there was plenty of room for the production values to improve.
-
PC GamerToss in some dated graphics, a clunky arcade flight component, and some carryover stability issues, and Pacific Storm: Allies just barely keeps itself afloat. [June 2008, p.72]
-
A failed experiment.
