    This game is just bad... The trade system as an important revenue source and settlement building are kind of good i guess. But this whole thing can be summarized as good ideas, horrible execution. The game runs badly, it's buggy and the UI is just horrible.
    The worst thing that makes this pretty much unplayable for me is the confusing, weird, and just all around failure of a battle    This game is just bad...     The worst thing that makes this pretty much unplayable for me is the confusing, weird, and just all around failure of a battle system. Calling it "raw" and "counter-intuitive" is a serious understatement. I really can't stress enough how bad and just game breaking it is.
    Diplomacy is the same as pretty much every other game, very few options and the bots make hilariously high demands even as they're losing one city after the other.
    Calling this game challenging is just a joke. I'm not going to try any higher difficulty, or even playing it again anytime soon(or ever), but on normal and hard there isn't any challenge there.

    I'm a long time strategy gamer starting way back with the Avalon Hill board games on up to Civ 6 and the Total War series. This game works very well on several levels, both as a historical military conquest game and equally as a diplomatic/economic game or even a little of both. I had over 100 hours into Orient Empires (on medium hard settings) before earning a win.     Oriental Empires is a fantastic option for seasoned RTS fans that are looking for something new and a little different. While this might not appeal to those that are either not excited about Asian culture or those not as familiar with strategy games due to the confusing menus and somewhat unclear “hints”, this certainly has its place in an RTS fans library especially at virtually half the price of other games of a similar nature.

    Oriental Empires is an impressive debut from Shining Pixel Studios. It is apparent that a great deal of work was put into it, especially on aspects like the trade system. It manages to convey a immersive portrayal of centuries long Chinese conflict. The combat system though feels somewhat raw and counter-intuitive for a hex-based TBS, making combat more troublesome than fun on the long run.

    Oriental Empires is a very well made strategy game that allows you to get through a campaign in a few hours instead of having saves that span days, though that is an option as well if you wish. Despite its smaller scope focusing on Ancient China instead of the globe, the stakes actually feel higher due to the limited resources and high number of factions fighting for them. While some of the systems require a lot of getting used to Oriental Empires is well worth persevering with.
