I've been playing OMDU for about two and a half years. It has really developed into a fun, challenging tower defense game. You can play it solo or with up to two friends. It has a version of endless, it has challenges, achievements, and a star system. A lot of people worry about free-to-play games and I did as well - but I've found that you don't have to spend a dime to play it well. YouI've been playing OMDU for about two and a half years. A lot of people worry about free-to-play games and I did as well - but I've found that you don't have to spend a dime to play it well. You can purchase everything with the in-game acquired currency at a nice rate. I have spent money on it because I wanted the funny character skins and because I'm impatient and wanted all the heroes. :) It is NOT pay-to-win. In fact, the consumables can only be purchased with the earned in-game currency and you can earn everything other than vanity.
The game is beautiful, polished, funny, and can be very challenging if you are looking for that. They give you can gain ample traps and gear just by playing the different heroes for every map.
I think some of the negative reviews I've seen are because some people expect it to be the exact same game as OMD1 and 2. It has a lot of that feel but it is not the same game. The differences to me are that you have more choice such as tons of trait cards (plus in-game weaver options), more traps, different guardian types, many different mobs and bosses, more heroes, 3-player, and a new head to head mode. The meta is different but it has proven to be well-developed and feels comfortable for this game. I do feel it is more challenging than OMD1 and OMD2 but it also allows for great strategy building.

OMDU takes the original gameplay formula from OMD 1 and 2 and expands on it with more maps, traps and heroes. Diverse maps and heroes with different mechanics keeps things interesting.

Fantastic game. Takes the best parts of the previous games (OMD and OMD2) and mixes them together with some upgrades, like 3-person coop (that doesn't suck like OMD2's did), cooler traps, more heroes, etc.

Been a player since the early alpha. The game has transitioned from a decent MOBA that had difficulty becoming popular to its current state: A great co-op tower defense game.

This is probably one of the best examples of Free to Play done right.

A deep and content-filled expansion of the Orcs Must Die Franchise. You can sink hours into this and only scratch the surface of the content. There are 16 playable heroes. Over 25 battlegrounds. 3 game modes. There is an insane amount of stuff to do and fun to be had.

I absolutely love this game, how it brought OMD 1&2 into the world of Online gaming instead of plain solo or 2 person co-op. Now that the game is in Open beta, bug's are less and less, and the player-base is steadily growing, All kinds of matches, be it 5vAI in Siege Co-op, 5v5 PvP Standard Siege or Survival, the standard OMD 1&2 game mode we all know, defend till you win. This still includes Endless modes for those demanding it. Nothing beats the feeling going high in waves with a great setup, I know.

The fact you now have more heroes to play, several skins to get and a deeper upgrade system are all a big plus to me. Getting new heroes is not that hard, and you have a weekly 5 heroes to use.

Sure, there are still minor flaws, but I could not ask more of an Open Beta game than OMDU delivers.

As one who's been there since OMDU's beginning, if I had done this review 2 years ago, it would-of been close to 5 or 6, truth be told.

This game deserves ALOT more credit then it has gotten. Its a rly nice and unique take on the MOBA genre. With both the crafting of equipment, traps and minions to the use of it all in matches. So far I've moslty played PVP and it's faced paced and fun and addictive. I rly hope this game gets on to the e-sport scene cause it has some awesome elements that would make for a great watch. Been a while since I've had this much fun with a game. Have not put down a single penny so far on the game, but I will now, cause I want the developers to feel my love, and continue to expand this little gem of a game. Every1 that a tired of the usuall MOBAs and want something new and fresh. Should most def. give this game a shot. Expand

This is an amazing sequel to the previous games. I've played a bunch in beta and am really enjoying the new Sabotage mode. This is not a tower defense game for amateurs...you've really gotta know your stuff. Don't expect a lot of hand holding. Love the game's sense of humor.

Random drops and subsequent grinding could disappoint someone, but Orcs Must Die! Unchained is able to combine a balanced gameplay with a huge load of mechanics and it's a worthy free-to-play chapter of the Orcs Must Die franchise.

Free-to-play games often carry the stigma of being “pay-to-win” — a design philosophy that says if you want to win, buy in. Orcs Must Die! Unchained isn’t that. It’s a hoopla of co-op action that works whether or not you want to drop some dough. While the new Sabotage mode is a welcome, albeit lesser refined addition to the series, it’s in Battlegrounds that Robot Entertainment flexes its action gameplay muscles and it’s the game type that will keep me coming back for dozens more hours — or at the very least, to nab those daily login bonuses.

OMDU is an enjoyable game, with a nice combination of strategy and action gameplay with enough inherent randomness to keep the maps you've played a number of times before interesting. That being said, you should be aware that progression in the game comes in terms of access new traps, trap upgrades, and trap mods, as well as gear and perks, rather than in making your way through a campaign or a large number of levels. I found it odd and a little frustrating that trap upgrade points are awarded as random drops rather than through using the traps in the game, so it can take a while to upgrade the traps in your favorite loadouts while traps that you don't really use have reached higher upgrade levels. While there is variety in terms of enemy types at different difficulty levels and the number of heroes and traps you can use, the number of maps in the game is naturally limited. Achievement chasers will be in heaven, though, as the game features over 100 achievements to unlock.
