Love the loot and equipment system, and the of course its fighting style. Although I am already in my 40s, playing this game reminds me how fast my reaction can still be. Boss design are great, although I die a lot, but they were designed to sort of motivate you to keep progressing and learning more about them.

Giving 9 out of 10. No game is perfect. This is still one of my best game ever played.

If you like this genre, then you must play this game. Optimization is not perfect on Pc, but it still retains its greatness as a game. I dont' understand all the negative reviews, this is a 9/10 in my book.

Players with a half-decent computer and a controller will find themselves lost in a game that goes above and beyond what’s expected of the genre. The game is great, everything you would expect from a dark souls clone but even better in terms of speed and preciseness.

The only flaw the games has it's the locked fps on PC. Otherwise the game runs great without any issues. C**ts be happy we have a PS4

I just bought it from summer sale all I can say the game does worth it if you love this type of genre and love to grind mechanics. I do love the mechanics as it serves it purposes not just wasting your time and have to chip in your own money(real money). Overall it is a great and frustrating video game.

Combat system is second to none. Team Ninja took the Dark Souls stamina system and added a combo system where you can regain your stamina by switching your stances and weapons and using different move sets. So the system encourages you to learn your entire move set and how to string together combos using different weapons. You have three stances which each have several attacks, so you have exponentially more options in combat than in the soulsborne formula.
On top of the melee system (which you use "samurai points" to level), you have "ninjutsu" points (throwing weapons, traps, other tricks), and "onmyo" points (magic). There is also a "guardian spirit" system, which is kind of like a spirit animal that follows you around. As you kill enemies, your spirit gauge builds up which lets you enter into a "super" mode when full. So in addition to the samurai, ninjitsu, and onmyo options, you can build a character around having strong guardian spirit as well.
There is also a diablo-like loot mechanic, which I think is one of the few negatives of the game. It's just a bit of chore to have to clear out your inventory after every mission. But on the plus side, finding a rare weapon of a type that you haven't tried yet encourages you to keep trying new things. The system works overall, I just feel like there's a little too much loot.
BUT - once you reach the end-game and start getting divine weapons to refine your character build, the loot system turns around again and becomes very rewarding as you try to craft a perfect set for your build. It's just a sham to have to slog through it all as it just gets tiresome after awhile to have to constantly sell piles of useless items.
This can all be a bit overwhelming, but overall if you stick with the game and learn its systems it is very rewarding. The New Game + modes are also fantastic, as they change enemy placement and other subtle changes that is much more than just dialing up enemy health and damage. You are really required to start dialing in a build and thinking about your goals for what you want your character to do in order to succeed as the challenges ramp up. Much like the classic Team Ninja game Ninja Gaiden: Black, the game just gets better the deeper you go. If you have patience enough to play through the game a few times on the NG+ difficulties, the game offers a rich and rewarding combat experience that few action RPGs can match.

I’ve spent over 100 hours in this game and I loved it. The whole mission based gameplay was something very fresh for me yet so good. I really liked stances and entire fighting system as well as bosses with their well balanced weakness and hard spots. I’m going to finish it also on PS4 as well as 2nd part. Ofc I’ve played using a game pad not sure what would be the experience with k+m

A satisfying blend of beat-em-up, ARPG and Dark Souls secrets and exploration. Scratches the itch if you've been lost after the final piece of Dark Souls 3 DLC was released. Team Ninja's DNA is all over this, as the weapons and combos are very Ninja-Gaiden

Was skeptical that this was gonna be another bad dark souls clone but it is so much more than that. It's much more addictive than dark souls (2 & 3) and the combat is better imo, but there's too many filler quests and not enough enemy variety. Like other people in the reviews i have played all 3 dark souls, and I got to admit Nioh takes the sous combat system to a whole new level. Sure, story wise is basically a "b action movie" but that's not the point of the game which is btw filled with pretty accurate historical references. The point is fighting, finding your style and mastering it.

People is complaining about keyboard support.... get over it just buy a controller (a logitech F310 is just about 25 euros and is a capable, sturdy and cheap gamepad), I don't get why someone wants to play an action game of this genre with keyboard and mouse.
If I got to find a flaw in this game, I would say that is its repetitiveness. Too many pointless ng+, I would prefer a game that encourages you to create a new character more than endlessly grind for just one.

Nioh is a good game, but there are some glaring issues with it.

Let's start by saying what's good about Nioh. Combat is swift and unforgiving, it walks the line somewhere between dark souls and Bloodborne in terms of its feel. You can choose between 3 stances which have their own sets of attacks. Ranged combat is adequate too, although it's not really possible to make a build around it
Nioh is a good game, but there are some glaring issues with it.

Let's start by saying what's good about Nioh. Combat is swift and unforgiving, it walks the line somewhere between dark souls and Bloodborne in terms of its feel. You can choose between 3 stances which have their own sets of attacks. Ranged combat is adequate too, although it's not really possible to make a build around it unfortunately. In Nioh you have access to various ninja and magic techniques and spells which add a bit of flair to combat, and can improve your damage, slow enemies or blind them.

There's a mission structure to this game rather than just journeying through one large connected world like dark souls. Players can pick between sub-missions and main missions that unlock on the world map. And this is fine, I've hard some people disliking this design choice, but I think it suits Nioh.

However, almost everything else that I want to praise about the game is coupled with negatives. I WANT to say that the boss battles are good, but, a lot of them just aren't. There aren't any that I really remember or really enjoyed for that matter. Compare this to something like DS3 where I remember fighting Midir or the Nameless King with great fondness, or in Bloodborne where I fought Gehrman or Gascoigne I can't really say that for Nioh. A lot of the bosses feel bland, and worse infuriating with moves that feel a bit cheap. In short, most bosses in Nioh are just not fun to fight against unfortunately. Although there are a few which stand as exceptions to the rule.

The story and lore of Nioh, I've got to say, is just bland. I didn't find myself caring about the world or the characters in it to any degree, and I was barely bothering to pay attention to any of the story. It sounds brutal to say out loud, but I just didn't give a **** about what was going on.

Something else to note is the game's loot, it's armour and weapons. I liked acquiring them, some armour sets and swords look totally **** badass and this along with the great gameplay was basically my driving force to finish the game. However, even this comes with it's issues, the main one being is the levelling system. I don't like this system, like at all. In DS you might find a sword, and then you'd have to upgrade it as the game went on, in Nioh, weapons and armour are integrated into a level list, this doesn't sound so bad at first but it means that when I'm running through an area, i might acquire literally 5 different versions of gauntlets, and I have to trawl through my inventory comparing stats and tossing some aside just so my inventory isn't clogged to **** This isn't a massive issue, but it lead to me not really feeling attached to my gear. As I said, I still enjoyed acquiring stuff, and this isn't a big deal, but it's still something I want to say

A massive negative of Nioh is the recycling of enemies. You'll encounter the same enemies over and over and over and over and over again, I can't tell you how many times I've killed the demon with the sword or a one eyed ogre, or a generic soldier with a spear. The game doesn't even bother to add true variations, they don't even come in different colours. This also applies to the bosses believe it or not, which are recycled in the game's side missions, the 2nd boss of the game, I've fought it about 6 times now and that's probably a low estimate. It's pathetic. It really is, and it makes the game feel like a chore to play through, when all I'm doing is seemingly fighting the same handful of enemies in a generic location, which brings me to...

The generic locations. Nowhere is memorable, everywhere is bland and non-descript. I can maybe remember one area that I liked, actually no I can't. There's nothing particularly horrible about them, they're just meh. However this is very problematic for the game, because now I'm just trudging through areas I don't really care about, in a world with a story I don't care about, fighting the same roster of about 20 enemies literally every single mission.

And that's what I have to say about Nioh, there was a big craze amongst the console gamers back in 2017 about this game, and honestly, I don't get why. It's a good game, but the only really standout feature is it's combat. I played it a lot, but, perhaps it wasn't worth it. It's certainly not worth spending £40 on it. I'd wait for a sale till it went for £20-£30. Or you could always be a scumbag and buy it on G2A. Like I did, I'm sorry.

So, if you're looking for a halfway decent souls game, you could spend you're money on worse things. or better things, like the Surge 2 or Ashen. Ashen is a great game btw, it gets a lot of hate, but if you really want an amazing souls game play Ashen it's **** beautiful, Actually this just reminded me to write a review of Ashen. I love Ashen.

In Nioh you play as William an irish pirate on a quest for revenge that took him to Japan during the war of Sekihagara (1600). The setting isn't historical though because you'll fight a lot of demons that i doubt were in japan during 1600.

The port is quite good. It runs on 30 fps smooth even on my computer that has a gpu below the minimun recomendations for it. It also supports mouse and keyboard finally (you'll have to rebinds a lot of keys probably to play decently).

The gameplay is demanding thanks to the ki-pulse mechanic where you have to quickly tap a button to regain stamina and you gain more if you are precise. Playing without getting the grasps of this feature will lead to many many deaths because you'll often run out of energy leaving your enemies an opening for a finisher move that deals a ton of damage.
There are also stances for weapons where you can choose if you prefer fast strikes that deal low damage or slow strikes that deals a ton of damage or an intermediate stance for all around purpouses. But Nioh isn't by any mean a very hard game. You'll get many offensive and defensive options to deal with each encounter, such as the living weapon that is a mode in which you cannot take any damage and you deal more damage but it lasts only for a few secons and you have to kill stuff to recharge it.

The whole game is divided in missions and regions, so it isn't an open world, but you can replay every mission you already finished if you want to. You are encouraged to do that to farm for better equipment or just because you cant help anyone in missions you haven't already finished.
Bossfights are mostly good and different from one another and enemy variety is quite good although i've read many complaints about it. Yes, you'll mostly fight normal soldiers and demons but:
1)If you count different weapons that they can use there are a lot of combinations
2)there are many enemies that are more rare scattered in the various missions to fight.

The level design is also quite good.
Story missions are long with maps that often loops around themselvs with shortcuts and secrets to find. Almost every area has a unique mechanic to quickly learn to progress such as: Rolling boulders to avoid, poison to get rid of, walls to blow up with explosives and so on. That helps with the fact that are few different areas in the sub-missions and are mostly reused areas from story missions with different enemies/checkpoint placement.
Sub-mission are still good. Often short so you can easily end one in 15 minutes if you want just to play a bit and then go on.

There is a loot system in which every weapon has a random set of perks and rarity but you can reroll perks you don't like or just upgrade the level of a unique weapon if you want to.
So you aren't tied that much to rng to get good equipment since you can just reroll the perks you want or just make a new high level weapon with gold that you get during missions/selling old weapons.

Also: This game isn't like dark souls. Don't expect that.
The combat system is much more complex, the open world style is gone, there is a story told by cutscenes and dialogues and so on. The only mechanic shared with the souls saga is that when you die you lose amrita (Exp) that you can regain going back to your dead body (or using a rare item)

I've played for around 53 to complete every mission in the base game and i have yet to do all the 3 dlc and the NG+ mode.
Overall this game is great. Not too much of a challenge maybe (except some big spikes here and there) but very enjoyable. I'd recomend it.

Labelling Nioh as "another Dark Souls clone", just doesn't do it justice. The Complete Edition is a package brimming with content, challenging gameplay, deep combat mechanics, Diablo-like looting and a fun crafting system to boot. It does not stick to its peers' blueprint, but it endeavours to evolve in a different beast, and for the most part, succeeds.

If you're lucky enough to not have been plagued with port issues, then you'll find Nioh: Complete Edition to be a wonderfully difficult action game. Though it brings along a high level of difficulty that seems to be en vogue for recent action games, its emphasis on faster action makes it a perfect complement for the competition. Similarly, the loot drops are a great addition, and the oddball story makes the game feel more distinct. It would've been nice to see more PC-specific optimization, but Nioh is worth checking out for fans of difficult action games.
