Nex Machina: Death Machine

Nex Machina is an utterly fantastic arcade twin-stick shooter that doesn’t so much revolutionize the genre as get almost every aspect just right. The shooting feels great, the dash mechanic gives you plenty of flexibility in getting out of tight spots, all the secondary weapons are unique and useful in their own way, and the enemies never stop coming up with new ways to cause trouble.

Housemarque has done it again; Nex Machina is a brilliantly action-packed shooter that’s engrossing, addictive and absolutely sublime from start to finish.

Slight in form, but deep and consistently satisfying. Nex Machina is a gem of a shooter.

With Nex Machina, Housemarque managed to create a balancing act between retro and modern gaming, thanks to precise controls and impressive effects.

Housemarque's new proposal glorifies the motto "simple idea"-"great execution", so if you wish for a stunning twin-stick shooter that will turn off your mind and will sharpen your reflexes, Nex Machina should be one of your first choices. If online co-op option is added in the future, then it will be hard to find reasons for not getting it.

I really liked Nex Machina for the most part. We were given the opportunity to play it on PC and PS4, which had very little difference as far as I could tell, except that the PS4 has trouble loading some textures where destructible objects were at times. This is minor and will probably be fixed in an update. While not their strongest, this is another solid entry in Housemarque's lineage. Nex Machina holds true to their goals of enjoyable arcade shooters that sit a level above the competition.

Nex Machina hits the bull´s eye! At least for gamers who don’t expect more than shooting-fun to the core, just like in the old arcade days.

Nex Machina is the quintessential top-down arcade shooter. It may seem simplistic on paper, but on screen is nothing less than a punishing, hectic and utterly enjoyable experience that will leave you exhausted even only after an hour of play.

Nex Machina is an great twin-stick shooter that stays close to the roots it has inherited from designer Eugene Jarvis to bring a modernise, hyper speed take on this classic genre. It does not try to reinvent the wheel, and its lack of online cooperative action is a disappointment, but it offers simple, exceptional controls and has enough going on within its mechanics that it never feels shallow. With beautiful voxel visuals, challenging gameplay and piercing colours, Nex Machina is a combination of striking graphics and addictive gameplay that never stops for a break. While it might not be the best twin-stick shooter in the past few years, there is no doubt that this is still another great arcade shooter from Housemarque’s ever growing library of quality shooters.

Despite the frustrations its upgrade system often caused me, I had a good time navigating Nex Machina’s array of twin-stick shooter challenges. The appealing art, energetic soundtrack, and pixel-perfect gamepad controls made me own every failure and look forward to whatever might come next.

Nex Machina is a fast paced cyberpunk twin stick shooter, a pure experience from the past, but unfortunately it doesn't last long.

Nex Machina manages to tribute arcade games of the past such as Robotron and Smash TV without relying on nostalgia alone, offering a deep experience that doesn't require sub-systems to please players with a strong competitive attitude.

Housemarque’s most recent game is the perfect mixture between frenetic gameplay and tactical action, making it highly addictive.
