I enjoy the game even it's a bit hard. I lowered the difficulty to easy to progress and have more fun (because you need so start from the beginning if you die). I think it's a game you play some hours but then it's time to move on. Even the game is bit overpriced, i'ts definitly worth to give it a try.

The game has a lot of character and personality but the gameplay side of the game is not good. rougelike elements also feel weak. boss battles are not memorable. can not distinguish between our projectiles and projectiles that the boss has fired at us, i was not able to decide what to dodge and what not. not a good game

2d platformer binding of isaac or deadcell with arsenal of modern range weapons
visual is good for a game that tries to sell itself with great sound and music, it really lackluster on that part, music is very repetitive and quite bland, sound is passable.
the game is good, good mix of difficulty!

Definitely one of the best rogue-lites 2020 has to offer, it's a must-play for every rogue-lite fan, and it might become a great all-time hit if the developers will keep updating it.

The only thing not working in this roguelite is the gameplay. That aside, there's nothing to dislike. In fact, there's nothing else at all.

thank god gamepass exists. Now I'm able to play so many games "for free" that I wouldnt dare paying for.
not that the game is not good, but it's just one of the million "frantic, roguelite action-platformer where you run 'n' gun your way through"
There is, in fact, lots of different weapons, and enemies but I got kinda bored really fast

It does scratch the same itch as Isaac but dont think the upgrades are as balanced.

If you do get a good combo your own bullets can basically cover the whole screen in neonlights and you cant see anything. Things die fast but you have no idea whats coming towards you. Many upgrades have a negative aspect and then they interact negatively with each other until they quite literally

The game lacks balance. Some weapons & items are utter crap. The game doesn't tell you a lot of stuff about what hurts you (minigames), about your stats, it feels too much RNG. Like, how to unlock a boss. The characters are mostly crap with 1 being OP over the rest.
It can be fun, but there is too much going against it.

When playing this game I feel a little like playing the old good Team 17 titles like Assassin with a lot of modern mechanics that makes playing more enjoyable (teleports preventing wasting time, with each run you can play as different build).

This game is incredibly boring. It's very hard to find good guns, and your pets block bullets. Bombs are refined poorly, bosses are terrible. IIf you are playing roguelites, please skip this one.

    good roguelike action-platformer
gameplay is very similar to Binding of Isaac and each round starts in a randomly generated map with lots of random items which is extremely addicting.
+soundtracks and 8-bit style of the game are great for the genre.
-limited variety of monsters and bosses.
-game is so bright that u lose your eyesight after awhile!

Ah yeah, another generic pixel-art indie roguelite. It's just Enter the Gungeon in side-scrolling perspective. Yay.

This is absolutely one of my favorite games! I have not found a rouge-like game that I enjoyed before playing Neon Abyss. From the art style to the music and variety of weapons and enemies, I can't get enough!

Game was released with a lot of bugs, no testing, and day 1 DLC.

Furthermore, balancing is just wrong and broken in some places. Even before the dev team went and addressed the giant list of bugs, they were thinking of making more DLC.

This game should be in Early Access for 10 bucks. It's nothing more than a PR stunt, copy pasted Gungeon and Isaac, with more problems than good ideas.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off i have this on the Nintendo switch. Cant get a refund cause there terrible policy.
This game has a lot lot lot of issues. Ive played all the rouge likes there is, isaac, gungeon, nuclear throne, so on and so forth. So if your looking for a complete review ive got it.

OK.. so to start off the frame rate on the switch is terrible. i've take 7 hearts of damage because of the framerate chugging and skipping. out of combat its fine. many boss battles its just horrid. But Its ok in isaac cause your practically invincible before its starts chugging. and they half to load about a 1000 bullets on a tiny screen.
Visibility is a major issue. half the time i cant tell if there enemy bullets or there mine. Isaac and gungeon do this very very well. I feel like im in a chaotic mess. where the devs just put random enemies in a room to call it good. Things get so chaotic you dont ask yourself what i could have do differently. you ask yourself "How did i get hit?"

Tbh it feels like a complete rip off of isaac. But with guns and memes.
To how you progress through the floors. Bomb, key, and coins are the exact three from isaac. even the enemies are almost the exact same. You got stationary ones that shoot in all directions. Invisible ones that pop up in front of you. And items that do the exact same things.
Its honestly unbelievable. btw they messed up the key, bomb, coin drop rate. its a copy of gungeon but far far worse. Dont even get me started on the familiars in isaac. But in this game its called EGGS which is another reference to Northern Lion who has 2500 episodes of isaac. We call him Egg father. cause of his elegant shiny dome. All hail the egg. check him out and go play isaac. he'll teach you how to play and how not to play. As well as provide great comedy.

The hit boxes are a mess. Lets say you play Mario and a bullet bill comes towards you. You jump in the small hole and let it pass. But in this game if you go in the small hole it hits you anyway, EVEN if it doesn't touch your character.

The guns are a copy of gungeon with very little variation. you got heat seeking bullets, you got lazer beams that even act the same. Nothing special here.

The bosses are pretty bull and boring. some shoot nearly unavoidable attacks at you. Unless you have flying which completely takes the balance out of the game. so if you dont have flying.. good luck lol. in Isaac and gunegon flying was helpful but not essential to a victory. Actually nothing in Isaac is essential to win. thats what makes experimenting so fun in rouge likes. Is the question of what i can do differently next time or what items will combine with each other.

This game is not only a rip off. But looses all amounts of "rouge like" in its DNA. So what do you get?
You get a unfinished, unbalanced, boring, annoying game. And your $20 down. Please check out the binding of isaac. i have 600 hours in that game and i paid $40 for it. Or gungeon, or tbh any other lol. happy gaming :) And please check out NL on isaac. its worth it trust me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There’s very little to say here. The same could be said about the content. The gameplay. There are many many items to be picked up and used to your advantage, almost mirroring the binding of Isaac, that’s what’s really going for them. You have to progress to unlock more items which seem like a hassle if you’ve ALREADY BEATEN THE GAME. That’s right, there are only 5 bosses to beat in a run and that’s it. With the amount of items you get and weapons you have, you’ll blow through the game before you even unlock the second page of unlockables. Who would want to spend time trying to get more items for your runs if you’ve already beaten the game. There are difficulties that range from Easy, Medium, Hard and others you unlock latter but if you’re good at rouge likes, this barely helps and all it does is try to decrease items. That’s it. Why would you want to play this? Maybe you should only play this like a mobile game. Hop on for maybe 15 minutes or so and get off of it. Because there’s no more content other than the first hour or so. I highly recommend buying something else. Expand

I would give a higher score, If not for the endless number of bugs, freezes, crashes, and black screens. Neon Abyss won't let you finish it. Absolutely everything is trying to stop you, the especially most annoying part is black screens after level end that can ruin all your progress. As there are more than 1-3 levels, imagine how hurtful is to be kicked by a bug...

Apart from technical problems, this game is a good representation of its genre. I'm not a big fan of roguelike, but I had a big pleasure to play it (Ofc if we close our eyes on all the technical problems). Visual aspects look really good, such an amazing piece of art! Neon style + Pixel art makes its job. Neon Abyss is not about plot, but still has a little amount of good humor.
I can't suggest Neon Abyss now, because developers still should work on bugs that kill the experience.

It looks like a very nice game. Beautifully drawn, nice to play, but difficult to navigate in space with time.
Price tag is not fair. If the game is sold with a 50% discount, you can safely buy it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As of December 2021, there is a completely game breaking bug on the epic games store regarding the secret level accessed by ticket 4. the npc that lives on this level cannot be interacted with, which this is the only way to get to the next floor. this forces the player to reset. in a game where runs can be up to an hour long, this bug is inexcusable and needs to be fixed. until this happens, there is no real point in reviewing the game but i will say it plays like an inferior version of enter the gungeon. the gameplay overall is less in depth because it only has one real dimension of play (left and right). also, most of the items are reskins of the same "damage and fire rate up." comparing this to gungeon we can see the complete lack of originality in this game. in gungeon each item has a unique effect on gameplay and no two items are the same. also, there is no encyclopedia in game for checking what items do, the crystal system is an awful implementation of active items (just imagine if you had to use keys in gungeon to activate your active items) and the rng gambling has no place in a skill game like this. the only rng item in gungeon is a D-tier starter item that basically gets ditched immediately. dont buy this game, buy hades, FTL, gungeon, noita, or into the breach. Neon Abyss is a fresh roguelike with tons of contents and items to unlock, just weighed down by certain inconsistencies in its development and mechanics. But in the end a funny retro platformer/shooter.
