    I picked this up a couple of weeks ago now and have just finished playing through it. It's a great graphic adventure, with some stunningly detailed hand drawn artwork. What I didn't realise was the development team are just two people and it was initially a Kickstarter campaign. If you're a fan of Studio Ghibli and/or Point N' Click Adventures, then give NAIRI a go. It's just $9.99 on Steam.

With a simple well laid out interface and bright colourful visuals, it's definitely an easy and attractive game to get in to, almost deceptively so. Be warned, some of the puzzles later do get harder, so be prepared.

    Set in a fantasy world using cute Ghibli like visuals (which was apparently a major influence according to the developers) where animals live alongside humans, it tells the story of Nairi as she must deal with a mystery conspiracy after running from her previously rich sheltered life. With sections told in a visual novel style, it brings in the point-and-click adventure for much of it, whilst throwing in some serious old school logic puzzles along the way (which is where the warning comes in).

    Whilst I did enjoy this overall, I'll get the cons out-of-the-way first. One issue I did find was that sometimes the directions you can go in could have been a little more sign-posted. This wouldn't change the difficulty of the puzzles themselves, but sometimes I'd find myself searching around for the available directions, not realising that there were whole new areas to explore for quite some time. This could have been circumvented by putting the faint outline of the directions onscreen (like many older point-and-clicks did). Another was the difficulty curve, in that it took me by surprise the sudden sharp rise in puzzle difficulty in the latter part of the game. Maybe this is just me though. I mean, I did enjoy the difficulty and managed to get through it, it's just younger players (as it's family friendly) might be a little thrown by this. Again though, maybe this is just me...

    Anyway, as for things I did like about the game there were plenty. The previously mentioned art style was a massive draw for me and, like many others, it was one of the first factors that drew me in. Each and every frame looks like a painting, as it's evidently all carefully hand-drawn. You can definitely see the attention to detail, as it makes you feel as if you're playing through a finely illustrated picture book or graphic-novel. The characters are also well designed too, as you actually feel you come to know them over the course of the story. In regards to the narrative itself, it's fairly straightforward and simple to follow, whilst also providing an air of mystery to keep you intrigued. With the logic puzzles they're difficult enough to keep you guessing, whilst not being too taxing (I managed to complete them anyway, which I guess says something). There wasn't really any moon logic as there was with some of the older point-and-clicks, so that wasn't really an issue either. All in all, a fun and engaging game.

    Finally, although there are some darker moments, it's definitely a game everyone can play. If you enjoy puzzles and adventures you'll love this.    … Expand

    Nairi: Tower of Shirin is a witty, cute, and quirky point-and-click adventure. Silly and slightly morbid, Nairi shines with unique characters, hand-drawn artwork, and challenging but fair puzzles. It is held back slightly by some confusing navigation, a few bugs, and the inability to save your progress, but this charming little gem is a must-play for fans of the genre.
