MythForce effectively harks back to the charm of 80s nostalgia while delivering the challenges of a modern roguelite adventure. Despite its occasional narrative shortcomings and repetitiveness, its escalating challenges and the unique experience of multiplayer gameplay stand out. For those yearning for a dose of the past with the excitement of today's gaming landscape, MythForce is an adventure well worth embarking on. And trust me, once you play it, you'll catch yourself singing the game's name every time you read or say “MythForce.”

Unlike a few other nostalgia-bait projects in recent years, MythForce isn’t just a pretty face, but a well-tuned first-person fantasy brawler for people who love the grind.

MythForce is a great cooperative action experience for gamers who are nostalgic for Saturday morning cartoons and their limited fantasy universes. The overall narrative isn’t very engaging and filled with tropes. The four heroes each come complete with a unique approach to combat and their various abilities create some cool combo moments if players actually work together. The biggest issue is how quickly fun disappears when players take on a dungeon on their own. Characters gain power slowly and moving through the same spaces, battling the same enemies starts to become repetitive. Mythforce will deliver fun moments for players who have a good multiplayer group and like the presentation.

Mythforce sounds pretty good on paper, featuring a team of mythic heroes questing to take down a dark lord and his minions.

MythForce is a fun first-person roguelike game that doesn’t do anything new to make it stand apart from other titles like it, but the multiplayer mode is an entertaining experience.

MythForce looks stunning and perfectly encapsulates the look and feel of 80s action cartoons. Unfortunately, its repetitive gameplay loop, frustrating stamina mechanic, and unrewarding progression system spoil what could've been an exceptional game.

Some of the problems in MythForce could be forgiven if the core loop stayed fresh and fun, but, sadly, it doesn't. And with services like Game Pass offering up several solid roguelikes, it's tough to justify the $29.99 price tag. Yet, the core idea of an 80s cartoon homage is a lot of fun, and a couple elements of the game succeed brilliantly. A project like this could only have been birthed out of passion, so hopefully MythForce has its day in the sun. The developer has stated it plans to support the game going forward, and further content has been hinted at. But in its current state, there's just not enough to recommend MythForce, both in terms of quantity and quality.

The game has aThe nostalgia factor is built into this game with surgical precision, whether you were a fan of the old cartoons or not. The game has a beautiful "retro" feel to the graphics, but does so without sacrificing smooth gameplay or intuitive, satisfying controls. Nothing feels clunky or awkward, its fast paced enough that it never feels like there are missed inputs, but the pace is controlled to deliver a satisfying experience. The visuals blend "cartoon" castles and weapons with lovely scenic vistas that just feel amazing. Every little part of the game tangibly and noticeably adds depth and immersion, from the voice acting/sound design, to the map generation, to the difficulty scaling, to the character models. I thoroughly enjoyed playing in a group with friends, it was delightfully chaotic while still cohesive, and the single player still allows every class to be fun on its own, and feel rewarding and powerful. Really looking forward to what comes next for this game, the initial foundation is outstanding. Expand

Really makes me feel like I'm playing a first person Gauntlet Legends.
Mob variety is great and I'm sure we'll see even more of it as they add new areas to the game.
The talent they brought in for the voice overs feels AAA (Beastor is an absolute hunk).
    Graphics are nice and punchy.
The effects currently in game look fantastic (the fire animations are my favorite)
10/10 Can't wait for more of my friends to pick this up so I can steal potions from them too :))

This game is like a straight injection of 80's Saturday morning cartoon joy right into my veins. Please, please, please make this into a show and keep the content coming! Rogue-lite mechanics are on point, the difficultly feels like it's right where it needs to be. Combine that with the amazing sound track and voice-overs you've got a very solid game especially since this is from the veterans behind the Baulder's Gate series. Expand

Since I now have 50h in this game, I thought I'd share my thoughts on it.

    - setting is great
    - graphics are fitting and atmospheric
    - music is cool
    - heroes are cool yet stereotype 9000, but thats part of the 80s aesthetics so thats okay

    but

    - its THE GRIND
    - weapons are extremely weak
    - you dont feel like a hero, you feel like a joke
    - skeletons have an 8 meter range with greatswords
    - 3 enemy lizard men make a special rythm of jumping and cutting that forces you to block all the time. there is no time frame which you could use to strike back. So you get beaten up real good and die in 30 seconds, no matter what level you are, what your skills are on whatever. You are done.

    - loot? haha. sometimes a mage will find a sword and the knight finds some spellbook. thats about it. this is the lowest loot-game ever
    - there is absolute zero feel of progression or growing stronger. Even on lvl 10 you will die on the first floor with a spore tank. They glue you to the ground and it takes a minute to get up. Guess what, the tank needs a bit less time to take another swing at you. You are done, again, because you cant do anything.

I have played more than 50 rounds and made it to the beast lord ONCE. He couldnt kill me, basically, because evading was very easy. But I couldnt kill him either, because the weapons really make no damage. So there we were, circling each other with no purpose.

And that sums up a game with GREAT potential: It feels absolutely dumb. No damage, sometimes the first floor is a done in 5 minutes, sometimes it takes half an hour. So its not like the floors get harder as you proceed. All floors can be absolutely deadly. 4 walking mushroom magicians at once? Happens in the 3rd floor, happens in the 1st floor too. No health, nowhere. You are done, again.

So, procedurally generated games dont really work. They seem a great idea, they look great - and are zero fun to play. I am glad I only paid 10 quid for this trash, its worth about 5.
