MythForce is a great cooperative action experience for gamers who are nostalgic for Saturday morning cartoons and their limited fantasy universes. The overall narrative isn’t very engaging and filled with tropes. The four heroes each come complete with a unique approach to combat and their various abilities create some cool combo moments if players actually work together. The biggest issue is how quickly fun disappears when players take on a dungeon on their own. Characters gain power slowly and moving through the same spaces, battling the same enemies starts to become repetitive. Mythforce will deliver fun moments for players who have a good multiplayer group and like the presentation.

Unlike a few other nostalgia-bait projects in recent years, MythForce isn’t just a pretty face, but a well-tuned first-person fantasy brawler for people who love the grind.

MythForce effectively harks back to the charm of 80s nostalgia while delivering the challenges of a modern roguelite adventure. Despite its occasional narrative shortcomings and repetitiveness, its escalating challenges and the unique experience of multiplayer gameplay stand out. For those yearning for a dose of the past with the excitement of today's gaming landscape, MythForce is an adventure well worth embarking on. And trust me, once you play it, you'll catch yourself singing the game's name every time you read or say “MythForce.”

MythForce is an entertaining action and role-playing roguelite, which stands out for its 80's cartoon aesthetics and for being very oriented to 4 player coop. It has many "evils" of the subgenre (random level generation, repetition...), but if you're going to play it with friends, you'll have a great time. In solitaire, maybe not so much.

Mythforce sounds pretty good on paper, featuring a team of mythic heroes questing to take down a dark lord and his minions.

MythForce is a fun first-person roguelike game that doesn’t do anything new to make it stand apart from other titles like it, but the multiplayer mode is an entertaining experience.

MythForce looks stunning and perfectly encapsulates the look and feel of 80s action cartoons. Unfortunately, its repetitive gameplay loop, frustrating stamina mechanic, and unrewarding progression system spoil what could've been an exceptional game.

Some of the problems in MythForce could be forgiven if the core loop stayed fresh and fun, but, sadly, it doesn't. And with services like Game Pass offering up several solid roguelikes, it's tough to justify the $29.99 price tag. Yet, the core idea of an 80s cartoon homage is a lot of fun, and a couple elements of the game succeed brilliantly. A project like this could only have been birthed out of passion, so hopefully MythForce has its day in the sun. The developer has stated it plans to support the game going forward, and further content has been hinted at. But in its current state, there's just not enough to recommend MythForce, both in terms of quantity and quality.

This is a definite improvement on what Mythforce was at launch, and offers a great slice of first-person action. [1.2 update score = 70]
  2. All in all, I haven't been blown away by Mythforce. I was expecting something a little funnier and self-deprecatingly daft. But it isn't a badly crafted boney boy basher. A single solo run often left me murderizing for a happily thoughtless 30-45 minutes. That's likely to be shorter if you play with the friends I don't have, and embrace the hectic "kill stuff, get buff" attitude that comes from any reliable multiplayer game that is secretly just an excuse to chat. In this sense, Mythforce is less "Saturday morning cartoon" and more "Sunday evening co-op". It might not have the staying power or variety of others in the genre, but if greedy goblins and low stakes are enough to goad you into a weekend or two of battering baddies with buds, then go for it. I believe in you!

This game is like a straight injection of 80's Saturday morning cartoon joy right into my veins. Please, please, please make this into a show and keep the content coming! Rogue-lite mechanics are on point, the difficultly feels like it's right where it needs to be. Combine that with the amazing sound track and voice-overs you've got a very solid game especially since this is from the veterans behind the Baulder's Gate series. Full Review »

The game has a beautiful "retro" feel to the graphics, but does so without sacrificing smooth gameplay or intuitive, satisfying controls. Nothing feels clunky or awkward, its fast paced enough that it never feels like there are missed inputs, but the pace is controlled to deliver a satisfying experience. The visuals blend "cartoon" castles and weapons with lovely scenic vistas that just feel amazing. Every little part of the game tangibly and noticeably adds depth and immersion, from the voice acting/sound design, to the map generation, to the difficulty scaling, to the character models. I thoroughly enjoyed playing in a group with friends, it was delightfully chaotic while still cohesive, and the single player still allows every class to be fun on its own, and feel rewarding and powerful. Really looking forward to what comes next for this game, the initial foundation is outstanding. Full Review »
