Mouse: P.I. for Hire had a strong premise back when it was just a viral tech demo, yet it far exceeded our expectations by the time we got our hands on it. It's your average boomer-shooter with almost the exact same arsenal as Doom, except its level design is as charming and imaginative as its bosses, the performance is superb and there's just so much genuine well-doing in every little nod an piece of animation. If you're a hardcore quick-swapping speedrunner you might find it a bit 'meh' but other than that you will love it like it's a friend. [Recommended]

A few late-game difficulty spikes, some heavy-handed story elements, and a few lackluster weapons hold back Mouse: PI For Hire a bit, but it’s still an incredibly creative, inventive, unique, and action-packed FPS that mixes classic cartoon animation, noir cliches, and satisfying gunplay into something that is unlike any shooter I’ve played before.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire isn't flawless, and it certainly isn't going to test your mettle as a challenging shooter (which, consequently, means it's much more approachable for non-FPS players), but it's worth playing for the vibes alone, even if the combat feels a little one-dimensional at times. From the fantastically groovy audio design in the jazzy soundtrack, sound effects, and voice acting across its diverse, larger-than-life characters, to the visually stunning rubber hose animation and hand-drawn levels, Fumi Games has outperformed all expectations. Everyone should play Mouse: P.I. For Hire, because it absolutely deserves to mouse its way into the awards rat race come the end of the year.
