Aug 19, 2020I found out about this game a few months ago and joined the community instantly, it has been an amazing experience watching this game grow to what it is now. The combat hooked me when i saw it, a sword with actual weight to it . The voice acting paired with the atmosphere of the game is truly and experience

Dec 28, 2020The game is interesting and captivating at first, then becomes repetitive, boring and the enemies are easily dispatched using the strongest weapon with a cheesy combo. The last area is repetitive, hard as hell and the enemies there are copypasted and the levels are extremely boring and unimaginative. What a letdown.

May 10, 2022Mortal Shell really, truly, irredeemably sucks. If you like Dark Souls (or Elden Ring), it sucks. If you hate Dark Souls (or Elden Ring), it still sucks.
-
Jun 20, 2022To the people who love the Souls games, it's not worthy to play Mortal Shell.
The game trys, but cannot achieve any fun at all.
I've played about a hour of it and my only solace is that I've taked it for free on Game Pass. -

Aug 20, 2020Crooked hitboxes, ill-conceived combat system, overly confusing locations, disgusting colors and much more

Aug 31, 2020A good souls-like with a bunch of cool mechanics is ruined by a plethora of "cheap" damage set-pieces and slow combat.

Sep 11, 2020By far the best dark souls clone. Not a full price game, so the shortness is no issue.

Aug 20, 2020If you're an actual souls fan and not just a follower this is a fantastic addition
-
Aug 19, 2020The game provides entertainment and its quite good for the small team that developed it. I had a lot of fun playing it.
-
Aug 19, 2020Great game from a small team and it's not easy to do a Soul game, and they did. and add their own spin into it
-
Aug 19, 2020Probably the best souls like game I've played. A lot of work has been done for such a small company. It was fun to play, it was difficult to play. The game is worth paying attention to. I recommend it!
-
Aug 24, 2020Overhyped garbage, like all the other Souls-like games that isn't made by From Software or Team Ninja. So many bad design choices in Mortal Shell, clunky and low budget movement and animations, soulless combat, just a waste of time. Wait for Elden Ring, or go replay Souls games by From Software or Nioh/Nioh 2 by Team Ninja.

Aug 27, 2020Positives - challenging combat initially but rewarding when you master it
- atmosphere is unique, the synth background sounds are interesting
- 0 exposition
- the item lore mechanic is very cool
Negatives
- 10-12 hour game - no soundtrack
- the assassin shell is OP/cheese
- fighting the same boss 4 times is kinda lame -

Oct 6, 2021Clunky, uninspired and boring game. Does not even deserve to be compared to Dark Souls. Not worth the £15 I spent on it.
Very unimpressed. -

Aug 20, 2020Just a generic game with nice graphics, combnat system is horriblet, enemies have AIM and change direction even when jumping, and ridiculous.
-
Aug 24, 2020This game made me feel just like dark souls 1 and blood borne in my first run. Now waiting for more content I hope

Aug 19, 2020Satisfying combat scratches the souls borne itch with no grinding whatsoever. Bosses are straightforward yet challenging. I’m still wondering why there is no music but it took me a while to notice when I was binging this awesome game.
-
Aug 26, 2020Unplayable because of buggy and amateurish keybinding options.
If I change the "move left key", the key I chose gets instead bound to "move right". So there's no way in game to move left.
This is shameful. Learn to program a simple keybinding option. -
Aug 19, 2020Extremely clunky movement and a delay in every single thing you do. Attacking queues the next attack absurdly long so you'll end up attacking when you'd rather want to dodge.
Could be a great game for its price if the developers spent another six months polishing gameplay. -
Aug 22, 2020I actually prefer this over Dark Souls. Hope the developers get enough money to develop higher budget games.
-
Aug 20, 2020A small team of 15 people created this game, they deserve all our support and respect. thanks guys I'll be waiting for your next game
-
Aug 21, 2020this is the best souls like game i have ever played, i could not stop playing it. definitely my favorite game for 2020. seems like this game only gets some negative reviews for being too difficult. well news flash, you shouldn't play this kind of game if you're not up for a challenge.
-
Aug 23, 2020+Cool atmospheric level design
+Funny gameplay where everyone'll find his own playstyle (shell and weapon)
+Perfect voice acting
+Dark souls vibes
+Great new mechanics (I love hardening)
-90% game without soundtrack. I was listening to DS soundtrack almost whole time because of this.
-The game is pretty short. About 10-12 hours and 7 bosses. -

Aug 20, 2020It's a proof of concept game that does quite well for what it is, especially considering this started off about three years ago as two guys throwing around ideas. The team got slightly bigger and here we are. Left me wanting more, so here's hoping for a sequel.
-
Aug 20, 2020A wonderful experience, with dense atmosphere, weighty and impactful combat, very abstract storytelling and great sound design. I hope there will be plenty of AddOns and ultimately another installment to this franchise.
I paid about 30 Euros, and I don't regret spending any one cent of those. -
Oct 28, 2020They obviously have good PR friends, they get a: 10.
Actual game rating: 2. -
Sep 5, 2020Strong graphics and a solid game loop. However, the light jank and poor enemy placements makes it hard to get immersed. Overall game experience is a lacklustre Dark Souls.
-

-
Aug 22, 2020It's the best Dark Souls feeling a clone ever presents. Yes there is unused potential, but for that price, every Soulsborne Fan can buy without a doubt. I hope for more content. More weapons, more classes and unique active abilities of the classes.
-
Jul 7, 2021basicially a pretty bad copy of dark souls. no heal, no save, no teleportation. just keep walking and kill same monsters a few billion times.oh, if you wanna go somewhere ? why you dont search for 15-20 hours. because it makes game hard isnt it.

Aug 21, 2020+++++ A cheap have to try souls like game. A mix between Sekiro and Dark Souls.Recommended.
-
Nov 23, 2021The combat system if this game is a joke, totally not playable. It just a bad copy of dark souls

Aug 20, 2020Various bugs are too severe, and the game is boring.
There is no story.
There is no music. -
Nov 10, 2020"What if Dark Souls really, really sucked?" seems to be the question that spawned this game. That's really all there is to it. Poor combat, movement, progression, level design, character design . . . I'll be honest, there is nothing at all to like about this game. It's a steaming pile of something worse than disappointment.

Aug 20, 2020This game is great, finally something new with that souls twist to it. Right off the bat you'll feel at home with the mechanics.
I recommend this to any and all souls players. -

-
Aug 19, 2020Once you learn how to use the hardening mechanic, the game stops being frustrating and becomes the best Souls-lite experience yet made. The only negative is the map design, it's way too complex and it's too easy to get lost.

Sep 8, 2020Mortal Shells copies every single thing about Dark Souls except the parts that worked. Genuinely, this game is "Dark Souls but the locations and combat feel like a day 1 early access game." Poor exploration and poorer combat damn Mortal Shell as yet another Epic failure.

Nov 15, 2020Someone in Dreams could make this and is the worst souls-like I've ever seen. Lords of the Fallen is actually better by quite a big bit. I'm not even exaggerating that the areas are vast and duplicated to the point of blandness and boredom and everywhere you go looks the same with 1-3 of the same enemies. Movement is the worst I've ever seen in a game, graphics are PS3. Please just play Nioh

Oct 14, 2020I loved this game. For me, it fits in right up there with Dark Souls and The Surge. The combat was spot on and enjoyable, just the right combination of surmountable challenge. I hope there's a Mortal Shell 2 with a longer run time and more customization.
Date Completed: 2020-10-14
Playtime: ~ 17h
Enjoyment: 9/10
Recommendation: Absolutely. -

Aug 23, 2020very nice game for you like soulsborne.
souls oyunlarını sevenler için çok güzel oyun lan alın oynayın vuruş hissi falan harika -
Aug 20, 2020Excelente jogo. O levem design está bem desafiador e você é sempre estimulado a ser cauteloso para não morrer. Um jogo tenso do início ao fim.

Aug 19, 2020Quite simply the closest thing you'll find to Dark Souls that FromSoft didn't make. So many subtleties and hidden mechanics. The haters need to GIT GUD!
-
Aug 19, 2020Forget the small team. Just for a game, it looks amazing, it plays great, it kicks your ass and leaves you begging for another. The combat feels so good thanks to the game's great sound. I'm convinced anyone leaving less than an 8 on this game is just playing the wrong game and should go back to playing MMOs and Fortnite.
-
Aug 20, 2020Gran joc, el tinc a xbox one x, gràficament bé, li dono un 9. Te l'estructura clàssica dels souls, amb uns dolents imperials, estic content.
-
Aug 20, 2020Tough to start but once you get the hang of everything you really start to see it shine, in it's weird, dark, mysterious way

Jan 8, 2021Mortal Shell is an enjoyable title for those who are already fans of the SoulsBorne sub-genre, and it has more positives than it has flaws. The swamp hub world is bland and confusing, but the different biomes you eventually reach are gorgeous, even if they're relatively familiar. The lack of a deep leveling system has a very good replacement in the shell system, which ends up providing more versatility in your character build and the attack system. The relatively shorter length makes it great for newcomers, while genre veterans will find it to be a great debut effort from a small development team.
-
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Oct 7, 2020If Dark Souls wasn’t sufficiently dark and difficult, this is just the thing for you. Taking the souls-like genre a step further, Mortal Shell provides a satisfying combat system enveloped in a creatively unique narrative. Well worth the suffering. [Issue#305]

Sep 18, 2020Mortal Shell may be a modest product, but it surprised at nearly every turn with regularity. The lack of variety in the environments, weapons, and classes are more than made up by never overstaying its welcome. Whenever it feels as though its about to become stale, players will stumble across something new to try out. The lack of depth isn’t too much of a detriment as the game is short enough to ever feel tired. Better yet, what is there is good, a foundation with easy room to be expanded upon and a strong demonstration of Cold Symmetry’s understanding of core concepts that are the strength of the genre. Mortal Shell is a exemplary use of limited resources to make a tight, fun game, even if it only takes a weekend to beat.
