Graphically it's not terrible. However, it's definitely NOT pretty enough to justify the lag.

This is a game is not going to last because the vast majority of the MMORPG community would prefer to have a PVE area for leveling, and then a persistent PVP area See Dark Ages of Camelot for a game that was set up well (had balance issues, but the framework was right)

Not an MMORPG. Sorry, it's not. It's an MMOFPS with a very few RPG elements, most of which you'll not get to experience too much due to the PVP, player killing, and griefing.

It's FIRST person ONLY. MMORPG's are generally THIRD person, with a first person option. Why even bother to have character customization a STAPLE of MMORPG's when you never even get to see your character?

MASSIVE time consuming download and install. 8+ hours to get this thing up and running on my cable provider's max broadband speed package.

Flawed all the way around not even worth a download as F2P recommend avoiding.

For the amount of time I but into this game I feel as though I did nothing but grind for my guild and watch other get away with exploiting game mechanics. There is no story in this game, so you are pretty much forced to make your own, and I would call that the highlight of this game, being able to do what you want when you want is nice but that "nice" feeling quickly dies when you fall threw the map time after time. Oh, and I almost most the GMs in the game are also players of the game, so corruption and favoritism is very prevalent and noticeable. I find it funny when you tell a GM that think someone might be using a hack, and the character using the hack laughs in your face, says he is using a hack, and that there is nothing you can about it. If you dont beleive any of what i say, try the 14 day trial and see for yourself. Here's the game for summed up for you: Naked morons running around with their junk flapping about in the breeze killing, raping, conning, and pillaging anyone they can. It's basically Lord of the Flies online. Poorly moderated, overpriced, severely lacking content, and full of whiny PvPers that somehow think that because they can fight in a video game that in reality they could also easily take on the likes of Chuck Norris and Jet Lee. It's a sandbox with very little sand. WORST PART IS the combat; it's always lagged; you can be standing right against a mob hacking away at it an none of your attacks land; you back off 30 feet away and somehow the mob is still hitting you. This makes decent online combat impossible.

MORTAL ONLINE = WORST MMO EVER You'd be better off gelding yourself without anasthetic and a broken filth covered plastic spoon covered in ebola than playing this joke of an MMO. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS GARBAGE.

I have come here to warn any potential players of this game. The Mod team is ridiculously corrupt. The game runs terribly. They are currently being Ddos'd because of their corruption and although some see the up and coming expansion as a light at the end of a dark tunnel I can tell you it's just to make back some of their cash before the company completely falls in on it's self.

Like I said, after playing for two years and paying hundreds of dollars into this game for multiple accounts I was banned. No reason was given, the ban said it was for seventy two hours but after weeks of waiting and being ignored by their Lead Game Mod Discord I gave up on even trying to communicate with them about why I was banned and if it would be lifted at any point.

Please, for the love of all that is nerdy and game worthy...DO NOT HELP THIS COMPANY.

I am not the only one affected by their staff corruption. You can find it all over the place. The game is very unique and interesting. I would of most likely played it until the company went bankrupt, but with this ban I feel as though I was betrayed by some one I cared deeply for. Their staff is the least professional group of egotistical ass hats I have ever encountered in a game world and because of them a great idea will burn and never see fruition.

Mod corruption, no balance, floating textures, non-existent progress in development or ingame play, everyone subscribes after a patch and then unsubscribes a week later. Avoid like the plague. They are preparing the starter town for steam to fool enough players into subbing before realizing how empty the game is. They have no intention of ever "finishing" or "polishing" this game. Avoid.

Full loot open pvp but mages cost next to nothing to gear whereas high-end warriors can cost 100s of gold. Then those 1 gold mages can instapop you even in the best gear as long as there are 4 mages to hit you with a thunderlash all at once.

I lead a large guild that is mostly disliked but we only do evil **** the way we do it because it is impossible to play this game legit without going insane. If you don't learn how to dupe gold and materials early on, you will have a nightmare of a time playing. Spend 3 months making a couple stacks of materials for high end gear and you can lose it all in a day or two. That's why you dupe.

One buggy mess. Continuous alpha state since launch, promised features left out. Maybe 20 players online at a time. No one leaves the guard zones. Prepare to get stuck on just about everything, try to use the unstuck command that they made only work once every ten minutes, and then you have to wait a half an hour for a GM to unstick you, hoping he doesn't kill you. Play Darkfall instead.

Sort magic out? Yeah, we'll sort it out AFTER the Territory Control patch. Guess what, they were talking about TC in 2012, it is now 2014 and they STILL HAVEN'T RELEASED IT. So they might release TC patch within the next two years, but how long will the game be broken after that? It would take them atleast a year to fix all of the issues they will create with the TC patch, so an estimate of when the new magic system will come out is roughly 4-5 years.

Also, they have a "private" testing team which consists of their favorite Mortal players, which is why the balance is always skewed, because they are catering to their favorites aka their "test" team. They then release a buggy patch that makes many people quit for a month or two until the problem is seemingly resolved.

Mortal is full of players who WANT to like it. That is why they quit and come back, not because this game is GOOD, but because it COULD HAVE been good. Darkfall completely revamped their game, and they have continuous updates now. Adventurine and StarVault have now switched sides, Adventurine is constantly updating and you hear nothing from StarVault. It used to be the other way around. The sad fact is that Mortal's combat system is so much better than Darkfalls, unless you prefer cartoony WoW-like nonsense like in DF.

Avoid this game for another 4-5 years, if it is still operational. Maybe by then they will have the territory control patch ingame, all the bugs ironed out, the new magic system with all bugs ironed out. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

The environmental effects are simply stunning, and the trees, sunlight effects, shadows, are second to none. Now, that that's out of the way. The game truly is intimidating, clunky and non-intuitive. After reading reviews around the web saying the same things over and over (broken game, paid alpha, etc), I decided to give it a try myself. And what I've discovered is that it's simply not easy. I think 90% of the reviews I read are, while earnest, are missing the point. If you are a casual or quick gamer, don't have alot of time to put into something and used to the arcade style games of current FPS or MMOs (or are under the age of let's say, 25ish), this game is DEFINITELY NOT for you, DO NOT EVEN TRY IT, and WALK AWAY NOW. That will save you time and trouble, frustration, and ultimately visits to forums spouting about how bad this game is. It's not bad, it's different. Yes, there are plenty of things that could be done better. The UI is pretty tough to navigate, buying and selling is difficult, there's almost nothing in the way of tutorials (but they do get the basics out of the way, there are help menus and trainer NPCs that have all the information you need to get you going). But anything more complicated than "how do I use my sword" or "how do I put things in a hotbar" are left unanswered. Crafting or recipe question? Visit the forums or ask in the help channel. Don't know where a certain vendor is? Get ready to spend a while looking for him! But to me, all this is simply amazing. It's VERY nostalgic for me, and reminiscent of very early internet gaming/mmos, while having the beefy environmental graphics/texturing that makes me not play the early ones anymore. I feel like my first time strapping into the original everquest after release, and being awestruck by what I see. "Let's see what's up this mountain....OMG, what's a 'Belbus'?" Followed by a hastily executed retreat as it eats my face. I feel like I'm viewing life through the eyes of a child in this game, and it's wonderful. It almost feels like I'm playing a form of art. So if you do NOT have patience to figure things out on your own without being told, again, it's not for you. I would write more, but I'm getting ready for work. The game has a new expansion called "Awakening" coming out soon (releasing as a free game update), that negates all of the cons I've spoken of so far as it is addressing many of these issues, from a wholly new and redone UI to advanced AI responses in npc creatures and characters.

One major complaint that I have heard is "griefers gank new players repeatedly, making them quit the game". I experienced this myself. But I didn't quit, I simply rounded up other players killed by this guy and took him out, then we were invited to a guild, and given weapons and armor to defend ourselves. The guy killing us, had none. He eventually left us alone. The game tries to force you to make tough decisions about social relationships. And I love it!

My only real negative, and the reason I really could not feel right giving this game a "10", is that the in game GMs in the help channel and the companies/dev's presence on the forums is a bit lacking. The community on the forums is still strong, but the developers seem to stay silent on everything except when they have an update or announcement, rather than answering individual players' questions. This is something I hope to see changed in the future, though I understand the development team stands somewhere around seven people. The in game help channel, the actual "helpers" seem to lack any real "helpfulness", but there are PLENTY of players in the same channel willing to answer any questions you have, making up for it.

In the end, it's up to you. but know what you're getting into before you play this game. It's tough. It can be lonely, frustrating and clunky at times, but YOU control what you become, who you interact with, and everything that goes on around you. I give this game a 9.

    Signed,
A truely brand new MO player.

First of all the idea of this game is awesome, it got me hooked from the beginning, I don't mind the lack of tutorials, but honestly everyone is forced into reading tons of forum posts, guides and continuously asking for help in chat. I'm seeing the same basic questions addressed over and over again, they really need to get starter pointers in game if they don't want to lose any more newbies. Not to mention character creation was probably thought while one of the 5 devs took a dump. Trust me, in order to get your character right, you will reroll (meaning delete and recreate it) at least 3-5 times.

Second I'll talk about the world and it's one big problem: it's empty. You run 10 minutes and find 6 pigs, walk another 15 and find 3 bears. It looks beautiful and it's meant to be explored, but there's no reward for explorers in this game. One might wander about 1 hour collecting some herbs and hunting prey, but there's no use for that other than one's own satisfaction.

I won't talk much about bugs because I would spend my word limit on this subject. Consider this to be the most bugged out, glitched and laggy fps you would ever play. Targets snap around you, npc's dissapear, you are attacked by invisible beasts, not to mention falling through the ground and walking though obstacles. THIS GAME IS A BUGFEST, REMEBER THAT BEFORE YOU INSTALL IT.

Open world pvp. This is a problem for new players because they are constantly ganked anywhere possible. I would suggest they take the approach of making a "safe" server or at least try to implement EVE Online's solution to open world pvp. It is frustrating, but a few days into the game you will learn when to fight and when to run or hide, who to attack and where, what to loot and what not to.

The problem with MO besides the bugs glitches and difficulty of use it's that it only offers rewards for hardcore pvpers. You can't just hope to make a butcher/tamer/archer and be awarded or have fun. It all resumes to killing other people anywhere and mostly for the simple stupid reason that he doesn't kill you first.

I need to add that in my opinion this game is roughly in beta stage and Star Vault are charging way too much for such an unpolished piece of software, and most of the people who play are doing it so they can keep the development going on. Which leads me to the community and I have to admit despite the stupid priest gankers, resource campers and newb-killers, the rest of the community is very friendly and helpful, but that is mainly because they couldn't survive either way.

In conclusion I find Mortal Online to be the best candidate for a sandbox mmofps, it has a lot to offer, but until the devs either hire a decent team and/or rethink most of the game's basics like the UI, targeting, collision detection, etc I see no real future besides a small base of a few thousand griefers and gankers.

There is an expansion called Awakening announced for april 2012 that is said to remodel the game in most of it's aspects, but I will stay reluctant and see if time will tell how this game evolves. As someone else put it, Star Vault is a small company with a big dream, but let's hope all they are left with is something more than just a dream!
