Bad performance but visuals that are clearly meant to stand the test of time. It's like they made a game in 2025 and released it 5 years early. Because it looks like it's from the future but also feels like it's meant to run on a PC from the future.

The simulation is not the best but what default aircraft for simulators are ever great? It's a big step up from FSX and Prepared anyway.

And there in lies the proble. You see simulators have, for many many years now, always relied on thirdparty add-on content to make the simulator actually good. And this is no exception. And you know what, i'm sick of that. This industry is so set in it's ways it's shooting itself in the foot because of it. This game costs 70 bucks MINIMUM, 120 maximum. At that price you simply can not say "well just wait for the add-ons to come out to make it worthwhile". Nah i'm not gonna do that. Time these developers learn that you need to ship a product that is worthy of it's price tag, and if you can not do that maybe it's time to go free to play like DCS did.

I also don't even want to know what will happen once all these live service deals microsoft has going on for it's AI and weather and traffic and all that, run out.

So in short... if you want to just **** around for a bit, sure. Get the base version. If you want serious simulation either stick with the old sims or wait for this one to get the hundreds of dollars worth of add-on content it needs. And stay away from the deluxe and premium version at all cost. They are a ripoff.

First of all, keep in mind that if you buy this game via Steam, you won't be able to refund it, because Steam downloads a 500Mb launcher and then the latter downloads the whole game (at the moment over 110Gb), which means unless you can download the whole thing in under 2 hours, by the time you're done, the product will no longer be eligible for a refund.

I like the game and I'm enjoying it but there are few problems here and there.
It took ages to download because the launcher is buggy and can get stuck and reset.
The loading screen is way too slow even while using a SSD.
The UI is broken and while in menu shortcuts for keyboard and joypad don't work, you have to use the mouse.
    Tutorial is really really short.
    Airplane selection isn't that big.
Base price is 70 euro...it's almost a 20% price increase from the usual 60 euro for no reason.
If you want more airplanes or better graphics (airports) you have to pay even more, like 30 euro more for a few planes? How can few planes costs almost half of the base game?
Unless you allow the game to constantly download data, the graphics won't look really good and even then certain areas look fine while others are still very very ugly.

So far it's a pretty buggy mess. Some things do not work, sometimes the game crashes, sometimes it crashes when the controller is disconnected... we'll just have to wait for Asobo to patch the game a few times and then give it another go. It has huge potential and the flight itself is marvelous.

The game introduces amazing features such as satellite data that maps out every building and gives accurate weather settings which truly is a breakthrough for simulation games, and since this technology is new if you get close to any of the actual buildings you realise that they look nothing like they do with real life, however, Microsoft Flight Sim devs have said they have plans to fully model buildings in certain areas. This is really good news but that isn't the biggest problem as playing the game on an RTX 2080 ti the game struggles to get 20 fps in dense areas on low end settings, and from what i have seen i am not the only one who experiences this issue. The game is £60 on steam which is pretty steep and could make you particularly disappointed to finally finish downloading this game and trying it out just to realise it was pointless as it barely runs. Luckily, this game is out on the xbox game pass so you can try it out for £1 for the first month so you can see if the game is for you. Expand

I will critique this as a game - not a flight simulator. Overall this game has a lot of promise - and will undoubtedly become a GameAsAService - with already landmarks being able to be purchased. Overall this game has a lot of promise - and will undoubtedly become a GameAsAService - with already landmarks being able to be purchased. The thing that I think it lacks is a drop in mode - where you set up exactly where/how you want to start. And I would suggest a sight-seeing mode that allows you to just 'fly the camera' around - and they really need to be able to pin more landmarks from their Bing Map dataset. It is clearly aimed at both the flight sim and more casual users (hence the heavy streaming) but I don't think there's enough content to keep casual gamers interested. Also - for a game that focuses so much attention to "the world" then you have to accept that people will expect a basic level of realism in the places you can travel - and I wonder if such enhancements will be purchase-only (such as with XPlane 11). It's an easy way to spend your time - but I'm not sure that you will feel you have achieved much when you finished. I have a similar experience with Google Earth - great virtual tourism, but in the end, the separation from the places you're virtually visiting makes it feel coldly frustrating. Still it is a game for the times, and it may be popular for what it represents, and not what it is. As a flight simulator, it will undoubtedly be a great sandbox for wonderful (and expensive) add-on experiences.

Pros: great concept of a 'virtual world' version of a flight sim - ambitious in scope and multiplayer aspects. This can be quite meditative in the right mood. The graphics fidelity is good in general, and it does feel great to watch the planes flying around. Yes - it does capture the magic of flight (though for most of us, it's the arriving rather than the transit that is the fun part of air travel).

Cons: The launcher is poor - and overall main UI is poor - overly complex and unclear as to how to use. In-game controls are also mixed bag (it may be great for sim-players, but is downright un-intuitive to casual gamers). The ML-based building construction is very limited - making city-tourism downright generic (it's a harsh criticism, but don't play this game at this stage to "see what a city looks like". Also, if I look at my own home cities of Melbourne, Adelaide, or Tokyo - they really don't look that realistic. The landscapes are better. There are unusual LOD issues in the game which gives random quality issues, as well as occasional tile-tearing. The 'live' elements miss obvious things such as radio comms (you know how that would go wrong though). Also there are simple things that would have helped - like being able to adjust settings using mouse when using an external view). Playing in the cockpit is more challenging, and where the flight simmers will want to mess around most. For me however, it was not as enjoyable as a casual experience. I also experienced stutter and frame drops when there are a lot of other players in the sky.

    Mixbag review :

    PROS :

    The game is beautiful

    CONS:

There are some things that should not have passed the beta, I don't understand how they come through but some things are at the edge of the unaceptable :

    - For the B350, the nav panel is unusable, it's "tactil" and completly annoying, plus the normal buttons are inactive so there is only the tactil way to operate the G1000 and it just can't be done, the airplane is therefore unusable.

    - The flight model can be strange sometimes, some airplanes are too reactive, other not that much.
The TBM900 for instance, in order to taxi, you almost need to keep the torque at more than 50% otherwise the thing won't move, I had also a drop in engine torque during take off for no reason whatsoever.

    - It seems there are similar navigation problems with the A320neo, I did not try it for the moment.

    - For VATSIM, IVAO or PILOTEDGE there is a bug that causes stutter and drop frames in the game, it seems it's on microsoft / asobo end.

There is a LOT of general aviation aircraft, I like them but they could have find perhaps a better balance, I miss some planes like the 737 or another jet aircraft like the Learjet 45.

I've noticed with the Cessna Citation CJ4 that sometimes the auto-pilot would do his life on its own sometimes, for instance, arriving at a VOR, it has not passed the first VOR that it already goes to the next waypoint way too early, like 5 minutes before it should have, I had to get back on manual in order to prevent the plane to completly miss a standard arrival procedure.

The logbook and the achievements are completly bugged, my logbook does not count any take off that I have done but it counts the landings.

For the achievements, I have unlocked achievements that I should not have, at strange moment, for instance I've unlocked the achievement for a long taxi road when I was FL200........
I've unlocked the achievement for landing without any engine after a landing where my engines were working perfectly fine.
Some timestamps and duration of flights are not correct with a quite large margin of error like more than 30 minutes.

The general interface of the airplane is quite hard to deal with especially during flight when the camera and therefore the mouse move. I miss a 2D view of the cockpit like in previous FS in order to operate some systems with ease with the mouse during flight operations.

This type of things should have come out during the alpha and beta and should have finished in the final game, especially the problems with the navigation panel of the B350 or the strange flight model of some planes sometimes.

12/20 for the moment with all the little problems here.

Going to more technical details, there's some things that could be fixed. I played it through Game Pass and there are some things that may bug people that consider paying full 70 dollars, like a very long download at first run. Despite having a good network (600 Mbps) the download took more than 3 hours. This removes the possibility of refunding the game on Steam, because you can't try it long enough (the download is in game and takes game time) to decide of keeping it or refund it if you don't like the game. And then, when the download finishes, it crashes the game, so I have to restart the game on Task Manager cause it's the only way around for me.
I don't know, if my computer can't run it properly (despite having an RX 580 8GB and 24 gigs of RAM), or it's very bad optimized, but is a nightmare to deal with the game. The MENU take more than 3 minutes to load, and even the menu is slow and tough to control, specially with a controller. Then, when I wanna play the game, it takes another 2-3 minutes to load. Then, I can play the game. At 10 frames per second on high settings, no v-sync, 1080p, on a computer that handles games like Forza Horizon 4, Devil May Cry 5 or Grand Theft Auto Online at least 70 frames per second. Another thing that I've experienced with the game it's some crashes, and mid-game freezes for seconds, making it a very frustrating experience, specially in crucial moments in the ride.
In conclusion, Microsoft Flight Simulator remains a very good game, that, despite it really needs some optimization, some people with RTX's suffer from crashes and low FPS. Some aspects really need to be fixed, like loading time issues and first run slow downloads.

Originally purchased the game on Steam, got a refund after multiple crashes, then got it on Xbox Game Pass but still have the same problem. The installer for this is terrible, I might add. I have tried all recommended troubleshooting options; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times (which takes minimum 3 hours each time). I have turned off all background applications, updated my GPU driver, updated Windows, updated the Microsoft Store app, uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Visual C++, performed Cleanboot, turned off antivirus and firewall, and disabled all third-party applications. I have installed the game on a SSD. I have an overlocked Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, and 16GB of RAM, but I'm unable to play this game even on LOW-END settings without it crashing. If I turn off online functionality, the graphics look worse than a Nintendo 64 game, and it still crashes sometimes. I definitely would not recommend, unless you're looking for hours of aggravation, OR if you insist on trying your luck, wait until several patches have been released.

[To Microsoft and Asobo Studios]: Please don't list a GTX 970 as fulfilling your official "recommended" system requirements, only to release a game that apparently can only run if you have two SLI-compatible GeForce 2080tis on your rig. Thanks.

Until they released a 55-GiB update when I was 1 hour away from my goal and ruined my evening. I couldn't possibly download it until I went to bed, so I continued in the morning and... The game required a COMPLETE re-download, and said there wasn't enough disk space (because all the packages were already there). This simulator has GREAT potential but still has some childhood diseases. I would rate 10/10 if the above issues are solved.

Since the Flight Simulator 4, back in the 90s, I have been waiting for something like this. And now this dream has become true. Incredible what they achieved here. This is a true "next generation" of flight simulation.

    - The whole world with all buildings

    - Realistc flight decks
    - Realistic sound
    - Real world air traffic
    - Road traffic
    - Thousands of trees on the ground
    - All airports of the world

I am sure there will be plenty of professional aircraft coming out in 2021/22 so that we can fly the FSLabs A320 or the Aerosoft planes. Can't wait! The foundation is already made with this masterpiece of a flight sim!

I have a powerful PC in my opinion and this game takes 2 minutes to load everytime I go another round. When other AAA games I play load instantly or much faster than the same games on consoles. This game is not for everyone for sure.

Microsoft Flight Simulator features some really impressive, even groundbreaking technologies that allow it to procedurally create entire Earth. [Issue#249, p.74]

It’s not just a game, it’s a phenomenon. It lets you explore literally the whole planet – cities, mountains, lakes, rivers, even my house was there – from the cockpits of 20-30 (depends on the version of the game) airplanes. Flying experiences are also great and vary from machine to machine. I’m sure I’ll be returning to MFS for years to come. [11/2020, p.38]

When all is said and done, Microsoft Flight Simulator in its current state reminds me a lot of Sea of Thieves shortly after launch. The game has a lot of promise and a lot of potential, but it is marred by a number of issues that keep it from really shining. Once the issues have been worked out in six months or a year from now, I fully expect Microsoft Flight Simulator to be a must-have title. Right now, unless you are a hardcore flight sim fanatic, I would pass on buying the premium version and just stick to playing the basic version that's included with GamePass.
