(ESCORT MISSIONS!!! NO ONE LIKES THEM!)
The traveltime in this game is horrible, you spend 40% of the game running from a to b, and the time spend flying in your chopper just seems to badly made. You have to watch yourself fly at least 1 minute either from takeoff or landing, this gets old really fast.
It takes about 3-4 minutes to ride from one small camp to another, and the desert/mountain scenario gets old REALLY fast.

You cant get more than 1 thing in your supply drop, so you have to wait allmost 1 minute from you order something, till it hits the ground, then buy 1 more thing and wait another minute.

The weapon customization options are pitiful when you finally do unlock them, and most changes to the guns don't ACTUALLY do ANYTHING. I've literally found around three parts that make changes to the base gun model. It's good for nothing more than painting your guns or adding flashlights though god only knows why the **** you'd bother with those.

It's literally Far Cry 2 with even LESS areas to explore. You will find yourself mind numbingly stumbling through the game later on taking down hostiles and picking up resources just because you've gotten to a point where you're going through the motions, the areas are totally uninspired, even if they are gorgeous to look at.

You do openly have the freedom to approach missions in almost anyway you want,
that is, whenever snake isn't randomly sliding down inclines that I could easily crawl up myself.

you cant even rebind the majority of the keys or save the game (even MGS1 let you save more or less freely!).
    bad console port.
    requested a refund.

As a fan of the Metal Gear series, particularly 1, 2 and 3, this game has left me disappointed. Why is that? First, it's an open world game. Now mind you, I have nothing against open world games. Why is that? First, it's an open world game. Now mind you, I have nothing against open world games. Open world games can be a blast if done right. Since this is the first time Metal Gear has gone open world, I had high expectations that they'd not only meet but exceed their competitors when it came to creating a world that you actually want to explore. I mean, what is the point of making an open world game if it's not interesting to traverse? If you're not going to do that, just make it a linear game like prior games in the series and perfect each space by littering them full of interesting things to see and do. And here is my first complaint with Metal Gear Solid 5: the open world is uninteresting. You have Africa and Afghanistan - both overly brown, void of much life, and little to hold your interest while moving throughout the world. While there are side missions sprinkled throughout the world, the side missions are, sadly enough, entirely filler content that does little to add to the game. Actually, they sort of detract from the game overall. Instead of creating a linear, narrative-driven Metal Gear Solid, they've created an open world, one that doesn't have anything interesting going on in it, and then try to throw in some copy & paste side missions that are incredibly uninteresting and by-the-numbers in their design. But, then, the story must be good, especially if you're a Metal Gear fan, right? Wrong. For whatever reason, Konami replaced their old voice actors with new, more recognizable actors. For example, instead of David Hayter, we get Kiefer Sutherland. Not only does his performance fail in comparison to Hayter's, he rarely even talks throughout the game. And here's another issue: there's barely any cutscenes compared to the prior Metal Gear's. While I'll concede that prior Metal Gear's may have been overkill when it came to cutscenes, but they've swung the pendulum so far from that that there's not enough now. I do agree that the gameplay here is solid and enjoyable, but when the world it takes place in, the narrative that surrounds, and the extra content is so poor, I can't give it praise that it simply doesn't deserve. If you're a fan of open world games, this will disappoint you. If you're a fan of Metal Gear Solid's past, this will disappoint. As a fan of both, I'm floored that people are giving this game high marks. I can only surmise that it's because people were really hyped about it and now they're forgiving issues that they'll soon come to dislike. As is the case very often with people who play games and people who write about them, they sometimes overlook glaring issues when they release and then only come to grips with the fact that the game wasn't all that years down the road. Metal Gear Solid V is one such game Expand

I am giving this game a zero as a wake up call to all game developers out there to not release unfinished, untested and broken games because quite frankly i have had a gut fool. Im sure that this one review is not going to make any difference amongst the near universal praise that this game has been recieving which i find unbelievable. if i was being honest the game is 7 out of 10 for me as the main structure of the game is extremely repetitive and honestly it feels empty and divoid of any richness if that makes any sense. I also have to point out the controls which are just bad, why on earth do i have two different sprint buttons for on foot and on hoarse? it dosent make any sense and I'm not even going to go into the cover system which again, is just broken and seems to have a mind of it's own. And lastly for a metal gear game the story is very lacking and poorly told. Rant over! Expand

This game is an insult both to MGS series and definition of the word 'game' itself.
Gameplay-wise it is also garbage - only after 8-10 missions there is literally nothing new in next missions, excluding poorly put together and not really interesting tapes and rarely small pieces of cutscenes. After that amount of missions you are bound to understand that you're basically errand boy doing some minor work while all important and interesting events occur without you (according to radio messages from Miller after another completed errand).

Though none of this really makes or breaks the game for me. What I can't get into is the gameplay. I just don't find it satisfying whatsoever. The game seems torn between being realistic and arcade. On one hand you need to use iron sights/scopes to shoot with any kind of accuracy, but on the other hand your guns don't have rate of fire controls, meaning that your full auto rifles just spray all over the place barely hitting targets that are point blank. The stealth mechanics aren't bad, but the enemies are bullet sponges, (which I really don't like in shooters), and instead of a silenced pistol you get a tranquilizer pistol that requires head shots to knock targets out immediately. Otherwise, you have to fire multiple shots. Which brings me to the AI, who are dumb as **** If they don't see you, you can just keep shooting them with sedatives and they just kinda stand there like 'cool drugs bro, thanks!' But, why don't you get an actual silenced pistol? So you can attach a parachute to your knocked out targets that flies them to your base where through some bizarre form of brain washing they become part of your own little private army.

Your character is also a bullet sponge, so if you want to just run n gun you certainly can. But there's no clutch play going on here, it's just bullet sponge against bullet sponge with horribly inaccurate weapons and tranq guns. I think the game is primarily focused on being a stealth game where you sneak up and choke people to sleep or shoot them in the head with a tranq gun so you can send their bodies to your oil rig out in the middle of the ocean for assimilation.

So this is the famous Metal Gear Solid eyh? I never played it before, until I got my hand on The Phantom Pain. Boy let me tell you it's kinda a fruitless endeavor: i.e. repetitive missions, a messy story-line development, lack of even some basic logic and lack of consistency.

I'll tell a bit on the lack of consistency. Basically you can develop new weapons and gear as you progress.

I'll tell a bit on the lack of consistency. Basically you can develop new weapons and gear as you progress. However, this game rewards stealth/non-killing style. But the things you can develop are almost all meant for killing, often with a loud bang. So throughout the game you're stuck with the few basic things if you want to go the non-lethal way. But then... you have missions where you practically have no choice but to kill massively, often with loud bangs involved. So what's the point right? You can't be consistent as in, say, the Deus Ex franchise.

Then there's the repetition. You can't develop meaningful things for a long time, so you're doing repetitive missions with the same old tranquilizer pistol (if you go non-lethal) for a quite a while, whether it's a level 1 or an upgraded level 2 pistol. Nothing changes really.

Look, the graphics and motions are done nice. But it's the one and only good thing. But frankly it's a big grindfest in a neat environment which demands too much time to travel from one spot to another. Finally there's the controls, it's a bad port (unfinished) from a PlayStation system. For example the mouse doesn't even work in the Menu UI (only keys can be used to change settings) and in-game you need to press awkward key-combinations to get things done, like making cool moves. There are a lot of annoyances like that, including unfinished walk-paths and hiding spots. Even hiding is weird implemented: for some reason hiding crouched behind a wall is more hidden than just being crouched behind a wall (lol wtf?). But some spots aren't finished marking by the programmers as hiding-places, so you're wondering why you can't "hide" behind this massive boulder for example - but you can hide behind this tiny wall.

There's a storyline, but for the un-initiated it's almost entirely un-penetrable.From what I understand, even for die-hard MSG fans the story is nonsensical. One has to listen to endless audio-tapes (no video), and then try to make something coherent out of it.

What can I say, this game really needs to move up 2 good notches before I could give it an minimal acceptable 6/10 rating. Hence the rating of 4/10.

Might as well include, spanish, chinnese, or russian just to mention a few. I mean, Russians in Afghanistan in the 70's should say something about imperialism and language right?

The main missions are for the most part repetitive and stale and revisit the same areas over and over (the side missions are absolutely tedious because of this).

The story is unfinished (given kojima konami split earlier), uneven, jarring, filled with plot holes and can appear mind boggling and laughable at times. The characters are unappealing and poorly developed. You'll scratch your head many times trying to understand a plot twist or wacky unprovoked character behaviour...

You'd hope dlc would fix this but it wont given ongoing developer publisher relations and its too widespread and major a problem anyway. A great shame; certainly one of the wackiest and most non sensical games I've ever played (even compared to past mgs).

I've stopped midway through chapter 2 now and have done with the game, its that rubbish; try witcher 3 (100 x better than this) or mad max (unrecognised hit) instead or hold your breath till fallout 4 because this game will leave you frustrated....

*Dull uninteresting desert environment coupled with boring enemy outposts that consist of a few tents, crates, and cardboard houses
*PC controls need work; horse jerks left/right instead of just turning, snake has to stop fully when exiting sprint, you have to hold buttons a lot when doing stuff instead of them being toggle buttons. On-screen key tutorials still use console controller icons.
*Motherbase meta sounds fun, but is ultimately a GUI screen/simple econ management with no integrations into the core gameplay experience.

The core gameplay is simple and solid and mainly involves you sneaking around corners and tranquilizing clueless guards in the face. The game doesn't really build on that much as you play it, repetition is a very prominent theme in MGS5 which is not what you would expect from a MG title. Snake go rescue this hostage, now sneak in and kill this guy, now sneak into the same base you just were in 2 missions ago and steal these documents. Rinse repeat, at least for the 20 hours or so that I played. I kept holding out, expecting there to be more, but it just kept being the same old boring routine. You unlock various weapons/items of which 80% you don't use because they're not stealth related. The game actively punishes you for "going loud" and yet you have grenades, rockets, attack helicopters, mortar strikes, snipers, assault rifles, etc. Meanwhile stealth gear mainly consists of your hands, your tranq gun, and your limitless empty magazine stock. Your approach is always the same; sneak around some corners CQC the guards you lured towards you with magazines/sounds, and tranq gun the rest. No long range engagements, no traps, no clever uses of the environment, no change of pace.

The environment is literally the dullest environment you could possibly base a game off of. Why would you pick a dessert for your open world? It sounds boring because it is, between bases there is nothing but sand and rocks that you can't traverse over. Calling this open world is a stretch because you pretty much are forced to take roads in order to get anywhere because there are rock formations blocking your every path. Capturing animals gets boring after the 3rd time you do it, it's just a meaningless number that you increase. Enemy bases are pretty much a tent, a few cardboard houses, and some crates. Gets really old really fast.

The motherbase feature sounds like it'd be really cool; collect soldiers you find in the battlefield and build your own personal army with them. You would only select the greatest soldiers you could find and maybe you could all go out to the bar and hang out or, even better, infiltrate bases together, like "you take those cardboard houses and I'll take these" or something. Nope. Motherbase is pretty much a GUI interface that says "hey you have these soldiers, click this button to research stuff, now click this button to send them on a timer-based dice-roll mission that gets you money". You can walk around the physical motherbase, however, there is no actual interaction with anything there so it adds very little to the experience.

The character controls are pretty questionable for on foot and on horse, not sure if this is a PC port issue or if it's like this on consoles as well. Snake awkwardly transitions from run to walk; he must come to a full stop from sprint before he transitions into walking again. A lot of the times you have to hold a key or multiple keys down to do stuff when they should just be toggle keys. I've let a few enemies out of a choke hold because of this which cost me a lot of time due to the nature of being spotted and having to restart from checkpoint.

Graphically it's just "meh". It's not bad, it's not good, it's just a plain jane kinda game. It ran fine on my highend Nvidia gaming rig. The artistic choices are weird too, but it is MGS. Snake is part sci-fi robot that can shoot lightning out of his robot arm and has a holographic scannermatron but everyone else is listening to cassette tapes and doing 80s stuff.

Would I recommend you buy this game? Nah, save your money.

However, there are still stuttering issues at times during the game, which require a hard reboot of the console to correct. This game's story has to be one of the worst I've heard in years and there's not even a satisfying conclusion to it all liked you'd expect from the final Kojima Metal Gear Solid game. And this is a huge problem because it makes the game feel unfinished when you combine that with the fact that Chapter 2 is just you replaying the same missions you already played on a higher difficulty. The games gives you a decent amount of options, but the actual level design doesn't encourage you to stray from the norm and try new things unless you just spam headshots over and over because then soldiers will start wearing helmets. The open world is barebones, lifeless and dull as well as a chore to travel with mountains that exist for no other reason, but pure padding and to impede your way. On top of there is no variety in the environments that you encounter in the game apart from the prologue, which strips all control from the user and is overlong anyway. This would be okay if the environments in the game were actually interesting like with previous Metal Gear games, however MGSV's depictions of Africa and Afghanistan are as uninteresting as can be, which is absurd(especially in Africa) considering the amount of landmarks and variations it has. MGSV reminds me of a 3rd person Far Cry 4, but with better mechanics, an even worse world and even more repetitive side missions. Both games can be "fun" for a time, but you'll end up with a very bad taste in your month after a while and especially once you're done and reflect on what you've done in the game. The side ops are a joke, have no context and recycle the same areas and objectives from the main game. My advice if you must play this nonsense is to wait for a sale so you're not as disappointed in your purchase as I was. Expand

I'm sent to take out bases on my own, even though I have a base of soldiers who could swamp the area in seconds. I'm told to develop weapons that in past games were 'procure on site'. I am told to collect resources and plants. an errand boy. of course we could look at it another way. we kidnap these russian soldiers and it turns out they have no allegiance or national pride. no integrity. so I then have to question what they are doing here. I'm also questioning the point of building up this base, when it seems like they would have no chance against skull face or that floating red headed gas mask girl. it's clear from last games that snake is best as a solo operative, so building up this base is nothing but bullcrap busy work.

I've struggled with this game since I got it. struggled to try and push myself to get to the parts where the story picks up. but having looked at other reviews it seems I have wasted my time. I am a mug. my only consolation is that i got a pre-order from a different site at a 25% off.

The only good things about the game, are the production values, the great PC port, the graphics, the sound, the voice acting. Production wise and if you forget about the repetitiveness, this game is a great work. But here end all the good things.

The story is trash. Typical Kojima trash. The kind of trash only apes find worthwhile.

Gameplay is good, but repetitive. After a while you lose the motivation to keep playing. For what is worth, this is the only metal gear solid game in the entire series that has decent gameplay. And has actualy stealth. If that is any consolation.

Still, the game overstays its welcome, and since the story is trash, unfinished, and not worth the effort, you are better off ignoring this game. And the series. Just play something else. Let Konami and the franchise die.

Movement in this game is buggy, your player gets stuck on things, the 'e' button climbing option sometimes takes time to light up.
This poor movement and interaction with the environment completely ruins game play as you are trying to be stealthy and then you are seen by the enemy simply because your player is 'stuck' on a small rock, trying to get through an opening in a wall or trying to climb something.

And, the equipment menus are a pain, the instructions and manual were thought out by a lazy 5 year old, so often I had to google just how to play the game.

So this game wants you to play stealthy, but its so poorly ported that its glitches and bugs get you seen by the enemy far too often turning the game into a first person shooter, and this game is Not a good shooter.

Trying to shoot over a ledge in the prone position is next to impossible, I have fallen over/off ledges trying to move forward enough so your first person gun sights are enabled when prone. Iit's just stupid frustrating.

The developers should have got the basics right before making it look so pretty.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start....I have LOVED MGS since I originally played Metal Gear Solid for the PS1, played all of them including the handhelds before they were in all these HD remakes. That being said, The Phantom Pain IS NOT a Metal Gear Solid game. In my opinion it's closer to a Far Cry sequel than anything else. Act 1 is AMAZING, the 2nd and final Act should not have been included into the game at all. The game is FAR from complete. Act 2 was just a bunch of rehashed stuff from Act 1. "Tactical Espionage Action" has nothing to do with it either. Like I said, it's Far Cry, only you have a sneaking suit. The game is set in War-zones, yet....they arent War Zones. You Rarely run into ANYONE out in the world unless they're at a camp/base. No civilians, no resistance fighters, hardly anything. You'll come across a truck every once in a while, or 2 guys walking down a road, but those aren't patrols. Those are 2 dudes out on a nature walk. This game ruined the franchise, and I'm happy Kojima isn't making them anymore, because I'd hate to see the next embarrassing installment of what was once a great series. Expand

The beginning in the game, in the hospital was really good, i thought in my head oh boy was we in for a treat, tbh things were going well in chapter 1 until you start to think.

    Cons
    - Chapter 2 is not complete, random cutscenes, rehash of same missions from chapter1, timeline doesnt flow.
    - In what way will the the characters be relevant and connect to the other MGS games? Like practically 0.
    - Skullface is very underwhelming, you dont even get a boss fight against him
    - Boss fights? Yeh hardly any, if there was one, then it was very forgettable.
    - The story is CRAP, i dont care for a chapter 3 at this point, i am so dissapointed in the previous chapters and the story, i really dont care if the game is finished.
    - Codetalker? COPULATION, VOCAL CORD PARASITES, THE DIN'EH... he is just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
    - Miller is constantly pissed off unless he is cooking burgers.
    - Ocelot is not the real Ocelot
    - Did i mention the story and pacing?
    - And the plot twist in the end? I appreciate what they were trying to do, but that made me like 'really?....'
    - How can zero not be part of this game at all?!?!
    - The open-world makes it bland (not saying it shouldnt be open world).
    - Side quests get very repetitive and tedious

    Pros
    - Gameplay, by for the best mechanics for me. It can get too easy with the buddies and upgrades, just simply dont use em if it gets too easy.
    - Graphics are nice
    - Runs very well
    - At times the chapter 1 missions were quite tense.

But yeh overall i did not like this game, and was a huge let down. I know the drama that happened between Kojima-san and Konami. Dont get me wrong Im all for Kojima and hate the vile Konami but even i have to admit Kojima kinda dropped the ball for this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. it is so sad to think about how awesome this game could be with the nice graphics and optimization... After that amazing intro, i could never imagine how boring and repetitive it would get.

Boring because of the completely nonsensical plot and back story, lame villains and the disappointing boss battles, specially the first one with Sahelanthropus, they really took a dump on the game with this one:
-Snake is infiltrated in a high security military base filled with soldiers, war tanks and war helicopters.
-If you decide to escape the base without the walker machine, Snake is on feet, carrying a crippled prisoner plus all those weapons.
-"Skull face" somehow knows about it, he could command all the soldiers in the base to kill Snake easily, but instead, he decides to make Snake a surprise on his exit and show him Sahelanthropus for like no reason at all.
-From one second to another, all the soldiers in the military base just vanished, the high security military base is total empty and simply abandoned now, forget about them, it is only Snake and Sahelanthropus now. (the same happened when you are about to secure the remains of the man on fire)
-Sahelanthropus with all its power and greatness is unable of killing Snake, even if he is standing right in front of it at a open field and a clear shot vision.
-Snake escapes Sahelanthropus and the military base on feet, uncovered and carrying all those weapons plus a crippled prisoner on his back.
-Snake calls the helicopter to pick him up in a place where Sahelanthropus can see.
-Sahelanthropus is unable of taking down a chopper.
-Snake gets in the chopper and destroys Sahelanthropus with shots from a .50 machine gun.
Seriously? Even a old war tank could handle those shots or take down the chopper but the weapon supposed to bring to world to its knees could not?

About being repetitive, some people say that it is only if you play always the same time but that makes no sense at all.
It is nice that i could do all the exact same missions all over again in a different way if i wanted, not that i was bound to do it anyway so i can get to the end of the game, which by the way, was cut out from it. The game has no end at all, what doesn't matter because the story is so boring that you do not have desire to know what happens next.

First 3 hours it loolks like best game. But after that it is stereotyped and boring. I dont understand this score. If you are big fan of steal action game, maybe yes. Why on pc are not games more linear like last of us, god of war, etc.

What will make or break this game for you are the stealth and combat mechanics. If you love going deep on those you might be able to overlook all the other stuff. You have to really, really love the combat, otherwise this gets old fast.

This would have been a much better game in a more level-based format to anchor the story and keep the tension high. As it is, the open world does nothing but water down an already weak story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll be honest.

The game as a whole looks like fever dream of some gun polishing anarchist who'll gonna never get scored.

I mean, virus, which reacts to attempt to speak particular language, photosynthetic skin, latex-clad pyrokinetic transvestites, physics-defying zombies, diamonds made of human bodies... all in 1984, in what pretends to be our more or less 'real' world?! Really?! Even Fallout 76 didn't reached this level of 'screw common sense'... for now.
It'd look neat in some gamification of some science fiction about XXII century. Guilty Gear series managed to handle it well, as example.

Roleplay: care to play as lobotomized junkie who sees things?

What remains is, in fact, a huge sandbox for mastering stealth kills, with pretty standard (for games originating from that country) cool music.

In brief: shallow, repetitive open world and missions, sparse story, poor character usage, disjointed story and gameplay, would be some of the main issues I have with this game.

After the enjoyable intro I really thought the whole thing is gonna be at the very least a decent experience, the intro and the main game are basically two separate games in one. Even if the ending wasn't

I'm pretty annoyed that so many people gave it such high ratings, which resulted in me getting a game that was a huge let down.

The sound volume is all over the place. There's no options to adjust it in game so I'm having to use keyboard keys to constantly adjust it.

    The movement is annoyingly imprecise.

They have hints and tutorials but they're very incomplete and miss big things, such as takedowns, which are somewhat complex.

They take head bobbing to the next level by having your screen shake when running.

I've played previous MGS games and recall enjoying one or two, but I did not find the ultra-stealth type gameplay fun in this one. Sneaking around takes too long and it's too easy to get seen. I uninstalled in one of the first missions. After watching a playthrough on youtube I see they give you a box to hide in later on, which helps with stealth.

Graphics are nice enough, and run close enough to 100 FPS in 2020 at 1080p with a 5700 GPU. Only 5 years after its release can you run this game at decent frames with a high-end PC...

The story is crazy, so I skipped through a playthrough on youtube. It seems that the beginning of the game is story-heavy, but gets much less so, and most of the game is the same uninteresting, repetitive, and nonunique mission types. The story and events are pretty nonsensical (and poorly crafted), even after suspension of disbelief for their fictional reality.

And actually, after watching a playthrough I'm lowering my score even further. The story is ridiculous and nonsensical. Like a 6 year old came up with it. And the repetitive, boring gameplay extends throughout the whole game.

I also saw towards the end of the playthrough that in one of the random loading tips they tell you to wait for night if activity during the day seems too heavy. Yet another important tip they don't tell you when/before you need it. Not to mention how to even "wait till night".

There's a fairly complex base management and recruitment system. Might be a "pro" for some, but not for me.

It isn’t easy to assign this evaluation to MGS V.
But, even if the game is playable, with a good plot, it has the biggest problem a game can ever have: it isn’t complete.
This is clearly an unfinished project. I read it was planned to be 5 chapters long: it can’t even conclude the 2nd with a proper ending.
A game which could be a masterpiece, ruined like this. Pathetic

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before you read my review, note that I play a lot of stealth games and I only heard that Metal Gear Solid was supposed to be really good. So I downloaded it to see how it would play.

At first I thought this game would play out to be super cool. When you wake up in a hospital bed and have to get knocked out what was it? Twice? Because you freaked out after coming out of a coma. We all saw it then the doctor got choked and an assassin got bathed in flames and jumped out of a window. I laughed at that. Characters on fire jumping out of windows thinking it would save them.

But then you play the game a bit more, having to crawl around and eventually getting to stand up and you need to break from the hospital. I was sort of okay at this random psycho setting things on fire and the big fire dude walking toward you. After you see those soldiers get chopped up by that helicopter controlled by her you can't help but being like "WHAT THE F*** THAT HAPPENED" okay massive action. But you keep playing and the guy who spent 9 years watching you got killed like *that* and some random guy pops out of nowhere on a horse and says "hey I'm a friend get on my horse" then you see a GIANT WHALE ON FIRE THAT EATS A HELICOPTER OUT OF THE SKY??? Too much action to the point it was stupid. Like I had this guy on fire that was riding what I assume was a unicorn that was also on fire. It's action which is great, but in all the wrong places and it wasn't even funny after a point. You then never see those characters again for another 12 or so hours of gameplay.

I would find that the gun play and interaction with the world is good and also having your own super massive "mother base" is also cool but that's probably about it. When it comes to managing this massive base of yours, you get almost no say in where each part is built, what it looks like, no instead it's all placed in some giant level with nothing more than an ocean plane in it. Sure you can change the colour, but you can't do much more than that. Collecting resources, particularly right at the start seems more like a chore rather than something that should be fun. Each part of the game is fun the first few times but then you notice how repetitive it becomes like certain missions in the same areas or collecting resources again and again.

When you find out that the only thing that can extract those large shipping crates of essential raw material is locked behind a seemingly impossible research task it loses it's appeal. I only managed to find one transport specialist for the cargo Fulton, only to find out he must have been kicked from my organisation in a staff fight. Like I said, having a massive base is cool but it should not feel like a chore to manage. That's kind of the point of game design.

I also find it frustrating how the game explains only certain things in a hint window accessible on the pause menu. You can't navigate to sections, only scroll one by one to each topic. And even then it does not explain everything. Like what these shipping crates are for or how you can get the helicopter to land closer by blowing up the radar boxes. You've got to discover the really important things yourself. And most of the time the game repeats the same f***ing hint again like what this plant does for some active ingredient for a drug I just made up on the spot. It's most of the time at random and the tutorials are off cue, if there are any.

I'll end on a sort of weird note is that the stealth system is both stupid, funny and poorly designed. I love how I can hide in my box and lure an enemy over to it with the right combination of camouflage and distance only to knock them out. And if you ever find a power generator, turn it off. The stealth system dispatches the nearest enemy to check it out. And when they do, pop them in the head or Fulton them. Turn the generator on, wait a bit and turn it off again. Rinse and repeat and you can actually lure ALL of the enemies out of a highly fortified base to check out a generator. ;)

Overall, I'd say this game is well designed in the parts it counts the most but some of the controls are a pain to use, especially when you're used to A to jump and X to interact from call of duty. This is the one game where the back and start buttons are swapped. And I hope it's not on purpose.
The level design is great, but mostly empty therefore negating the need to explore the wilderness. Most of the resources you need are inside enemy bases which is disappointing.
I particularly love the sound design and music cues which are point on, but in some areas overused but I think that's the point of this style of game.
The textures I think are decent but nothing special. They put the world together nicely.
The UI is reasonably responsive where it counts the most.

Overall, I rate this game a 4/10. For my own curiosity I continue to play, but I think I'll stop soon for my own sanity due to it's repetitiveness

Repetitive is the best word to describe this game. Monotonous missions and graphics.
Way to much extra/useless garbage in this game. Cardboard boxes & plants??? Game needs more structure and less extras. It could have been great with half the missions but a better structured game play without the extra complexity. They

Very disappointing, was glad to uninstall it and move on to another game. Developers missed the point on this, seemed like a confusing bunch of ideas thrown together. Completely UNFUN.
Buy only if under $10. Issues -
    Controls are so so
Missions are very similar and monotonous
Graphics are monotonous, same scenery all the time
Many ideas in this game seem to have little or no real purpose. Game is over complicated with extra's(tapes, base building, extra units, missions behind the scenes by your units)
    Not linear
    Pacing is slow
    Structure is completely absent
Just a bunch of similar missions
    REALLY monotonous

Metal Gear Solid V is amazing at times, and I enjoyed playing it, but there are so many embarrassing blunders and contradictions. Rich tactical gameplay vs an almost dead world. Fun HQ management and interesting characters vs an unfinished narrative and boring side quests. In some regards, this is a huge step back from previous Metal Gear games.
