Between the cost of the games separately on original DS hardware and all the changes Capcom has made to make the experience more enjoyable, there is zero reason to return to the DS originals. I won’t be and I own them. It’s another great collection in the Mega Man series and from one of their most overlooked renditions of the blue bomber himself.

This collection is another step by Capcom in proving that it can bring back the company’s classic gems while still winning over new fans. Without innovating or adding meaningful new content beyond what was already there, the three games and their seven versions are nonetheless well adapted for modern platforms, and the addition of competitive multiplayer is something fans are going to appreciate, even if the lack of Spanish language support and new features may leave more veteran players wanting more.

The Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is a more ambitious undertaking than its source material might suggest. Not every element works equally well—some aesthetic choices remain questionable—but the work invested on the technical and structural fronts demonstrates a clear intent: not merely to preserve these games, but to bring them back into circulation in a form that remains relevant today. In this context, the RE Engine serves not merely as a container, but as a tool that compels a reinterpretation. And even when friction arises, it is precisely within that tension between fidelity and transformation that the collection discovers its true identity.
