A very generic, unsophisticated click-ARPG that is leagues behind most modern offerings in the genre. The game is heavily bloated with currencies and shops that are meaningless unless you were introduced to them as they came and in general it plays like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance but worse and 10 years later.

At first when I started playing this game I would of gave this game a 5, but lately it has improved a lot. The game feels like a fun ARPG with several characters to choose from. The story is ok, not the best, but not the worst. The cash shop seems expensive at times where a costume can cost about $15 but I guess people expect that from f2p games now a days.

Honestly if you're looking for a f2p Super Hero ARPG, Marvel Heroes does a good job at that. I think it would be a better game if it was a b2p game, but I guess its too late to do that.

This game has improved a lot since its release, but I'm still not a huge fan. It looks an plays like something from a decade ago. Its free to try though. If you're into ARPGs like Diablo or Torchlight it might be worth a try.

This game is an absolute blast particularly if you like marvel characters. There's lots of content, a full 9 chapter story mode with comic book style cinematics, boss run modes called "terminals", Challenge modes which are survival waves and an open area with events that spawn every few minutes and random spawning packs mobs, a good handful of hub areas to chill out in, a raid zone, weekly events with special items and bonuses, 2 short story areas, and more coming.

Not to mention 38 heroes (at the time of writing) with more on the way already announced. There are also LOTS of villains to fight and many will soon be playable!

This game plays like an action RPG similar to a Diablo/Torchlight/Titan Quest game, but with marvel heroes and super hero powers.

It's free to play, but there are a lot of micro-transactions. Thankfully, you can get most of the things free using in game currency like new heroes and team ups. The one thing you may end up spending cash on is to increase your storage space. You get on box/page for free plus what your hero and hold and some space for your team up (even if you don't have a team up you can still use their inventory space). But if you play for a while you'll probably end up wanting more to hold all your phat loot :).

Graphics are nice, some of the ability effects are really crazy - great eye candy, while some of the environment are a bit mediocre the new content looks really amazing (Odin's Palace is beautiful). The character voices are amazing - really well done and the concessional interactions with other characters is often hilarios - for example sometimes when Rocket Racoon gets near Iron Man hes says something like "Do you think I could get on of those in my size?" and Cyclops will ask "Staying out of trouble Gambit? Didn't think so." Makes the characters feel more lifelike.

Anyways give it a shot, lots of fun - don't let the old reviews spoil it, this game is amazing.

Gazillion continues to get shadier. The current tactic is to "re-release" the game in the attempt to get inflated scores. Players who did not like the game have already stopped playing.

They then wiped the negative review scores on the "re-released" entry. It's getting pretty bad.

The staff here host many events over the year and the Omega System is pretty rad!

My only concern is that Team-Ups need a tune up and should be made unkillable when you summon them so that they can be brought into high end content over simply making them passive.

Gazillion is sleazy and underhanded in their manipulation of their fanbase.

Gazillion's developer Doomsaw even went so far as to request "honest reviews" from the fanbase to up their score. A fanbase that had been groomed to only the most sycophantic, and aggressively defensive players through stealth moderation, and selective enforcement of their own terms of service/forum rules. Which is why a game that previously had a 58 rating suddenly had an influx of perfect ten scores.

If you are banned from the forums, they also ban your game account, preventing you from playing. Forum moderation is selective, ignoring behavior of the more staunch supporters and apologists (who are viciously antagonistic), while all but marking a critical user for death. When one is banned, all access is denied. and the user is ignored. There is no appealing, there isn't even an explanation or notification that you have been banned. If you defend yourself or others from fanboys, and attack them with the same level of vitriol in which they attack others, you WILL be banned.

The game's campaign can be completed in a single day. All that is left is grinding.

It was interesting, but after getting to around level 30 I gradually stopped. I might've rated it a 5, it was still fairly entertaining, but it definitely needed improvements, and improve it has.

I started playing the game again in late November and found that a lot had changed in the scant few months since I stopped playing. As of the time of this review, here is a summary of things that have changed in Marvel Heroes over the year since its release:

Systems Changes - Damage, defense, dodge, enemy AI and abilities, the terminal system, and much more have been overhauled.

New Story and Raids - Chapter 9 has been added and focuses on Norway and Asgard and features Kurse, Loki, and soon, Surtur and his minions (he is the first 10-man raid's final boss).

Heroic and Superheroic - Two new difficulties were implemented, scaling enemies and difficulty up so you can progress 1-60 in the story mode.

52 Reviews - A reworking of the launch heroes so their power progression ends at 52 with the Ultimate power, along with other refinements.

Stats Overhaul - New system lets you stack as much of a stat as possible, for example every Strength point gives you +4% Physical Damage, +4% Thrown Object Damage, and 1% Reduced cost for Physical powers.

Synergy - At levels 25 and 50 a hero unlocks their synergies which can be used on all your heroes. (For example, Gambit gives you credit find and rare item find) There is also experience synergy, every hero at level 30 gives 1%, an additional 2% at 50, and an additional 3% at 60 for a total of 5% bonus experience per maxed out hero. You can get up to 200% experience synergy, The first 4 heroes you level to 60 will give you massive boosts, 30%, 20%, 15%, 10%, for a total of 75% from just maxing out 4 characters.

New Item Types - Uniques (items from Marvel lore with set stats), Legendary Items (a new item slot that levels up as you gain experience), Cosmic Items (a step between Epics and Uniques with Cosmic affixes), Relics (a new slot that are random drops that stack up to 1,000 and give stats like + HP, + Defense), Rings (a new gear slot that can also be Cosmic), Uru-Forge/Runes/Runewords (Uru-Forged are like 'socketed' items that you put Runewords onto), Team Insignias (random affixes and flavorful stats, such as Nick Fury's summoning in SHIELD agents when you or teammates using med kits), and lots of new artifacts including ones that only drop off certain bosses, like the Gem of the Kursed from Kurse terminals.

Expanded Inventory - A recent update increased the default inventory space by 20 slots, and gave everyone 30 slots on the Team-Up UI, even if you don't have a Team-Up.

Eternity Splinters - Instead of characters being random drops you can now find Eternity Splinters, roughly every 6-8 minutes. These can be found as 1 splinter, 2 splinters, 5 splinters, or 10 splinters, and supposedly can even stack for a total of 18 or however much it can go to. (You also get these as log-in rewards quite often during events, as well as getting 200 when you go through the story mode for the first time) These can be used to buy any hero in the game at varying costs; a Random Hero box for 175 (can be any hero, even one you own), and specific heroes cost different tiers: 200/400/600 splinters.

Team-Ups - These are similar to mercenaries and can be set into 3 distinct mods: always active, big impact 30s summon, passive benefits with 30s summon.

Legendary Quests - Unlocked at level 20, these give you Odin Marks used to purchase Legendary items and Blessings, which enchant your artifacts. You can go from 20-60 just doing these alone as they give quite a bit of experience and are infinitely repeatable.

Cosmic Terminals - Difficult, level 60 dungeons, have the option to clear the 'trash' mobs for guaranteed Cosmic Chests, which have high chances of dropping Cosmic items.

Challenge Modes - X-Defense (Wave-based mode for up to 5 players), Midtown Patrol (Infinite enemies and bosses every 3 min), Holo-SIm (Wave-based survival for 1-2 players)

One-Shots - Meant to tell a story separate from the main plot, the first one, Wakandan Mines, was recently released with many more to come. These will tackle comic storylines such as the Daredevil Shadowland story.

New Heroes - There have been 13 and counting new characters added to the game, By this time next year at least 13 more will be added.

Future content they are working on includes: 10-man Raids, Endless Dungeons (randomized tilesets), Randomized Terminals (like Maps from PoE/Torchlight), more story content, a free 'expansion' of some sort, the Omega system (Alternate Advancement/Badass Ranks/paragon on steroids), Shared/Daily quests, Achievements, Login Reward system, and much more.

You say the developers act like they wanna communicate, well at least they do. You directly talk to them rather than deal with the same 3-4 hired ppl that answer with pre-written templates.

To be honest anyone that likes these types of games should try it for themselves. The negative reviews look so biased and made up, it amazes me.

Hell the game is f2p, it's supposed to get cash from somewhere, hence the strive to get your money, but that also makes the developers put more effort, rather than charge 40 bucks, get your money and leave you hanging.

Marvel Heroes is a greedy cash grab that doesn't know if it wants to be a WoW-style MMORPG or a Diablo-style ARPG. The search for in-game currency used to buy free characters is mind-numbing, and now has to be split with team up "pets" that offer a microscopic boost to a character's damage, and are better set to a "passive" mode because they can't survive the harder content.

There's many other problems with this game. Lousy optimization, lack of true "endgame content," rushed new character releases, bugs that last for months, character reworks that leave them in a worse place than before, and a loot system that ensures that you will never find good equipment unless you buy boosts that never seem to work right (and also add to the game's "cash grab" feel).

The worst part is the smoke and mirrors created by both the developers and the community. There's an illusion of constant friendly communication from the developers, but that's only as long as you shower them with praise. They cannot handle any sort of criticism (whether it's constructive or not), and will "stealth censor" or outright ban non-believers. This is bolstered by a huge group of "white knight" players who jump down the throat of all critics, just so they can be rewarded with new overpriced costumes and useless "fortune card" gambles.

Marvel needs to realize this game is a serious blow to their brand's reputation, and it needs to strip the license away from these people as soon as possible.

While Marvel Heroes had the potential to be something great, sadly it is nothing more than a cash cow for Gazillion Entertainment. Essentially a very weak clone of Diablo 2 dressed up in Marvel Cosplay.

The game has very little content and pads it out by expecting the player to repeat the content for extra rewards and then buy a new character to repeat the process. Additional zones suffer the same repetitiveness and quickly become dull. There are some positives to the game. The art design is quite good, and the game itself does flow well, when it doesn't feel like you're doing the same thing over and over again. VA work is top notch and the writing of the story mode is well crafted. Unfortunately a lot of this must be juxtaposed against the fact that new content is rarely released and when it is released it is usually a level that is recycled in some way.

This is a free to play game, although it should really be called free to pay. The game uses a carrot-on-a-stick approach, promising special content related items, such as costumes, pets and special in game items that drop with less frequency than a solar eclipse occurs. Many of these items, don't actually drop in game at all, despite Gazillion's claims to the contrary. 90% of the content that emerges from this game involves the Cash Shop in some way. Characters are often worked and re-worked, but only one is given for free. While it is possible to get new characters for free, it is a slow process made slower by using forcing players to use that currency to buy crafting tools, which can drop in the game but rarely do. F2P currency cannot be used to by costumes or pets either. Costumes can be obtained by crafting but it involves re-leveling characters and spending costumes and the aforementioned crafting tools. Producing a random result. In addition to this, Gazillion ties exclusive content to what essentially amounts to "scratch and win" cards, which must be purchased with real money and more often than not, will produce a low end cash shop item which supposedly increases drop rates but never seems to have a noticeable effect.

While many of us are used to these kind of sins being committed by f2p developers, Gazillion takes it to the next level by selling permanent NPC followers that make the game easier. These too can be purchased with f2p currency, but with the same currency that one buys playable characters with. Again, slowing down progress in obtaining content unless money is spent. Unlike playable heroes, these Team-Up characters are never given out for free, but must be purchased, gambled with Fortune Cards or grinded at the expense of PC heroes.

Another sad thing is that this game, being an MMO-type, lacks many of the basic functions one would come to expect from a game like this. There is no secure trading. Items are traded by dropping them on the ground and can't be verified until the trade is complete, and Gazillion of course takes an "At your own risk" policy with this. There is no quest sharing at all, making partying difficult and often not worth one's time. Players can create "Supergroups" which are essentially guilds, but guilds serve no real purpose and there is no benefit to making one beyond the cosmetic features and getting a private channel which is not all that private.

The game also has a huge issue with bugs and glitches being passed down with every patch which are not addressed with any urgency, if at all. Gazillion never patches bug fixes alone and always insist that fixes, often game breaking fixes, will be addressed in the next patch. As of this writing, The Fisk Tower levels can be created with no mobs at all, something that was supposed to be fixed months ago but is still awaiting said fix.

The sad reason that Gazillion gets away with this behavior, aside from slapping the "Marvel" name on to this garbage, is that there is a frothing group of players who are too eager to frivolously and incomprehensibly hand over their money. Those players often demand little from the game and are pleased as punch to spend hours upon hours doing nothing but running the same levels repeatedly for the sake of prestige.

Making matters worse is that Gazillion not only fosters and coddles these players, but also actively silences criticisms of the game and their business model. The Agents who police the community will harass and punish anyone who points out problems with the game and have been known to ban accounts for players who speak their mind on these issues.

In summary, the game is ultimately free to play and there are some good things about it, but they are far outweighed by the problems and by a greedy developer who's community relations can only be described as utterly disingenuous. I cannot at all recommend this game. It is repetitive, quickly becomes dull and everything is designed to trap you into buying stuff from the cash shop and would have failed if not for the "Marvel" name.

Try it if you must, but don't spend any money.

    PROS:
    - Fun ARPG that makes you feel like a bad ass.
    - Gets updated monthly with new heroes/content
    - They rework heroes every so often so there is communication between dev and players.
    - Plenty of Loot and varying systems to help min/max characters.
-Plenty of content (some critics have complained that there isn't enough, but if you enjoyed D2 there is WAY more than enough content to enjoy)
    - Terminals (mini instances of previous levels with varying difficulties)
    - Challenges (Horde like modes where you clear wave after wave)
    - Story ( It's similar to diablo - three difficulties)
    - (upcoming) they will be adding raid type instances that require groups of 10 to complete.

    CONS:
    - They only give you a couple of heroes to pick from to start, so if you don't like any of them it may take awhile before you earn enough ES(Eternity Splinters) to buy another champ for free.
-I'd say the grind for ES is similar to games like LOL with about 20-30hrs of playing to obtain another a hero.
    - You only get one stash to start out with and you get ALOT of loot so you'll most likely need to purchase another.

All in all if you're a fan of Marvel and you're looking for a fun ARPG to play then I'd highly recommend it.

At the time, I was working at a well-known consulting firm, and I was in contact with Gazillion's, David Brevik, and I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to know more about the company, and their soon to be launched, Marvel Heroes game. I decided to make a $199 purchase in the "Ultimate Founders Pack", which included all initial characters, costumes, a few pending Characters, and much more.

Those who purchased any of the 'Founders Packs' were entitled to early game access , unfortunately, their time was cut short, due to issues with the game's launch, which put the server offline for a few days. Gazillion Entertainment dropped the ball...there's not an easy way to put it; they failed to meet the consumer expectations, which, unfortunately, was not a good first impression. Even though the expectation went unmet, I was generously given in-game credit ( a lot, I might add) for the inconvenience.

I decided to write this comment because I felt that the current "Metascore" (58) doesn't seem like a fair score... I would say it would be more like average score of 70/100. (I gave it a 10)

I don't represent Gazillion. In fact, I never ended up doing business with them. But my experience playing Marvel Heroes has been positive thus far.

For those of you who have played this game, I have Eight level 60 characters (some with Legendary lvl 5's), and a whole lot of 30, 40, and 50's. I have over 700 hours documented on Steam (I don't know how accurate that is). I also purchased the Deluxe Advanced package, which was another $129, which includes another set of characters, and in-game items.

Like any MMO, you get to a point that it just becomes repetitive, and you keep playing to get better loot. You can get through the entire storyline of Marvel by level 25-30, or so, and then you can increase the difficulty. Aren't most games like that anyway? The only negative experience that I have would be the PVP area... What a great way to teach humility.. it's a great place to learn that your character was not as tough as you thought he/she was.

The good thing is, they are constantly adding new content to the game, and are ALWAYS giving free stuff away. YES, you can play the entire game for free and have a chance to play any character you want at no cost to you. For the anti-Capitalists out there, I'm sorry, but It DOES cost in-game currency to have cheese with your wine. Gazillion is a business and they need to make money. It's nice to know that they are contracted with Marvel for 10 years, so I don't think they are going anywhere anytime soon! Gazillion hasn't been perfect, but feel they act on the feedback they've been given by the fan base.

Been spending time with this game and I am leaning towards to quit mode because Gazillion keeps on adding new content and leaving the old content with lots and lots of problems. They have this level 52 rework for heroes however it will take ages or years of waiting before your favorite hero gets the rework needed, there is one hero though that they reworked but it came out of the frying pan into the fire. I honestly do not know where this game is heading and it is a big disappointment that they are carrying comic's heavy name into a laughing stock. Marvel Heroes has a great concept but lacks the TLC for its heroes and content. Expand

The love of all things Marvel kept me playing for over 1000+ hours, but eventually they just homogenized every hero into playing like the same cookie-cutter character to expedite pushing out a new character every month (conveniently timed with their respective Marvel movies of course). Because of that move, Hulk didn't feel like he was the strongest one "there is" anymore, and Daredevil couldn't dodge anything (they changed dodge from complete evasion to negating 50% of damage). Because of the loss of that individuality, it seems to me that it would alienate anyone who is a fan. But if you can overlook those things and a lack of content, you might have fun. It's free after all! Expand

It's a fun enough ARPG. It doesn't have a lot of content. You'll replay the entire game with each character about 3 times (3 difficulty levels, but the same levels) or do a lot some arena style grinding. _PROs_: It IS free to play. You can unlock other heroes and add sidekicks through in game rewards ('splinters'). Every month or so it seems like they have a free hero code they give out. It's a fun enough ARPG. You can unlock other heroes and add sidekicks through in game rewards ('splinters'). Every month or so it seems like they have a free hero code they give out. The game looks nice, and plays well.

The CONS: 1)) You get 1 time splinter gifts to your account, but after that it is a GRIND to get more. An active player (dropping many foes) gets one about every 6-8 minutes. So it takes about 30 hours of gameplay for the 200 splinters to afford the lowest end heroes. More popular heroes cost 400 or 600. You can buy a random hero for 175, which most ppl do, but they are weighed to the low end heroes, and you can get useless duplicates. Really, really frustrating, but the alternative is too expensive.

CON 2)) Almost every hero plays the same. Hawkeye, Storm and Cyclops have strong punch attacks that ppl often use in their skill configs. Everyone has some kind of Charge / rush attack, melee, range attack, buff and DoT (damage over time). It just takes the fun out of playing a new hero, when Cyclops is beating up bad guys with his fists just like Hulk, Thing and Thor. The mobs have the same problem; armored robots, demons and common street punks are just as easy to drop.

Other cons - the dialog is 70's era cheesy, unlike the movies and comics of today. In large fights, it's hard to see past other player's graphic power effects or all the trash loot carpeting the play area. There are tons of collectibles in game that have no use, and there's limited space to put them - UNLESS you want to start spending money on quality of life enhancements to the game. Also, there is no ingame trading, which makes sense for Gazillion because then you wouldn't have to pay for items you could trade for.

So - if you play for a long time, you'll basically be grinding in the same game over and over, trying to get more interesting heroes, deciding whether is worth paying (like so many ppl do) $100's of dollars to unlock vanity stuff like a few costumes, and struggling with a bizarre, awkward crafting system and little storage space.

Game designers absolutely deserve to have a business model that encourages you to pay for stuff you want, and there's a LOT to pay for. And it's expensive. I'd advise you to try the game, but promise yourself not to spend anything until you are sure you want to keep playing for a long time, then maybe give yourself a reward if you still like the game.

Sure, there's "free" stuff if you expect to play hundreds and hundreds of hours of it, which by the time you make into it, you'll already feel forced to buy into their overpriced storages. $20 for a costume? $5 for a single storage tab? $6 for a companion? $15 for a pet? Under-delivers on the promise of the licence. A middling action-RPG that you’d have to be a Marvel fan to love.

At the end of the day, though, these few good points don’t make up for the flaws with what should be the most important elements of a game like this - the combat and the loot grind - and an overall lack of polish. Being free to play, you don’t lose out on anything but 15 odd gigabytes of your data cap if you want to give Marvel Heroes a go, but with that said, it’s hard to recommend this game over the other free to play lootfests that are around.
