Let's start off by comparing it not to it's predecessor, but to the current state of other MMOs close to the same genre. Free to Play MMOs in their current state are not geared to look this cutesy and form a more anime or realistic art style that come from various backgrounds and different schoolyards that don't pertain to the anime chibi art style. Sure, the rudimentary qualities and game play brought on by any of the many MMOs is similar, but this aims to bring them all together in one place. It may seem to be overachieving in every aspect, but in some sense, it does accomplish a basic goal needed to be met by every single player.
Socially the game is completely in a swirl of wonderful and at the same time just as toxic as it was back in Maplestory's heyday. It encompasses everything about the original game that you find solace in meeting each other on a local level (or on a world/channel based level if you're willing to pay for it). Cause a true mapler's goal is to make it face to face, side by side in the armaments of combat, PvP or PvE.
Now combat itself in Maplestory 2 is another feat that was somewhat reminiscent of the old play style of Maplestory with the added variable of 3D complexity. Proximity and repetition is the normalcy of any role playing game out there today, the boss battles are fun socially and combatant wise and dungeon clearing are beautifully made, granted the bots and cheese dungeon clears need to be removed. The quests for Maplestory 2 seem a little rudimentary and very taxing at times, but the storyline helps to move you along to set you up for the bigger goal that's headed our way in the game's patches to come. The fun part of game play comes in the fact that not every way to earn points for leveling and powering up your character to be stronger in combat comes from just the standard point of clearing mobs, or completing quests. It can even tie back into the next aspect of this games strong points of social proficiency.
Whether it be fishing, composing music, or life skills, these multiple aspects of the non-combatant side of the game are just as grinding as the combat and quest side of the game. These social skills allow you to grind just as much as combat, with the idea of perfecting it to reap the rewards of helping yourself in the long run as a combatant. Many of the items and aspects of the game can be improved if you take the time to level these up as well.
Finally, the saddest part about Maplestory 2, endgame content. The end of the game in it's current state is just the beginning, as this game has only been out for a little over a month, the game will seek to revitalize itself in the years to come as more content will be released as time progresses, we're only hitting the ground floor of the 1st boss dungeon. This is the baseline and the competitors and combatants of today don't realize, that this game has yet to hit it's peak.
Overall, this game is an awesome game for setting the foundation of what the MMO has to offer in the years to come.… Expand
