Mage's Initiation: Reign of the Elements is recommended for those hankering for a game similar to Quest for Glory: A Sierra-style point 'n' click adventure with RPG elements. Sure, the game suffers from many pitfalls that were commonplace in old Sierra adventure games, the player character's voice acting isn't always the best and I'm not a fan of the cutscenes either, but overall this is aMage's Initiation: Reign of the Elements is recommended for those hankering for a game similar to Quest for Glory: A Sierra-style point 'n' click adventure with RPG elements. Sure, the game suffers from many pitfalls that were commonplace in old Sierra adventure games, the player character's voice acting isn't always the best and I'm not a fan of the cutscenes either, but overall this is a game I found addictive and ultimately worthwhile: convincing characters, gorgeous artwork, a strong voice cast, logical puzzles and excellent replay value means this is a game I'll likely come back to again and again. This game is for any fan of old school Sierra adventure games especially from the Quest for Glory series. Frankly - there is just not enough of this style of game out there. While this game is not perfect in every way - it is a great homage to the quest for glory games and will satisfy any itch for that style of gameplay. Highly recommend.

Mage’s Initiation: Reign of the Elements is a well put-together adventure title. The game (like its hero) has issues, but its charms more often than not make up for them.

While the combative elements leave much to be desired, Mage's Initiation to pay tribute to the old Sierra titles of yore without failing to craft an identity of its own alongside the homage. D'arc's initiation is almost too simple for its own good, serving as a prologue of sorts to a grander adventure, yet so much focus placed solely on a single story beat is exactly what allows the narrative to lend impact to any given moment. The plot itself may never get too exciting, but active world building, endearing visuals, and focused puzzles ensure that in Mage's Initiation: Reign of the Elements there is seldom a dull moment in D'arc's journey.

Mage’s Initiation might suffer from aiming itself at nostalgic fans of a bygone era of gaming, but when someone new stumbles on it, they’ll have themselves a good time…as long as they avoid forests.
