    I haven't played this one in 10 years and decided to refresh my memory... what a good trip this was! Mafia is still a classic, that deserves a remaster/remake with better controls and graphics. Although some missions are annoying as hell and the controls leave a lot to be desired, I recommend this game for its amazing atmosphere, great characters and story. Pickens approves!

    Foreword: I've wanted to play this game for a long time. I remember how I came across the second Mafia, I liked it by itself (I could not get through it because I was a weak PC, and in the end I just hammered the bolt) and it became interesting to me to see where the roots are coming from. It was about 2017-2018 year, I went to YouTube and watched the game of the first Mafia. It seemed to me quite good and I realized that the passage of this game would not pass me by.

    Gameplay: Hardcore as it is, sometimes it was annoying in the missions the protracted complexity of the game. The most striking example is the survivability of opponents - 6 bullets point-blank from a police revolver and the enemy continues to stand on his feet and fires back. If it seemed to you ordinary, then how do you like 3 bullets in the head from the above-named barrel and the same thing! It was also very enraged by the mission where Polly was jammed by Thompson and because of this you had to quickly get away in the car. Do you think it's as easy as in some GTA? - NO! Enemies literally stick to you, turn you around, calmly go around all sorts of obstacles such as suddenly leaving cars or objects such as flower beds, poles, etc.

    Plot: There can be no questions at all, this is the only game that I perceived as a film. I cannot compare this game with the plot to other games, since you are facing a very realistic, logical, dramatic and incredibly interesting story about crime, friendship, love of the 30s. with your twists and chips.

    Characters: I can only say one thing - there are no extra characters, everyone has their own behavior, their own manner, their feelings, and so on.

    Game world: The city of Lost Haven appears before you (the prototype is a mixture of cities such as New York, Chicago.) Here I was very pleased with adequate traffic without any chaos on the roads. I also really liked the trick with fines for driving on red, speeding. A variety of cars, weapons.

    Bottom line: I liked the game, but not so much that I admired it, it is still outdated for our days, no matter how we would like it ... I myself am a lover of 3D games of the early 2000s with an open world, but in order to just play comfortably in normal aspect ratio, with normal drawing and resolution, I was forced to download plugins from the Internet.     People praise this game a bit too much, no, this is not a 10/10.
    The gameplay is **** horrible, i remember being one of the people who defended the gameplay but after replaying it i have to say it was just a big pain in the ass for me. Insane amount of bugs, had to replay 10 min long parts of missions just because this game decided it'd bug the heck out. The dodge roll system is laughable, you try to roll and you get showered with bullets.
    The driving is so bad that i want to bang my head on the wall, i remember failing so many missions because i just randomly hit a curb that sent me flying or even made me die instantly for no reason even when i was driving at 20 mph (i ride my bicycle at that pace). The shooting from car is broken, you just can't kill the enemies that way, you don't even know if they're getting damaged or not, they don't cry, no blood falls out, you just keep shooting hoping they die once. It takes so many shots to kill someone that you just wonder what the heck is it that they eat/are wearing or if you're using nerf guns. Oh yeah, SO MUCH DRIVING, I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE SO MUCH, IT'S A PAIN IN MY GODDAMN ASS. The driving is not fun and they force you to drive so much, what is this, taxi driver?

    The voice acting is 5-6/10, it feels sometimes like they're just reading it off the script, i feel like the script is so good that the voice actors just had to read it to make the story feel great. Good lord was the story good, the script could've used some polishing but you can just feel the amount of love the writer had, the feelings he wanted to convey, the story he wanted to tell. The only reason im giving this an 8 and not a 3, the story made me want to finish this god awful game. Trust me, if there's any reason to play this game, it's the story. I still feel like Mafia 2 has a better story but nevertheless, this is still beautiful, some polishing and a stellar cast would've made a terrific film.

    The gunshots sound pretty powerful so plus points for that, the soundtrack was pretty cool actually but got repetitive. The main theme tho, when it started playing near the ending, ughh i just lost control.

    Side rant : to the people that say "oh this game is from 2002 what do you expect from the gameplay?" I played Half-Life, Max Payne, Diablo, Age of Empires 1 and 2, Hitman 1 and 2 (the og), Fallout 1 and 2 and most notably, GTA 3, all of them were amazing but gta 3, good lord was it good, i experienced no bugs, had a crazy amount of fun and just could not stop smiling and thinking about this game, so no, i won't go easy on this game because it's from 2002, if it is actually good it will stand the test of time. I wouldn't have minded the graphics if the gameplay was good buuut it wasn't so another thing to complain about, something about it just feels bland, compared to gta 3. IMO hitman 2 looked miles better and GTA 3 as well, let's not talk about the beauty that was Metal Gear Solid 2..... haha so you get the picture, it is old but that doesn't mean games weren't smashing good back then, it's just an excuse for bad game design.
    They were ambitious but made a **** game with an amazing story, I felt awesome reliving this story but wanted to end myself when playing the game itself, hope whoever reads this doesn't feel the same way about the gameplay as i did and has a blast like others did. If you don't want to play the game at least watch walkthroughs/just check the story out, you'll love it trust me    … Expand

И так же копы, обращают внимание только на вашу стрельбу или аварию.     This game is definitely the best game i have played in years more eloquent and stylish than GTA/GTA Vice City but it has a host of stability issues it crashes occasionally on my GeForce 440Mx system...maybe it has some incompatibility issues....

    A decent game that could have been much better. First of all if I'd wanted a driving game I would have bought one. Secondly, I couldn't complete one mission due to the moronic AI of a companion - had to cheat in the end. There were other minor bugs. More positively, the story is good and the game keeps you interested (when not driving constantly) and I did start to care about my character.A decent game that could have been much better.     What a great game! An almost perfect game which is funny to play, but it also has a very good plot, very good graphics and excellent sound. Games like this will never be made again.

    The biggest gripe I had with it? Lack of open-world/sandbox. It's actually a very controlled environment and there isn't much else to do between missions outside of breaking laws, driving like a maniac, and ending on a standoff with the police. With such a vast area, it felt so... boring and empty beyond the missions.

    Next biggest gripe would be that it is buggy at times with lots of graphics and physics errors as well as objects and sometimes even people getting stuck in the environment. Sometimes the AI would bug out too.

    Cars, while understandably made to be realistic, were annoying to maneuver particularly during car chase scenes. The lack of driving guidance/GPS also bugged me, though I guess that was part of the whole realism factor they were going for.

    Graphics, while great for it's time, did not perform any better on my high-end gaming rig than on my mid-level one, which was frustrating.

    Overrated, wouldn't really recommend it unless it's cheap.    … Expand

So mafia is a good game and we should try it to experince something new and different from other games atleast when we play it we don't feel like this game is trying to copy gta

    Too bad that the limiter was only with the fixed speed at 60, there are no variants at 30 or 80.

    One of the biggest drawbacks in my opinion is that the AI of the allied NPCs is not at the top.
    Especially since you are accompanied on almost all missions.
    In many cases, missions fail more through their fault than the player's fault.    … Expand

    The missions are fun, but as a GTA knock-off it leaves a lot to be desired. Many aspects of the game are pretty frustrating, and I'm not sure how everyone else has overlooked the fact that it's extremely buggy.

    A neat premise is ruined by a moronic leveling system, cardbord characters, a cliched story, and bland environments. I had some fun with it, granted, but it was not what it claimed to be, and was simply mediocre.

The car models are beautiful and like the Four Fat Chicks say, the game just "oozes class". But that's where the toasting ends and the roasting begins. The overarching issue with Mafia is that its just...Mafia is an uncut diamond. The car models are beautiful and like the Four Fat Chicks say, the game just "oozes class". But that's where the toasting ends and the roasting begins. The overarching issue with Mafia is that its just... well... UNFINISHED. Driving around an open-world New York city circa 1933-1935, I was struck by how empty it felt. The city is bare, repetitive and mostly non-functional. Unlike Grand Theft Auto (especially GTA 4 and San Andreas), there's very very little to see and even less to do. Bugs and glitches abound, ranging from popping textures to screen tearing to getting your car stuck in the scenery constantly. While they're well done, the same 3-4 driving tracks that play over and over will have you gouging at your ears long before the game is over. A secondary (but still crucial) complaint is vehicle handling. Since you spend roughly 50% of the campaign behind the wheel of a car, its important that vehicle physics be spot-on. Or at least manageable. They are neither. Cars are so underpowered that they just barely sputter up a small hill but it's also incredibly easy to earn speeding tickets. All but the best 3-4 vehicles are floaty and a complete displeasure to operate. On many occasions I found myself skidding (or spinning, flipping, crashing, take your pick) wildly out of control from the slightest steering adjustment while the police pursuing me drive in such a way that the laws of physics seem to bend to their will. Mafia is very good at what it does right but unfortunately it's only 3/4 of a game that feels like the lofty goals of its developers got cut off at the knees in order to make a deadline.     - Leider gewinnen die Frustmomente in vielen Situationen die Oberhand. Retry nach retry nach retry. In jeder Mission gibt es irgendeinen Bug oder Unzulänglichkeit.

    je tiens a vous dire que j'ai joué a ce jeu à l'époque j'avais même pas un compte Steam très nostalgique pour les nouveaux joueur Dur d'y rejouer aujourd'hui. n'attendes pas à grand-chose car le jeu et vieux comme tout anciens jeux bourrés de bug les missions sont données à l'opposé de la carte, vous devez donc conduire tout le chemin aller-retour.

    Le gameplay est méga rigide. Un    je tiens a vous dire que j'ai joué a ce jeu à l'époque j'avais même pas un compte Steam très nostalgique pour les nouveaux joueur Dur d'y rejouer aujourd'hui. n'attendes pas à grand-chose car le jeu et vieux comme tout anciens jeux bourrés de bug les missions sont données à l'opposé de la carte, vous devez donc conduire tout le chemin aller-retour.

    If you enjoy watching paint dry, this is the game for you!!!! (I will re-review if it gets better, but I'm overcome by the lack of FUN or excitement that this game offers)... Has not aged well at all!!!

    the shooting is another ****ty thing: in the first section in which you have to shoot, the game gives you 18 bullets and you have to deal with 3 guys and a dog while you manage not to get shot and the guys needs at least 5 shots to die

    this last thing, having fun, is the most important piece of a video game
    Bethesda's games, that are totally garbage (except for Morrowind) and cash grab are fun, that's why they sold well and that's why people buy them
    but Mafia is NOT fun

    The story seems interesting, but the game is just too damn boring. Maybe if the driving was a little more exciting, it wouldn't be so bad, but this is set in the 30s and the developers really want you to feel like you're in that time period, so    The opposite of fun. I usually always finish a game, but I had to give up. That racing car mission was a nightmare, and that church level? Despite the hilarious bugs of seeing a fat guy crawling through the air, it was simply terrible. It's not that I don't enjoy a challenge, it's that I can't stand having to do the same thing thirty-odd times because of poor game design.

    And people still jump at the chance to praise the story, and all I can say is... what story? It's just a load of stereotypical, annoying and generic 'gangster'-style missions and scenarios strung together by some pretty poor voice acting.

    This game is nothing short of a total pain that hasn't aged well at all. But thankfully, the sequel fixes many of these problems and is a very enjoyable game. I'd recommend Mafia II, but this one? I'd avoid.    … Expand

    no i dont need map marks i understand that its an old game and 2002 year didnt have this trand but in other old games devs guide you through good narrative and level design
    billions of illogical moments like cops dont give a f*ck about anything except your actions
    the game has really good details that were breakthrough in 2002 like sleeves and gun magazines on the ground but all theese details mean nothing when u dont have an openworld
    yes formally u do have openworld but actually not, it performs the role of decoration between activity points in missions
    u can start freeride mode but its nothing to do in it
    that is the definition of the game - boring and imbalanced
    some people say it has great gameplay, story, characters, atmosphere and music

    gameplay is nothing special
    story is good but the way of its presentation ruins everything
    atmosphere - what? atmosphere is something that dont depens on technologies and gense, just install mafia 2, fable, beholder, TES, stalker and u will see what the atmosphere really is
    characers are untold
    music as a part of atmosphere gives nothing except annoying screaming track while shooting that makes u tired of it because of infinite reloads of the missions
    i even tried installing trainer in order to compensate imbalance and just enjoy the story but it seems that the game was programmed by some kind of dumbs because in some incomprehensible way it breaks mission scripts, makes ordinar npc immortal and even makes your teammate shoot you, i have played dozens of old games with hundreds of mods an no one except this one provided such a stupid errors

    its is nonsense for me because i know a lot of much betted old games with lower rates

    It was quite difficult, but I didn't give up, sometimes it's enjoyable, I definitely don't recommend it in 2022. I couldn't progress on mission 19 because it's buggy.

    Pretty good tutorial, but that's about it. The AI likes to get hit by cars making you lose the level. The cars are extremely slow and even struggle to get up bridges and if you damage the car enough forget about driving up the bridge, you're walking. Shame, because most of the missions involve driving.

    This game sucks. Physics dont work and the every character in this game is dumb as hell, especially main protagonist. This whole game just fells like some alpha test.

    Sorry but tons of users cant get this game to work, myself included.. Huge driver problems with XP, and Soundblasters. Blame who you will but no patch, and no patches planned... Buggy.

    This really sucks. I have xp and my graphcs are horrible. I can see through walls and i can only see the wheels on the cars. what is dis. how i fix dis shiot.

    Awful game. Getting pulled over for speeding at 40mph is just irritating as hell. A lot of missions are impossible because you die way too easily and you don't have enough ammo. This game was just a god awful experience and I quit playing it after a few missions. Just terrible all around.

    Godfather is a sandbox/GTA type game. This is like riding a car on the rails. Sure you can drive anywhere, but there's nothing really to do, plus the driving itself is about as awful as it gets. If they get you arrested, the game is over and you have to load from a checkpoint (and then you have to drive AGAIN THAT SAME ROUTE). There are no quick saves and there are few checkpoints per mission. Missions are annoying to complish and slow tempo. The only thing that is good, is some parts of the story. This unrealistic, annoying piece of s*it was waste of 5 euros. Yes, even L.A. Noire is hundreds of times better than this.… Expand

    Terribly overrated game. Except for the graphics,there's nothing good with this one. Repetitive driving, few checkpoints which make play annoying as hell. I'd advise you to stay away.

    Gameplay however is terrible. At first missions we do boring taxi job and it takes too long to actually get to the action. Car handling is average, it is not that fun to drive cars.     Doesn't show you know where to go. Slowest cars I've ever seen. I spent more time trying to find the excat spot to stop those "bikes" (yes that's right. cars are powered by padels judging by speed) to reach or to advance the story. I never had any problems playing Mafia 2 so I see why this is interier. And it is way interier than GTA. 5 missions into Mafia and I'm still frustriated.

    I am 16 years old. It's been 9 years since I first played this game on socket 462. This is still my favorite game, a true masterpiece.

    Отвратительнейшая игра. Обожаю классику, но Мафию почему-то обходил стороной. Решил восполнить пробел и очень зря. В игре ужасно все: механики, скрипты, сама структура миссий, и ужасно это даже со скидкой на возраст игры. Потратил на эту дрянь вечер, и даже этого времени мне жалко. Единственный плюс - это сюжет, чем Мафия всегда славилась, однако лучше посмотреть прохождение, в которомОтвратительнейшая игра. Обожаю классику, но Мафию почему-то обходил стороной. Решил восполнить пробел и очень зря. В игре ужасно все: механики, скрипты, сама структура миссий, и ужасно это даже со скидкой на возраст игры.
