    This Is excellent single player game with great story and interesting characters but this game has many technical issues that do take away a lot from enjoyment of playing this game. I’ve encountered problems like cashes to desktop, green cars without textures, some cutscenes with weird looking characters and few others. The story is good, characters are very likable, audio and voiceovers (Joe Barbaro voiceover is superb) are really well done, graphics are decent for 10 year old game, fighting and shooting is fun. I enjoyed Mafia 2 better than Mafia 1 Definite Edition. This could easily be 8 - 9 out of 10 type of game but there are too many technical issues. I will still recommend this game but be prepared to be frustrated with glitches.… Expand

    What really great from this game is the story, you follow Vito, a war veteran, who wants to be part of mafia himself, the game had good character development and if you like mafia series, you probaly like the stories. However, the story is somewhat short.
    The game is set in empire bay, but not a true open world because the game follows a linear path and if you want to explore the city, you gonna have to use the "free roam" mode, but the game doesn't really use the world full potential as all you do in free roam just finding some playboy magazines so the game had almost no replay value.
    But if you really like mafia story, this game is this give a really good story.    … Expand

    Pretty good game but it's kinda short, when you compere it to original game from 2002. There is now a defenitive edition, but if you played this game before I don't recomend buying it again to get some minor dlc that came with Mafia Definitive Trilogy.

Only this time, in the middle of the development, Illusion Softworks was acquired by Take-Two Interactive. That led to some internal disagreements and the departure of Daniel Vavra, the mastermind behind the original Mafia. And it shows. TheMafia II is the second installment in the action-adventure series Mafia. This game was developed by Illusion Softworks, same as the original Mafia. Only this time, in the middle of the development, Illusion Softworks was acquired by Take-Two Interactive. That led to some internal disagreements and the departure of Daniel Vavra, the mastermind behind the original Mafia. And it shows. The game was released somewhat hastily, with quite a lot of secondary content being cut. What remained is still very good, mind you. The story is interesting, the graphics is very nice for 2010 and it has aged well. Gameplay is very linear similar to the original Mafia. The story is set in a 1940s/50s West Coast city Empire Bay. Mafia II features about 30 well made historically accurate cars (with changed names) and about a hundred or so of songs, that will really take you back in time. That thick atmosphere, that is what Mafia games always excel at. The game also allows you to collect vintage Playboy magazines centerfolds (though mostly from 1960s), which will show you how beautiful and natural women used to be. My main problem with this game is its length, the game really skips from mission to mission without really giving you any excuse to go explore the city. This game was released pretty polished without major bugs, which cannot be said about its definite edition, but that does not belong here. There are some minor microtransactions present in the form of "cosmetic DLCs". No SJW in Mafia II.

    This game is very good, great in fact, but somehow I cannot get rid of the idea that it could have been even better if the studio was not sold to the highest bidder. Final Verdict: 92 %    … Expand

    I finished the game for the forth time and I think it's still the best I've ever played. Story, on top of all is really great.
    Shortness of game is not a big deal if it keeps you interested after playing for several times. It never gets boring.
    i really wished to see more sequels to Vito Scaletta's story. Characters look so realistic and alive. And this is what a Mafia game needs.    I finished the game for the forth time and I think it's still the best I've ever played. Story, on top of all is really great.

    1 puanı kırmanın Mafia 3'ün rezil çıkmasından, sonun belirsiz olmasından ve bazı yerlerde sanki nasıl desem ki oyun sanki tamamlanmadan apar topar çıkmış gibi. Çıkmış olan dlc'ler sanki oyunun bir parçasıymışta sonra bizden para kopartılmak için çıkmış. Bu kadar kötü neden saymama rağmen 9 puan alan bu oyuna bence bir bakın :)

Но Мафия 2 также имеет хороший экшен, где приключение и свободный мир создают идеальную смесь геймплея вместе с быстрой стрельбой и реализмом последовательности вождения. Всем советую пройти эту игру хотя бы один раз.Мафия 2 имеет хороший сюжет, грубый, жестокий и с прекрасным повествованием.     Для игры 2010 года, это безумие, сюжет очень кайфовый, хоть и концовка спорная, но мне все понравилось, даже не знаю зачем обновлённая версия для этой игры, графон там на уровне и так

    One of the only games I’ve ever REplayed more than once. This game is dressed with an inexplicable charm only achieved by a studio with all teams working towards the same goal. The lack of free roam is an issue at the forefront, but with a story as well thought out and executed as this, it’s forgivable. Lesser games without an enchanting story would have been hurt far more than Mafia IIOne of the only games I’ve ever REplayed more than once. This game is dressed with an inexplicable charm only achieved by a studio with all teams working towards the same goal. The lack of free roam is an issue at the forefront, but with a story as well thought out and executed as this, it’s forgivable. Lesser games without an enchanting story would have been hurt far more than Mafia II (-1). There’s some minor bugs - none of them crippling. They hinder the experience more so than the gameplay (-1).     I liked it and it started on the right foot but as chapters were changing, I did not see anything real happen until like more than half into the game...
    Some missions were really boring and to add the cops I mentioned before....
    The gas stamps mission for an example... Not only there are no checkpoints, there is a time limit and every time I get chased by them I have to restart to do it right...
    The game`s story was not immersive enough and it ended rather quickly...
    At the end I was like : Is that it ???
    Not even free roaming ??? WTF Why was that even added ???
    A lot of people were trashing Mafia 3 but that game had a lot improved...
    If I compare a similar game, The Godfather 2, I would recommend that instead of Mafia 2...
    The atmosphere was captured well (culture, music, cars, society...)
    M 2 is a solid game but not enough for me to remember it and replay it...    … Expand

    It was an.. interesting experience. Imagine a sea that is 1 meters deep. That is Mafia 2. It has a promising start but it leaves you staring blandly.

    Many are complaining about how linear the game was. For me, i felt glad that they took the linear route. You cant craft a good narrative driven story without making it linear. This isnt a RPG. The narrative was brilliant except some minor issues during certain sections. Mafia 1 did had a slightly better story but Mafia 2 has far more detailed environments. If you liked Mafia 1, mostMany are complaining about how linear the game was. For me, i felt glad that they took the linear route.     The game has an excellent story, in addition to the cars and great classic blues music of the 50s. Although there are no side missions, graphics are outdated and the direction of the vehicles is a little difficult, it is worth the purchase. It's like an interactive movie and a mix of GTA and LA Noire.

    Excellent story, great characters, cool physics of cars. Well-conveyed atmosphere of 40-50s.amazing retro music. but the plot of the game is quite short and DLC are just disgusting 8/10 from me went through this game 2 times and got a lot of fun.

    Любовь моя привязана конечно к персонажам и истории, но так же можно отметить такие плюсы как: приятная физика стрельба, приятная физика автомобилей, очень неплохая графика, в некоторых моментах она просто великолепна, так же неплох окружающий мир,    Хочу признаться в любви к этой игре, она потрясающая.
    Даже сейчас, 10 лет спустя после ее выхода, я хочу возвращаться туда снова и снова.
    Любовь моя привязана конечно к персонажам и истории, но так же можно отметить такие плюсы как: приятная физика стрельба, приятная физика автомобилей, очень неплохая графика, в некоторых моментах она просто великолепна, так же неплох окружающий мир, люди не совсем схожи на пластиковых кукол, они живые, с ними можно контакртировать, плюс их разнообразие вполне себе имеет место быть, так же стоит отметить ближний бой, для такого жанра он крутой, даже очень.
    Минусы конечно тоже есть. Очень расстроил тот факт, что из игры очень много чего вырезали, возможно из за недостатка бюджета и времени, это было очевидно даже до просмотра роликов про это, к примеру вырезали доп. задания у Майка Бруски или у Дерека, еще во время первого прохождения году в 2011 я заметил что изначально игра предполагала существование этих доп заданий но в итоге ничего не было, обидно. В принципе из за этого вырезанного контента игра слаба в песочницу, делать в этом мире ккроме как проходить сюжет практически нечего, а сюдя по скрытым файлам и комментариям разработчиков изучения и нахождение в этом городе могло быть намного интереснее. В принципе для меня это главный минус, поэтому 8 а не 10.
    О да, еще немного про музыкальное сопровождение. КАКОЕ ЖЕ ОНО АХУЕННОЕ. Боже я просто плачу когда слышу эти саундтреки их кат сцен или в меню игры. Для меня единственным соперником в борьбе саундтреков может выступать World of tanks, там тоже такие мелодии что мурашки по коже бегут.
    Подъитожу. Мафия 2, ты останешься в моем сердце навсегда и буду помнить о тебе всю свою жизнь, в какие бы игры я не играл. очень рад что таких как я не мало, судя по оценке, удивляюсь словам в каком нибудь видосе про хейт в ее сторону, где он? Оценка 8.1, какой хейт? Остается только надеяться что четвертая часть сможет хотя бы на километр подобраться к уровни этой игры, хочется верить что провал мафии 3 пойдет студии на заметку и больше они такого поноса не создадут.    … Expand

    Oyun mafya dramını oldukça güzel işliyor. Yani hikaye güzel. Oynanış yönünde çok fazla alternatif yok.
    Aslında 50'lerde geçen bir oyun için oldukça güzel. 2011'in oyunu olmasına rağmen grafikleri hala sırıtmıyor ve orta seviye bir sistemde rahatlıkla oynanabiliyor. Hakkının yendiği bir oyun bence.

    Cool plot, cool character development, quirky driving, quirky shooting, good graphics, cool theme for the game. The police is OBNOXIOUS, especially in the dlcs.
    It's a shame that the game is pretty short too.

    Its a Crime that this piece of art has a 77 Rating, I Never Played a better Story in my whole life. Vitos Life is perfect for this game and there are so many different and extremely interesting parts of the story. This Game is WAY better then GTA 5 when you look at the story. I want to hit the dude who gave it a 70 Rating and plays Destiny or some other complete crapgames.

    I enjoy the 50's era, always found it fascinating, found this game enjoyable and immersive with a good story and voice acting.

    Though not sure why it's open world as all you do is main story missions, go on a lengthy drive where they tell you to go and there are no side quests.     And missions can feel a bit repetitve. Drive a long way, each mission seems to be as far away as possible so you can have a long drive. I like the action and shootouts. Almost everything, the music is great too.

    The game is lacking in any player choice or decision, you just have to do what the mission objective tells you. I did experience a few bugs.

    You can't save when you want, it automatically saves at certain points.

    I give it 7/10 because of the wonderful atmosphere, controls are good, driving smooth and enjoyed playing this game.    … Expand

I made ~ 4000 bucks at Bruski's then I decided to tune my Cossack. Spent all my f***ing money on this. So, I returned to Bruski's for another extremely boooring round of crashing cars. ALL my extremely precious time wasted for nothing, because the idiots from 2K Czech decided to implement the worst save system that exists in the Universe, THE CHECKPOINT, in such an atrocious manner. For this particular kind of idiots, it simply doesn't matter. Your time and your patience. It matters more spreading their stupid faces around Empire Bay in 150 locations.

    It'll take many rotations of Pluto around the Sun until the games developers will jettison such horrible, horrendous, atrocious, despicable save game system, the checkpoint. Your stupid game crashes, the goddamn power outage again, the player wants to pee or poo, the player wants to smoke a cigarette, the player wants to go to bed because it's goddamn 3 o'clock in the morning... the player wants to reload the game from HIS/HER last save, NOT YOURS.
    The player wants to spam the F5 key every 5s (reloading the guns in your stupid 3rd person shooter is the same, IF you didn't notice!!!) because he/she GAVE YOU MONEY. Real ones, from their bank cards, NOT from crashing cars at Bruski's.
    The player wants to play your stupid game in HIS/HER OWN WAY, NOT YOURS.

    PS: Yeah, yeah, spare me about babbling nonsense "the system could be abused". With this kind of "creative" thinking, it'll take very short time until some "brilliant" developer (like yourself) will consider that "reloading the gun after few shots fired" will also "abuse the system".

    It took me 13 hours and 50 mins to complete. I would not replay this game either, because there is no incentive to, as it is a linear mission-based game. It IS a small open city concept game, but there is really nothing to do in the city other than the what the missions have you doing, which is mostly driving.     I went into this game after playing The Godfather game years back. I expected better graphics, which I got, and more similar type of gameplay that I saw from The Godfather. I thought the game was leading me to eventually running the city, controlling business, making money, buying cool stuff, customizing hot rides etc., but instead, the game just ended abruptly.

    I felt there was a story around the father character that was left incomplete, and even around the sister, which both don't receive enough attention.

    Other than driving around from point A to B, spending some time in jail to learn a new fighting technique, stealing a couple of cars to help drive you around quicker, there was little else the game had to offer. There were Playboy magazines that you could collect in the game, but I accidentally that found out 3/4 into the game and couldn't care less. I actually found all the images on YouTube.

    The game was entertaining up until it ended and I found out that I wasn't going to get what I wanted out of it, which was to be my own mob boss and run the town. Customize weapons, cars, clothing and manage businesses to grow my empire.

    I'll pass on Mafia III and hope to see what I've asked for in Mafia IV, if it ever gets created.    … Expand

    Soooo much boring and clunky driving. The open world in this game is not meant to be played around in. It is meant as a back drop and it's a cool back drop that is just utilized tooo much. You are constantly driving point to point. The actual gun fights you get into are limited but fun as you can quickly die if you are not smart about cover. Es uno de los juegos con mejores físicas y detalles que he jugado hasta el día de hoy, detalles como que te llamen la atención por pasarte un semáforo en rojo, ver un matrimonio discutiendo por la calle totalmente a lo RANDOM XD o que te multen por ir deprisa son cosas que no se te van a olvidar en la vida. Y esto sólo son ejemplos :D Eso a la hora de vagar por la ciudad, luego están las misiones principales: tiroteos DE VERDAD, con buen sonido, con buen motor de destrucción y haciendo buen uso de las coberturas; sigilo; camuflajes; seguimiento en coche y persecuciones (por cierto, el sistema de conducción muy realista); salir por patas de una emboscada; peleas de puños con finishers e interacciones con el entorno BRUTALES...jugablemente tiene de sobra para que el juego se nos haga lo suficientemente divertido para poder avanzar en su interesantísima historia.     It's very good that some quests in the game can be played differently and some dialogі can change accordingly. Our character develops along with the story.
    The game has it's downsides and some of them can irritate gamers. For example Mafia 2 is technically an open-world game where you can go almost anywhere. But it do not push you to do anything outside of taking quests of the main story and just ride the city all around. What negative to mention is some really boring quests and missions. Money in the game is not much of use.
    But what disturbed me the most is probably a very bad checkpoint system. If I died I had to replay the whole section right from the beginning. In addition there is some random damage generation, so sometimes I could be fine after being shot multiple times, but sometimes instantly killed from the first shot. So there is some unbalance in the game and some missions are easily beaten, some can frustrate a lot.    … Expand

Para mi, desde el momento en el que ocurre esto deja de ser un juego sobre la mafia, y pasa a ser un simple shooter, con ambientación, sí, pero dejando a un lado lo que realmente debería ser el plato fuerte.

However, it is not the unforgettable experience that I was waiting for. The story line was not as fleshed out as what I hoped for (I played the first Mafia and loved it. I am also a huge fan of the GodfatherMafia II immerses you right away in the 40ies/50ies era. It is a beautiful game that is closer to an action game than a GTA like. Technically it was outstanding for when it came out. However, it is not the unforgettable experience that I was waiting for. The story line was not as fleshed out as what I hoped for (I played the first Mafia and loved it. I am also a huge fan of the Godfather anthology, Scarface, and other mafia classics...)

    My take away is that 2K Czech has done it's best developing the 40ies/50ies atmosphere and story line and I salute their work in doing so. However, this game is really inferior to the older/first Mafia. I hope they will learn from this experience and produce an outstanding Mafia III.

Additionally, the characters are unmemorable, the driving is extremely annoying, the timed mission is frustrating and the character development is more than ridiculous.

    Not a bad game. Pros without a doubt are great story and characters. Really liked the one part where this game connects to it's predecessor. The biggest con for me with this game was lack of additional side quests after completing the main story, which offered little replay incentive. Still recommend giving this game a chance.

    After the disappointment that was Mafia III I decided to replay Mafia II 6 years on from the first time I played it and I had forgotten just how polished it was for the time, and even now it holds up incredibly well.

    The story is great and is pushed along nicely by some incredible voice work and a very capable script.     Gameplay wise it's solid but simple, there's a basic cover system and a fighting mechanic which lets you punch the *bleep* out of your foes, sadly there are no melee weapons though which would have been great. The enemy AI for the most part are very smart and will often cover each other and try to flank you, sometimes they're even a little too quick off the draw as they come flying around a corner and instantly blow your head clean off, this is an area where Mafia II greatly surpasses the much newer Mafia III where enemies seem more than happy to stand around while you butcher their friends. You'll spend a lot of time driving your car and you have the option to play with simulation or arcade controls, personally I preferred arcade. Regardless as to which you pick cars handle well and the driving portion of the game feels more than fine.

    Another huge plus is the audio which is just fantastic, I've already commented on the voice work which is superb but the game also has a massive library of music from the era which really makes long car rides more enjoyable as you tap your foot along to the tunes.

    Visually it's still very nice 6 years later, it completely holds up and honestly looks better than some games that released much later, and you'll have no trouble hitting a solid 60fps on modern hardware as well so gameplay feels smooth and responsive at all times.

    There are a couple of niggles though, one being the lack of unique character models for lesser characters, when you get to a certain part of the game this becomes highly noticeable when everyone of the same race has the exact same model, it's very jarring, I wonder how long it would have taken to add some beards or something just to make them a little different. Another, more annoying issue is the extremely harsh checkpoint system, dying for any reason can mean some lengthy backtracking and it really did frustrate me at times, you can't manually save so you're at the mercy of the game and you're going to die even on medium difficulty so I'm sure most people will experience some frustrating due to this during their first playthrough.

    Overall I highly enjoyed Mafia II (again) and I recommend it to anyone, especially when it's on sale which it regularly is for £4.99. The DLC is not worth it, though.    … Expand

Mafia 2, like its predecessor is a story centered game, the developers deliberately excluded any side activity in order to keep the player focused on the story line. The 3 DLCs added extra content with some repetitive missions but lacked the deep story line from the main campaign.     Mafia II is probably one of the best open-world games that looks like a GTA clone, but once you play, you understand this is a completely different dimension. It isn't as action packed as GTA, but it has that great feel of 40's - the radio stations, Empire Bay, the characters and mafia. The story is very well written and although the game is quite short, I still enjoyed it very much.     The story is great. A very Godfather story of mafia - power struggles, assassinations and betrayal. There are no side quests and I would actual consider this a good thing. This way the story is more focused and does not loose your interest in it. The Empire Bay which looks like New York set in the 1940-50s looks amazing and has great feel to it. The soundtrack additionally sets the mood as well.

    The game mechanics are on point. The driving feels good, shooting and action is both responsive and enjoyable. The array of weapons is good enough to enjoy. And there's nothing better than picking up tommy gun and shooting other mobsters.

    Overall really good experience, wonderful story - really worth picking up.    … Expand

    - Ending is like a joke, feels like an episode's fin.

    I've rebeaten this game a few times and it says everything. You will experience very fun gameplay, you will definitely like both art and soundtrack, and the story will make you addictive. I'm looking forward to play Mafia III and am very hyped about it. If you haven't not played this game yet, I don't know who you are and why you're reading this short review instead of purchasing the game.

    The Plot and setting is awesome, The characters are interesting and so is the city, the gameplay is decent, The graphics are good for a 2010 game, the story is long and again interesting. the world changes from time to time. there is some funny moments and a bit sad moments in this game, for those who have a low-spec pc it might run smoothly.

Yes, there are many different shops and restaurants to go to (hell you can rob them if you want) but there is nothing much to do. The story is the main driving force the ofMafia 2 bills itself as an open-world game. It even has an open-world. But it is not, in fact, an open-world game. A huge negative of this game is besides the story and some of the characters, this game feels lifeless. The game is actually a very linear, story based action adventure, that just happens to be set in an open-world.

    The shooting and melee combat are fine. Nothing to write home and about. They certainly do get stale after a few hours. Don't expect anything great here.

    But don't get me wrong, Mafia 2 has positives. The best part of this game is it's atmosphere. It totally looks and feels like you are in 1940s-1950s. The soundtrack is also top-notch with some great songs from the era (though I do not like how most of the songs were actually from the late 50s, while you are in fact in the early part of the decade for the game). If this game did anything right, it was nailing the that old vibe. Because I really felt I was there, blasting some Dean Martin while blasting some mob thugs. It's too bad that everything is just so barren.

    Vito as a main character is great but he does have a few flaws that detract from the experience. For the sake of spoilers though, I'll just say he goes along with everything ALL the time, which seems dumb. It seems like he really doesn't have a mind of his own. But, I still like him as a character (great voice acting).

    So, the story. Every review I have seen says the story is great, the story is amazing, the reason to get this game is the story (aka the point of the game). So how is the story?

    It's the same old mobster story you have heard a million times.

    I know. I can hear the people yelling at this review now. But seriously, if you have seen The Godfather, Goodfellas or any other mob movie, you have already seen this one. EXCEPT one thing, which is the ending (and again no spoilers). All I will say is the ending of this game floored me. Totally unexpected.

    Do I recommend Mafia 2? It depends. If you are a sucker for the time period or Mafia/Mob games, then I will say Yes, go buy it now. But if you are expecting a true open world experience set in the 1950s (like I was) then I would probably say no. It is not that at all. I would advise the people to look up how much cut-content there was for Mafia 2 because there was a lot. This game was going to have over 180 missions and it definitely does not have that. I beat the game in around 10 hours.

    So Final Breakdown:
    +40s-50s Atmosphere
    +Soundtrack
    +Voice Acting is good
    +Graphics are nice for the time
    +Vito as a main character

    -... even though he has questionable character flaws
    -An open-world that is dry and bare bones as it can get

    Just like the first one, it SUCKS. Developers lied again. This game is not a sandbox because there is nothing to do. You can shoot people and police thats everything you can do and physics are also bad. Main protagonist is stupid and unlikeable just like everyone in this game except for Joe.

    The combination of the ancient control mechanics, odd pacing and lack of real world entertainment drag the game down and seriously decreased my enjoyment of Mafia II. Still, it's worth a playthrough if you just adore mafia games and have a solid PC build to take it on.

    I walked into my experience of Mafia II with no real expectations other than hearing my colleague's praise. What I walked away with after playing through the story was a sense of awe and amazement that I haven't had since Alan Wake.
