This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: Nice graphics and atmosphere. Decent story.

Cons: Puzzles arent really a part of the story. There is no reason putting pictures on the wall according to their correct age makes any sense to why a door will open. Instead of knocking a cupboard open with a hammer you literally have to find bolt cutters to cut something as thin as a paperclip. This rigidity just demonstrates the lack of agency or creativity. You do what the developer wants you to do (and why would someone put a band of metal on a desk drawer handle instead of using a padlock or something…oh right, the developer needed a quick way to throw a puzzle into the game)

Inventory system makes no sense. There are Resident Evil style storage boxes in a game that’s not even survival horror. You are limited to about eight items which causes you to needlessly have to backtrack because the developer wants you to knock tiles loose with a hammer rather than prying them with the crowbar. Again, there is no reason to have the RE style storage boxes. Items just randomly spawn based on progress inside of areas you’ve already visited. No indication that you need to go back to suddenly find a key that wasn’t there before. You might waste 30 minutes mindlessly searching.

Finally there are too many jumpscares. The end of the game turns into Spooky’s House of Jump Scares, literally giving you a random jolt about every three to four minutes. It quickly went from scary to completely pissing me off. Look, the game has a good story and atmosphere, I wont deny that. It’s just too bad horrible puzzles that lead to horrible pacing get in the way. It’s also a six hour game for $35. I don’t feel it was worth the value. I won’t even remember playing this game by the end of the year.

Good Game in general, good envrioment, the puzzles are fine, but some items and things are just inconsistent, need get better in some things but is playable and enjoyble. And in one night you can get your horror dosis.

The game is a decent short game
It tries to be super creepy but tbh it kind of fails, don't get me wrong, it IS creepy, but it tries to hard, you hear creaks all over, which is ok, but then there is the doors sound, even when there is no door moving or even doors nearby, you still hear the noise, it would be more scary if you actually heard it when a door starts to move on its onw

Then you hear a voice calling at you, that IS creepy and was well made

The puzzles are ok, there are some extremely easy, there are some extremely complicated, and there is the fact that most puzzles do not hold your hand, which some might think is good, some not so much, and there is the fact that you get peaces of a puzzle way before you can actually use them, which makes someone that likes to organize and finish stuff that he gets immediately a bit antsy lol

The story is middling, could've been better but does the job, although there are some things that make no sense, but I won't add spoilers here

There are some glitches(mostly graphic) here and there but there are not that many

The ending is kind of underwhelming, it is like a Stephen King movie, where you have a cool development but the ending lets you down

Overall for the around 5hrs you play, it is good

Summary: MADiSON is an astounding success in the horror genre, especially for someone who doesn’t play many horror games (me). The game was well put together and delivered on the spooks, however some puzzles are rough to figure out and could have been a little less obscure.

All in all, MADiSON is a good game but a mediocre horror. I have some serious issues with it, but I can’t dismiss the potential. I believe the next game will be able to compete with Visage, and I’m already waiting for it impatiently.

MADiSON, developed by the Argentine studio Bloodius Games, breaks the mold and gets us into one of the best horror experiences so far this year.
