Madden NFL 21 is a really good game because of amazing graphics, realistic pressure on the line of scrimmage, authentic football player abilities and a lot of customizing if you are only playing a game against CPU with your preferred teams. The biggest weakness is the boring face of the franchise an MUT scrap. Madden 21 is like Madden 20: funny but repetitive.

As many did, I tried this game on the "free weekend" and I was not impressed at all. I played it for about 5hrs or so and quit. Bugs, glitches, occasional lag, and promised features were broken or missing. To me it looked like all EA did was copy Madden 20, and slapped a Madden 21 cover on it. Yeah, what a joke.

Since the initial release, patch updates have fix some things, and new features have been added to franchise mode, but the game is still buggy, glitchy and lags here and there. "Face of the Franchise" is total garbage. The story is so bad, it's laughable. A five year old could have written something better.

Franchise Mode is decent enough, but still needs work. Too many bugs. Not enough options.

The graphics are pretty good, weather effects during games is actually very nice, and the crowds are beginning to actually look like real people. But seriously, I think that's all the game has going for it right now. Graphics and a few odds and ends.

In closing, there have been worse Madden games, but 21 is not as good as it could be, and should have been. I'll play it when I get bored. That's about it. I give it a 4 for effort.

The game actually cheats, which you can test by calling audibles and watching how the game automatically swaps top the best possible defense for the play you just called, then does it again and again. You can watch DB's actually teleport to your QB's pass, clearly 20+ yards in movement in the time it takes your pass to travel 10 yards. The game is bad and EA needs to lose this license. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well what can I say, I am completely disappointed by the turn out of Madded 21. I saw so much potential from many years back, like create a team possibly coming back, or franchise actually letting you design a stadium and uniforms like 2K does in its NBA Series. Might I add that, they are far superior then Electronic Arts when it comes to sports games. EA has completely dropped the ball on this game, just rereleasing Madden 20 with new rosters and one new game mode called The Yard. The yard is sort of a backyard football type of vibe where you play to earn credits. Which in turn you can use to buy gear for your character. When I played a few games, which mind you were not easy, I noticed I would only get a few hundred credits here or there. Now not to worry, because EA has brought in microtransactions to save the day! Making all the clothing that is actually desirable completely out of range for the casual player to actually get anything worth while, EA expects you to pay for Credits which in turn you can use to buy your favorite article of clothing. It's mostly just a Cash Grab for EA, just like the past few years have been with every Madden game released from Madden 13 forward. Another "new" mode, which is just a rebrand career mode, is Face of the Franchise. Face of the Franchise isn't bad, but it honestly just feels rebadged from last year, some of the most crucial parts of your career, like choosing your new position, isnt even voice acted. Now they did try to take a step forward with you continuing your career after the draft. But it has you skipping alot of your games throughout your career. The most I've ever played in one Season is 4 games, two of them against your rival, and then two in the playoffs. Honestly it's just thrown together last minute and isn't really worth picking up if this is the mode you are after.

Ultimate team is again the main focus of the game, mainly because EA wants you to buy packs to improve your team. Trust me when I say this, its exactly like Madden 20, but with new paint splashed around everywhere. They really want you to be in this mode, because they want your money more then your satisfaction, and honestly, after being ignored for years by EA, they dont deserve it.

I'm not going to go into detail about Franchise mode, mainly because it's exactly the same as last year. Nothing has changed in Franchise mode except for the paint scheme.

Gameplay is the same as last year, with some improvements that I can say have taken my frustrations away. Everyone knows about being sacked even though you threw the ball to your receiver. They finally added a throw out of sack animation to the same, and that has relieved alot of frustration from playing the game for me. It's just the first release so there are alot of glitches, as to be expected, but they didnt do alot to fix them in Madden 20, so I dont expect those to go away anytime soon in 21.

Honestly, this game let me down, there was some positive, but alot, and I mean ALOT, of negatives in Madden 21. I'm giving this game a 1 out of 10, because it was just rebadged from Madden 20, 19, 18, 17, yeah you get the picture. I wont be buying another Madden game again. If 2K gets rights to start making NFL Simulation games, you best be sure, I'll be over there trying to get my hands on that copy.

Graphics: I am getting about 50FPS which is really good but not great compared to NBA2k21 where I am getting 64+ fps. Character creation has been the same since 19, the only difference is the hair which isn't great to be honest. but besides that it okay, not good but okay.

Gameplay: This broke my heart the most. Bad decision making within the AI to just weird things happening such as my QB is on the ground and he still was able to pass the ball. Not one Football players stretches their arms out to loss yards so I not sure what that is all about either and it happen to me twice at the first down marker. Defensive adjustments are not adjustment. Only players that seem to adjust were the secondary. DL adjustment were not great and several times I was blocked by someone that was already blocking, just the OL dude slide over while at the same time blocking another player. Tackling has gotten better but AI logic for the secondary is still trash. several times my player didn't stretch out to even attempt to INT the ball. This also happened on the offensive side of the ball as well. The was overthrown and hit the other WR that was standing looking at the ball hit him in the chest.

Overall: Madden 21 is banking on people playing The Yard which is fun but will not keep people interest for long. AI is horrible and the graphics need a face lift. This should have been a $20 DLC for Madden 20.

    *FRANCHISE MODE
I’ve been playing madden for years. When it comes to football, there’s nothing I love more than taking a struggling team and giving that team an identity that they previously lacked. However our tools to do so have been the same for YEARS.
-There’s no front loading or back loading contracts like in MBL The Show.
-The Maximum contract length is 7 years. And Patrick Mahomes crazy 10 year deal isn’t even in the game. And yes. He was granted that contract before this game came out. There’s no attention to detail. The list of issues this game has is astonishing.
-There’s no training camp, there’s no position battles. If you sign or draft a player to replace a veteran player. There’s no competition at all. You just pick who to start.
-There’s no holdouts when a player doesn’t get what he wants in a contract. Players always undervalue themselves in this game.
-This year, we even lost out on places we could relocate a team in madden.
-There’s still no custom team and custom stadiums (like there was in madden 12 years ago).
-The Captain badges on players don’t actually progress and only show year one on the jersey. So a guy like Russell Wilson who’s been a team captain for a while now and has a gold badge on his jersey (which implies that he’s a 5th+ year team captain). You could also take Quarterback Daniel Jones and make him team captain for 15 seasons and he’s still gonna show as a year one captain on his jersey. Something that worked last year.
-You have 90s football terminology for defensive positions. The game doesn’t understand the difference between a 3-4 edge rushing linebacker and 4-3 offball linebacker. As they compete for the SAME AWARDS. The best example is Khalil Mack (An EDGE RUSHER) literally competes for the SAME AWARDS as Bobby Wagner (a PASS COVERAGE OFFBALL LINEBACKER) they both play totally different positions, yet madden just sees it as, well they’re both linebackers. So sure. That’s so dumb. Same thing happens for defensive ends. The game doesn’t understand the difference between a 4-3 Edge Rushing Defensive End and a 3-4 Interior Defensive End. A 3-4 Defensive End would play Defensive Tackle in a 4-3. Yet madden doesn’t understand that. So if your 3-4 DE has a good year for his position. It doesn’t matter because he didn’t have a great year when you’re forced to compare him to a totally different position that’s judged on having sacks. It’s 90s football logic. Needs to be updated immediately. The average football fan is only getting smarter and smarter.
-When you’re in overtime, and you lose the coin toss. There’s no actual “against wind and or with wind” choice. You’re already **** already and you just have to pick defend north or south with a arrow pointing randomly. So you just have to guess if you can pick against or with wind. And half the time, people guess wrong.
-The ai in this game are terrible at team building. I often have to spend time away from my own team to go in and save their team from collapsing. It’s one thing if a team or two does it every other few years. But when a team can’t simply handle resigning and signing new players correctly. I don’t know what to do. The Ai Cowboys will have Zekes massive contract then go sign out a sign Rashad Penny to a 4 year 39 mill deal. And now they’re spending a dumb amount of money on running backs per season, when the ai doesn’t do very good with subbing in and out players to begin with. So now they can’t resign their starting corner and Tight End.
-Commentary is still the same. I don’t mind this team at all, it’s just that a guy like me who will play a offline league 8-10 years into the future. It doesn’t take much more than 7-8 games into a season to almost hear everything they can possibly say. Often repeating themselves multiple times in a game. I think to solve this, we should have multiple commentary teams. CBS with Tony Romo would be a welcomed edition with what we already have.
-There’s countless more issues you’ll find if you play.
    *MADDEN ULTIMATE TEAM
-People have not received their preorder bonuses. Madden Ultimate Team that is essentially pay to win, you could spend a couple hundred dollars on packs or spend a few hundred hours grinding to get a decent team, only to just get matched against a guy who bought countless “Packs” so that he had the chance to get all of his great players. Madden is a form of gambling and I don’t agree with that mode. People always argue that you don’t have to buy packs to be good there. But the mater of the fact is, is that the majority of the people are actually buying MUT Packs to win. EA is the only company that can make an NFL Simulation Game. They paid 1.5 billion to have that contract, so that nobody else can make a better product than them and this is the arcade mode they want us to pay for to win.

    Face of the Franchise

    Madden Ultimate Team
    Nie Gespielt kein Fan von

    The Yard

This is quite possibly the worst triple A sports title since the 16-bit era. EA should be absolutely ashamed at the product they created. This is nothing more than a low budget asset flip and it is abhorrent that the NFL allows exclusive sim licensing to EA.

Thank goodness I got to sample this game with EAplay. I wouldn't drop $60 on this game if you own any other Madden game from the past 4 years. The only positive I can bring to the plate is the music (great playlist this year in my opinion). Most of the gameplay is similar to last year, with the most up-to-date mechanic (D-Moves at the line) didn't really change the way I play defense. Most of the strong plays from last year are just as lethal this year. Most of the updates for this "Simulation" Football game went to the "Arcade" football modes in MUT and The Yard. MUT I won't really comment on since it's not my preferred mode, but I'll probably just spend my time there collecting the same team I had for the past 4 years. The Yard is interesting, but I was immediately sapped of all energy when my games were struck with glitches, and consistent EA Server disconnections. X-Factors are still pretty powerful. Pray that you don't have to play Russell Wilson anytime soon, as he darts either left or right out of the pocket with Mach5 speed without his X-Factors even being active (superstar ability, I guess). Aside from a few GUI Updates to franchise everything is the same, dare I say, Madden 25 was better. I don't know how year after year EA can get away with owing the exclusive license to SIMULATION FOOTBALL, and only improve, or focus on the ARCADE aspects of this game. Face of the franchise has a storyline that makes no sense, and anything you do doesn't matter (I won't spoil it). I can't recommend that anyone who owns any other version of Madden buy this lackluster addition to the lineup. This game needs Anthem level of overhauls to make it worthy of a purchase this year, but hey at least can throw 21 slants in a row to Julien Edelman and still massacre Defenses. Expand

I try to be a positive person that doesn't complain often. But early this Tuesday morning I decided I had time to write about my frustration with EA over the last decade.

I am 23 years old. I have yet to play a Madden for over half my life and get any new features besides an "upgrade" to scouting, arcade-like "Superstar X-Factors" and many more mediocre additions that seem half-assed and uninspired. It is clear that EA and whatever studio makes Madden games has been sadly consumed by corporate greed and thus left us football players and football fans alike with a product as mediocre as the years before. I could not stop myself this time from deciding to take the time to make a Metacritic account and giving this game a whopping 0/10.

If you haven't bought the game for 3+ years, sure, upgrade. If you have last year's installment I promise just don't even bother. Don't buy into the MTX-filled "The Yard" and demand better from the only game studio we can (or are supposed to, rather) enjoy a football-sim game from.

EA continues to be one of the worst game developers in the gaming industry. It is obvious that they only care about money rather than putting out a remotely DECENT game. The addition of the new mode “the Yard” cannot change the fact that the rest of the game is a mess. Face of the Franchise is full of ridiculous bugs and has a lame story that’s first 2-3 are pretty much predetermined. YourEA continues to be one of the worst game developers in the gaming industry. EA has abandoned it’s franchise community. You would think after a year of development that they would put even a tiny amount of effort. Other than the fact that it is a carbon copy of last year’s game, you can’t play a single game without running into a single bug. Ultimate team is still the same money grab as it always is. What does EA need with all the money they steal from their customers? Because it’s obviously not used to improve the game. Saying the gameplay is bad is being generous. User controlled players constanly get put into crappy animations which don’t make sense half of the time. It doesn’t feel realistic at all even though it’s a “simulation football game”. Apparently EA doesn’t know what simulation means. It’s very repetitive and lacks anything that would make it special.

EA is without a doubt the worst company ever. I hope all the negativitey they have received will be a wake up call. But let’s be honest, we all know it won’t. They will just throw the same crap wit one new feature (wow, insane) and call it a brand bew game. The higher-ups at EA only care about one thing. Their customers? No. Quality? Nope. Money? Bingo. I’m giving this game a 0 because it is honestly mind blowing that indie game developers with a small budget can put out better games than a BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY. Absolutely ridiculous.

2020 marks the third year Madden has been back on PC since the franchise's prodigal return to the platform in 2018. The novelty hasn't worn off for me yet. There is still something inherently weird and exciting about playing such a console-targeted franchise on my desktop; to type in my player's name and college with a keyboard. But that won't sustain many players for long. Madden is desperate for some new ideas, so let's hope some of 21's more exotic ventures foreshadow a more substantial rebuild in the future.

In short, it's a drive where the saga has lost ground.

Objectively speaking, Madden NFL 21 is not a bad game. It is a realtistic representation of the NFL, maybe even the best American football simulation out there. However, it lacks innovation on so many levels that players, who already own its predecessors, will really struggle to find a reason to pay another 70 bucks for it.
