A lot of fun, certainly long enough. Fighting and driving are really great, makes you want to keep playing and can't wait to get back on. Cons There are a few problems with the controls. Cons

There are a few problems with the controls. There are a couple buttons that do too many things and the game doesn't use nearly enough buttons or combinations to do more of the actions. IE, the refill tank and ignite, climb is the same as drop item is the same as pick up is the same as talk is the same as interact, combat is basically 2 buttons with a 3rd thrown in every now and then, all of the finishing moves are the same button. The main quests are very vague and stop you from progressing until you figure out they are trying to tell you something.

The story is a huge disappointment and honestly ruined the game for me. Had Max made some sense i would have rated this game much higher.

    Pros:
    - You can punch people in the face. Like a lot!
    - Landscapes are pretty.
    - The dog is nice.

    Cons:
    - Universe is extremely inconsistent.
    - Punching people in the face gets boring, as soon as you understand, that you actually fight UI icons and not the bandits.
    - Voice acting is as cheesy as it gets, for main character especially.
    - Pretty landscapes become rather boring pretty quick.
    - Car handling is a mess.

Universe of Mad Max greets player with a mixed bag of somewhat realistic graphics and extremely unrealistic everything else.

There are two types of main resources of the game: fuel and scrap metal, and they are wasted all the time on nothing. If you kill an enemy driver, the most obvious way of getting resources, is to take the car with all its fuel back home and disassemble it. But the game only let you to ram it until it explodes leaving just a few scraps, barely enough to add a bumper to your car.

That being said, any amount of damage to your car is fixed in matter of seconds, by tightening one single nut under the hood, and require no resources at all.

When you enter bandit’s camp, you see literally tons of scrap metal everywhere, including lots of cars and car parts. But you can collect only that one highlighted piece, just because.

The battle has same issues. You have a huge knife, but you cannot use it in combat. You fight 10 people at the time, but only one of them is engaging to fight you, while others wait in line. They not dumb monsters and you are not batman, so this is ridiculous.

There is also a magical store, that can convert couple of tons of scrap metal to one pretty shirt in the middle of sand desert. I guess that would be ok for a sci-fi game, but for an apocalyptic game, where people collect water from wind using rugs, this is way out of place.

I suppose, I could’ve enjoy that game if bandins would look more like crazy zombies or something, and characters would not try to sound so dramatic and serious.

This is my first impression based on 3 hours of gameplay

I ranked this game 10 because I think this title deserves more credit. It has a good open world atmosphere. You can see a devastating sand storm coming your way and then you have to run for your life and take shelter. It has a very nice graphics, fair story, nice combat system, and very fun car combat.

It was a good choice. I do tend to get bored in open world games sometimes but the combat and story of Mad Max kept me entertained. There were a few quirks along the way but nothing gamebreaking. The graphics were solid, the game was stable, the combat was great and the story fit the lore.

The gameplay was a mesh of the Batman games from Rocksteady and Sleeping Dogs. It mixed the timing based combat of the Batman games with the brutality from Sleeping Dogs. It felt very at home with the Mad Max series as it was very low tech but brutal. You could use shivs, various finishers such as breaking bones and necks, melee weapons and go into fury mode which aside from extra damage has it’s own selection of finishers. I wished you had more control over which finisher was used as sometimes they would repeat a lot but that’s a minor gripe. The car combat was pretty decently done but felt clunky at times. There were a good variety of weapons to use from the car but aiming them just felt off sometimes. I could be right next to an enemy but not have the option to shoot for their tires but move a little away or back and suddenly I could even though I should have had a clear shot before. The car damage was a mixed bag as well. I could run head on into a rock and half my car’s health could be gone or get t-boned by an enemy and same thing but I could then go and boost off a cliff, flip over a half dozen times and land without a scratch or dent to my car’s health. One more thing is that the lack of a jump ability was really poorly thought out. I literally couldn’t get to some loot because the game wouldn’t allow me to walk on a few surfaces to get to it. Had I been able to jump there would be no issue. I wish the map would tell me which areas were locked because sometimes I travelled all the way to a loot location only to be told this area was locked to a story quest which means I wasted my time going there.

The graphics were overall above average but not stunning. I can’t point to one thing and say it was bad but I also can’t point to one detail that really stunned me. You know the feeling of seeing water or foilage in Crysis the first time or seeing the world of Oblivion after exiting the dungeon after the intro or the fire damage to the landscape in Far Cry 2, etc. I could go on but basically the graphics were good and better than some but nothing stood out about them. It may be tough to make a desert wasteland look gorgeous but either way they didn’t. One thing I will say though is the storms were very well done. Lightning strikes going off everywhere, debris blowing everywhere, made for a sight and was tense.

As I mentioned earlier the game was stable for me on Linux. On Windows I would get a crash every 10 minutes or so due to a “directX error”. On Linux I had one single solitary crash and that was it. On Linux it had a Vulkan beta as wel as the standard OpenGL version. The Vulkan version offered me more stable framerates, less valleys and peaks than OpenGL. Both were good though as I averaged over 80 FPS with the game maxed out. That being said when I was around two specific areas, Deep Friah’s stronghold and Gastown, I would get random drops to 20-30 FPS even with nothing going on at all. No combat, car chases, just me walking around. I am not sure of the cause but it happened on both OpenGL and Vulkan. The game was only using 26% of my CPU and between 3-3.5GB of RAM so those weren’t the cause of my slowdowns. As for graphics options there were plenty. There were toggles for Vsync and motion blur, 8 different levels for AF, 1 level for SSAO and AA as well as 13 other options all with various levels. There was no way to turn depth of field off though, I could only lower it. While there was no option in the menu for 144Hz the game did allow me to go up to 144hz with Vsync. I beat the story in 52 hours and completed 78% of the game overall. I played on version 1.1 of the game. The game lacked manual saves but it did save after every event whether it was collecting loot, doing an upgrade or completing a mission so it wasn’t a big deal.

I enjoyed my time with Mad Max. It had it’s quirks and issues but overall the story was good and the combat was good so those are two big wins right there. I would easily recommend it to those who enjoy open world games or the timing based combat of the Batman games. There are better games out there but there are far worse as well. I paid $6 CAD for it but would easily say it is worth $30 CAD.

    My score: 7.5/10

The sound of running engine cause a lot of joy and make the heart beat faster; the driving physics is also on the good side, as well as random sand storms and tornadoes which can really catch us off guard and hurt badly. The world has been constructed in an exquisite way- all these light reflections, weather changes, driving physics, fight mode, enemies and the incredible undergrounds. We can also find stuff like postcards and info from the past. I’ll be honest- it was really nice to read these old notes and listen to short, but to the point comments from Max.

Additionally we have character development through doing all kinds of quests and upgrading our vehicles. To me it’s perfect! Below you can find evaluation of individual game elements and pros and cons.

Easily one of the best open worlds I've experienced, just the right amount of filler, solid if basic story, superb graphics (those sky boxes) and excellent sound. If you are the type of player that hammers through a game's storyline then there will be much that you will miss in this game. It will not be for everyone and the gameplay loop has a few issues in terms of pacing and repetitiveness but overall there is a lot of fun to be had. The main issue for me in terms of pacing was that I tend to play games like this a certain way...build up, build up, build up focusing on developing character skills and the means of developing a solid steady income. The problem (if it is one) is that in this game I was at maximum skill level and abilities before leaving the first part of the game. There were lots of vehicles and parts to still unlock but combat-wise, by ignoring the story and building up and completing tons and tons of side missions, salvage locations, encounters and liberating camps and territories, Max was as strong as he was going to get way before reaching the more challenging stuff in the second part.

The open world itself is often spectacular. The design of the camps and many, many of the scavenger locations dotted around the map are incredibly varied although the gameplay involved in taking them over or looting them is less so. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the game were smaller in scale but there are so many of these locations that some will undoubtedly find them boring at some point.

Driving and car combat is decent. Melee combat can be perhaps slightly more nuanced than mashing counter and attack...although that will get you through the majority of encounters. Yet as Max gains skills and abilities there is a bit more to the combat and fights can result in some pretty satisfying beat downs. However, boss fights are pretty much all the same...get some distance, wait for boss to charge, dodge roll, attack, hit with whatever that boss is weak against, dodge...runaway again and repeat. Every boss can be beaten this way and the only variety later in the game is that some bosses call in a few handfuls of minions to try spice up proceedings a little.

People complain about the story, and I have to wonder if they have seen a Mad Max film because none of them are particularly noteworthy for their narrative. The game starts slow story wise, but by the end you get the Max you are expecting. Having said all that, I enjoyed it quite a bit and definitely got my money's worth out of it. If it had been slightly smaller in scope and slightly more varied and had one or two other minor niggles polished out I might have even gone a bit more than an 8...as it is it's pretty solid at what it does and worth a look if you pick it up on offer.

    - Excellent driving and the wide variety car pimping upgrades worthy of the post-apocalypse (though it borders the illogical; after all, you can't change the entire body of the car mid-battle), and sick as hell car designs for both Max's and the enemies' that will make Mel Gibson glee in joy
    - Avalanche's trademark heavenly fire and explosion effects from their Just Cause series, coupled with authentic sound effects, that will make surely arouse Michael Bay, which is easily the most amazing sight in the game, and thankfully something you'll see all the time
    - The oh so glorious car combat, especially the convoy take-down side activities, which brings in the rush and awesomeness of Fury Road right in your face
    - The sick and satisfying melee combat in the vein of the Arkham games coupled with a few awesome moves like that one where you pierce that poor war boy with a thunderstick and let him explode in a glorious splatter, or that finisher where Max does the Black Widow neck twist, though not as complex and requiring of much timing and precision or strategy even than
    - Excellent character design, voice work and animation, and the fact that Max has unique dialogue for certain locations, except for those pathetic characters you meet in wasteland encounters who mumble an entirely different language
    - The pretty varied design (and the surprising complexity for some) of the loot locations, camps and stronghold which makes scouring each one of them less of a total grind, some of the most complex and intriguing of which are found in the farthest corners of the map
    - The history relic collectibles, some of which bring a true sense of loss and realization on my part that we might just be the one picking those same pictures one day
    - The deadly, excellently made and scary as fudge sandstorms that's not quite chaotic as that from 'Fury Road' but still crazy as fudge, that can literally send Max and his weak cars spiralling out of control
    - Dinky-di's pretty silly ability to bark and scare the crap out of landmines, so much so that they emerge from their deep sandy enclosures for Max to diffuse them
    - The awesome lens flare and aberration effects
    - When you get it, that absolutely epic moment when a sandstorm roars over as you fight the living crap out of warboys flipping their butts as you destroy those transfer tanks for the tenth time

    CONS:
    - The pretty weak and uninteresting story of Max fighting hoards of post-apocalyptic crazies just to pimp the hell out of his ride and finding peace in a world where the last thing you'll find is the p-word, coupled with generally uninteresting side characters that's basically there to give you fetch quests (which, come to think of it, is basically better than 'Fury Road' which isn't even really focused on Max himself but on Furiosa escaping with The Wives on the War Rig - incidentally on the game itself - then coming back to the Citadel)
    - The general open-world grind of icon extermination and collectathon, and the pretty strong sense of repetitiveness (including combat), which can get really tiring after hours of play (though still gets me excited to get back to after some rest)
    - The less than responsive counter system as compared to that of the Arkham or Middle-earth's, making you most likely to fail in getting that sweet 30+ combo counter and annoy you to the end of the Universe
    - The incredibly annoying death runs, featuring the archangel collectible cars that handle like crap and easily get destroyed with the slightest touch of the other cars' bumpers
    - The generally mediocre and uninteresting main and side mission design, generally comprising of driving for minutes on end, blowing up enemy cars along the way, reaching the objective point, kicking the crap out of everybody, maybe finding all collectibles in the area, and repeat
    - Max's sheer inability to jump even waist-freaking-high obstacles like he's carrying 500 pounds of fat within him when he can easily reach a yellow bar, which is unbelievably annoying
    - The utter uselessness of archangel car varieties, when you could just spend all your time upgrading your main magnum opus to an all around monster
    - Few bug annoyances, including enemies suddenly disappearing out into thin air, game elements not appearing properly, and the (quite frequent) crashing

So, my feelings on this game are so mixed. I want to give it a 10, but I also want to give it an 8. So I gave it a 9. It's best summarized this way: it's just SO MUCH FUN usually. Like Fallout, the Environment is the true star (at least so far, I'm 40 hours in) and the gameplay is just ok, but feels super fun. It just IS Mad Max.

    Good:

Accomplishments: I love the screens when you dismantle enemy camps and do other objectives; I LOVE when a designer adds that extra zing to acknowledge what you have done.

Atmosphere 10. Bonus: NAILS Mad Max.

Fighting: 8. Fights are visceral and more nuanced that critics give it, but not that hard usually and a bit simpler than batman. Car battles are very exciting, again directly out of the movie.

Fun Factor: Generally 10. It plays better than it is really is. If that makes sense. The game is really a solid 7 or 8 but "feels" like a 10 a lot of the time.

Graphics: 10. I dk what engine this is, but it's gorgeous photorealistic eye candy on par with Frostbite and Lithtech.

Level Design: 8. Each place feels very different even though there are obvious similarities. I never felt like they just carbon copied each location. Some of them really stunned me even after hours and hours of play. If after you dispatch the baddies you just love taking in the sights from a rusty walkway towering above the mountains overlooking a forlorn desert at nightfall, or the eerie survival horror of going down a ladder into a dark dungeon, it's good stuff. Never gets boring. Except for one criticism: it's great there are certain things that need to be crowbarred or stomped or exploded open, but there's rarely any mystery or strategy to it.

Speech: Again, beautiful finished touches. Chumbucket never seems to run out of new things to say. Don't get me wrong. He repeats himself a lot. But just when I thought I heard it all, he says something new. Samething with the strongholds and Griffa. Haven't run out of new compliments or insults or insights. Amazing. I LOVE the developers put that level of care into it.

    ***

    Ok now the bad:

Car: Some people claim the upgraded magnum opus is amazing. I've got 40 hours into the game and even the crappiest buggy can still outrun me no problem with fairly upgraded v6 stuff, when I'm driving perfectly on asphalt. Something's off here, but maybe I just need to figure it out.

Confusing mechanics: It took me awhile to get certain concepts like how to listen to the dog barking (it makes diff noises) or watch for clues in the environment that something's there. Same thing with using the harpoon; I could highlight enemy tires but then not doing anything b/c the harpoon wasn't good enough but no warning.

Constant Enemies: I don't understand how some people said there are no enemies to fight. Every 2 seconds, I'm just trying to explore or take care of an objective, I get overrun but highly armored annoying baddies. Don't get me wrong. Sometimes the random encounters are fun, but not every 2 minutes. By mid game it's just super annoying IMHO.

Gameplay: Ok, critics bash the game for its rinse repeat nature. I liked it. Because relics tell the story of the Fall and other events, it made scavenging worthwhile. I mean, it's basically Fallout in MM. That said, there are few things that could use improvement: (1) a penalty for dying? other than pride? (2) once you build strongholds, scrap and ammo accumulates to the point there's no point scavenging anything except for relics; the fact that strongholds give you bonuses is awesome but also ultimately detracts from the horror survival aspect (3) more realism (see below) (4) you can use fast travel to escape certain death; they might want to restrict it (yeah yeah I know, I can always restrict it myself, still...) (5) combat is very good, but not quite all the way there yet.

Map: UGH! The water markers constantly disappear off it unless you're near. I can't tell you how annoying this is. You need water as a med kit and they hide it from you. Even after you discover it. But not always. It's random.

OCD: Critics nailed it that sometimes trying to loot each location is an OCD nightmare. Most times its really fun to explore every nook and cranny but sometimes I HAD to go to the internet to find it.

Realism: Yeah um right. Ok, I get it. You're Mad Max, but you can drive off a cliff and suffer no damage. You can also get run over a car a few times. Head on. I mean, if they animated you dodging aside at the last minute or something maybe.

Storms: The big storm was a great idea that in truth is a terrible idea. You get like 10 seconds warning, and then it's often impossible to find cover in time. Your car is safe but it's not. You can't heal in your car. And then enemies, immune to the storm themselves, often find and attack you in the middle of it. (silver lining) I found you can fast travel at will and avoid it.

Pros: solid game, with good customization, some hand to hand fighting and enjoyable gameplay. As a bonus, good graphic that is very well optimised.

Not only does this game have very good graphics, the combat (both on foot and in cars) is very fun and satisfying. Upgrading the Magnum Opus is also very rewarding. There are also lots of missions and side quests that keep you playing all day. Not to mention this game goes on sale a lot, so you can pick it up cheap. Would recommend.

the story was not bad but i don't like the end of that because it was very open and everybody can have a think about it. at all it wasn't good for emotional people. also when story mode ends i don't see a reason to play the other modes!

I really enjoyed this game, traveling around the wastes, building a super car from scraps is something I liked very much and the melee combat was also well put together. It can get a bit repetitive, so I didn't try to do everything, but by following the story line and not doing the large amount of repetitive side quests there is a lot of brutal fun to be had.

Great looking game with a fitting story for the universe. It does have some major flaws that, in order for the game to be enjoyed, one must either ignore or just accept. I will list some pros and cons here:

    Pros:
    + The story fits the universe quite nicely;
    + The characters might give you a weird feel at first, but they tend to come along nicely;
    + The ideia of the car progression as you progress with the story is interesting;
    + Some immersion in the game (historical relics), attention to detail and collectibles;
    + Beautiful world. Seriously, this is one of the top points in the game;
    + Hella fun to enter in the convoy fights;
    + Some strategy in the camp invasions (if you want to be strategic, that is);
    + Combat system is ~OK~.

    Cons:
    - In case you opt to do the side quests, the story takes to long to engage. Also, the repetition makes it nearly impossible for you to keep up on the side quests;
    - Even though the center characters turn out to be nicely done at some point, the game displays a lack of interesting characters, which leads me to the worst point of the game (imo):
    - There is no variety on bosses. Seriously, the "camp bosses" are all the same guy. Maybe he might have a different skin (a little bit of paint over the mask or something), but it is the same guy, with the same strategies;
    - Despite the car progression being nice, the handling is a serious problem. It took me a while to get used to the steering, since it is very common for you to lose control of the car and crash against some rocks. It sucks when you are in the middle of a car fight and you just stop because you lost the track and hit a rock;
    - The world might be beautifully made,but the lack of variety makes it feel somewhat dull and boring;
    - Regarding the convoys and car fights, refer to con 4;
    - In case you opt for not being strategic in a camp invasion, you can just go on, with your face exposed, and smash everything inside. This COULD be a pro, if the camp invasions weren't all so damn repetitive;
    - Combat system is ~OK~.

For me, the whole problem lies in the repetitiveness. The lack of boss fights or variations is the most unacceptable part. I mean, come on, this is Mad Max! There is just so much to be done! So many character design ideas! It wouldn't cost an arm to think a little bit on terms of variety, especially on the side missions.

To summarize, if you are into open world games, roaming around a wasteland with a badass car (using it to obliterate other cars) and smashing random and irrelevant faces with your fists, then this game is for you. If you are looking for some depth and content variation, I suggest you skip it. The game feels very like every Ubisoft game's style, with 4 or 5 types of missions that merely change a dime.

First of all, I have to commend the visual aspect of the game - it's by far the most appealing I've seen so far. Most satisfying hand-to-hand combat I've experienced in a game, great graphics and animations. Loved the vehicle motion and combat and customization options, the level design (the world is massive - lots of different areas to see), random events interrupting your business, such as storms and bandit patrols (although I wish some of them had stopped doing that after getting beat up so many times).

While the game featured several fleshed out characters and well written scripts and dialogue,it looks like Avalanche Studios figured they don't need all that and decided to not utilize their writers' skills further than the bare minimum. This company doesn't seem to appreciate a solid, prevalent story in an open world game. There's a whole lot to do here, but there is a serious lack of that driving force that should keep you motivated to explore every nook and cranny of this amazing world.

The main story in this game revolves entirely around Max wanting his stolen V8 engine back and he will cast aside all his emotions and any interest for some sidetracking (there is a SERIOUS lack of storied side missions) to make that happen. Consequently we now have this grumpy Max who yaps at everybody for no reason and is simply an obnoxious character.
The world is absolutely massive, but there are unfortunately a limited number of activities: destroy stuff, beat up raiders, listen to some NPC's boring one paragraph intel, destroy convoys, fight patrol cars, race through the wasteland etc. That's what you're expected to engage in over and over, but besides yielding you more upgrades for your car doing all that doesn't have a point. Think about how that plays out: you spend hours upon hours doing chores to earn a new exhaust for your car... It's Just Cause all over again - a vast world with no draw.

The only reason I figured a 7 instead of a 6 or 5 is because the little story it had showed potential and was executed well enough (not decently though - transitions in the story were not seamless and needed work), and the visual aesthetics were impressive. This was almost the perfect Mad Max game, but unfortunately it focused too much on the Hollywood definition of the "Mad" part and neglected the necessary attention to the other. Remember the first Mad Max movie? Strong story that makes you root for Max all the way through. This game simply doesn't capture that effect.

Level design is VERY impressive... truly showcases the extreme uniqueness of Mad Max's setting. I've never known what a post apocalyptic earth without any oceans would look like, but now I do. To see submarines, ships, and oil dredgers sit on top of sand dunes and serve as the last remnants of humanity is a truly memorable takeaway from this game. 10/10

Sound is perfect. Everything sounds the way you'd expect it to. 10/10

Story is actually what holds the game back the most. Character development seems shallow, the actual plot seems pointless, it is always unclear why people are driven to do what they do. There's not a lot of great dialogue, everything is always to the point and direct.. 1/10

While the design, gameplay, and sound are all impressive enough to rival most GOTY material, the story that should hold everything together and make the experience memorable and interesting simply isn't there...

++ Optimization is stunning. One of the best optimized games of the past year or two.

+ Graphics are great. Light, dust, haze is a great icing on a highly detailed cake. Clouds look a little low-res at times, but the skybox looks fantastic in general (if you like sunsets / sunrises, there are some great screenshot opportunities).
+ Punchy sound design. Explosions have great impact.
+ Great story - gritty and grim - but it’s short. Do yourself a favor and complete the Wasteland side-missions in addition to the main campaign. You’ll get to know the factions a bit better and the game feels more complete.
+ The wasteland is wonderfully detailed. Rocks, caves, forts, pumping stations, strongholds, outposts – even though it is a dusty wasteland, there is plenty of visual variety.
+ Customizing the car. From the body style, to the suspension, engine, armor, and more, you can really make the car you want to play the way you want.
+ All the unfinished missions and quests return after finishing the main story campaign so you can take your time, explore the wasteland, and 100% the game if you want.

+/- The hand-to-hand combat is a riff on the Batman Arkham combat system with fancy finishers but without gadgets. It works well enough, but nothing outstanding about it. (If keyboard & mouse is your preference, be sure to have a 3-button mouse.)
+/- The game is a grind for scrap, which is used for much-needed upgrades. If you hate grinding, walk away. If you enjoy exploration and looting, then Mad Max is an amazing experience.
+/- Child slavery content warning. There isn’t much, but it is there.

    - Checkpoint saving only. Awkward in a sandbox game.
    - Driving mechanics are sub-par; floaty and imprecise, the smallest bump can send the car flying, leaving Max facing the wrong way in seconds as the enemy speeds off into the distance. Not good in a game that focuses so much on driving. The Gastown race almost made me rage-quit the game.
    - Enemies are endlessly re-used.
    - Grinding is required. Upgrades are sometimes hidden behind completely clearing a region of threats.
    - Glitchy menus. Hitting Escape to view a new log entry would frequently result in seeing the menu headings, but no images or text. Switching to another menu then switching back would usually fix the issue.
    - Messed up mission progression. Need to build the “Jack”, a special class of car referred to as an Archangel. Well, the next part of the mission wouldn’t trigger, no matter what I did. Checked online. As it happens, I had parts on the car that were a level HIGHER than what was required to progress. I had to un-equip all upgrades on the car, and re-equip only the upgrades the game told me to, and the rest of the mission triggered properly.
    - Some quests that were supposedly optional disappeared without warning because I chose to continue with the main story first. All the missions return for completion after finishing the main campaign, though, so there’s that.

It was a challenge to bring Mad Max to an open world game, and Avalanche delivered an incredibly gritty, detailed world and a mature story. While the story itself is not open-ended, there is clearly a chance for sequels - with possible franchise potential. Fans of Mad Max and open-world explore-and-loot games should give it a try – especially since it now discounts during sales to $10 or less. There’s a lot of value here. Recommended.

This is - by far - the most beautiful desertscape in PC gaming i have seen yet. Considering it is a desert - the diversity and detail is quite stunning. The detail does come at a price though. Similar to Fallout 4, which is much more detailed than Fallout NV - the world feels uncomfortably small for some reason.

Yes - driving through the entire map does take a long time indeed ... but still ... it always breaks my immersion when i see hostile factions the size of what cannot be much more than a small town sitting right next to each other ... actually so close that a sharpshooter with a good rifle could probably and easily kill every single enemy in the neighbouring camp.

    But enough of that....

The mission design and gameplay is pretty standard. Missions progress the story and unlock "stuff" .. but the game itself is kind of open world. I have not had a dreaded escort mission or a timed mission - so i do not know if they exist of how they play - so far i had the typical destroy everything missions or collect item missions - which are simple by mission design but allowing a great tactical freedom in terms of how to conduct them.

Camp design is more based on gameplay than on logic - and usually pretty linear. There is sufficient variety not to get too bored - but all in all .. the random camps are nothing special.
The AI is fun - but VERY casual so far. Dealing with hordes of enemies on foot feels rediculous. Enemies wait to engage you and allow themselves to be picked one by one to be killed. Compared to a simiplar gameplay like Far Cry 3/4 ... the AI is rather on the retarded side. Of course it is rather a melee game than a shooter .. and the melee is a "light" version of the Batman franchise consisting of punches and timed blocks.

Lets just say - it is sufficient but far from special.

The car combat is a lot more fun and also more tactical. That does not mean it is very hard by any stretch of the imagination. It is however unique enough to feel fresh every now and then. Car AI follows fairly predictable patterns though - and the NPCs do not surprise you much.

A huge compliment goes to the technical optimization. For how the game looks - it runs .. and there is no other term ... absolutely amazing. Fluent gameplay on low end computers (with occasional slow downs though)
Also the feeling of the car in the desert is absolutely amazing. The sense of weight, torque, grip, impact and force has been done amazingly well. I cannot remember any other game as immersive in terms of visuals and controls when it comes to car driving physics. Sure - the phyiscs are not real - but they feel very good indeed.

For me - a major teardrop is always when i cannot "pick" and customize my avatar in such a game. I would have loved to have the option to customize my character (gender, looks etc. ) - but it is just a very tiny thing. (and yes - i know ... it is Mad MAX - so it is quite self explanatory to play as the titular protagonist)

All in all a VERY good game that does not invent anything - but does whats done by many games before ... very well.

    - Some comment that story is boring, but i'd say it fits nicely in post-war setting (not that you can expect some complicated story when all you need first is to survive), look at the movies.

    Cons:
    - My major issue is that game is extremely easy. If you didnt started to play games yesterday, theres no challenge here, contrary to the fact that this is post-apocalyptic world, where survival should be hard.
    - My second largest issue, is that game apparently, is targeted at younger audience - tons of car customizations, collecting different cars, boring side missions, meaningless tasks to reduce threat in region, lots of scaveging locations just so you can fight more. This should have made world not feel empty, but there are more effective ways to do that (Fallout 2?).
    - Car physics. Although it is fun to chase convoys, it feels so unnatural that you cannot destroy your car entirely, flip on roof or die while crashing in full speed into a wall or something. This would make chases more intense and challenging.
    - Self-guided missiles? Lots of them? In the desert?

That being said, the game is ok, i had fun with it.
My advice if you are not casual gamer - skip side missions, dont bother with stronghold projects (except where it is required to keep on), just keep with main mission. The game will be a little more challenging this way.

A decent main story with solid gameplay and great optimisation, but it falls prey to the whole 'ticking off a checklist' feel when it comes to a lot of the side content. Sure, this adds more hours to the experience, but there are more interesting ways to fill up a game than what Mad Max offers.

I expected Mad Max to be decent, but not this good. It's basically Assassin's Creed, but with improved game mechanics, better graphics and in the desert. Really good job and an excellent PC port, too.

But still I spend well over 50 hours in it, the game is beautiful, the world is perfectly designed to show the atmosphere of this universum, character and car design is great, steering and mechanics are also very good, responsive and satisfying. Optimization is top notch, thats the smoothest game I ever played, not only because it keeps steady 60 FPS 100% of a time, but also the camera movement and controls, everything feels so smooth. EN/ A successful open world game in the Mad Max universe. To survive, you will steal anything you can need from your enemies, kill them, and if necessary, you will eat maggots of their corps to survive. Law and rules are invalidated in this world. Those who wants to survive, will need a strong Will, and a highly customized car. Shoot on enemy vechicles with rockets (not realy a rocket), fish the enemy driver out of his vechicle with a wired harpune, etc..., there are plenty of ways to finish them off. It will also happen a lot that you will have to fight with your fists. In fact, Max is the good guy in this world, but it feels like that he is the baddest guy around... If you like opne world games with racing elements and a lot of explosions, then Mad Max won't be a bad choice at least.

DE/ Ein gelungenes Open World Spiel im Mad Max Universum.

Games based on movie franchises & also ones developed for as many platforms possible, are more often than not lackluster at most and as a sad fact are expected to be so. On the positive they initially remain free from the pestilent hype, which in this pre apocalyptic era serves us a platter of maggots promised as gourmet a-la-king.This is one of the few games which not only controls
well but performs flawlessly, with almost non existant loading screens on all platforms and most of
all is a whole grease ball full of open-world carnage.

You start out as Max, and he is kind of Mad after losing everything recently including his iconic gas guzzler the black on black as well! The characters he initially meets shares a common familiarity with the protagonist and that's one of being forsaken and scrounging around in the dunes creating their
own reasons to make life worth clinging on to.Like a dog who is left astray named after a can of dog food
named Dink-Di, witch sole purpose is sniffing out landmines after being left crippled. The characters all
seem to fit and are initially well developed considering the theme. If you are playing the game expecting a blockbuster story you would be sorely missing the point, watch the first Mad Max & Mad Max : Fury Road movies for that. The main quests wont leave you laboring for weeks, yet there is so much more
to do in this game if you choose to do so and you are well rewarded for it. Npc interactions are few yet
alleviated by your mechanic companion which is one of the most interestingly developed and easily
creeps into ones heart with his black fingers.

You start out with a rusty frame with some wheels and an engine, from their on out its up to you how
you want to create your new ride.Everything from choosing the chassis to the particular specs are left
up to the player. Would you like to soar over the dunes in a lightweight speed demon or command a
heavily armored bulldozer leaving burning wrecks of metal & fuel in its wake? The deep & meaningful customization is a very nice touch and to me is where the game design excels.Survival elements also
play a part via the scarcity of health & ammo yet it's so rewarding to not die when one survives a seemingly hopeless encounter with pure skill and a tad of luck. Preparations is key but no matter of preparation can save you from a sandstorm in the middle of infiltrating an enemy encampment and one
is often forced to think on your feet. Enemy types does seem a bit lacking but I cant say that about the vehicles I encountered which is varied. Some innovative mechanics such as enemy vehicles that can be and can be commandeered and then salvaged for a large scrap reward by shooting an harpoon into the driver and safely "extracting' him from his vehicle. The game is well optimized and has some of the best day/night cycles ive ever sawn. Not to mention the variations in terrain and added little details like fuel dripping burningly onto the ground from your exhaust, tracks & dust clouds left imprinted on the dunes, whirlwinds and sandstorms throwing a wrench into your plans when you least expect it.This game is full of such details & random little moments of great fun which acts as quicksand of immersion.

Some minor stomach aches may exist with the controls like press this button to climb & whatnot, yet its a minor setback for the control's being so well done for PC as well as Controllers. I'm also aware of
of some negativity surrounding the plethora of task's becoming repetitive yet the game never forces you to do so as its completely optional, but I understand the struggle a completionist would "enjoy' in this world as it quite large witch is a plus for me.

Pants of to Warner Brothers which created epic property's that so loved that it inspires developers creative wings to no end, as proven by releases such as the Batman Arkham series, Shadow of Mordor and now Mad max.

    The Good:
-Overall, the game has beautiful graphics, with some exceptions (more on that later).
    -It runs like butter.
-Like the rest of WB games I've played (Batman saga, Shadow of Mordor), it's very stable and has very few bugs.
It still has a couple of clamorous bugs, though (more on that later)
-Pretty decent voice acting, Chumbucket is pretty hilarious sometimes.
-Pretty decent progression mechanics, vehicle and character upgrades, stronghold upgrades, etc.
-Driving through the wasteland with the Magnum Opus, laying waste to enemy camps and chasing convoys is pretty sick. But, as I said, I missed certain things (more on that later).
-Combat is savage and enjoyable, although with certain limitations (more on that later)
-The game has very nice touches like massive and deadly sandstorms, survival elements which include eating worms from corpses, keeping your canteen and fuel tank filled, etc. Thunderpoons are also sick.

    The Bad:
-The main story is perhaps too short. So much important stuff happens so fast, without really giving the story time to build up for the big moments.

-Repetitive grind. This isn't an issue for me, since I don't mind grinding in games that I like. However, you might get tired of clearing enemy camps and collecting loot in repetitive ways. Personally, I didn't get tired since I took it as part of the experience.

-This game lacks those huge concentrations of enemy vehicles from the movies, it's pretty scarcely populated, overall. "Large" concentrations of enemy vehicles are limited to convoys and war parties, and even then, those are pretty small (less than 10 vehicles).

-The game is way too easy. Very little challenge overall, plus the Magnum Opus is essentially indestructible.
Combat is pretty straightforward, it's essentially the same combat system fround in other WB games like the Batman saga and Shadow of Mordor. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, since I quite like to keep it simple sometimes, it's just too easy, that's all.
At least in the Batman saga there was challenge introduced by the sheer number of enemies. In this game you'll find concentrations of up to 12 enemies, with some variation, that's about all the challenge you'll get...

-The game lacks combat gore for my taste. No dismemberment, beheadings, etc. There are plenty of gore elements scattered around the map, tons of corpses impaled on scarecrows, rotten corpses pretty much everywhere, truly disgusting body piles, etc., but there's almost no gore in combat. Just painful combos.

-Absence of fear effects in combat. Enemy cars do run away after getting overpowered by the player, but that doesn't happen in combat, which is a real pity. In Shadow of Mordor, it was delicious to make orcs panic by massacring their mates...in this game, you can only do that when riding the Magnum Opus.

-I've found a couple of game breaking bugs, sadly.
There's a camp in Pink Eye's territory called Havoc Point. This camp can't be cleared in the usual way because the door is bugged. So you have to find a workaround for it.

There's another bug that makes one of the scarecrows disappear as you approach it, so it can't be destroyed. I think it's located in Pink Eye's too, on top of a destroyed highway overpass.

    The Ugly:

-Low polygon rock models in several places, which are masked with dark textures, in order to give the impression of grooves where there are none. Well, I NOTICED! And I don't approve of lousy 3D modelling work! XD.
-Low polygon chains, which basically consist of two lines of flat chain textures, arranged in a cross pattern. This was common practice in the 90s and early 2000s, but it's 2016 already, chains must be modelled with the same level of detail as the rest of stuff, otherwise what's the point?

-Most npcs that you encounter throughout the game are basically clones of three or four character models.
This is common practice in a lot of games, but it's still ridiculous and detracts from the experience.
Also, most enemies are clones too. Sure there are different kinds of enemies, with different weapons, skills and armors, but they are all based on the same few models, making the game suck when it shouldn't.
It's like Shadow of Mordor, where all slaves were basically clones, unlike the orcs, which were pretty diverse and well modelled. It's sad to see games with so much potential being ruined by npc cloning.

That's pretty much all the stuff I could think of.
Overall, I definitely recommend this game to all Mad Max fans and people looking to have a savage time raiding the post-apocalyptic wastelands in a sick Magnum Opus.

Max has lost his signature V8 Pursuit Special to thieving Warboys led by the unfortunately named Scabrous Scrotus, and teams up with a crippled but gifted mechanic named Chumbucket, who has a vision from on high to create the perfect car: the Magnum Opus. Journey with the pair across the dried shores of a forgotten land, doing a handful of story missions and a whole heaping load of optional content. The driving physics are excellent. Those complaining about stubborn handling don't realize that the cars in Mad Max handle like actual cars- they have weight, friction, impact. You can customize the Magnum Opus to your liking, unlocking new internals and offensive attachments as you gather scrap, the game's currency, and reduce the threat level of the Warboys in each of the four major regions by destroying convoys, scarecrow markers, sniper nests and war camps. Where the Opus doesn't fit, Max can lay into his enemies with brutal hand-to-hand maneuvers, in a system not unlike the Batman: Arkham games but far less in-depth. While simply mashing attack will get you through the early fights, good use of blocks, counters and dodges will be needed later. I found the game oddly similar to Star Trek Online in this regard: while you spend much more time driving, the on foot segments will quickly make you wish you were back in the Opus. On the road, your combat options are far more powerful, and diverse: in addition to ramming enemies, with the option of using boost to enhance damage, you have a side-slam move identical to that seen in Sleeping Dogs, though it is far less effective here when compared to your other options: side flamethrowers, a harpoon that can rip wheels off cars or drivers out of the cars completely, explosive-tipped harpoons that annihilate cars outright, and of course, Max's trusty shotgun- capable of blowing a wheel off a car just as easily as it will one-shot any normal enemy while on foot. The sound quality is incredible. The shotgun makes just about the loudest bang I've ever heard in a game and when you FINALLY get your hands on the coveted "Big Chief" V8 engine near the endgame, you will hear its sublime roar and feel blessed. Dotted throughout the game are callbacks to the films, including the much-beloved Thunderdome. I cruised around the wastes for hours, only wishing the game had some better music. Mad Max succeeds where it needed to the most: Putting you in the driver's seat of the most deadly, awe-inspiring metal machine left on earth. Where it falls short is in a similar area to other "open-world" games- It is, in fact, TOO big a game. I clocked in over 60 hours and, if i were to be generous, perhaps 5 hours of that are actual story missions. Most of the game, as with Avalanche's flagship series Just Cause, is made up of optional content and there are only so many types of these activities, though the Death Run race events stand out. I found myself tuning out during long stretches of collectible farming, eventually resorting to binge-watching tv shows on netflix with the game volume turned down while I knocked activity icons off my map one by one. However, whenever I got back in the Opus, heard that engine, hit the boost, watched that blinding blue flame issue from my chrome pipes and slammed right into some unsuspecting warboy's pathetic scrapheap of a car, I remembered what I was playing and why. Mad Max is not a boring game by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a loooong one, and it has some slow stretches. Regardless, I enjoyed the better part of it- and the better part of it made me feel like I was in a world gone Mad. Expand

The game puts you in a post-apocalyptic world very well known from Mad Max series. I do must say that I enjoyed the original movie more then the new one so I'm not so thrilled by the environment. What's outstanding is the fact that it's very similar all across the board. It makes sense giving the setting but seeing the constant desert like background is a bit dull. Though given the setting of the game it is to be expected and this is not a genuine critique.

You start our by driving and encountering a gang of cars that take away your car. You then meet a repair guy who helps you with rebuilding a brand new car in a quest to put a V8 in it.

So the game introduces pretty cool mechanics at start - your fuel is limited and you must refill it from time to time to keep going. The ammo is really scarce - you count every shot - especially when it comes to the sniper rifle. Water put in a canteen is used to replenish your health. And at first the game is quite challenging but things change when you reach the first stronghold. All you need to do is finish some projects that on each stronghold visit will replenish your ammo, fuel and health. Combine that with quick travel and I have never needed any additional fuel or felt a need to look for ammo.

Apart from main missions which progress the story pretty far you have a number of things to do. Either upgrade strongholds by acquiring different parts, lower terror level by destroying scarecrows or fighting different camps. You need to collect scrap along the way to purchase different upgrades to your car. There is a ton to do, but it all seems either repetitive or just gets boring pretty fast.

Starting with the small camp locations. It's cool that each of them and there are quite a few is looking different. But in each you do the same damn thing. You drive up, a bunch of people come out screaming - you fight them off and collect some loot, move on. In every each one of it.

The bigger camps - this looked so promising. Each one has a scout sitting somewhere near giving tips like 'there is a secret way on the right'. And you think - cool I can approach this in different way. Wrong. There is no stealth in this game. If you manage to pass external defences and somehow get in unnoticed you enter same area as you would enter gun blazing. Even worse when the enemies come out as they would normally the external defences start firing inside which is quite frustrating. So the only way to approach bigger camps is to:
    - drive around destroying external towers
    - snipe what you can
    - enter gun blazing
    - kill a number of waves of enemies
    - complete objective (i.e. destroy fuel barrels etc)
    - go to next camp

And bosses are so easy it's just boring fighting them.

The strongest part of the game is car combat. And that indeed is fun. Taking out enemy convoy is challenging and fun. You can harpoon a door out and pull the driver. You can pull out tires. You can ram the other car or throw an exploding spear at them. Although final car driving bosses do feel a bit easy in my opinion.

In summary - this is a quite bland game that misses the potential it could have achieved. The story is not compelling to play - at one point of the game I just decided to rush through it to have it completed. Not really interested in getting all upgrades or defeating all camps. Fun for an hour or four but outstays it's welcome.

The worthless 'Intel' missions (did sneaking in EVER work in a camp?), Minefields, tedious same old same old, over and over and over. No story to speak of. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed playing this game. The world is huge, the references to the movie series are great, the ambiance is fantastic (you actually feel like in a apocalyptic environment), car combat is awesome, fighting combat is good, most of the main and side missions are fun, the story is ok.
But if you try to complete your stats the game becomes boring and repetitive.
The story starts great but it get´s lost for most of the game, there isn´t a clear goal on most of the missions besides gaining new stats or equipment improvement.

Max's main goal is entirely selfish and your objectives are exactly what one would do in a post-apocalyptic world: scratching ones back as they scratch yours.

Car combat is as excellent and enjoyable as one would think car combat should be. I wouldn't be surprised if Warner Bros. Interactive made a Twisted Metal variant using this same engine.

Overall gameplay is enjoyable, but gets a bit tiring after a couple hours. This may sound like a complaint, but it's actually not a bad thing. It makes it so you don't binge and play for eight hours straight.

So in short, this is a very good game, even at $60.

Thanks to all the negative reviews, I almost didn't give this game a chance! being a huge fan of the MM franchise since I was a little boy, the thought of this being just another movie game cash grab was heartbreaking.

Truth be told, I never would have bought it save that it was on sale on steam. For the first hour or two, I was seriously considering returning the game before my Steam trial period was up. The fighting felt overly simplistic, and at the same time, the timing of the fighting was annoying.

It still roughly amounts to little more than block, slam slam, block slam, dodge slam slam slam.

But it's those SLAMS that really satisfy.

You see, Max doesn't just flail around, dealing damage to whatever polygon is in the way of his attack. Instead, those fists are guided, almost every attack in the game is programmed to look REAL. When you block, you don't stand their with your arms crossed in a half crouch like so many other games, No... you literally intercept the opponents attack, and only if you really mess up the timing does your block turn into the old school braced arms.

In other words, you intercept punches, kicks, even body slams and either reverse them, or otherwise counter them in really brutal ways.

The visceral nature of the brawling is hard to find below that simplistic surface, but once you find it... you will REVEL in it.

I went from being disappointed that I can't equip weapons long term, use knives, guns etc. To being glad the game is a knock down drag out fury fueled slug fest. The brutality of the fighting, combined with the "survival" nature of health regen etc, means no fight is really trivial. Any enemy in the game can still ruin your day if you are not on top of your game.

To be fair, once you get a grasp of the mechanics and timing, it's actually not super challenging, I do still die on occasion to even low level enemies.

All this combines to create such a feeling of satisfaction after a fight that I RELISH and basque in the afterglow of a good brawl.

The exact same brutality and satisfaction applies to the driving and demolition derby game play of the open wasteland.

The first time I chased down a convoy, It was so much like a scene out of Road Warrior, it was mind bending, I had to pause the game, call my wife over, and we sat on the edge of our seat as I chased down the lead car, battling my way through the escort... when it was all over, I stopped to collect my prize, and my wife was like "Hurry the **** up before more of those bastards come!"

    It was so exhilarating.

So, I guess I'm one of those people who "get" this game, and I'm sad that it's not doing better, because it makes me doubt ever seeing another one with a bigger budget.

This game won't appeal to everyone, this game is far more than a combination of it's parts. The whole entity is an organic open world that begs you to explore it, the visuals, the sounds... Even the dust storms.

If you are a Mad Max fan, don't mind the fact that it's not really part of the timeline, but gets the look and feel and brutality right on point, I would suggest ignoring the negative reviews, and try it. Make sure you REALLY try to look past the surface simplicity of the fighting, look for the deeper joy it allows.

I am actually enjoying this game as much if not more than Fallout 4... There I said it. Flame away.

The 2 big problems are car collision physics can be unforgiving in the driving missions as one bump can spin you which can be very frustrating and also there isn't much to do other than collect scrap, they could have done more with the exploration. All in all a very fun and playable game.

You play as disgruntled Max as “lone wolf” with his double-barreled shotgun through endless sand dunes in apocalyptic atmosphere set somewhere in future, yet without remaining technology other then vehicles and scrap to present main value in this world. Third person action game where you fight for surviving until very last breath, without place for love and kindness left only with memories and not promising future with only one remaining quests; to find the “Plains of Silence”, a fabled land where he might find solace from his madness.

Weeks before official release developers has made couple announcements both written and during podcasts about interesting and not much seen auto-generated map with endless driving and much more unique experiance of free roaming. Endless nothing is not so endless after all. First thing which majority of players tried is exploring beyond map limits where on most sides you would hit invisible wall or start loosing health very fast for no reason whatsoever while in only couple directions you could drive for more then couple minutes without any single camp or in fact, any object.

With that being said one of most unique features related to exploring for this year felt in water and we are left only with remaining action based side of Mad Max. Vehicles are matter of life and death where Max on very begining of this a bit more simplistic story; is left without vehicle, the Interceptor, having a goal to build his ultimate car, called the Magnum Opus. He is seeking a revenge and his car, but nothing more which lower importance and stakes of his goal from perspective of a regular player.

Most of the time action and fighting is based on vehicles fight so upgrading vehicle and extra features as armor or harpoon to tear out doors, wheels or even drivers themself will be handy and unavoidable if you want perfection yet again not so necessary since game will force you in particular missions to get required upgrades before you start them. Shotgun and sniper are only Max’s weapons which are available while driving, you can use shotgun for destroying other cars but for sniper use you need to switch positions with Chum and get into trunk. Male fighting system on the other side is based on Batman series, completely identical with known attack/counter/dodge mechanics where physics are more realistic then previosly mentioned series where personal Max upgrades once again come handy and helpful for quicker and safer resolving of fights. More health, armor, increased attack damage and couple more attributes you upgrade to a couple locations marked on map which represent mysterious man who will help you in achieving that.

Despite very good fighting physics of Max and AI, it’s still a bit out of space. Impact with cars and tries from AI to run you over once when you are of car and you wait for Chum to complete repairment will often finish with laugh instead trying to escape and dodge vehicles. Despite high speed or perfect trajectory of cars Max’s body will often be pushed on a side without falling or having any moves which should indicate that he has just been run over by a car. Jumping is possible but it will be used only on places where you might get stuck by accident and it’s required to get out while most of the time you will use “use” button for starting animation where Max will climb alone which kills immersion for most of the gamers.

Whole Wastelend is devided in couple territories where eventually you meet main guy, work along with them and get fortress as safe locations for your car. Whole point of those territories is to explore and do all things which would reduce threat on that same location. There are threat levels and by destroying camps, sniper towers or scarecrows where you might need some of high upgrades. Some cleared enemy camps will be replaced with your allies and you will be awarded through time with random amount of scrap, which you also get in every location by exploring. You use scrap for Magnum Opus upgrades or for things in previosly mentioned fortress which gives you random features and perks, like refilling your ammo belt and others. You are also able to fast travel without any cost between fortress locations including some other explored points on map which will reduce length of this adventure by a lot if you decide most of the time to use this feature.

One more side of this adventure with really huge potential is not fulfilled with surviving mechanics.

Mad Max is one solid and very mediocre game but probably biggest victim of unused potential this and probably even couple years back. Great optimization and idea but yet no story, much repetetive goals and things to do without space for immersion or getting a bit more into game.

The game starts out a little slow, but if you're a fan of vehicle to vehicle combat and customizing cars to be anything from a racer to a small tank you need to check this game out. I have heard a lot of complaints about this game usually from people who have not played it or people that are blind because this game is great.

    Pros:
-Great car combat and the ability to customize your car. Eg. Harpooning an enemy inside of his vehicle and pulling him through the windshield.
-RPG elements that let Max himself become a better ♥♥♥ kicker
-The hand to hand combat system is not incredibly deep but it can be challenging at times and watching Mad Max pummel some one against a wall or cut them up with a well timed shiv is a lot more satisfying then any fighting game I've played...not a fan of Down,A,X,B,A,Y,X,Left,A to make your fighter spin and shoot a fire ball? Me neither.
-The story starts a little slow after the opening cinematic but it picks up and turns into a pretty epic story. Complete with a dream sequence with a talking dog head on a human body...
-I have a GTX660ti and I have all graphics options maxed out. No lag, No hitching, No Freezing.
-I have seen very few if any bugs so far.

    Cons
-There is some repetitiveness and some grinding involved with the game but I feel the rewards and story are a pretty good pay off.
-The physics can get a bit wonky at times. Eg. I got hit by a car once and instead of getting knocked away I got shot straight up in the air spinning like I was caught in a tornado. Another time the same thing happened to my car when I hit a large rock that an enemy shoved me into.
-Darn Aussies their steering wheel is on the wrong side...

I am sure I have some other minor issues with the game but I have been having so much fun I can't remember what they were...all in all this is an excellent game that well polished and a lot of fun. If you like vehicle combat and at all are interested in Mad Max or post apocalyptic settings then this game is for you.

9.5/10 Would harpoon a man and pull him out of his car again.

    Cons:

-Is a run-of-the-mill open world game

I bought Mad Max on steam right after watching Fury Road a few weeks ago. It was a far more impressive and fun game than I expected. I anticipated a bad, poorly written clone of the movie. Luckily this was not the case: it evokes the feeling of the film while being its own thing.

The game was fun, especially with the car combat. The combat on foot was typical 'batman' combat, and it worked at least, even if it wasn't as fun as the car combat. The car upgrades were introduced slowly but consistently. The game has a definite polish and I don't think I encountered any bugs in my time playing.

In most aspects, Mad Max is a very typical open world game: you drive around, reduce enemy influence, and take over areas. This was fine. Nothing special, but better than you'd expect from a movie-related game.

The only complaint I have is that Mad Max did not hold my interest for long. I primarily started playing after watching Fury Road and I quickly lost interest. I will probably return eventually to finish the game, but it won't be any time soon.

Here's how you enjoy the game.

Scrap collecting single handedly ruins the game because there is too many things to grind out, but guess what. You are on a PC! So go on google and search a mad max trainer, play the game with the unlimited scrap cheat. You still have to grind out other things which is OK. And only use the unlimited scrap cheat, if you use other cheats it'll ruin the fun

The game is optimized to the "Max" on PC, unlike Black flops 3 and some others not worth mentioning. Very fun, fast and addictive. Kind of like crack.

Mad Max is probably the single most, 'I'll just do one more mission - still playing many hours later' games ever. Time vanishes. What you thought was maybe forty-five minutes, was four hours. What you thought was maybe forty-five minutes, was four hours. I think part of the reasoning behind this is because it's repetitive in every way. I am surprised it doesn't get more criticism for this. Everywhere just about looks the same. The camps which you clear are all similar. Scavenging destinations are all similar.

The really only parts that are not all similar are the main missions. However there are not many of those.

Mad Max has other issues too. The engine-exhaust noise of the car is diabolical. I wear headphones and it screams albeit mid pitched (not high pitched) almost all the way through. I play on speakers too and it's as bad. Only later when you get the V8 engine is car noise acceptable.

It is unfortunately nothing more than a long grind, and is possibly the grinder of all grinders. Salvage scrap, unlock upgrades, use scrap as currency to upgrade. From start to finish that is all you do.

It has plus points. It often looks good. Bosses are all the same technique: wait for charge, dodge, attack for a bit; repeat. In other words there is no googling every boss encounter because you can't work out what to do. Gameplay is straight-forward. In fact all the gameplay is relatively easy. It's filled out by there simply being masses of it.

Although I mark it 7/10 I could not in all honesty say to a friend, "You must buy Mad Max". Meaning no recommendation. However if you are fully aware of its format, you will have fun maybe half the time playing it.

Mad Max doesn't take may risks and excels on most aspects. There are two forms of combat: Driving and Fighting. Driving is where this game thrives. The mechanics are solid and easy to get used to. You can kill other divers and destroy enemy cars many ways. You can ram into them dealing more damage depending on the car parts you have, you can use a harpoon and tear off a piece of a car or pull the driver out of the car. You can use the slingshot to instantly kill enemy's and take out fuel tanks/tires but it has very little ammo so it's not recommended. There is a sniper for taking out opponents from a distance, and the thunderpoon which is a explosive harpoon. Well driving you have the help from a hunchback named Chumbuket which easily is the best character in the game. He fires the harpoon and fixes the "magnum opus" which is your car. He loves that car more than anything and you can't help but share the enthusiasum as you dive across the open desert. Fighting is pretty dull. I consists of a lot of button mashing but when you deal enough damage to fill up max's rage meter, Max does a lot more damage. You need to be on foot to take out Scrotus camps and other outposts. The camps have you fighting a bunch of enemy and either destroying feul tanks or destroying something else. In some special camps there is a forgetable boss fight that is always the same. The story is very hit and miss. Compared to the movie it's not as good but it isn't bad either. What makes the story not as good as it should be is Max. I have never seen a charecter in a game that was this stuborn. He very selfish and does all of this just to get his car back!!! His back story is very vague and I found myself caring about Chumbuket more than Max. The other characters are forgettable as well. Scrotus, the main antagonist, appears in the intro cutscence and you don't see him again till near the end. Most characters have no development or personality what so ever. It's not so bad considering the location of the game but it wouldn't of hurt. You have the ability to customize your car to your preference, you cant have a fast weak car, a strong slow car, or a little of both. There was a ton of options to choose from and really added to the gameplay. You can also upgrade your fighting abilitys but those didn't really add much. The problem is fiding the scrap metal to upgrade. Very few things reward enough metal and it can become repetitive searching for scrap all across the giant map. The port is great!!! I was worried after the port failure of Batman: Arkham Knight but this is one of the best PC ports of all time. Tons of customization settings and a FPS that never went below 60 and sometimes went in the 100's sets the far beyond any other PC port of this year. Overall it's a enjoyable experience. Is it great, no, but I still thing this game is worth a look for those interested. It represents the Mad Max universe well and fans of the arkham series should fine this game enjoyable as well. Mad Max gets a 7.6/10 Expand

The Engine is crappy (Assassins Creed engine), same goes for the collectibles - Assassins Creed style, like 1000 to collect for better Gear/Stuff. Story is way too short for that Game, also this Game got only 2 patches and now it doesn't gets updated anymore- but it definitely needs some. Not worth the money, better go get it for free in the Web....

Is it a bad game? Absolutely not. On the contrary, Ubisoft's open-world template is perfect for churning out market-friendly games that tick all the boxes of "What People Want." Or, perhaps, "What You Want."...And honestly, Mad Max's formula is still to some extent "What I Want." Just not as much as a few years ago.

Mad Max is this year’s equivalent of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – a really decent open world game that will not disappoint the fans of the franchise and will win over some undecided gamers, but will not be inducted into the industry’s hall of fame alongside Skyrim, GTA, Black Flag or The Witcher 3. Mad Max is a missed opportunity. The exceptional depiction of the Wasteland, the chaotic nature of the post-apocalyptic society, the excellent technical qualities and thrilling vehicle fights are held back by the mundane melee combat mechanics, the loose story, the repetitive nature of secondary objectives and the overall low-level challenge.
