Jul 13, 2022If you’re looking for a new Metroidvania, and you like your bosses big and your violence sweary, Loopmancer is an absolute treat.
-
Jul 15, 2022Loopmancer is a good game for gamers who want a very specific experience: a mix of action and rogue ideas that tells a cyberpunk-themed detective story. The combat mechanics require time to master and there are solid challenges to engage with. The rogue aspects are a little underdeveloped and it feels like unlocking weapons requires too much money. But the game never tries to innovate in any of the spaces it is working in. It has no ambition other than to deliver a good mix of ideas that can keep players engaged. I wanted to see a cool twist on the cyberpunk future or combat mechanics that expands genres. Loopmancer is a solid experience that never becomes more than its parts.

Jul 13, 2022Loopmance is like a great cover of a classic song, in 2D action-platformer roguelite form. It may not be very creative, but it’s excellent and highly replayable nonetheless.
-
Jul 20, 2022The rogue-lite gameplay and the use of time loops make Loopmancer a game you can't get enough of. With a cyberpunk theme, it also contains elements that resonate with Chinese players. It offers more than 10 hours of great action game experience.
-
Jul 14, 2022Loopmancer wants to be the new sleek, stylish roguelite on the block. Using a veneer of cyberpunk action and frenzied combat, the game often gets by on looks alone. In short bursts it possesses addictive combat that suddenly breaks down when strung together with rudimentary level design and unfulfilling rewards. The narrative has all the charm and trappings of movies so bad they’re good but even that is hindered with frequent breaks in pace. Loopmancer attempts to break out of its genre’s endless cycle but often finds itself shackled to avoidable flaws.
-
Aug 2, 2022It's hard to say that Loopmancer has brought any innovation to the roguelike genre, but it tries its best. The branching and decision-making parts of the story are pretty good, but there are lots of places where it falls short in terms of narration.
-
Jul 20, 2022Loopmancer has all the hallmarks for a phenomenal game, but is just let down by some mechanical issues and a middling story. It’s stellar visual design will reel you into its Cyberpunk world and its fast-paced combat will hook you into trying out even more outlandish varieties of weapons. Unlike most dystopian cities, the rot only occurs at the top and in patches, leaving a healthy and exciting core to explore for a few loops. Just don’t look at the faces, even Dredd couldn’t make them any more hideous.
-
Jul 13, 2022Loopmancer has some nifty concepts and flashy combat. However, it's also bogged down by some simplified mechanics and a hammy narrative.
-
Jul 13, 2022Loopmancer is pure action at the service of a player who wants to exalt himself in violence. It is a game that revels in its viscerality and its bizarre and does not care about its imperfections: but whoever has the pad in their hand realizes it! And it's a bit of a shame, because if certain gameplay elements had been weighed with the slingbar and not cut with the cleaver, it would have been practically indispensable. At present it is only for those looking for an experience with few frills and a voluntarily kitschy (in?) Identity. And that's not necessarily enough, on the contrary.
-
Jul 13, 2022Oftentimes, Loopmancer presents itself as a game struggling with an identity crisis. On the one hand, there exists a solid 2D action-adventure game with enough flair and rigorous combat to be an engaging and tight-knit experience. On the other hand, there exists a roguelite game that struggles to find balance in its execution of the genre and ends up making its gameplay loop needlessly tedious and occasionally dull. Where Loopmancer hits its stride is in its gritty story, frantic action, and striking aesthetic. Otherwise, eBrain’s debut title needs some tinkering with its roguelike premise to create a better-balanced game.
-
Jul 19, 2022Loopmancer can pack a punch, but it falls short of its own goals too often to be particularly memorable.
