Combat and other exploration elements play a bit like Pikmin – you’ll be able to pull a small group of followers around with you, and when you direct them they’ll charge straight forward to attack, dig, chop or similar. The puzzle elements aren’t quite as strong as they are in Nintendo’s franchise, but as basically the only alternative to this kind of game out there, the different tone and sheer creativity on display make it well worth a look.

If the game still remains the little gem of seven years ago, this new PC version has not proven to be equally impeccable.

If you missed out on the game’s original release or the Vita version, New Little King’s Story, the PC version is the perfect opportunity to catch up on this too often overlooked little gem.

Little King's Story reaches a perfect balance between friendliness and depth in terms of gameplay, but not much has been added compared to the Wii version. If you've never played Little King's Story before, this new remastered PC version is recommended.

While the PC port is a little janky, the actual game of Little King’s Story is as instantly likeable as it’s ever been.

It’s fun and challenging, albeit a bit easy, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Little King’s Story is a delightful RPG with around 30 hours of gameplay.

If you've never played Little King's Story before and don't have access to a Wii, then picking up this new remastered PC version is definitely recommended. However, not much has been added or altered to really entice owners of the Wii version to consider upgrading to this one.

Little King’s Story is a great game trapped inside a poor port. The gameplay is fun and genuinely challenging, the art style is cute and enjoyable and the story brings on a satisfying wave of nostalgia. However, imprecise controls, insufficient tutorials and a lack of keyboard support really hurts what should be a great game. Basically, I am recommending Little King’s Story with a huge caveat: if you don’t have a gamepad, don’t bother.

Little King’s Story is a solid game, but a dodgey port.

Another disappointing port of one of the Wii’s best games, although still a clever and entertaining mix of Pikmin and The Settlers.

If you can look past the various issues and shortcomings that have cropped during the transition to the PC, Little King's Story is still one of the most fun games from the original Wii's catalog.

The PC port just isn’t able to capture everything that made the original special, even if the core game is still intact. Little King’s Story feels more like a quick pick-up and put-down instead of a polished and complete product.

'Little King's Story' on PC is a shoddy port of a game that has not aged particularly well. The mouse and keyboard controls are a real pain, and the game is simple enough that they didn't have to be.

While the core in theory is as charming and captivating as it was on Wii the technical shortcomings make this story a very short-lived tale.

Little King’s Story is not the worst port to have ever existed. However, the myriad problems that exist in the game mean the overall experience playing it on PC is badly tarnished. Essentially, it’s just really, really annoying. At the moment it is a bit of a broken mess and, until these issues are addressed anyone wishing to experience this title would do better to revisit the Wii original than waste time or money here.

It’s a crying shame. There’s clearly a game in there that I want to play, filled with cool ideas and interesting quirks, but right now I’d have to dig out the Wii version to experience it without experiencing soul-crushing frustration. If Little King’s Story is ever patched to the point where most of the port-related frustrations are gone, I’d love to give it another shot. As it stands, it’s impossible to recommend due to catastrophic technical issues.
