Lifeless Planet is, unfortunately, a little too lifeless. It starts off well, but the story is boring, the locations are bland and the platforming just frustrates.

The main idea of Lifeless Planet is supported only by its trivial gameplay with no thought. If there is something that can be said about Lifeless Planet for a certainty, it is the fact that it is a game about running and jumping, yet unfortunately, in the most ordinary and tiresome fashion. You may definitely forgo a trip to this planet.

Lifeless Planet is aptly named: The game lacks vitality and the pacing is off. Although only four hours long, the campaign is oftentimes a slog and the jumping lacks the precision the game’s focus on platforming theoretically necessitates. Disappointing.

The game's environments have the appearance of a 3D sandbox but you quickly discover how linear they are. From time to time you'll find a dead-end path with a gameplay-irrelevant collectible doodad perched at the end of it, but the environments offer little of interest outside of the straight-line path to the next platforming segment.

Unfortunately the game-play leaves little to be desired after the first half hour of game-play, sure the visuals are okay, but it's not enough nor quality enough to keep you entranced enough to distract you from how much walking there is to do in this game.

But ultimately, the story just isn't that good of a pay off for the amount of time taken to tell it.

The jumping puzzles are generally okay, except on a level where it hard to tell what surface will kill you; bye bye no-death achievement. The story is interesting enough that kept me going, but has little replay value besides going for the remaining achievements. Full Review »
