Left Alive is a strong contender for the dubious title of The Worst Game Based on a Famous Universe released by a top-tier publisher in this decade.

A very rough attempt at a survival stealth game that squanders an exciting setting and intriguing cast of characters.

Left Alive's mix of inconsistent steatlh and aggravatingly unbalanced action make it a complete chore to play, and it runs terribly to boot.

Left Alive is a disaster by all points of view. Worst AI in over a decade and a boring gameplay with awful stealth phases and inconsistent shooting system.

It shows off a few interesting mechanics which help to save it from certain doom that seems unavoidable if you just look at the abysmal AI or the superficial elements you encounter plenty of times.

This is a poor offering from Square Enix and one that tarnishes what could’ve been a triumphant return to the Front Mission franchise. All the talent and experience in the world from brilliant creators led to this farce of a spinoff. The game might be called Left Alive, but it’s barely breathing at this point.

The characters you play as are caught in the aftermath of battle and the player has to use their wits to survive, gather resources and outsmart overpowering foes. Its a believable setting with a lot of potential. However there are numerous design flaws within the actual gameplay that leave me wondering what the developers were actually doing for 2+ years.

    PROS:
    - Interesting and believable future world setting.
    - Wanzers! Basically the only point in the first couple levels that I felt immersed in the world. Watching these behemoths drop into the map creates a feeling of unease and fundamentally changes how you approach objectives.
    - OST. One of the few things that feels like it has a lot of polish and fits with the environment.

    CONS:
    - Lack of any formal tutorial. I suppose not a complete flaw as it could be by design to force the player to experiment and seek their own means on how to navigate and fight in the world. However I feel it would have made too much sense to include a sort of Basic Training tutorial as the first rookie character as it would fit to develop story and provide context.
    - Clunky movement, animations, and inventory screen. Basically all the things that should be seamless in a modern game but aren't.
    - Really inconsistent AI. You will die a lot, but not always to your own stupidity. Running the same scenario multiple times usually results in different outcomes even though enemy walk cycles tend to be the same. It simply makes getting through a level a chore.
    - Dialogue is hit or miss. Sometimes a dialogue choice will be voiced by the actor, sometimes it won't. However the voice acting itself is really well done and you can feel the emotion behind the character.
    - The AI companion Koshka will alert you by saying "CAUTION AN ENEMY IS APPROACHING" regardless if you're 3 feet or 30 feet from the enemy, whether you see them or not. And 99.99% of the time the player was already fully aware there was an enemy there.

The game itself is not recommended for just anyone as you already would have to enjoy stealth action games like Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid. However to those that might enjoy those genres I would advise to steer clear until the developers add some much needed performance and gameplay changes.

From the premises I would never have expected it, but for me it has reached the levels of technique and excellence of the first three Metal Gear Solids.

    Really all great.

With the exception of graphics, which is not very important in experiences of this type and genre.

The first thing I have to say is that the game undoubtedly represents a hidden gem of this generation.
Because it hides narrative features, and gameplay for the survival stealth genre, really exceptional.
The problem is that it is judged only for graphics in most cases.
    (especially by critics' votes)
This is not to say that the game is perfect.
But that it has received some very trivial critical votes only for the graphics of the game, and they have surprised me a lot.

But what I'm looking for in a game is the challenge.
And this game gave it to me.
