To put it simply, KYN is a fun game that doesn’t do enough to separate itself from the countless other top down-action RPGs.

The partly Dutch Kyn is made by only a few people and that is an amazing accomplishment. The levels look great, the gameplay is great and the game takes about 20 hours. There are a few technical errors, but it is the lack of story and personality that makes this game okay instead of great.

If you like games like Dungeon: Siege and Divinity: Original Sin, Kyn could be a nice choice to be played. The Viking-fantasy-setting is well designed, the combat-system is fast and tactical. The classless RPG-system allows flexible character progression and skill-selection. Some minor bugs and uncomfortable menus are annoying. Graphics are nice and sound is very atmospheric.

Kyn’s mission-based gameplay means you can take an hour at a time and feel like you’ve done a lot. The RTS/RPG style combat is a novel invention and the puzzles are very well designed. Just don’t expect anything earth-shattering here.

An outstanding game considering that it has been done by 2 individuals, but not the best game in its genre by far.

You can tell there's more love than budget behind this game, but it still works. If you're looking for an RPG where you'll do more than clicking your way through battles, it might be a good option.

Even with all of its issues, Kyn is a decent RPG featuring an incredible soundtrack.

If I hadn’t known that Kyn was developed mostly by two people, I wouldn’t have suspected it. It’s hard not to appreciate the surprisingly high quality of their work but on the other hand the project overwhelmed them in some respects. [10/2015, p.64]

If you have some time to kill and are lookigng for some good old fashioned hack & slash action, you could do worse than Kyn. Otherwise, your time might be better spent with a more fulfilling game.

This four-handed designed tactical-RPG is embellished with touches of class, but they aren't enough to raise gameplay from mediocrity.

Kyn is a solidly-crafted RPG with some fun and interesting set pieces, but isn't innovative enough to stand out among similar titles in the genre.

Overstuffed and underdeveloped, Kyn is a buggy RPG with good combat, but without a great story or engaging character progression.

The idea behind Kyn is great, but it suffers from a lot of bugs, problems and half-baked game mechanics.

Kyn is a strategic game that draws inspiration from RPG's like Pillars of Eternity, and monster slaying action elements from Diablo III. The problem with such mix is that it fails to innovate the core essence of the original games due to many technical difficulties and programming bugs. What is left is the free attribute system for characters which is not enough to captivate and engage the player.

A game that showed great promise, but suffers from a severe lack of polish.

Kyn is a nice distraction from other games, but don’t expect it to endlessly enthrall you like other RPGs would. However, the scope of the game is well beyond what you’d expect from the two-man team who coded, created, and designed it.

Kyn seems colorful and promising at first, but in reality it’s unbalanced, derivative and downright boring.

Primarily, the game is not pleasant to play. Technical imperfection, both RPG and combat system are miserable, stupid story, and a bunch of illogicality unfortunately ruins a catchy visual style, pleasant music and satisfying crafting. In the bottom line just an unpleasant taste remains after playing Kyn.

Kyn offers a few good ideas and a nice visual style, but the game itself doesn’t work very well. It has a quite tragic combat system, what should have been the keystone of the game. [Issue#255]

Kyn is a disappointing title. I don't recommend anyone to spend their money and buy a game with a bad and unfair battle system, problematic path finding, shallow scenario, uninspired characters and minimal character customization. Get the soundtrack instead.

Graphics are cartoonish but they are fine, I did not find problems with fps.
It has nice nordic-based storyline but I will never forgive them for not putting map of the city, I suck with coordination. Don't get me wrong, its not awesome game but its playable and I am having fun playing it, its worth a try.
I did not like gameplay a lot, just not my thing, and it pisses me off coz camera is bound to the characters, I would like it more if it had free camera as well as full pause not just timed slowdown. I like crafting system but I do not like character dev a lot, its fine, but could be done better.

Not exciting, not good-looking enough to justify finishing it. My rating is actually lower than average because the interface, while not too shabby, is a bit lacking in comfort and, more importantly, is buggy. Full Review »
