Apr 3, 2025Reading about Koira doesn't convey just how well-designed it is. It's a rare case where every piece of it, from the visual direction to the smallest part of audio design, exists in exquisite harmony. Sure, it still relies heavily on a specific kind of emotional appeal to pull you in, but when everything beyond that is this good, it's easy to overlook.
-
Apr 2, 2025Though its puzzles are simple and the gameplay uncomplicated, Koira delivers a heartwarming little story that is sure to win your heart over a relaxing afternoon, forming a bond between players, the forest, and their little light-up doggy in an artistic little story about friendship and nature.
-
Apr 1, 2025Koira is a melody of friendship, composed by two lone souls on their path to the shared future. This game holds a unique feel, offering to experience a story like many others from a new perspective. By embarking on this emotional journey—sharing every high and low with its endearing characters—no one can emerge from this world unaffected. Beneath Koira's charming exterior lies a poignant exploration of sacrifice: how love may demand everything, and how loss can carve the deepest meaning into our lives. It's a story that lingers, much like the echo of a song you can't quite place.
-
Apr 1, 2025Ultimately, Koira is a game for the cosy-genre lovers as it may not offer intense combat, engaging voice acting or a bustling open-world, but it does provide a heartwarming narrative adventure that explores the bonds we are capable of and showcases the beauty of the world we find ourselves a part of for a limited time.
-
Apr 1, 2025Koira is a beautiful little game that embraces the power of music to tell a story of the importance of nature, friendship, and the power of connection.
-
Apr 1, 2025A touching fable of companionship, Koira is a strong debut title whose thoughtful design belies its simple presentation. Its charming use of music over dialogue, affection for small, quiet moments and simple but clever mechanics create an affecting journey through and with nature.
-
Apr 10, 2025A visually stunning and emotionally reflective indie adventure focused on the bond between a shadowy protagonist and a luminous dog, Koira offers a charming and metaphorical experience with simple gameplay, though it could benefit from more gameplay variety and navigational tools.
-
Apr 1, 2025Koira is a narrative adventure without text or dialogue, delicately depicting the bond between a mysterious being and a lost puppy in an enchanted forest. Through a language composed of gestures, sounds and images, the game offers an emotional and immersive experience, characterized by accessible environmental puzzles and a minimalist but highly evocative visual style. An interactive fairy tale in which the light of friendship guides the way through the darkness. Aside from its enchanting atmosphere, however, the short overall duration and low level of challenge may not satisfy players looking for a more challenging experience.
-
Apr 1, 2025While it does nothing wholly original, Koira achieves exactly what it sets out to do: tell an emotional tale and build a strong foundation for Studio Tolima’s future titles.
-

-
Apr 2, 2025An unusual game that makes you fall in love with a virtual dog without using any dialogue or text. If you're a dog lover, you'll find yourself immersed in the heartfelt cliché of being saved by the dog you chose to save.
-
Apr 1, 2025Koira is an enjoyable video game-fable suitable for everyone, especially those who are not very familiar with video games and want something quick, simple and absolutely non-verbal. The graphics are great, the sound even better, but we admit that it did not impress us all the way through. A couple of plot ideas could have been given more space to make Koira a little more original. As it is, Koira's real limitation is that it doesn't have that knockout punch that makes it an impossible game to ignore. It is 'just' a worthy indie that doesn't waste your time. Still, that's no small feat.

Edge MagazineApr 17, 2025It may not linger in the mind for too long once it's over, but it provides at least an evening's worth of quiet magic. [Issue#410, p.123]

Apr 9, 2025Koira is another minimalist 2D adventure that has a few charming moments and a warm friendship at its core, but doesn't really offer enough to stand out in the crowded genre.
-
Apr 1, 2025Koira lacks in-game substance as it offers little encouraged progression like collectibles or various ways to experience the journey more than once, which could otherwise make it one to remember… Still, the way the game embraces music as the language evokes emotion that players can build upon is introspective. This is where Koira succeeds.

May 17, 2025Koira, published by Don't Nod, is a minimalist and atmospheric adventure game that follows a girl who befriends an injured dog in a snowy forest while evading relentless hunters. With no dialogue, the storytelling relies on player interpretation and a strong audiovisual presentation, featuring hand-painted grayscale landscapes and a musical puzzle system. The gameplay is simple, with intuitive puzzles and basic controls, making it more of a walking simulator than a traditional narrative-driven experience. While Koira delivers an emotionally resonant and visually striking journey, its short length and straightforward mechanics keep it as a pleasant artistic interlude rather than a groundbreaking title.
