If I play any Kohan game, its Ahriman's Gift. The expansion did not bring much in the way of content just some new units... but it's the best of the series. Kohan is the most strategic of any RTS I've played. It had the unique concept of companies rather than individual units which greatly reduced the combat micro allowing greater focus on battle strategy. This was complimented by a great economic model that got rid of the 'resource gatherer' and construction micro of Warcraft series, The biggest drawback to the game was the multi player match making which could not compete with Battlenet. 10 years after release and I still enjoy playing this game. Here we are in 2014 and the best RTS game available to gamers was created in 2001. Kohan Ahirman's Gift and Immortal Sovereigns are brilliant games that still hold up against anything else on the market. Innovative for its time and still not replicated, this is a game you must play to call yourself an RTS fan.

It is just too bad that Timegate ruined the sequel by changing the game and restricting freedom. Now that Timegate is defunct, perhaps someone will pickup the IP and give us a proper reboot/sequel.

  1. A baby-step improvement, not a must-have for owners of the first game.
  2. A new way to look at RTS games and a great story that may change how you view those "other" RTS games.
  3. More content for a brilliant strategy game.
