Sep 19, 2024Knock on the Coffin Lid offers a tried-and-true deckbuilding combat system mixed with a lovingly-crafted world and a treasure chest of possibilities. As such, I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in the genre and systems — just be aware that it’s a long haul and fatigue might set in before hitting the major milestones.

Sep 3, 2024Knock on the Coffin Lid is a good representative of its genre. The core deckbuilding and combat mechanics are good but not revolutionary. After a while, it’s a good idea to turn on fast animations to speed them up. Still, there are cool synergies to find and a wide array of strategies to test and choose from. It takes a little too long to unlock all three heroes and battles can become repetitive when moving through the same spots. But the game is engaging, and the lore and presentation actually enhance the core loop. Knock on the Coffin Lid is fun and will keep gamers fighting and discovering new places across multiple runs.

Aug 23, 2024Knock on the Coffin Lid aims to expand on the gameplay of the Slay the Spire-inspired games by adding an interesting story to follow thanks to charismatic characters, excellent speech, and a highly polished graphical style. Forget the forked progression until you get to the boss, here there is great freedom allowed for exploration thanks to very large maps full of interconnected points of interest. Fighting takes place in the typical style of this genre of video games, and although the many cards available do not introduce great innovation, we are in front of one of the best card battlers around.
