But once you play KCD, you will possibly have trouble to play any other typical RPGs. They will probably look shallow and unrealistic. This game was primarily criticized for lot of bugs. I played this game on my PC in 2020 with all available patches and DLCs (dog included). I rarely met any bug and I was impress how smoothly it worked. For more than 300 hours (finished all quests and maxed everything) the game never crashed (not once). Only sad thing is that the game ended and there is no more story content although even though you can still wander through landscape and discover new things and places and beat more bandits :). Now I finished and discovered whatever was possible. I quit really satisfied but little bit sad it ended. I would really like to see KCD2 (possible) and KCD3 (who knows) and/or some more DLCs (probably not), hopefully Warhorse team under new owner will make it right again. Expand

The game is very interesting in terms of the historical content, its really fun and has a very strange, but unique and hard combat system that works perfectly. The setting is actually really beautiful and the graphics are quite good. Then, the story is good, but nothing extraordinary and so are the characters.
My main issue with this game is the hole ending starting when you enter Vranik and ending with the final main quest, but apart from that the game is great.
Also, remember that this game was not made by a big studio, and warhorse did a fantastic job with this game.
8/10 (would probably be a 9 with a big budget), recommend playing

Visuals are great, mechanics are unique and though they could use polish they are excellent, I practice HEMA and i dear say this is some of the better swordsmanship in games. I would also love to see them do some fantasy games, though playing against a troll with realistic swords might be hard. 450 hours played at the moment.
Little sad about lack of options for horse back combat, such as lances, the lack of blacksmithing, which i believe was mentinoned, in the early dev, and i hoped for a little more castle combat. All in all i would say, the only thing we need is more, more of everything.

    - Some smaller bugs remain, for example NPCs who stand in front of a wall, staring at it. But the remaining bugs are so small that I don't care about them

I would give this game a 9/10. A must-have for evey middle ages fan. I had a lot of fun with it and I was looking forward to getting home from work to continue playing!

This game is made with so much love and so many mechanics that is only held back from a 10 because of the smaller bugs.

Edit: after another playthrough with almost all DLCs finished (thanks to DLCs' incompatibility with mods that actually make the game playable) I raise my score from butthurt 4 to 7. It's kinda good game but very unpolished and it won't become one because the devs ended their support

Why wasn't Henry alloud to avenge his parents and retrieve his two father's sword. If those missions were included. Including saving your king Wenceslas. I would give it a 10 out of 10 Expand

As for the gameplay, it is good, but at the time of 2020, there are still bugs (not significant), the terrain is poor, but the appearance is rare.
Disappointed Plotva (roach), she is not alive, this is a stupid machine.

Were they fullfilled? In a way, yes. But they also higly exceeded them in a lot of different ways as well.

I have more than 60hrs of gameplay behind me, I played all of DLCs (Royal Edition) as well and I will try to highlight most importat things, pros and cons of this game:

+ Everything in this game is --really-- realistic and since it is a simiulation of a real world, you have to accept the fact, that there is no magic (only sharlatans and cheaters). This may not seem as a "pros" for a game, but trust me, it'll help you feel "as you were there".
+ Every game mechanic is beleviable and trustworthy. Lockpicking, stealth (remember that in Skyrim with high level Stealth you could do almost everything? Not here), and of course - fighting. It is a huge satisfaction to see Henry "rise" with you as you understand and learn basic of archery and sword-fighting. You'll probably hate it for a few hours at start, but then you'll begin to love it and then most of the games in comparison will begin to look a bit dull.
+ Story and most of the quest are a true masterpiece. Of course there are some dull quest with bring me this and that sort, but sometimes you'll feel truly amazed and you will cry a tears of joy as well (Father Goodwin quest is certainly the best one).
+ In a way it is a trully hardcore experience but still there are a lot of mechanics that will ease your pain. There are only a handful of moments where will you hate the game for being so hardcore. Most of the time it s a fair challenge and satisfaction which comes in hand with this is just wonderful.

    - There are minor bugs still even after two years. Some of the quest needs to be reloaded and played again, though I have never had a problem which would made any quest unfinishable.
    - Optimisation of the game is not the best, that is the fact, but if you have 2020 machine, it should be mostly ok with this 2018 title. I had only a few moments that my framerate dropped under 30fps while playing on High/Ultra settings and fullHD resolution.
    - a very few quest are a bit dull and it's clearly just a reason to lenghthen the game itself.

Overall this a true masterpiece of a game industry and one of the games which will help in a other fields like history classes. This game is a work of art and brilliance.

    Go get it.

As you walk in the villages, you talk to people, you travel towards cities, all you can think of is how all of that feel realistic and immersive. You go through forests and fields or woods, it all feel so Medieval, it' really impressive. The first sensation i had when I start the game was calm, the beautiful and peaceful sensation that you can have only when you see paintings or imagines representing the Middle Ages. Makes you really want to experience that. The story of Henry is really engaging. You will escort him to his growth path from a simple young and restless peasant to a brave man. As you can expect from a game set in that time, the story will be very epic, manly and chivalrous. Every actions and decisions you make have consequences. The gameplay as many have said is difficult, expecially the combats, but for me this was another thing that adds verisimilitude to the quest. If you like the aesthetic of the this historical period you will love it. I cannot give anything less than 10/10. Amazing job by Warhorse Studios. One of the best, if not the best, RPG I ever played. The interface is mediocre at best. It doesn't present information in a clear or useful fashion and you must do everything manually.

The combat is beyond abysmal, that's not to say it's difficult, it's just not fun. Characters move like they're underwater and there are dice rolling mechanics that shouldn't exist.

Don't buy this pile unless you just want to wander around the countryside.

The quantity in this game is huge, the voice acting is well done. Most side quests are interesting too. Enemies, however, only fight human ( and dog if you have dlc), it will get repetitive overtime.

In sum, it is great big game with some flaws. I spent 50+ hrs mostly enjoying it. If they have ending that at least decent for normal game I would give a 9/10. Alas, this one is one of worst endings in my opinion of games and movies, Epilouge is also boring and unnessesary so the score down to 8/10. I hope KCD 2 don't have this kind of unfinished ending.

Despite taking the lower of the two-tier difficulty settings I was completely unable to win a fist fight in in this game. And I found out that if you die, that's it. No re-spawning. You're dead, game over. That's enough to turn anyone off right there. I'm glad I tested it by picking a fight with a soldier. I though, wow! Death is final in this game. Do not pass go. And then I thought, A game with combat in which death is completely final? You've got to be kidding me! Imagine playing an RPG for 200 hours and then completely losing all your progress just because you die. That's really bogus. The objectives are not focused. You're given multiple objectives in a single quest with some of them not even related. Which is annoying and confusing and makes little sense. The compass guide is confusing. If the objectives are coded in alphabetical order, why am I able to access the characters and situations out of order? Why not code Objective A to be accomplished first before Objective B even opens up? As far as I am concerned none of the other objectives should even be crowding the compass menu until the first objective is accomplished. We don't need all the letters showing up and it just confuses the issue and kind of interferes with you visually trying to reach your objectives. Many players would certainly be as confused as hell as to what they are actually supposed to do. I also found very annoying the constant multiple choice decision prompts. I really don't want to be making decisions like that every step along the way. You keep wondering if you made the right one or if you have now completely ruined your game. I'd rather not have that many choices. And I don't think it is really necessary to constantly present so many choice menus like that. I mean, they're constant. You're constantly being prompted to make various decisions. Annoying as hell. In summation I would call this game extremely annoying and don't recommend it to anyone. Nobody wants an RPG in which death is final and makes you start all over again. I notice those giving positive reviews never mention the sudden death thing. I'm giving it a "1" for passable animation and graphics. But the graphics are not exactly up to modern standards. The people don't look quite as realistic as in other games released in the last several years. There are games of the same age that have much better graphics. RDR2's graphics make this game look sick. Expand

I got this game for free and came in knowing nothing, but it magically satisfied a decade of gaming disappointment for me in one fell swoop. I'm only 30 hours in and haven't even learned how to read yet, but this game does everything I wish Elder Scrolls and Assassin's Creed did put together.

I've read that the game was super buggy, but I haven't had any serious bugs yet, so I'm guessing those were ironed out in patches.

The writing and world building are brilliant. The difficulty is perfect. The characters have depth and feel real for the time, especially compared to the action movie archetypes you get in Assassin's Creed or the flat algorithmic entities in Elder Scrolls.

Everything has weight to it and each battle feels like a struggle in the best way possible. While hand to hand combat is clunky and the five-prong attack system feels like a less robust version of Skyward Sword's sword combat, it still doesn't take away the fun you'll have. Quests are as various as they are multifaceted. The story is surprisingly well told with a great main character, Henry. I also have to commend the designers on presenting the world of 15th century Bohemia as it was. No modern day revisionism. No tongue in cheek critiques on their culture/religion. They show you the world and how it is, nothing more and certainly nothing less. This is perhaps one of the best RPG's in the past decade if not the best. Recommended to all RPG fans. Expand

«Kingdom Come: Deliverance» is RPG taking place in 1403 Bohemia, Czechia, dark medieval times for the Roman Empire, when the civil war occurred between two brothers – Wenceslaus the 4th and Sigismund the Hungarian king. More precisely the subject moves around Henry, blacksmiths son, who wants to return his sword and his honor. Henry turns to serve sir Radzig Kobyla and investigate for him some bandit mystery connected to the war.

The main thing is «Kingdom Come: Deliverance» delivers unprecedentedly immersive simulation to medieval times at its core. As Henry you will eat at the tavern, sleep on the hay, hunt with your lord and your doggie, fight for your life and your honor, be a peasant or be a lord yourself. There are also possibilities to thieving and romancing or just visiting the baths, if you know what I mean... And many other things you would do in medieval times. As from being a monk to building your own village as a richtarge.

And maybe even more importantly you will be enjoying the views, the wild, pastoral life, beautiful rivers and lakes. Live the real life connected to the nature once again, because Kingdom Come delivers this possibility to appreciate the nature and beauty of contemplation. While on horse of without it, imagining yourself a knight or a peasant, you will be appreciating the sights in this game every time.

Between this you will experience the joy (or maybe not so much) of learning essentials about the game – from the gameplay to the politics. Gameplay wise the game is a perfect RPG, unless a bunch of annoying bags happening every now and then. Fighting is fun, thriving is fun, bargaining is fun, even surviving is fun, if you appreciate the immersion. Only the fighting system can come not the type for everyone and has some unexpectedly funny tree climbing during the epic fight. But features like combat wheel, wheel of thieving, running wheels from your enemies will keep you on pace.

Story is good, but sometimes subtle – realistic while has its medieval epic in it. With the additional quests combined it becomes the true journey all across medieval Bohemia with its anecdotic and anecdotal antiquity.

All in all, if searching for that type of experience, would highly recommend. It has everything if only not the pure action.
9 of 10 for perfect immersion and interesting game on its own.

The characters are actually interesting and the quests, including the sided quest, are fun and you care about their stories because the dialogue is put together really well. The world is interesting to traverse, the forest feels like a real forest and not just the same tree copy and pasted multiple times, the towns feel authentic and it's real easy to become immersed in this game, until you have to do anything.

I understand the game goes for a real feeling but it's too much to the point where it feels clunky and simple tasks feel tiresome. The combat is by far the worst, the lock-on is awful and sticks you to a enemy so hard it's almost impossible to turn and run, which is impossible on it's own because all enemies are Usain Bolt and can slash you while you run which you cannot do. And then there's archery, good luck because all enemies are snipers that can almost kill you with one shot and for your character you might as well be using a Nerf bow and arrow, even if you somehow land a head shot it does nothing to them. By far the worst of all is getting stuck, I got stuck several times most times having to reload and try again, as soon as things like that happens in a already frustrating game-play i find it hard to enjoy a game. But the war it happened multiple times where I would get stuck between a ramp and a slight incline of the ground, that's insane how this gets through QC, and then when my guys had to ram a door they were glitched out against the castle wall and the quest couldn't continue, I'm sorry but your game is unplayable and i can't give it anymore of my time it.

I wish i could like this game, i even thought i was loving this game, but bad mechanics, op archers, and just all around broken game-play makes it impossible to enjoy this game no matter how good the story is. For that reason this game goes in my bad pile because glitched out NPCs breaking the game.

There really is too much to list and mention, lots of skills to master and you can only level up a skill if you're using that skill. I adore this type of a progression system, it makes for more fun and more overall play. You are able to train with npcs to gain experience in combat, not only are you getting better proficiencies but you actually have to get better yourself via M&K or controller. It's a skill game and the game is not going to hold your hand.

The combat system is brutal and very frustrating at first, you will find yourself pulling your hair out when you have two guys lopping long swords at you pummeling you with one hit knocking you down. The combat in KCD is very brutal and realistic, once you start grasping the controls and practicing and learning and training and training (seriously...name of the game is training) it gets more fun and less frustrating, stick with it and learn the combat learn how to defend yourself and attack correctly.

This isn't a game you just rambo in and hack and slash... tried it.. failed miserably. That is what makes this game stand out above the rest...realism to the bone. All in first person so when you receive a blow to the old head.. your vision is getting twisted just like it would in rl. Your head almost does a 180..lol Good times.

Easily one of the best most detailed RPGs I have ever played. Every medieval gamer must own Kingdom Come Deliverance.

There is no character creation system, you play as a specific guy in history with almost no choices of your own to make. Don't want to be a Christian? Too bad. Don't want to be a male? Too bad. Don't want to be an SWM? Too bad!
The only reason to even play this is the combat mechanics.

    - Story: one of the best I've experienced in my entire life and I have been gaming for more than 25 years. really engaging story. even most side quests have small interesting stories behind them.

    - Graphics: absolutely incredible. I've never seen any more realistic depiction of nature in a game before. it seems every inch of the game world is handcrafted with great amount of attention to detail instead of just copy pasting like it is done in other open world games. you don't see this attention to detail even in triple A titles from big, rich developers.

    - Gameplay: combat system is one of the best. at first it felt clunky but after several hours of playtime it became very satisfying and rewarding. it's not just button mashing, you have to learn how to fight, you have to think before every move.

    - Sound and music and voice acting: great specially if you consider it's from an independent developer with not so big budget.

    - Atmosphere: you can really feel the atmosphere of middle ages. very realistic and accurate in my opinion.

    Cons

    - Bugs: as of now despite many patches(game version 1.9) there are still some bugs. imagine how buggy it was on release date.

    - Performance and optimization: this game requires high end GPU and CPU. even on a top end PC, frequent frame drops can occur specially in big cities. also SSD is a must. at first I installed it on a HDD and the experience was frustrating to say the least. long loading times everywhere. just starting a conversation with random NPC leads to several seconds of watching loading screen. exiting the conversation also another several seconds. every single activity needs loading time, surprisingly long too. even textures takes a long time to load, sometime it takes more than five seconds to appear on objects around you! loading time on HDD was extremely nerve-racking. but installing it on SSD solved most of those issues. texture loading issue is fully solved and loading times are now greatly reduced. if you don't have a SSD just forget about this game unless you have the patience of a saint.

Overall this game is great, I would give it 9 because of bugs and those performance issues but I have not enjoyed a game this much at least over the last decade so how can I give it less than 10.

It's biggest value comes from its historical accuracy and swordplay. A lot of time is wasted on running around on errands, which might accurately portray the life of a medieval peasant but does not make for an enjoyable game.

I myself live in Europe and the graphics and atmosphere are extremely authentic. The woods really feel like European woods. And they arent empty either! There are bandits, loggers, many different animals, people in distress, patrols, people who try to screw you over, etc.
The villages and cities all feel very alive and have their real day and night cycle. For example you wont find an open store at night, but you might find the shopkeepers and guards that had a shift at day in a tavern. The guards will stop you and search you if you look suspicious and at night will scold you if you dont have a torch out.
The story is extremely diverse, too. You can do good things, not so good things and bad things. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. Even the superstition of those times is very well depicted.
The dialogue is very good and sometimes even very deep. The characters are all likable (or unlikable, if intended). You might even start to like some characters that you disliked before, because they are so well made and with time show their real personality. The side quests are actually really fun and dont feel like MMO quests, like in most other games nowadays. And they can be mostly completed (or messed up) in different ways.
And theres no modern political/PC/SJW BS, which would only destroy the historical accuracy.
However the politics of that time are very well depicted. Sometimes you will hate them, yet have to follow them (or dont, if you want and take the consequences). But other times you will at first think they are horrible, only to realize people really arent all stereotypes and actually have their own mind.

Sure, it has quite a few bugs. Even today still. But they are tolerable, because the game blows you away with everything else. And if you save the game regularly, you can dodge them one or the other way almost completely.

I cant really describe it any other way than as a masterpiece of art. It helped me rediscover my love for medieval history, too.

Even if you pirated this game, you should realize how well it was done and still buy it so they can do a sequel.
And the sequel will be an instant buy for me, and I normally dont buy games at release.

Just having every character greet you with "Jesus Christ be praised" while signing a cross or having a guard stop you at night because you aren't carrying a torch just amuses me. The progression system is one of a kind. Not in the sense of what it offers, but in the way it goes about doing it. You start off as an extremely incompetent soldier and the game makes you feel it. You are terrible at combat, lockpicking, etc. almost to the point of frustration. But you don't just magically get better by pouring a few skill points into a category. You must continuously progress until you are confident at the skill. Everything feels earned and worked for. You aren't some wonder child or even an average joe. But this allows you to learn the game systems and really feel like your skill as a gamer makes progress. Most quests are well thought out, none of them are simple or predictable. great variety.

Cons: The story is a bit lackluster. Its not bad, just won't knock you off your feet or leave you feeling satisfied. The man character Henry is extremely static. I progress through most of the story, killing many man and saving many, but he had the same sense of being inferior as if he didn't notice all the heroic acts that he had done. Some of the quests can be TOO tedious. You think you are in for a simple task, however it has so many twists and turns that it might deter some from enjoying the game. It took me a week (with normal everyday life in between) just to complete one quest ! The equipment is a little lacking. You never really feel the need to switch weapons often because they are all pretty standard. There are a lot of useless skills that really play no role in the game. Loading times are EXTREMELY annoying. Many load screens. Also bugs.

I haven't completed the game yet but I find it really captivating and overall a very satisfying experience for a hardcore gamer. Of course there are some questionable moments like e.g. when you put people unconscious they don't alert the guards after waking up, you only can buy a horse and can't tame horses you find in bandit camps, there are no wild animals in forests (at least, I didn't find any), etc. But I'd call those moments pretty insignificant. This is a game you need to take time to play. If you rush it, you will be annoyed by the chores the game puts you through.

    It has some problems.

    - The worst fighting mechanics in any game I've ever played. They tried to make it realistic, but that failed miserably and it's the reason this game is not an easy 9 or even 10. It all just feels slow, clunky and unresponsive, even at high skill levels.

    - The AI is crap. Enemies can track and attack you during pitch black night.
    - There's a save game limit and the players need to manage (i.e. delete) their save games.
    - Issues with impassable terrain like ledges you should easily be able to pass.
    - You can get stuck in trees.
    - The save system is supposed to make decisions important, but it can be frustrating sometimes. After losing half an hour of progress, you just want a regular saving system.
    - No inventory management (mark as trash etc.). Mount inventory not available from vendor screen.
    - Sometimes you get a bounty on your head and it's not clear why.

I know the developers wanted the game to be immersive and unforgiving, but I think making it a bit more user friendly and accessible, like The Witcher 3, would have been better.
It's their vision and how they like the game to be and I accept that, but despite liking a lot of things about the game, the issues -especially the combat and saving systems- prevented me from finishing the game.

The story has many hallmarks of a typical RPG (poor boy in village is one of the few survivors after evil army attacks, etc) but there's something... quirky about it that makes it lovable.
(When you're not able to read, all written text is gibberish.. and it only comes with practice!)
The clunky and hard to master combat adds to the magic of old school games that don't make it easy for you - yet entertain you as you suffer.

Ultimately, it's not a masterpiece in any of its many pieces, from dice, horseriding, sword fighting, stealth or whatever. I could be critical of pretty much everything..
But it's clearly a product of love and it's very enjoyable to explore the country side and the game mechanics.

Mainstream games nowadays don't even try to make anything novel and just throw generic stuff at players. Here, they tried to do a lot, they couldn't manage to deliver half of their ambition... it's clunky... but you can feel the passion put into the game.

A solid +50 hours of enjoyment here. Get the DLCs too, particularly the Woman's Lot. It adds some of the most interesting sides of the game.

I've spent massive amounts of time on this game, which mostly had to do with exploring the gorgeous landscape and killing every bandit, Cuman and traveler on sight and searching for hidden treasure chests. the simple card playing game at the taverns was also more fun than it had any right to be.
Combat is a mixture of Dark Souls' typical stamina management, blocking and evading attacks and Mount & Blade's directional attacks; fighting is generally fun, if you're not overwhelmed by big amounts of robbers at once.

Kingdom Come is a flawed but still immensely enjoyable open world RPG. If good games instill the feeling of being transported, Deliverance achieves this by being a compelling portrait of medieval life in Bohemia. As of now it is one of only a handful of purely non fantasy RPGs, which I am always going to prefer to the nth standard fantasy game.

Upon the release the PC version is the only reasonable way to enjoy Kingdom Come. And there’s a lot to enjoy, because historically accurate Middle Ages are an awesome setting. The beginning of the game might not be spectacular, but give Deliverance a chance and it will develop into a unique, deep, gripping experience. [04/2018, p.42]

A robust RPG deserves your attention not only for its domestic origin. You will easily forgive its smaller mistakes because of a great narration and a complex gameplay. [Issue#283]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a different kind. It's incredibly absorbing in its pace, it amazes with a manically detailed medieval era features and a totally true atmosphere, a series of skillfully built quests and, and when you get used to it, a fantastic combat system. There is a one-too-much cliché in the story arc, but the main problem lies in the technical issues. The game is, however, such a remarkable, huge, different and fresh experience that the occasional bug can be simply ignored.
