A new grounded and sometimes truly bizarre adventure across the well-known regions of medieval Bohemia sets our beloved Henry of Skaliz on a colourful path created by brushes and strokes of a mysterious painter. He’s not interested in sharing, death follows him wherever he goes and his weird requests produce truly unique scenarios. Alongside a new story came a few gameplay elements such as shield painting, horse racing or even haircuts, which all eagerly await the return of the blacksmith hero.

Brushes With Death may not be as big and sophisticated as the main scenario, but for being a post-launch DLC, it packs a lot of fun and value for its price point. Add to that the other extra content its patch brought alongside it, and there could hardly be a better time to get into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, except maybe after the remaining story DLCs come later in the year. If you enjoyed the game but hadn’t given thought to the game’s DLC pass or even just this specific one, this content is most definitely worth the price of admission. You may even find yourself re-loading previous saves to explore the different ways you can approach it.

Brushes with Death, the first major DLC for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, unfortunately clearly falls short compared to the base game. While its plot offers some good moments and bears the hallmarks of quality writing from Warhorse Studios, it largely fails to effectively engage the player. With its tedious medieval fetch quests, a narrative entirely centered on an otherwise perfectly secondary character, an underwhelming new exclusive mechanic, and disappointing rewards, this is a picture that we believe will have a hard time selling, despite a rather reasonable price.
