Keep Driving

Keep Driving is an incredible road trip adventure game, truly living up to the vibe of an early 2000s drive across the country. Every aspect of the game wowed me, and I was left with no desire other than to get even more from the experience. Here’s hoping the developers launch some future DLC for the game.

Keep Driving is about that brief moment of time when you get that freedom to pick up and go. Safety net? You have family. Obligations? You’re young and unencumbered. Opportunities? They’re absolutely everywhere. Each run can and will feel different, as there are so many options and multiple endings. The only downside is, if you marathon it and take multiple trips in a row, you may get bored due to how repetitive and easy it can be. Still, the road is open ahead of you, and it’s a joy to take off and drive.

Keep Driving is a game that envelops you with its music, graphics and plot. The stories of the hitchhikers you pick up, the missions they give you, the difficulties you encounter on the road, the paths waiting to be explored, and the suddenly flat tire or running out of gas make the game a perfect road story.

Keep Driving is a true gem worth your time. It’s immersive, nostalgic, and packed with captivating stories and encounters. With one of the best soundtracks and atmospheres in gaming, it delivers a road trip adventure you won’t forget.

Keep Driving may seem just like a car management sim, but it is so much more than that. It makes you take your time and focus on the necessary things; meaning it makes you think about the importance of being mindful and taking care of yourself. It is also a charming tribute to life on the road in the early 2000s before social media made adventures like this not so freeing and exciting. It challenges you with how you must continually manage your environment and self and gives you the autonomy to decide exactly what this road trip will look like for you. But, as the game says, you’re young – you’ve got time! So, slip in a Swedish indie CD, fill your tank and get ready to experience a cosy, yet exciting road trip and if all else fails – keep driving.

Keep Driving is a charming, captivating and moving roguelike unlike any we've ever seen before, weaving an introspective and meaningful slice-of-life narrative while without sacrificing gameplay and interactivity. There's room to improve, sure, but that doesn't mean that the final product falls short by any means (and we all know by now that roguelike titles like this are ripe for updates and content expansions). At the risk of being overly sappy, it's a game that really does keep us wanting to keep driving.

Overall, I was hooked by the atmosphere and easy-to-learn management of this summer road trip. In a time where games can be a wonderful escape from current world events, Keep Driving brought me back to a younger time when a car meant freedom and opportunity, and a reminder of those good times was more than welcome. As such, Keep Driving is an easy recommendation for sure!

Keep Driving offers us a very original experience, focused on sensations and decisions, where each choice opens the door to a new trip. It is a game designed to be completed multiple times, since a single trip is not going to be representative of everything it has to offer, and for that reason we believe that it should have gone deeper into its systems, but we understand that the experience it seeks is a more relaxed one; an experience that fits with that nostalgic proposal of the road trip. It is not perfect, but if you enjoy different games, which are out of the ordinary, and you fancy a trip where each route is an invitation to build your own story, we believe that it deserves a chance.

Keep Driving answers the question "what if Out Run took a degree in philosophy?" Halfway between a proper video game and an experience, it's impossible not wanting to keep driving.

Often in Keep Driving, I would pour what resources I had into fueling my next leg of the trip before taking off again, hoping for good luck on the road. Keeping everything running smoothly could be a stressful pursuit, but the unpredictable events, hazardous challenges, and stimulating connections kept my hands firmly on the steering wheel.

Keep Driving is a chilled out car management RPG that offers simplistic battles and some fantastic visuals, with a cool soundtrack and a nice chilled out vibe.

If Keep Driving isn't the Kerouacian roman-a-clef you might hope for, every trip will leave you with something to remember it by. [Issue#408, p.116]

It brings together all of its systems to create narratives that unfold organically and that are easy to get lost in. You may encounter the same hitchhikers or the same quests across two different runs, but the stories won't be the same. It's about the journey, not the destination.

Keep Driving knows it’s all about the journey rather than the destination, and it perfectly captures the feeling of being young and free and foolish. The learning curve is initially steep, and the encounters can eventually get repetitive, but it offers a beautifully drawn and wonderfully charismatic adventure that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Those very minor issues aside, Keep Driving is one of the most impressively original and utterly charming games you’ll play this year. Regardless of where you’re headed, I promise you the journey will be worth it.

Keep Driving thrives in both its simplicity and eccentricity. It’s a road trip game where your car takes center stage, yet there’s no actual driving gameplay, while also, it features a JRPG-lite turn-based combat system for overcoming various obstacles. It certainly works, successfully capturing the essence of a legendary road trip where the journey is worth so much more than the destination.

Keep Driving is a road trip themed adventure-RPG with resource management elements that takes you on a cross-country journey in the warm confines of your car. With familiar RPG elements, stunning pixel art, tons of content to discover, this road trip fantasy will surely be a great addition to any cozy RPG fan’s library.

The game is relatively monotonous and really quite boring in its gameplay loop. The reason I'm giving it a recommendation is because Keep Driving is very much a "vibes" game, and you'll know if you're in tune with that after watching the trailer. The pixel art graphics are gorgeous and the soundtrack features a couple of Swedish indie bands I've never heard of before, but which have been on repeat in my music app ever since.
