A bit of X-files .. and a huge portion of Gravity Falls. The story is charming and well told. The visuals are striking and very atmospheric. The musical score ... well, i have heard better.

The protagonist and all the people in the game have sufficient personality .. with the protagonist not being fully sympathetic but socially flawed like other characters, too. The only thing i did

The only thing i did not quite like was the controls - clearly its not a point and click adventure but one made for game pads. I find a game pad FAR inferior to mouse and keyboard in such an adventure game and in fact .. i am sure mouse controls would have been much better .. but it is what it is.... .
Also not to my liking was the checkpoint save system instead of a normal game save.

Other than those minor nitpicks .. a game worth its money and time for sure! ... just do not expect tough puzzles .. it certainly is on the very very easy side of adventure .. pretty much solves itself.

Fascinating visuals, great soundtrack, amazing sound design, lovely characters and cute 4th wall breaks. Sherlock inspirations, detective elements and enjoyable riddles. A mystery and immersive scenario. Surprisingly a dark story. This game is made with passion and I loved this game !!

The story was much darker than I expected, and the game was really scary at some times. I liked detective deductions. And the characters were nice.

Not going to spoil anything because the mystery is kind of cool but the final scene left me saying "Nah, **** this".
Play it if you don't mind a bit of tedious gameplay, horrible controls and a lackluster ending but also cool characters cool dialogue and cool mysteries. Good experience but I wouldn't play it again.

Maybe the worst video game I've ever played? I don't think I've ever seen clumsier writing or less ambitious execution. Let me get this out of the way - there is basically no gameplay. The platforming is so bad that I'm being generous when I say "Let's just pretend that doesn't exist." Same for the puzzles. Mostly, this is a visual novel with very, very poor writing. Mostly, this is a visual novel with very, very poor writing. But perhaps worst of all, even if you were to LIKE this game (and my friend, I don't think you will), it doesn't have an ending. It's not a game awaiting a sequel. It literally stops right when the story gets going, right when it's got like 60% of its storytelling duties unfinished, and drops a big ol' "To Be Continued" on the sorry ass of any fool foolish enough to hope that there is anything - ANYTHING redeemable here. Sadly, there really isn't. Expand

For a game that is so thin and unimaginative throughout, a lack of resolution to its already creaky, lame plot is just mind-blowingly lazy. The final moments of this game could have been replaced with the text: "We ran out of money and can't be bothered to even attempt to tie up ANY of the threads we've spun up. We don't respect our audience, **** you," and I would have at least appreciated the directness. As it stands, this game is an incomplete, janky mess. The devs should be ashamed to be asking for even a single full dollar in exchange for an incomplete game. Expand

At it’s core it has a lot of charm and is just very likeable. The characters have depth and humour; the town has history and class; the world has a brightness and great art design to it. The music was enjoyable although a bit repetitive. The puzzles are a very mixed bag and the game has some technical warts but nothing that is game breaking. The game consists of using the keyboard to move Jenny along in a side scroller manner and solving various puzzles to progress the story. You get the option to choose various dialogue responses in between the puzzles. You also get to interrogate various people by having to notice certain clues on their person and then using those clues to form a correct hypothesis about whatever you suspect them of. Many of the puzzles are very easy and just overly apparent what you have to do to solve them but there were these radio wave puzzles where you have to adjust a variety of dials and switches to just the right combination to hear the message or see the video, I found these very annoying. It would have been better had the dial or switch locked in when it was in the right spot so that I wasn’t constantly readjusting them. There were two puzzles that stood out to me as better examples of what the game had to offer and that was the graveyard puzzle where you have to find the correct grave to search by deducing which of them were tallest based on their statements and the vending machine puzzle where you had to not only figure out the code to purchase an item but also which buttons to press as all of them were linked to a different character than it said. Both of those required you to think and use logic but neither had the annoying fiddling that the radio wave puzzle had. There were a variety of mini games you do in order to proceed past certain points such as picking locks and breaking wooden barricades. Both were simple but gave some variety to the game play. The lock picks just required you to find the correct places to hit the tumblers and the barricades just required you to find the cracks on each plank of wood. The story was really well done and had a good amount of twists. It also did a good job of using the stories author as a narrator and I found many of his comments about Jenny’s escapades to be pretty funny. The game ends on a cliffhanger which annoyed many people but I didn’t mind it. I won’t let the last few minutes of a game ruin the previous many hours of enjoyment I had.

I played Jenny LeClue – Detectivu on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t encounter any bugs. I played version 1.0.15(2) of the game. There was only one graphics option to choose besides your resolution. Alt-Tab didn’t work. The game used the Unity engine. You can’t manually save the game. The game auto saves at checkpoints and there is only one save slot that gets overwritten each time. While this is less than ideal one thing I did like was that the game tells you how many minutes ago it last saved in case you forgot. It does display a saving logo as well when it occurs. One strange decision the game made was to only use the keyboard. Your mouse can’t be used to control jenny; click on objects; or to browse the menus. In this day and age that is just strange for a PC game to not have mouse support. I don’t feel that it hindered the game too much but at the very least mouse support on the menus would have been appreciated. While I wasn’t able to log frame rate in this game I didn’t notice any lag at all on the high setting, it was always smooth.

    RAM Usage: 2-2.6 GB

One game that comes to mind to compare Jenny Leclue to is Oxenfree in that it is a dialogue heavy puzzle game. Overall the bad puzzles; auto saves and lack of mouse support didn’t overshadow the rest of the games positives. I adored the characters; the town; the story; the humour and the dialogue. I finished my first play through in 10 hours and 2 minutes. I paid $24.99 CAD for the game and feel that is about right for what you get although on the high end of that spectrum.

This game starts off with a bang. I loved the visuals, the music, and the atmosphere and tone this game had. It even lampshades this in the form of a reluctant author who's being told to write darker, *less* kid-friendly stories.

However, toward the end of this game, it increasingly gave me the impression that the developers were running out of money and needed to get something out the door. The color palette used, while impressive throughout the game, became increasingly colorless, the level designs felt like they increasingly kept making me backtrack to pad out the level length, and most importantly, the game ends on an out-of-nowhere cliffhanger that made me yell "What?" to my iPad.

I found out later how this game was formed through a Kickstarter campaign, but seemed to have several promised components left out. That campaign met a stretch goal that should have included voice acting (something that would have added a *lot* to the game, similar to how the voice acting made Tangle Tower go from ok to amazing), but didn't meet a goal to include a 2nd part. The game was also not marketed as a "part 1" game, nor is there any clue as to whether a sequel is or will be in the works.

So, while this started out really positively, I was massively disappointed in the cliffhanger ending. While I would play a sequel if it were to come out, I have no idea if or when that will happen.

Jenny Leclue is practically a story in game form, it tells the story of a writer who has the Jenny Leclue book series, and we'll play this "story" that he's writing.

It's a game to de-stress, play calmly, as if you wanted to read a book. The characters are interesting and the mysteries are intriguing. The only problem, which made me go down the game a lot, is that it leaves more open

The only problem, which made me go down the game a lot, is that it leaves more open ends for a sequel than answers, really, the company bet on the game's sale because without a sequel everything would be open in the game.

I recommend waiting for the sequence before buying, so you don't get frustrated.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its REALLY good the grafics are stunning and everything looks so good, the scenes are fun a nd stuning, the caracter desing is incredible and the voice acting is everything. The gameplay is fun quick and really entretaning, I only have some minor problems like, the gallery art thingis sometimes are fun to find but most of the time are annoying like for example (spoilers) when Jenny is in the mine trying to hide from the shadow man a random one appers and takes tencion out of the scene and this happens many times, an intresting or tence scene its interrupted beacose you have to stop open the magnifing glass and look for the thingy and grab it its annoying but outside of that and some other little stuff this game is so fun i recomend it to everyone who loves mystery games. The charming protagonist is crushed under the weight of a lack of challenge, and sheer boredom. First of all, this isn't an adventure game, but an interactive novel - albeit a very good one, but it has a mind-numbingly slow, artificially padded pace that it's hard to recommend it to anyone who expects good gameplay.

As the first part of a series, Jenny LeClue: Detectivu makes a great initial impression. The actual detective work strikes a balance between thought-provoking and easy to figure out. The presentation is wonderful, even if the audio could have fared better. It is the story that keeps you hooked with a flawed but likeable main character and a layered, supporting cast. It culminates in a story where the lack of a proper ending is the only thing that sours the experience. Provided that the team can release the second game in a timely manner, this'll be a memorable experience for adventure fans.
