Undeniably Islands sits to the far left of the sliding scale that runs between digital art installation and Call of Duty. That only adds to its transgressive appeal. It expands the definition of what games can and might be. [Recommended]

Everything felt eerie and just slightly off and it made for a beautiful, wonderful experience. It was pretty short but every scene felt surreal and claustrophobic but left me wanting more. My one issue was that sometimes it was a little unclear of what it wanted you to do but otherwise I really enjoyed the experience. If you don't like art-focused games then this isn't for you. Expand

If you are willing to pay and play a game just for its visuals and you're into minimalistic and plant-related aesthetics, this might be it. Expand

    Long(er) review:

I always feel bad leaving negative reviews for games where I feel the dev actually tried to do something good and special. I do belive this is the case here, but in the end, I just didn't feel this game had any value to me at all and toward the end I got pretty impatient just to get it over with, unfortunately (and this game is pretty short).

And just to make it clear, I'm the kind of guy who does enjoy those short, indie titles, but not here.

I did appreciate the artistic style, it was interesting and original and surely required quite an imagination. But I just felt it goes nowhere, I just kept clicking stuff and waiting, listening to some rather irritating noises in the background.
